Harrell “Young Rell” Davenport Announces Full‑Length Debut on Little Village A new generation of blues takes the stage Little Village proudly announces the full‑length debut from Harrell “Young Rell” Davenport, the 19‑year‑old Mississippi phenom whose rapid rise has electrified the blues world and reaffirmed that the tradition is not only alive — it’s evolving in real time.Raised in Vicksburg, Mississippi and steeped in the cultural memory of the Delta, Young Rell represents the rarest combination: a deeply rooted traditionalist with the instincts and imagination of a modern songwriter. A standout guitarist of striking maturity, a fat‑toned harmonica player with a signature attack, and a vocalist who sings with unforced authority, Davenport has already emerged as one of the most compelling young voices in contemporary blues.His story is the kind that reminds the community why Little Village exists. Like D.K. Harrell, Sean McDonald, Kyle Rowland, Candice Ivory (and more!) before him, Young Rell arrives at the label at the exact moment when raw talent, lived experience, and artistic purpose converge. Little Village has made a mission of catching young artists on their ascent — and Davenport is unmistakably on his way up, up, and up!!One of Davenport’s greatest strengths is the breadth of his musical vocabulary. His repertoire moves effortlessly from deep Mississippi Delta blues to acoustic country blues, from Chicago electric grit to southern soul. He understands the connective tissue between these styles because he has studied them — not casually, but obsessively. His knowledge of blues history is astonishing: legendary recordings, obscure B‑sides, forgotten innovators, regional variations, and the overlooked artists who shaped the music from the shadows. Young Rell’s songwriting is extremely impressive and his taste in covers is impeccable; he wrote all the songs on this album except two, and they aren’t the usual standards — they’re deep cuts, songs most musicians never touch, like his unique, fascinating and timely take on Bob Dylan’s “Masters of War” and Fenton Robinson’s should be classic “I Hear Some Blues Downstairs!” And he doesn’t just play them; he inhabits them, reshaping each tune with a sense of ownership and emotional clarity far beyond his years.Discovered by many through a viral clip of his first‑ever Chicago performance — 165,000 views and 4,000 shares within days — Young Rell has since built a global following through his musicianship, his humility, and his gift for community‑building. His social media presence is not a marketing strategy; it’s an extension of the same generosity he brings to the bandstand. Fans and musicians alike engage with him on technique, tone, gear, and the deep history of the music he carries forward.As a child, Davenport found refuge in the blues, writing his way through hardship and trauma. By the time he finished high school, he had written more than 150 original songs — personal without being confessional, poetic without affectation, shaped by experience and the emotional intelligence of someone who listens as intently as he plays.This debut album — recorded at Kid Andersen’s Greaseland Studios and produced by Chicago blues harmonica ace Matthew Skoller with co‑production and engineering by Kid Andersen — showcases a young artist already in full command of his voice. Surrounded by a powerhouse Bay Area rhythm section and supported by Larry Batiste’s horn arrangements and background vocals, Davenport delivers a set that honors the lineage while sounding unmistakably like himself.

Grey DeLisle and Les Greene - Grey & Greene

 7. Mariposa - 3:23
 8. Go Go Go - 2:55
 9. That's All - 3:34
10. You're the One That I Want - 2:38

Grey & Greene was produced by rockabilly veteran and multi-instrumentalist James Intveld, with original songs written by Americana/alt-country star Grey DeLisle (three co-written by Intveld), and showcases the vocal talents of DeLisle and Les Greene, who Grey befriended in 2024 when they did a Christmas song together called “I Don’t Want Nothing” that sparked a desire to collaborate further. Some folks know Greene from his incendiary vocals as Little Richard in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis, or from his captivating performances on American Idol’s Season 16, but his bread and butter is his own Les Greene and the Swayzees. This high-octane outfit bring their own take on soul and R&B-flavored rock n’ roll with performances that regularly leave audiences with jaws dropped, in a daze from Greene’s otherworldly talent.
Pairing that powerhouse with Americana sweetheart DeLisle guarantees something special. The duo trade off vocal duties throughout the record on tracks like “Shake That Thing,” “Go Go Go,” and “Home Wrecker,” the latter a clever reimagining of DeLisle’s 2002 classic. Here, Greene steps into the title role, reimagining the character into a “devil in some tight leather,” in place of the original vixen who was a “devil in a tight sweater.”
The flavors of classic country, blues, rockabilly, Brill Building pop and soul create something for everybody, and one can easily imagine DeLisle & Greene’s set at Stagecoach and Coachella, the Grand Ol’ Opry and South x Southwest, Boots in the Park and your local hipster bar jukebox. We all wanna shake that thang, and DeLisle and Greene give us all the infectious inspiration to do it.
There are tender moments as well. Ballads like “I’m Gonna Let You Call Me Baby,” “Mariposa,” (featuring Deke Dickerson on guitar) and “That’s All” allow the beauty and uniqueness of these voices to shine. Anyone nursing a recent heartbreak might want to skip “That’s All”—or, alternatively, put it on endless repeat. Greene’s gorgeous, desperate pleas are the perfect showcase for those remarkable pipes.

