Lukas Hayden is a blues, soul, and rock artist based in Austin, Texas. A songwriter, guitarist, and producer with a craftsman’s spirit, Lukas builds the spaces where his music is made. His Austin studio, Merkury, was constructed entirely by hand—framing, wiring, and acoustics included-and now serves as both his creative home and a hub for the city’s new wave of live-driven bands.\n\nBorn and raised in Culver City, California, Lukas grew up surfing Venice Beach and absorbing the sounds of Lightnin’ Hopkins, Blind Willie McTell, The Black Keys, Bobby “Blue” Bland, Junior Kimbrough, & R.L. Burnside. Those influences remain the backbone of his music—gritty, soulful, and guitar-driven.\n\nAfter a period living on the road in a 1978 Airstream Argosy fitted with a solar-powered mobile studio, Lukas made his way to Austin. There, he found a thriving scene alongside bands like Louisiana Surf Department, Nether Hour, and Zack Telander. Through Merkury Studio, he now records his own music and projects from across the community, preserving the city’s live fire on record.\n\nJoined by Jose Juan Gutierrez Jr. (drums) and Willie Jansen (bass), Lukas is carving his place in the blues, soul, and rock tradition. With an ambitious plan to release a new song every month, indefinitely, his music reflects both the traditions he grew up on and the communities he continues to build.
