Sean Chambers - Strong Temptation

Bitrate: 320K/s
Year: 1998
Time: 37:09
Size: 85,6 MB
Label:Vestige Records
Styles: Blues Rock
Art: Full

Tracks Listing:
 1. Strong Temptation - 3:05
 2. Me & My Guitar - 3:21
 3. Mean Town Blues - 4:09
 4. Danger Zone - 3:27
 5. Crazy For Loving You - 4:33
 6. Shame, Shame, Shame - 3:58
 7. Dixie 45 - 3:10
 8. Mojo Down The Road - 4:16
 9. You Was Wrong - 7:04

After fronting an extremely popular Stevie Ray Vaughan tribute band for several years in the early '90s, this Florida native decided it was time to do his own thing. Although Strong Temptation does have glimmers of originality, however, it is still heavy on the SRV influence. "Crazy for Loving You" is a nice, slow blues similar to Gary Moore's "Still Got the Blues," featuring nice piano playing from guest artist Ben Crider. "Mojo Down the Road" is a hard-charging, ZZ Top-style tune. "Dixie 45" is a cool instrumental centered around a fresh, creative bassline; on this one Chambers gives a nod to his first influence, Hendrix. "You Was Wrong" blends the feel of a "Texas Flood" with "Stormy Monday" and throws in some intriguing, surprising variations on the standard blues chord progressions. Chambers' vocals, although not anything particularly special, seem to do the job. This is rockin', smokin' blues with a hard edge and never a dull moment.

Brian Lupo - Into The Sun

Bitrate: 320K/s
Year: 2023
Time: 40:56
Size: 95,1 MB
Label: Self-Released
Styles: Blues

Tracks Listing:
 1. Snowing In Chicago - 4:15
 2. If You Need Somebody - 6:16
 3. Feeling Low - 3:59
 4. Hey Hey - 4:06
 5. Matter Of Time - 5:33
 6. Good Things - 4:13
 7. Turnaround - 3:54
 8. Coming Home - 3:54
 9. Back To Chicago - 4:42

Guitarist Brian Lupo was born on the Northwest side of Chicago on November 18, 1976. A graduate of Notre Dame High School, Lupo (who had always been a fan of Rock and Roll – especially, The Allman Brothers Band) was a late bloomer when it came to playing Blues guitar. In fact, he did not pick up the instrument until 1996 (at the age of 20). Once he picked up his first Fender Stratocaster, he rarely would be seen without it. He spent the next 5 years intensely wood-shedding and honing his unique sound. He immersed himself in the classic recordings of artists such as Muddy Waters and B.B. King.
When he finally came up for air, he found himself as a much sought after sideman for some of the most popular singers on Chicago’s hard-scrabble West Side. In 2002, he accepted a regular weekly gig with the indomitable Willie D. & The All Stars – performing every Friday and Sunday night at The 290 Sport & Juice Bar. It was during this period that Lupo cut his teeth in a live setting and learned how to play within the context of an ensemble. Over the course of the next 3 years, he played behind Willie D. and a parade of the West Side’s finest Blues and Soul vocalists. One of those vocalists, Nora Jean Wallace, hired Lupo to play behind her on various festival dates across both the U.S. And Canada. His guitar playing which is heavily influenced by Albert Collins, Johnny “Guitar” Watson, and Albert King can be heard on Nora Jean’s first two recordings. In 2006, Lupo, became disillusioned with the Chicago music scene and relocated to Las Vegas, NV. It was there, in the desert, that he would almost inconceivably reinvent himself (and support his young family) as a professional poker player. In 2014, family obligations brought Lupo back to his Chicago roots and the Blues music he so deeply loved. Brian Lupo and his band currently perform in and around Chicago at top Blues clubs including Rosa’s Lounge and the Harlem Ave Lounge.