Over the last 25 years, Dave Kellan has rocked the country coast-to-coast. With a devoted fan base in his hometown of Midland, MI, Dave is now one of the most hardworking live musicians in the greater New York area. Since 2000, Dave has released 5 independent full-length albums of original material. The first album was with the band, "Gutbucket". The day the first album was released the band was already sharing the Salt River Blues Festival stage with the likes of international blues icons Joe Bonamassa. Gutbucket then was cutting their teeth by doing demos for RCA for the soul singer Robert Bradley. The second album was "Open Up", a self-produced demo of Dave playing guitar, bass and singing all the harmonies himself. In 2003, Dave came out with "Truth of the Matter" which showed an intelligent mix of rock, jazz, folk and blues. Dave won Mid-Michigan Idol from a Citadel/Epic Records contest in 2002 which led to him opening for various national acts such as Uncle Kracker and Bowling for Soup. Dave has won 20+ awards from Review: In 2005, Dave won four Review awards (best solo artist, best blues and rock songwriter, blues band deserving wider recognition) at the Review ceremonies in Saginaw, Michigan; and in 2006 he won best male vocalist, guitarist, songwriter and instrumentalist. Dave's fourth CD, "Rounder than the Sound", features special guests Larry McCray and platinum selling Verve Pipe drummer Donny Brown. The tracks show an array of Dave Kellan's catchy style. In Dec 2011, a long-awaited album was released with the powerful Michigan rock trio Gutbucket. This has proved to be some of Dave Kellan's most prolific guitar work to date and "Gutbucket" was getting rave reviews on a global scale. It is now available on itunes and cd.baby.com
Dave's powerful style has now evolved into a soulful mix of pop, rock, blues and jazz/funk that will soon be taking his larger band on the festival circuit in the U.S. and abroad.
Dave is the lead vocalist/guitarist in HOURGLASS, the James Taylor tribute band and coincidentally lives in Saint James, NY!

 4. Funny Way Of Showing It - 3:22
 5. Learned A Lot - 3:56
 6. Rollin' Away - 3:33
 7. Shelter - 4:03

Musicians:
John F. Klaver - guitar, vocals;
Nicole Verouden - vocals;
Tenny Tahamata - bass;
Peter Weissink -drums.

No matter the backdrop, sunrises and sunsets always have an alluring charm. The cover of "Catch The Morning Sun" is no exception.There have also been some lineup changes in the John F. Klaver Band. Tenny Tahamata (formerly of Link, Julian Sas) is now on bass. Furthermore, the bandleader has passed the lead vocals to Nicole Verouden, though not entirely, as John F. Klaver still takes over on some tracks. Nevertheless, Nicole Verouden brings a fresh dimension to the album. While John F. Klaver is known for his wide range of blues styles, this album somehow conveys a different dimension, and not just because of the new singer.... Those who are busy catching the morning sun are, in common parlance, the early bird that catches the worm, and for the listener, the album is something like a carpe diem in seven tracks, all written by the protagonist except for the interpretations of "Gonna Move" (Paul Peña) and "Shelter" (D.R. Harris, S. Tedeschi, D. Trucks). The bandleader clearly had many moments brimming with brilliant ideas, as all his compositions capture the listener's attention.The review of "Catch The Morning Sun" must begin with the opener, "There Will Be A Day," because Nicole Verhouden sings, and one is easily captivated by her voice. She initially takes center stage, but on a second listen, the interplay between the acoustic six-string and the slided electric guitar emerges. Furthermore, the solo incorporates Southern influences. The singer's authentic voice is also reflected in the backing vocals. The first three and a half minutes showcase the new brilliance of the John F. Klaver Band.And that's not all; there are six more tracks to go.The master guitarist himself sings the title track, "Catch The Morning Sun." Inviting, powerful riffs accompany us all the way to the end of the song, and, of course, he demonstrates his skill on the six strings of his instrument. His vocals are anything but whiny.The album also proves that for this artist, who also plays with Phil Bee's Freedom, stagnation is clearly a foreign concept. "Funny Way Of Showing It"—again featuring Nicole Verouden on vocals—oscillates between fusion, blues, and funk, culminating in an infectiously seductive chorus. Fantastic! The two cover songs contain a strong original element, and "Gonna Move" deserves special mention in this regard.In "Learned A Lot," a slow blues flows from the speakers, and here Nicole Verouden's voice truly blossoms. Beautiful! John F. Klaver evolves throughout this song from a gentle guitarist to a psychedelic agitator with a hard-hitting bass line. "Learned A Lot" is a highlight, followed by "Rollin' Away," where you can perfectly drift along on the waves of blues rock with a few skillful maneuvers.John F. Klaver 2017: New band, new songs, and with "Catch The Morning Sun," the direction of his success hasn't changed one iota. However, it's about time the x- and y-axes were extended.

