Although essentially a live act, this release is The 251s’ third studio album: this time recorded at sax player Graham West’s ‘Chicken Shack’ studio.  Trying to keep the sound as ‘live’ as possible, the core rhythm track was recorded ‘live in the studio’, with the minimum of vocal and instrumental overdubs added thereafter. As a further nod towards their live zeitgeist, the band chose, on this occasion, to record a collection of covers, comprising their own favourites and those which tend to get the joint jumping at their regular appearances on the Blues club and festival circuit, including the famous Ain’t Nothin’ But Blues Bar in Soho, where they have had a monthly residency for over 4 years.
The choice of tracks also reflects the band’s ‘strap-line’ of ‘Jumping Blues and Jazz’, which is served with a side of Swing and Chicago Blues; drawing on artists such as T-Bone Walker, Jimmie Rogers, Lynwood Slim, Joe Liggins and Louis Prima. As a mark of their appeal as a live act, following a debut appearance at a new venue, the band is constantly invited back, as has happened at The Roxy Club, St. Harmonica’s and Barleylands blues clubs, The 100 Club, Bear Club (Luton), Ipswich Blues & Jazz, and The Garibaldi Hotel (Northampton) as well as 2 appearances at the 2025 January Blues Festival at The 229, London.
