For my brother Daba and all friends from azzuls!
Hard Roads and High Water will mark my fourth CD release, a labour of love I have collaborated on with my friends and bandmates from Texas Flood. We wanted to make a record reflecting our musical influences, and we hope people enjoy hearing it as much as we have enjoyed recording it. This Kickstarter campaign aims to recoup some of the expenses for the recording and mastering, to get the artwork completed, and finally, to have it released on CD. The album has been a two-year process with countless hours invested and is something we're very proud of. We appreciate all the contributions and thank you in advance for your support.

-Paul Kype
A lifelong musician, Paul Kype has spent his entire career committed to performing and proving that the demand for live music isn't going anywhere. From age 16, Paul had been a member of various bands until he marked a new path in 1993, while working in the Vancouver club scene. Texas Flood was born with Paul Kype on lead guitar and vocals, Simon Hardman on bass, and the illustrious Vancouver veteran Jerry Adolphe of "Chilliwack" on drums. After touring throughout the 90s, the band landed a house gig at the infamous Yale Hotel, where he met Canadian Rock legend, Jerry Doucette. It wouldn't be long before Paul joined the Doucette band, touring for many years and playing festivals with some personal heroes, such as Johnny Winter. The song "Run Buddy Run," to be released on this album, was written to honour his friendship with Jerry Doucette, after he passed away in April of 2022.
In 2004, Paul relocated to Alberta, where the band welcomed new members while continuing to play coastal gigs with his founding friends. Through the years, Paul has remained steadfast in his craft, embracing the evolution of Texas Flood along the way. Playing with Steve Keenan since 2007, the two have supported each other in various projects, with Paul recording and producing Steve's last album, "In My Hands," released in 2022. While they had ventured apart for several years, they remained close friends. Their time spent working together in the studio on Steve's record re-sparked their desire to play together, with Keenan becoming an integral part of the band again.
It was also in 2007 that Paul welcomed long-time drummer for the "Corb Lund Band", Brady Valgardson. The two became fast friends and have worked together ever since. Brady's regular touring with a prominent band inevitably led to scheduling conflicts. Thankfully, his dad, Brad Valgardson, was also an excellent drummer and could fill in with Texas Flood any time he was on the road. They struck a chord when Brady brought in fellow Corb Lund bandmate Kurt Ciesla on bass guitar in June of 2022. Having spent years on the road with Brady, Kurt was a natural fit for the tight-knit band.
The chemistry between Paul Kype and the other members of Texas Flood is impossible to deny. Since the release of their live performances at Blues Can in December 2023, the genuine magic of this collaboration has become increasingly apparent. Having recorded the gig, Paul set out to make some live mixes for his mother as a favourite Christmas gift. With such good quality audio recordings, he decided to upload a few videos of the songs to refresh their website. It wouldn't be until weeks later, when a friend congratulated him on the success of the videos, that he discovered they were gaining some serious traction on YouTube. For the first time in his lifelong musical career, his band gained MILLIONS of views and thousands of new fans worldwide!