For some reason he still doesn't quite comprehend, Randy became totally enthralled with music, especially the Blues, but he didn't learn how to play an instrument until 1971. After Jimi Hendrix died, Randy bought his first guitar, a used Fender Jaguar, and within 2 years he had acquired his first gig as a bass player. In 1977, Randy landed a record contract with A&M records with his band The Look, and toured extensively while releasing three albums.
In 1986, Randy finally went back to his roots, and dedicated his life as a player to the Blues. From 1986 till now, Randy has played in the Tri State area of Michigan, Illinois, and Ohio continuously, while releasing 3 solo CDs. He has played with and opened for artists such as Joe Cocker, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Wilbert Harrison, Lazy Lester, Eddie Money, Koko Taylor, Junior Wells, Albert King, BB King, Lonnie Brooks, Cheap Trick, Steve Marriott, John Mellencamp, Little Anthony, Detroit Royalty... Now living in Los Angeles, Randy is once again, doing his 'thang', Detroit style. He's been doing session work, recording, writing, rehearsing, being called to play with other artist or bands, while doing his own material too.

Blue Cat Groove is a collection of four award-winning veteran musicians based in Worcester, Mass., who deliver their own brand of rock-flavored rhythm-and-blues. Assembled two years ago and led by guitarist Samuel Bowen, the band has become a regional favorite at clubs and festivals, and just missed out on 2015 Band Of The Year honors in awards sponsored by Limelight Magazine, the web-based entertainment publication that covers the entire New England region.The unit is fronted by vocalist Kimberly Hodgens-Smith, a Nashville native, who possesses a dynamic alto voice. She was formerly a member of Crossfire, the Southern rock band based in Knoxville, Tenn., and is a founding member of Trophies Of Grace. Bowen doubles on electric and acoustic guitars. They’re backed by a rhythm section of Jeff “The Doctor” Oosterman on bass and Ohio native Vinnie “Cleveland” Depolo on drums, and all three of the men contribute backing vocals. Alan Handel makes a guest appearance on guitar for one cut. A follow-up to their debut eponymous release, Too Much Talk was produced by Bowen, who composed all of the originals. Not to be confused with a tune with a similar title that appeared in the Sylvester Stallone film, The Expendables, “Sinners Prayer,” a new number with a decidedly rock edge, kicks off the action. A simple four-note guitar hook repeats throughout as Kimberly belts out a request for mercy if she’s done anyone wrong. The same statement holds true for the next number, “Power Of Love,” which isn’t the Frankie Goes To Hollywood hit, but an original with a syncopated backbeat. A stripped-down, slow tempo cover of the T-Bone Walker chestnut “Stormy Monday” provides an aural break from the two rockers before it. Kimberly’s sultry delivery is smooth and behind the beat. It precedes the album’s cover tune, “Too Much Talk,” a complaint about a lover who can’t feel the world turning under his feet. It’s the first number on the disc that allows Bowen room to stretch out on the strings. Kimberly’s Nashville roots are on display during the tender “Heaven Rain Down,” a medium shuffle about a woman who needs help – and needs it now. “Small Things” is an acoustic blues ballad about the problems we face in a world where tiny mistakes can create big problems for folks who have both faith and belief in everything you say. The theme continues in “Is It Safe,” which flows over a tasty, but simple minor-key guitar hook as it questions whether or not a lover is lying when the singer’s perceptions are blinded by love.“One Of Us” is a deeply spiritual number that speculates what if God “were one of us,” and asks if you could ask Him one question, what would that question be? A funky bass line introduces “Hold Us Together,” about a woman desperate for help to overcome a situation where the man she truly adores is unemployed and life is breaking down around them. The album concludes with an exceptionally strong cover of the Negro spiritual “Wade In The Water,” which was recorded live. Too Much Talk is a solid effort throughout, and the original material is fresh and worth a listen.

