Recorded with The Sydney Soulkestra, a group that Clayton put together especially for this project. The Sydney Soulkestra consists of a 4pce String section, a 4pce Horn section, a 2pce Backing vocal section, and 4pce Rhythm section. All musicians were hand picked to best compliment the songs, convey the message and create excitement and vibe. This is a showcase of Claytons writing, production, arranging, mixing, singing and keyboard skills. Four very different songs bound together with lush and evocative orchestrations, poignant lyrics, soulfulness.
A little about the songs.
"Barely Alive", this is hopefully a blues to end all blues! The Blues doesn't necessarily have to be sad but it must have raw emotion and hit you straight in the heart. With this song I wanted to convey the saddest story of desperation and hopelessness, both lyrically and musically but wrapped up in a lush orchestration.
"Lovesick Casualty" is a funky and funny love story of one man's desperate journey back to see his girl, but there are many obstacles in the way and he almost gives up on everything. But love will prevail.
"So Beautiful" is a beautiful ballad with a very sad story. With this song I wanted to try to convey the roller coaster ride of emotions that a family might feel when experiencing Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). It is a senseless tragedy and it’s my hope that this song might raise general awareness and possibly bring some comfort to those who have experienced it first hand.
"Nervous" is a funny tale of a seemingly calm person who can’t summon the courage to talk to his crush. It's one man's playfully joyous journey into timid insecurity where everything is going wrong but only in his mind.