King Alex Littlejohn is one of the greatest pure blues singers performing today. Born in 1934, he was raised in Faraday, Louisiana where he was childhood friends with Jerry Lee Lewis, Mickey Gilley, and Jimmy Swaggert. As a teenager, he moved to Kansas City where he lived in the 18th and Vine District. Inspired by that thriving music scene, he learned to play bass and sing the blues. He has played with a number of famous bluesmen, most notably, B.B. King. King Alex has been recording since 1959. In 1996 he played the Blues Estafette in Utrecht, Holland. There he signed with Black Magic Records and released the CD, 'Hot As A Coffee Pot'. King Alex returned to Europe for a three week tour in 2002. While there, he obtained the remaining copies of 'Hot As A Coffee Pot'. Having previously sold out in America, these CD's will not last long. All songs were written by King Alex. His rich vocals are complimented by his driving band, The Untouchables, featuring Doug Hemphill - 'Flying V' guitar played with an Albert King influence, Charlie Booth - Hammond organ, Neil Nolan - tenor saxophone, Dave Duffield of the Memphis Horns - cornet and flugelhorn, and 'Blue Shoe Sole Revue' front man, Steve Shoemaker on trombone and harmonica. For more information on King Alex, check out the feature article on him in Living Blues Magazine issue 157 volume 32 no.3 May-June 2001. This review was in: Back To The Roots, Nov.-Dec. 1997, no.16 (Belgium) King Alex And The Untouchables 'Hot As A Coffee Pot' Black Magic 9035 Alex writes most of his stuff himself, and those songs go from light-footed rhythms like the theme song to driving New Orleans-flavored songs ('Grandma's Sweet Potato Pie' and 'I Want To Come Back') in which the modest horn section has a large part. 'Hot As A Coffee Pot' is one of those discs that you can keep on listening over and over again. Against all commercial ideas, Alex and his friends make the most pure stuff I have heard this month, and believe me, I heard a lot. Franky Bruneel.

Sunchild (they took their name from a William Blake poem) was formed in 1996 by guitarist Donavon Frankenreiter, who had already earned international renown as a pro surfer. A love for the waves is another thing the band members hold in common. "Surfing is our second passion, next to the band," Tristan says. "It can be a spiritual activity; you working in concert with nature, and I'm sure it translates on a subconscious level to the music." "We can definitely find ourselves getting transported by the music, when you're with four other people connecting inside it," says Scott. "We all really feel what we're doing. But it's not an aimless jam. Like surfing, there's a discipline holding it together." Donavan's ability on a board has been the subject of numerous surfing films, TV shows and magazine articles, and he remains a vital force in the sport. But Sunchild's music has been his primary focus since he started playing with Scott, Tristan, co-lead guitarist Matt Hamilton and drummer James Rhinehart, the band's most recent addition In May of 1997, not many months after they came together, Sunchild recorded its first album, "Barefoot and Live," which pretty much describes how the album was done at LA's The Mint club. Scott says, "That album was mainly songs we had come into the band with. What we're writing now is much more of a cohesive band effort, with everyone contributing to it. It's the music that gets us off, and it's great to be able to share that feeling with our audiences. It feels like it is music that's coming around again, with female artists like Sheryl Crow really pushing it forward now. It seems like it's getting hip again to be meaningful and accessible." "Our music is just based on our own experiences, on the life we know," Tristan says. "A lot of the music we love was fueled by a more volatile era. We're not going to pretend that's our lives. We're not going to go out of our way to sound obscure or overblown. It isn't so much that we have a message to get across as a mood. Our main thing is to generate some emotions that our audiences can relate to, and that they leave feeling better than when they came in."

The Blues Project, the New York City-based band whose mid-’60s albums helped usher in the blues-rock revolution—and which then expanded into other musical areas—will release Evolution, their first album of new studio recordings in 50 years. The album features founding members Steve Katz, on guitar and vocals, and drummer Roy Blumenfeld (also on vocals). The other current members are Scott Petito (bass, guitar, vocals), Chris Morrison (lead and rhythm guitar, vocals) and Ken Clark (keyboards, vocals). The 12-song album was recorded and mixed by Petito in upstate New York in the summer of 2022. In addition to original compositions by Katz and Blumenfeld, the track list includes material by other current members, covers of classic blues numbers, and one song each by Al Kooper and the late Andy Kulberg, who were members of the classic ’60s, lineup. (Original guitarist Danny Kalb, who died in 2022, is not represented on Evolution.)  “I found ‘Peru’ on an old rehearsal cassette from 1980 when we had one of our reunions,” says Katz about the Kulberg-penned tune. “It was Andy Kulberg’s ‘follow-up’ to ‘Flute Thing.’ We never performed it, but I found the cassette and we decided to do it on this album in tribute to Andy. Roy is in touch with Kooper and I believe that’s how we got [his song] ‘Inside Information.’” The Blues Project formed in 1965 with a shifting lineup that settled on Katz, Blumenfeld, keyboardist/vocalist Kooper, Kalb, Kulberg and singer Tommy Flanders in time for the band’s debut album for Verve/Folkways Records, Live at the Café Au Go Go. Flanders dropped out and the quintet released its only studio album with that personnel, Projections, in 1966. Live at Town Hall followed in 1967, but Kooper and Katz had already left to form Blood, Sweat and Tears by the time of its release. Three further Blues Project studio albums were recorded with changing personnel until the band called it quits in 1972. The following year, however, the live Reunion in Central Park featured the Projections-era lineup. A handful of other reunions followed but the ’60s-era group never recorded together again.