It rocks and has good soul. The voice is good too. I hear US southern rock influences of ZZ Top, Allman Bros. , Warren Haynes, and a few more in the writing, playing and arranging.

Formed out of veterans of the Detroit music scene, the Smokin' 45s are bringing fans their special blend of Rock and Blues. Their live show takes the music up a notch, taking cues from the American electrified Chicago Blues sounds and adding their own zeal to the sounds in a nod to the British Blues and British Invasion movements homages to the established master. The Smokin' 45s borrow from the catalogs of those from which they've drawn their inspriation in their live shows and add their own music which stands tall next to that of their well-established influences. There's no room in these sets for long, drawn-out, self-indulgent solos. These sets are packed with heart-pumping, foot-stomping rock and blues with a distinctive Detroit drive.
The Smokin' 45s first came together in 2000. Over the next few months, they continued working on writing original material and finding tasty covers that well suited the sound they had assembled. The results were clear - this was the genesis of something that was moving forward. They began recording at Stony Creek Studios in Rochester, Michigan in late 2002 with Jeff LaDuke at the dials. Twelve songs later, the band had tracks for a CD. They released their debut CD "Anywhere But Here..." in 2003. Distributing the release themselves on cdbaby.com , they've been able to reach listeners in France, Belgium, England, Holland, Norway, Argentina, Poland as well as fans across the US and Canada.
In 2004, The Smokin' 45s began booking shows more regularly and playing shows that got them more attention. The band had been writing material since their initial release and once 2010 rolled around, the band started working on a new CD in the summer and fall months between their roster of shows. Then in late 2010/early 2011, they were back at Stony Creek Studios commencing work on their new release, "Trouble Again".
With invitations to the several key festival shows in the Southeast Michigan area added to the roster of bar gigs, things started moving ahead for them. Their momentum kept moving into 2005 and beyond - more festivals, more bar gigs, more parties, more songs. The band had the honor of being accepted into the Michgan Humanties Council 2012-2015 Arts and Humanites Touring Directory and were honored to again be part of this esteemed program for 2018-2021
Great music - tight, lively shows. These guys are determined to separate themselves from the sea of also-rans and has-beens.

10. Back Track - 3:18
11. Worried Life Blues - 3:44

Over the past 25 years, Doctor Nick and the Rollercoasters have performed countless gigs at the venerable Rex Hotel and elsewhere. Their Blues is rooted in the early electric post-war period of Chicago's south side of the 1950's, where Blues luminaries such as Muddy Waters, Jimmy Rogers, Little Walter and others honed their craft to produce a sound which is at the root of most of the contemporary music that we hear today. Doctor Nick fronts the band singing and laying down the fat sax-like tone of the amplified harmonica that is so emblematic of that era. Juno award winning Julian Fauth also graces the stage on piano and vocals. On guitar, the talented Darren Gallen digs into some deep Blues grooves and is supported by the stellar rhythm section of Bob Vespaziani on drums and James Thompson on acoustic bass. The Rollercoasters play the Blues in the only way they know how: with passion, sincerity and respect. We invite you to come down and catch a show.  If you have the Blues, Doctor Nick has the remedy.

Denny Freeman - Piano, Slide Guitar, Guitar;
Johnny Marshall - Organ [Hammond B3];
Doyle Bramhall - Drums, Backing Vocals.

