The Rico Blues Combo was founded in 1996 by Riccardo Migliarini (vocals and harmonica) and Maurizio Pugno (guitar), with the addition of Mirco Capecci on bass and Giuliano Bei on drums. Their artistic journey immediately garnered recognition with the release of their first album, "White Whiskey," which was named the best Italian blues CD of 1997 by the music press.
"Sleepy Town," released in 1999, further marked the musical direction the band had taken: the achievement of a recognizable sound achieved by fusing the typical idioms of geographically distant music with the Mediterranean roots of the various musicians.
With the release of their third CD, "Live at Murphy's" (2002), recorded entirely live in a blues house in Abruzzo, participation in major European festivals, and collaborations with international artists (Sugar Ray Norcia, Dave Specter, Matt Leddy, Mike Turk, Ian Paice, Sax Gordon, etc.), the band firmly established itself among the best in the national blues scene, earning significant recognition even abroad, with numerous tours, especially in Northern Europe.
In 2006, the Rico Blues Combo celebrated 10 years of activity by releasing the album "House of Blue Rags," featuring Sugar Ray Norcia, Mike Turk, Matt, Alberto Marsico, Davide Dal Pozzolo, and Mauro Ferrarese... for a sort of Rico Blues Combo & friends!!!
The album also marked a break after years of intense activity and gave the various members time to pursue solo projects that have seen them (especially with Maurizio Pugno) perform worldwide to this day.
2015 marks the year of the official "Reunion," the year in which Maurizio Pugno and Riccardo Migliarini began arranging and writing music and lyrics for their fifth album, which will be presented this Saturday in Perugia. This album is a kind of new look for songs that have formed the backbone of the band's repertoire over the years... a kind of "rewriting of existing songs"... with the addition, of course, of some unreleased tracks! Maurizio produced, wrote, and arranged the music, while Rico oversaw the entire literary component of this brand-new work. Now the adventure certainly can't stop, and as long as there are places where people with the same passion can meet, the Rico Blues Combo will certainly be there.