Ellis Mano Band - Luck of the draw

 3. Only with You - 4:18
 4. Get Out - 2:57
 5. Good to Go - 5:27

11. Without a Warning - 5:11

"The sound and the arrangements are from the present, but the music is from the Golden years of Rock! This means for example that the vocals have to start after an instrumental intro." Two sentences are enough for the lead guitarist of the Ellis Mano Band to sum up his own claim for the current album "Luck Of The Draw".With its third record since 2019, the quintet primarily targets to an audience whom taste of style is an intersection with the personal favourites of the band: Tedeschi Trucks Band, John Mayer, The Black Crowes, Stevie Ray Vaughan or Led Zeppelin - bands with international renown. The Ellis Mano Band members are all professionals: Chris Ellis (vocals), Edis Mano (guitar), Nico Looser (drums), Severin Graf (bass) and Lukas Bosshardt (keyboards) are experienced studio and live musicians - and sound engineers - who bring their knowledge into the music. Handmade, down-to-earth rock plus pointedly placed blues particles without fashionable frills - but still fresh and unspent - that is their trademark. The eleven songs with their dramaturgically skilful tension arcs ("Blue Paranoia") are above all versatile - and you automatically want more of them! There are powerful rock songs like "Get Out" or "One for All", as well as the delicate, semi-acoustic ballad "Luck of the Draw", soul-tinged "Healing Light", the midtempo tracks "Never Gone", "Only with You" and the slightly loungey "Without a Warning" with soft pop touches, and the psychedelic trip "Forsaken". Meanwhile, "Good To Go" and "Turtle" have strong echoes of US jam bands - a preference that the Ellis Mano Band likes to show off live. The musicians are very song-serving throughout. Their exquisitely playing string virtuoso sets tasteful accents, while the singer with his distinctive voice skilfully and emotionally shapes the sound. This - in cooperation with the remarkable keyboard performance and an intense, intelligent rhythm section inspires the varied sound of the record recorded live in the studio. The feeling is compact, warm as well as transparent and detailed. In today's often ego-driven pop and rock biz, the Ellis Mano Band focuses purely on what it's all about: music. In doing so, they represent classic values that are also reflected in the album artwork and their appearance: Quality, style and timelessness! ~ Thomas Hammerl(https://www.in-akustik.de)

Their music is brazenly uncompromising in its raw, heavy and dirty sound. Rooted in American-influenced blues rock, they have been challenging the boundaries between modern and vintage since their inception in 2014. Primarily, they've made a name for themselves through their live shows - whether it's for a rock-loving crowd or on the roots scene, Among Lynx have gained a cross-genre fanbase over the years. Despite the fact that the band has experienced departures and additions over the years, their most recognizable traits - dirty slide guitars, frenetic harmonica, and the strong, soulful vocals - remain. Their upcoming third full-length album Once in a Blue Moon is their most dynamic and mature so far. With melodies that stick in your head, there's no doubt that Among Lynx can weave modern pop into their swinging and distinctive take on roots rock, even if there's a sense of newfound weight and seriousness to the songs.

