Biography
Guido Toffoletti ( Venice , 20 June 1951 - Cavarzere , 22 August 1999 ) was an Italian musician . One of the most important and long-lived exponents of blues music in Italy, with his Blues Society has contributed significantly to spreading the music of the Devil .
Born in Venice, but immediately proves impatient to normal life. He lived the first school years in a boarding school in Asolo, but then he sailed the school to be able to play in a beat complex. His passion for music exploded at a very young age and in particular for the king of Rock & roll , Elvis Presley , of whom he became an avid collector.
Fourteen year old boy runs away from home and goes to work as roadie for the various beat groups of the period. In spite of being in the middle of music, it adapts itself to transporting instruments to musicians, particularly to the Renegades. With a first rudimentary guitar he learns the first notes of the blues . But in Italy there is no space for this kind of music. He then decided to try his luck and went to London , with little money and without a destination. He works in the premises, adapting to all the works, just to stay close to the music. He himself told of having married a dancer by proxy, just to stay in London. One night he meets Alexis Korner , the father of the British Blues on the street. Alexis is his teacher and patron, but he is above all a great fraternal friend who introduces him to the English music scene, presenting him as "the Venetian who knows us more than ourselves". Guido exploded his passion for the blues and in 1976 he returned to Italy, founded his own group, the ' Blues Society ' and released his first Born in London - january 1976 recording product for a small label and limited edition. In his discography, Guido starts by offering personal versions of the classics of Blues, songs by Muddy Waters ("I Can not Be Satisfied") or Willie Dixon or Jimmy Reed , but then the compositions become for the most part in his name.
He plays the guitar and sometimes the harmonica , but does not overwhelm the other members of the band, where everyone has their own space and participates in the musical construction. He prefers to leave the vocal parts to the others, but then he sings too, with his voice certainly not black but particular. The ' Blues Society ' makes itself known playing around Italy in clubs, festivals but also abroad ( Switzerland , Germany , Czechoslovakia ), participating in two editions of the Pistoia Blues Festival (1980 and 1983). He takes part in various concerts of blues musicians , from that of BB King in July 1979 to Vigorelli in Milan to those of John Mayall , Paul Jones (1980) and Alexis Korner. In 1981 he collaborates with the pianist Italo Salizzato (ps Arbik ) and composes a collection of eleven instrumental pieces, published by Edizioni Musicali Edera , entitled: "The Anina is the Blues ". In March 1987 the magazine Il Mucchio Selvaggio dedicated the cover and a large article (the only Italian case). There were also some television appearances, including ' International DOC Club ' and ' Quelli della Notte ', ' Be bop a lula ' and ' Uno mattina '. The US magazine ' Living Blues ', in a 1986 poll, ranked it in seventh place among non-American blues artists. In April 1995 Guido and his Blues Society also participated, the only Italian, to the ' Alexis Korner Memorial Concert' along with the biggest names in English blues. Become friends with Mick Taylor and Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones , a guest in the Paris studios where they were recording the record Steel Wheels and James Cotton . James Cotton , Louisiana Red , Mick Taylor and Ian Stewart , Tolo Marton (guitarist, formerly Le Orme ), Herbie Goins (former voice of Alexis Korner 's band) and Paul Jones (ex Manfred ) play among his records. Mann ), Zoot Money (formerly Animals ), Jorma Kaukonen and Dick Heckstall-Smith (formerly Colosseum ). Only a sound record of incisions with Alexis Korner is missing: everything was ready for Guido and Alexis to play together, after some live experiences, but the latter's death caused the project to fail. The record was made anyway and the part of Alexis Korner was played by Ian Stewart , the Rolling Stones pianist. Become a fraternal friend of Patty Pravo , Bobby Solo , Little Tony , sharing a passion for rock and roll and black music. And this passion led him to collect any heirloom of his idols: he had an immense discography of Beatles, Elvis Presley and the blues in general. But also a white Rolls Royce of actor William Holden, equal to that belonged to Elvis Presley and an original Cadillac. He had a large collection of electric guitars, some built to measure and on his design, like the one in the shape of the United States of America and with the colors of the American flag. His CDs of the '90s are engraved on the Vita Viva label, the one started by Alexis Korner and then by the sons of Alexis with Guido.

Hubert Leroy "Herbie" Goins (February 21, 1939 – October 27, 2015) was an American rhythm & blues singer. He worked mainly in England in the 1960s, notably with Alexis Korner and then as the leader of Herbie Goins & The Night-Timers (or Nightimers). He later continued his career based in Sezze, Italy. He was born and grew up in Ocala, Florida, and sang in his local church as a child before forming his first blues group, The Teen Kings. He later moved to New York City and continued his singing career, opening for such acts as B. B. King, Bobby Bland and Sam Cooke. He was drafted in the late 1950s and served as a GI in the medical corps in Germany, with Edwin Starr. After leaving the US Army and joining the band led by Eric Delaney, with whom he travelled to England. Goins then joined the Chris Barber Band for a time, before, in late 1963, becoming the featured singer in Alexis Korner's band, Blues Incorporated. In February 1964, he sang on the Blues Incorporated album Live At The Cavern, and later in the year on their album Red Hot From Alex alongside such musicians as Dick Heckstall-Smith, Danny Thompson and Art Themen.
In 1965, Goins left Korner to front another band, the Nightimers (or, sometimes, Night-Timers) who had originally formed in July 1964, after their singer Ronnie Jones left. The group quickly gained a reputation, especially among Mods, as one of the hottest R&B bands in the UK. Band members included Mick Eve (tenor saxophone) (born Michael Eve, 21 September 1937, Walthamstow, North East London), Mike Carr (keyboards), Harry Beckett (trumpet), David Price (bass), Bill Stephens (drums), and Speedy Acquaye (congas). In 1966, Herbie Goins and the Night-Timers recorded "No. 1 In Your Heart", written by Clyde Wilson (who recorded as Steve Mancha) and Wilburt Jackson, and first recorded by Motown group The Monitors. Goins' single, released on the Parlophone label, was not a hit but remained popular among Mods and later Northern soul fans. He and his band, which in 1966 featured John McLaughlin on guitar, toured the UK supporting Otis Redding. They also regularly played at top clubs in London, including the Flamingo and the Marquee, on bills with Jimi Hendrix, John Lee Hooker and others, as well as touring in Europe. An album released under the title of Soul Soul Soul, or alternatively No. 1 In Your Heart, was released in some countries and featured tracks recorded in 1966-67. In the late 1960s they briefly merged with Mick Weaver's band Wynder K Frog, before travelling to Italy where they worked until 1971. After some of their equipment was stolen, Goins stayed in Italy when the rest of the band returned to England. Goins then worked in Italy as a songwriter and record producer, and in television. He released several funk records in Italy in the 1980s, including "You Don't Love Me" (credited as "Herbie") and "Scrap Rap" in 1983, "Hold On" (1984), and "I Feel Good" (1986). He also collaborated with Italian blues guitarist Guido Toffoletti on several albums. He resumed performing in the late 1980s, leading the Herbie Goins Soul Band, mainly at festivals in Europe but also in the US and Britain, and also occasionally reunited for shows with Barber and Heckstall-Smith. In 2009 he toured the UK with Cliff Bennett, Chris Farlowe and the Norman Beaker Band. He also led a gospel vocal group, Stars of Joy.
He died in Italy on October 27, 2015, aged 76.