So, Marc Benno's Take It Back To Texas-yeah, it's a thing. Dropped in 2018 but recorded way back in 1990 at Dallas Sound Lab. Kinda wild that it sat around for nearly three decades before seeing the light. Album's got that raw, unpolished vibe you can't fake. Like, you hear the room, the breaths, the creak of a stool. Feels real. Not overproduced like so much stuff these days. Benno's voice? It's lived-in. Sounds like he's been down some backroads, had a few too many coffees at roadside diners. Not flashy, but honest. You believe him when he sings about pool halls and black Cadillacs.  Guess they really liked that one. Slide guitar cuts through like a knife. Denny Freeman on piano and slide? Yeah, that's a win. Doyle Bramhall Sr. on drums and backing vocals-solid. And his son, Doyle Bramhall II, on guitar and bass? That's next level. Family affair with some serious talent. The track, "Take It Back To Texas," feels like a homecoming. Proud, not cheesy. No cowboy hats or boot-scootin' nonsense. Just a guy saying, this is where I'm from. No apologies. "No Problem Child" kicks off strong-bluesy rock with a swagger that doesn't try too hard. But, not perfect. Some tracks feel a bit samey after a while. Like, we get it-Texas, roots, blues-rock. But maybe a little more variety in tempo or mood would've helped.

Jr. Johnny uses one of his custom made harp amps on this CD Awesome tone! You got to hear this !!! Jr. Johnny is backed by: “The Usual Suspects”. ‘The photos Jr. Johnny includes in his liner notes this time out present the guy as a veritable studio rat. No doubt that’s true, since WOW is Johnny’s 12th album, released just over a year since the last offering, Red Hot. On WOW, Johnny mixes his forthright, at times a little salacious, originals with a few well-worn blues standards — all soaked with his trademarked Sonny Boy II–style harmonica flair. This time around, Florida’s best kept secret in blues harp adds a new ingredient to his sound. The addition of guest Kenny Clark on Nord C2 combo organ marks a big step forward for the band. Noticibly fatter in texture than past efforts, WOW benefits from Clark’s presence by adding subtle nuances not previously heard from the band.
“With each album building upon the last, WOW is without a doubt the best yet from these guys. Johnny’s harp is still pivotal to the band’s sound, but the glow of Kenny Clark’s organ can’t be denied. The band would do well to bring Clark back for another round.”

 8. Hambone - 1:28
 9. My Time Has Come - 4:56
10. Evil In this World - 5:12
11. Searching For Salvation - 6:59

Ernie played his first guitar in the 30's; he was 13 and living in a shack on a Virginia Plantation. He spent his days picking tobacco and his nights bending the blues on a beat up six-string. By the 40's, he earned the right to play with the local bluesmen at the Saturday night Fish Fries in Halifax County, Virginia. At the age of 19, he bought a one-way ticket to Harlem, NY with the $9.00 it took him a year to save - he was moving north to go after his dream.
In the 50's, he played as many as 7 nights a week. From amateur nights at the famed Apollo Theater to juke joints in the dark corners of the city, he was making his mark as a young showman. In the 60's, life demands brought him north to Albany, NY. He worked odd jobs day and night to support his family. His dream was put on hold.
In the 70's when the blues scene was waning, he formed a new band, playing gigs in local bars and hosting blues jams whenever he could slip away from his minimum wage jobs. Over the next two decades, he maintained his post as a fixture of Albany's blues community, a scene hidden away in the dingy rooms of the city's toughest neighborhoods.
In 1992, he formed yet another band and, 53 years after he played his first note, Ernie Williams was about to realize his dream.
Although the band members have changed through the years, Ernie has remained one of the most beloved performers in the region. From the House of Blues in Boston to Buddy Guy's Legends in Chicago; from festivals to opening slots for major recording acts, Ernie has been a force to be reckoned with. Ernie and his band represented the East Coast in KLON's National Blues Talent Search and walked away with a prize for first runner up; on two occasions they received a Critic's Choice column in the "Chicago Reader". To date, Ernie has released six CD's.
In addition to his musical performances, Ernie's charisma has landed him both magazine and TV spots. He was selected by Canon for their ad campaign for their new line of copiers called "Canon Blues". He also appeared on a TV commercial for "Grapes and Grains", a Capital District upscale wine establishment.
At 80+ years young, Ernie continues to say "this is just the beginning". Knowing his spirit and motivation, that's entirely possible!