For fans of Joe Bonamassa, Eric Gales and Blues Rock! After 4 top 50 Active Rock singles with Candlelight Red, Jeremy Edge launched The Jeremy Edge Project in 2020. Making a departure stylistically with more blues based, guitar-based rock. According to Edge, this project has been brewing for a while and came by accident as personnel changes mid-recording session prompted him to make some tough choices about moving forward and finishing the record as a solo artist. Now they are back with their sophomore effort Saints and Souls, being released in two volumes. This record was more than a year in the making and is in the spirit of the albums that inspired Jeremy to play. The album contains artwork and lyrical imagery inspired by New Orleans and some of the stories and folklore surrounding it. It is named as a tip of the hat to the Haitian traditions of "All Saints Day" and "All Souls Day" as a means of celebrating life and those who have passed. There is a recurring theme of light and dark and a struggle to overcome adversity. Some are personal stories, some about modern times and some based on fiction and folklore but all have this recurring theme. The band features a guest appearance by Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater, Black Country Communion) playing keys on “Move On”, with select tracks mixed by Kevin "Caveman" Shirley (Aerosmith, The Black Crowes, Joe Bonamassa, etc…), The band will be out on the road supporting this through 2023.

David Givens - vocals, guitar,
Astra Kelly - vocals,
Mark Clarke - drums, percussion,
Daniel Barnett, Daniel Barnett - drums.

Eddie Turner's sophomore solo release, coming just a year after his first album, stays in the same groove as his well-received 2005 offering. That album nabbed a Blues Music Award nomination for Best New Artist Debut, and this one is just as impressive. Maybe he's making up for lost time since the guitarist has been at it as a sideman for three decades starting with his work in the legendary Zephyr. But whatever the reason, this is another gripping slab of searing, imaginative blues-rock. Detractors will likely peg the singer/guitarist as yet another Hendrix clone, but despite the eerie vocal similarities, there is far more going on here. Most of the personnel from the first disc contribute their talents including producer/bassist Kenny Passarelli and drummer Mark Clarke. But this is very much Turner's show as he shifts from fluid, electric guitar rave-ups to the more spooky, slinky vibe of "I'm a Man, I'm a Man." An underlying voodoo funk consumes the album, infusing a slithery and rather dark intensity to this blues based material. It's similar to the ominous feel that pervades the work of Turner's longtime associate Otis Taylor. Fiery percussion drives the title track and gospel female background vocals add a religious slap to the song's edgy and passionate tale of redemption. Little of this disc is straight-ahead blues, but the genre is never far away in the mix, especially on the slower riff grind of the instrumental "Pomade." Turner plays like a caged tiger before mealtime, pacing and building his taut solos to crescendos and overdubbing himself to striking effect. Although he shares lots of Hendrix's singing tics, it's obvious he's no mere second-rate copy, either vocally or instrumentally. A few tracks such as "Jody" reign his style into feisty pop melodies, but most songs shapeshift from spacy to muscular as Turner leads them with his quicksilver guitar. A terrific follow-up to Rise that even bests it at times, The Turner Diaries is a stunning example of how a seemingly lifelong backing musician can step up, even later in his career, to reveal frontman talents.

 9. The Feeling Carries On - 6:42
10. Tickets - 5:02

James Biehn is one of the most popular and gifted musicians in Des Moines. Whether fronting his own band, or sitting in with such renowned Iowa acts as The Nadas, Bonnie Finken and the Collective, Roxi Copland or Randy Burk, Biehn brings an incredible skill and presence on both his own songs and a flair for covers. As a performer, Biehn is a rare talent. His ability transcends genres and can go from jazz standards to classic rock riffs to blues from song to song and even within songs. His ability has landed him on stages all across the Midwest and opening for acts like Blues Traveler and many more. Maybe Biehn’s biggest role in the Iowa music scene is the role of teacher. As head of the Central Iowa Music Lab, Biehn has been teaching Iowa’s youth the finer points of music for the past five years. There is a reason so many people trust Biehn to teach their youngster, and at 80/35 he plans on showing it.

Albert Cummings - Someone Like You

 9. Meatlocker - 3:42
10. I'm in Love with You - 3:43
11. Old Dog - 3:23
12. Stay Away from My Sister - 2:39

Someone Like You is the exciting album from carpenter turned blues-man, Albert Cummings.  There are plenty of great tunes, soulful vocals and of course there is a plethora of  ferocious guitar work.  The sonic territory is diverse but well executed. The album opens with the hard driving rocker “No Doubt.”  Immediately the David Z production is heard. The snare drum will take your head off. The Z and Cummings combination is a winner from the outset. All of the tracks have a very muscular sound. Even the ballads sound tough. Some highlights include, the Delbert McClinton inspired swagger of ”I Found You” and the southern rock ballad “So Strong.” Both demonstrate Cumming’s Gregg Allman-esque vocals very nicely. The up tempo boogie rock of “Stay Away From My Sister” and the slow blues “Little Bird” are good examples of what Albert can do with more traditional forms. The latter showcases Albert’s well honed phrasing and ability to solo in a jazz style over traditional blues changes. One of the most interesting tracks is the instrumental “Meatlocker.” Here Albert gets into Robben Ford territory soloing effortlessly over the rhythm changes in the chorus. These forays into jazz-blues are a real treat and leave the listener longing for more. Someone Like You is Albert’s seventh album and his first collaboration David Z. and guest guitarist Jimmy Vivino.  Over the years, Albert Cummings  has gained a reputation for putting out consistently good material and Someone Like You continues that tradition.

Phil Brown & Apaches From Paris - Cruel Inventions

 1. Charmed Life - 4:07
 2. Grind Me - 3:44
 3. Hour To Kill - 2:55
 4. Rolling And Tumbling - 2:33
 5. If 6 Was 9 - 4:16
 6. Goodbye Pork Pie Hat - 5:49
 7. La-Lah-Land - 4:27
 8. Diva - 4:28
 9. Ahh... Baby It's You - 3:26
10. Cruel Inventions - 4:31
11. All Over Now - 3:28
12. Heaven - 4:34

Phil started on the violin at age 7. Got his first guitar that year too. Classically trained with lots of lessons and lots of practicing - a guitar slinger was born. He grew up around much of 50's music playing in his parent's house... Chet Atkins, Tony Bennet, opera, classical, jazz.
Phil couldn't wait to follow his dream and left home -- which was Los Alamos/hub of the atomic bomb -- at 17 with an electric guitar, a suitcase and a pocketful of dreams. Hitched all around the US picking up one nighters and joining this band only to 'quit it' or be fired - there was always a 'better' band somewhere with more talented players. The end of the road for many musicians is L.A and somehow or not surprisingly Phil ended up in Los Angeles in 1976 where he survived driving a truck delivering gear for recording studios and where he met the likes of Alice Cooper, Joe Cocker, Mad Dogs and The Englishmen where they were rehearsing. . . .He ended up joining "Little Feat" and started writing songs - a lot of songs - thus worked for a few major music publishing houses. Check Phil's discography.
Phil's solo career started in 2003 when a French label contacted him and asked him to make a record. "Cruel Inventions", Phil first solo album was released in France, then throughout several European countries where it did pretty well.
Meanwhile, Phil was toying with the idea of recording some of his fav Jimi Hendrix songs, re-arranged of course ala Phil -- Bassist Jimmy Haslip and drummer Gary Novak joined him for a few days, recording [the jimi project] was born. Originally Phil planned to make a few thousand CD's for friends and family, but we all know that there are no such things as 'coincidences'. Friends talking to friends and other friends and [the jimi project] ended on many desks   It all starting going nuts with international and national press and airplay, such as NPR syndicated Sunday Morning Show which noted [the jimi project] as one of the '10 must own" CDs for the 2006 holiday season.... [the jimi project] was recently re-mixed by Frank Filipetti with Nuendo technology.Phil moved to Austin, Texas some time in 2006 where he loves the people who in turn luv music and support the artiste`in a way that defies description. Phil, always involved in projects, creating/developing projects, is featured on the latest Kool and the Gang album, as well as realizing the final touches of his third solo album "Good To Be Back" . Still writing songs and playing "live" in Austin is a must if you want to "let/get your ya-ya's out." He's traveling and producing other artist as well. "The good life" according to Phil is "being open minded and challenging yourself in co-creative ways in order to access the light force that propels us all towards greatness." Not many would disagree with that sentiment. In the meantime, Phil's met a few of the many pedigree musicians in Austin, has big fun and as a "happy accident" an MP.TU recording was created, also coming soon.
Superb heavy electric BLUES / ROCK from a master muso. He plays just about all the instruments on this release and it's pure guitar bliss. From the spectacular covers of ROLLING AND TUMBLING and IF 6 WAS 9 to some of the coolest original tunes, this is brilliant. His original songs are exceptional and his style sits very comfortably between HENDRIX / LUKATHER and JEFF BECK. All the influences turn out to sound PHIL BROWN.
His vocals are another plus. He has a very smoky delivery that fits his music like a glove. If HENDRIX / SRV / LUKATHER / BECK are amongst your favourites, please give this guy a chance. You won't be sorry. If it were possible I'd include a MONEY BACK guarantee. That's how confident I am about this release.