 6. Cry - 4:01

The Dan Lawson Band is a high energy "boogie blues" band. Dan has been hailed as "one of the best blues guitarists in the country" by the likes of guitar maker Ken Parker(Parker Guitars), and the album Bill 'n Hel's Kitchen has been hailed as, "high-energy boogie blues...that would make Clapton proud". The track "Let's Ride" has been picked up by MTV "Road Rules" and ABC's "Making the Band" as well as ESPN. Do you like the blues? If you do, this is about as good as it gets. The Dan Lawson Band is a high-energy boogie blues band that brings rock ‘n roll together with the blues to create a stunning sound. The mix of Dan Lawson’s thundering guitar licks, GoG’s impeccable timing on the drums, the rock steady bass of Billy Carpenter, and the sweet fingers of Gary Voller on the Hammond organ and piano make for a unique brand of lively danceable music. Their sound is perfect for every venue from smoky bar rooms to the largest of arenas. Dan has played with many bands and has also served as studio and band guitarist for such national touring acts as Nashville’s Nathalie Cote. He was also a finalist in the Jimi Hendrix Guitar Competition. He ranges from ripping rock guitar solos to country licks and down-and-dirty blues. But his real love is a mix of styles called Boogie Blues. Songs like “Jo Mama” and “Play the Blues” are perfect examples of this style with effortless guitar lines and full backing band. Yet, he is not limited in any sense. The band can play songs that range from high energy rock to more somber tunes like “Just Ain’t Easy”, an Allman Brothers tune that appears on this CD. Dan’s unique guitar style thrills fans and keeps them dancing for hours.

Thirteen new original tracks, bearing the unmistakable stamp of singer and harmonica player Jr Johnny, who, as on previous occasions, is backed by Stephen Munnich on guitars, David Pastorius (Jaco's nephew) on bass, and Bjarne Kjaer on drums. The four musicians have shaped this new release, titled Danger Zone, in which many of the songs have clear stylistic references to Lou Reed or Van Morrison in the way they are performed. Fans who decide to get a copy of the album will find, in addition to the thirteen new compositions, some well-known covers such as Got My Mojo Working, Baby, Please Don't Go, Spoonful, and Tin Pan Alley, in personal interpretations that are somewhat different from the traditional versions. The tracks were recorded almost entirely in one take. Direct and with hardly any overdubs, the result is vibrant and very rewarding.

Tenry Johns has come a long way from his humble beginnings in a small town in the Delta called Shelby, Mississippi. He started his own band at the age of 15 while he while still in high school.
After graduating in the mid ’60s, his family moved to Chicago. Shortly after hitting town, Tenry looked up his cousin, notable local singer/songwriter and performer, Johnny Drummer, and the two started playing together regularly.
Eventually, Tenry and his brothers formed “The Johns Bros. Band” with the fabulous Denise LaSalle and Bill Coday fronting the band.
After years of performing around Chicago and surrounding areas, Tenry met Harry Glen from Marvel Records. They worked together on releasing his first 4 song EP.
Some of his other experiences include teaming up with the Gemico label recording group called “The Notations”, and as the bandleader for the touring band, “Nitro”.
After the group broke up, Tenry’s focus turned to writing and producing his own songs.
Far too often the blues can come across as generic and lacking in variety. There are few artists who manage to pull off a form of the style that is based in a traditional vein and is still varied enough to entertain. There are even less who do that and make it fun. Tenry Johns is just such a man. With this CD he has combined classic blues stylings with rock and roll and even jazzy modes to create a sound that is quite varied and fun. There are some lesser, more generic moments, but overall Johns seems to know how to change it up enough to keep the music fresh. If you are a fan of high-energy blues, especially with a traditional core, then by all means you should give this one a listen.

It's pretty rare these days for veteran bluesmen to be "discovered" after years of obscurity, but bassist and vocalist Ernie Williams proves that there may still be some truth in that cliche. Though he'd worked for years in neighborhood venues in New York City and Albany, Williams was unable to expand his reputation until 1993, when he assembled his rough-and-ready band the Wildcats (Williams's old street nickname had been Wildcat Quick Ernie Lash). Led by guitarist Mark Emanatian, they began gigging in rock clubs throughout the Albany area, and they eventually recorded Sun Goin' Down on the homegrown Wildcat label. On that disc  Williams demonstrates a refreshingly unforced versatility: he immerses himself in a spectrum of musical and emotional expression from wistful blues balladry to roadhouse rockers. His lyrics are unusually personal, even poignant, and his Wildcats, though predictably rock influenced, take their cues from Williams and remain rooted in a tasteful blues groove. Williams's brand of workmanlike artistry is becoming increasingly rare in this age of flash and vapid flamboyance, but it's what the blues needs if it's to remain viable as an art form.