....
In the 70s, New York City still had a vital and completely unrecognized blues community.
Tom Pomposello was a bluesman. Not a Black American from the South or the inner city, but a bluesman nonetheless. From the time he heard the Animals and the Rolling Stones, he started championing everyone from Muddy Waters to his hero and teacher, Mississippi Fred McDowell (see the notes for Oblivion’s first release, “Live in New York” where Tom accompanies Fred on bass guitar). His dedication to unearthing unheard blues musicians led us to record and release “Blues from the Apple,” an album that was a medley of working New York City musicians in the early 70s.When I reflect on all the hard work the musicians put into the recording of “Blues from the Apple,” it’s sad to realize it... The producers would like to acknowledge the special assistance of Rob Witter, Mike Bifulco and Ms. Josephine Walker who “made our burden so much lighter and our future so much brighter.”

ANDY EGERT took his time for his second album with Brambus and chose the right songs. "Fire On The Crossroad" presents the guitar blues in a brilliant way and ranks him in the ranks of the greats in the international blues scene. Mainly influenced by Chicago & British Blues, Andy Egert (voc., git., bluesharp) convinces in the classic trio formation with Martin Stoffner (dr.) and Robi Schweizer (b) with rousingly arranged numbers by Johnny "Guitar" Watson, Robert Johnson, Alvin Lee or J. B. Lenoir, but also with his own numbers, which he wrote together with the "Endless Avenue" songwriter Ernst Eggenberger. The band line-up also benefits from the participation of the superb Tosho Yakkatokuo (dr.) and the soon to be legendary bassist Bob Stroger from the heart of the Chicago scene. Musicians:
Alto Saxophone – Samuel Ross
Bass – Daryl Johnson
Drums – Eddie Gillespie
Guitar – Bernard Watts
Guitar, Vocals – Johnny Rawls

Johnny Rawls turns in an impressive debut with Here We Go. Although he doesn't do anything new to the soul-blues genre, the record is entertaining in the vein of Z.Z. Hill and latter-day Bobby Bland. Rawls has a powerful, soulful voice which can make mediocre material sound convincing. Unfortunately, there are a few too many half-hearted cuts here, but that doesn't prevent the album from being a promising debut.

Three-time Australian Blues Music Award winners and Australian Roots Music Award nominees Blues Arcadia combine the legendary soul of Stax and Motown with the heat and power of the Chicago and Memphis blues to create a unique dirty-soul sound delivered with swagger, style, and sensitivity. The band made a huge impact with their debut album Carnival Of Fools (2019) with 4.5 stars from The Australian Weekend Review, 5 stars from the Sunday Mail, a #5 debut on the AIR Independent Charts and a #1 debut on the Australian Blues and Roots Airplay Charts, and have since brought their energetic and authentic live show across the country to festivals and venues everywhere from far North QLD to Adelaide. Now the dynamic Brisbane five-piece have taken things to a whole new level, recently unleashing their killer second album Now Or Never with fresh forays into funk and jazz, while never straying too far from their grounding in the blues. Keys player Paula Girvan brings the jazz, while the longstanding rhythm section of bassist Jeremy Klysz and drummer Casper Hall brings the funk. Guitarist Chris Harvey fuses the fluency of Stevie Ray Vaughan with the more traditional blues stylings of the “Three Kings” (Albert, Freddie and B.B.), yet his playing sounds thrillingly contemporary. Frontman Alan Boyle sings it like he lives it, wrenching every last drop of sweat, passion and emotion from lyrics that speak to direct experience. Blues Arcadia are five strong individual personalities working together to create something uniquely exciting. It’s almost impossible to choose which of them to watch and engage with during a show, where each player directs their energy into the most important thing – the Song, making it the best it can be. That is the power of Blues Arcadia.

The Italian blues brothers are back after the compilation "No Balls, No Blues Chips" which allowed us to discover their universe made of garage blues and mastered second degree. Faithful to their minimalist bias, Superdownhome reminds us with "Blues Pyromaniacs" that blues is above all a state of mind and that it has much more to do with the intention with which it is played than with any technical mastery. It is this mixture of strong character and feigned nonchalance that makes the strength of the transalpine duo, whose energy often turns out to be more rock (or even punk) than blues when listening to this new album. Even if Superdownhome's music relies on a fat blues sound a la ZZ Top ('Utter Daze'), it can't deny its filiation with Dr Feelgood's pub rock ('My Girl C'est Bon'), the rock and roll of the sixties and the rhythm and blues. This is the case with tracks like 'Nobody's Twist' and the cover of John Lennon's 'New York City', and it is also the case with the excellent 'Motorway Son', which reminds the good old days of Roy Orbison and the Traveling Wilburys. But beyond the Italians' penchant for a burnt and efficient blues rock, the real identity of Superdownhome lies in a raspy sound and in the almost systematic use of the fuzz pedal, borrowed from garage rock, which dresses the tracks with its characteristic buzzing saturation and makes them almost irresistible. It is thus very difficult not to tap your foot when listening to 'Ain't No Real Love' and 'Ambition Craze', nor to let yourself be carried away by the excellent cover of 'Don't Bring Me Down' by Electric Light Orchestra.
Even if Superdownhome doesn't invent anything, the music of the Italians is sufficiently groovy and sensual to carry the adhesion. Halfway between blues and rock, "Blues Pyromaniacs" is an efficient album, perfectly mastered and especially warm and comforting. It's hard to ask for more in this more than secular musical style.

Live From The Fallout Shelter: Celebrating 20 Years’ slated for February 17, 2023 release/Three-time Blues Music Award winner John Németh celebrates 20 years since his first album, The Jack of Harps, was released (2002) with this live recording of the last show of his Spring 2022 tour at The Fallout Shelter in Norwood, MA.  The 13 dynamic live tracks are accompanied by a 12-page commemorative CD booklet.Twenty years of writing and performing award-winning blues is a significant career milestone for anyone, but for John Németh it represents so much more. Having emerged from a debilitating case of infectious arthritis in 2019 with the material for his Stronger Than Strong (October 2020) album, only to be knocked back down again and grounded by the global pandemic; then receiving a new diagnosis of a benign but aggressive tumor which required amputation of his lower jaw; all combined as the catalyst for a series of outstanding performances during Németh’s Spring 2022 tour. This live recording captures the last show on the tour, described by venue owner William Hurley as “one of the most electric shows we’ve ever hosted at The Fallout Shelter”, and a perfect commemoration of the strength and determination of one of today’s most dynamic contemporary blues artists./“John Németh is gifted with the ability to not only entertain but personally connect with his audience both on and offstage.  I know his devoted fanbase will share in the celebration of this career milestone, which is a triumph of both personal and professional resilience,” says Sallie Bengtson, Nola Blue Records president./Németh says, “I am forever grateful to everyone that has made it possible for this second chance in life. Thank you to Nola Blue and The Fallout Shelter for arranging this wonderful recording.  I am looking forward to many more great performances to come with The Blue Dreamers.”

Joe Louis Walker - Weight of the World

 9. Bed of Roses - 4:38
10. You Got Me Whipped - 6:24

On February 17th, Forty Below Records will release Weight of the World, the new album by award-winning Blues and Roots musician Joe Louis Walker.A Blues Hall of Fame inductee and six-time Blues Music Award winner, NPR described Walker as “a legendary boundary-pushing icon of modern blues.” His 2015 release, Everyone Wants a Piece, was nominated for the Contemporary Blues Grammy. In addition, Walker dueted with B.B. King on his Grammy Award-winning Blues Summit album and played guitar on James Cotton’s Grammy-winning album Deep in the Blues.Recorded with Producer Eric Corne (John Mayall, Walter Trout, Sugaray Rayford), Weight of the World showcases the depth of Walker’s influences and the prowess with which he commands different genres; be it Soul, “The Weight of the World,” “Is it a Matter of Time,” “Don’t Walk Out That Door,” Gospel, “Hello, it’s the Blues,” Funk, “Count Your Chickens,” New Orleans 2nd line, “Waking Up the Dead,” Indie Blues “Root Down,” Rock N Roll, “Blue Mirror,” Contemporary Blues, “Bed of Roses,” or Jazz, “You Got Me Whipped.” It’s a compelling album that displays a master at the height of his game. They say Roots musicians age like fine wine, which certainly rings true with Walker. Weight of the World is a resounding statement and quite possibly the beginning of the most remarkable chapter of a storied career. Recorded just outside of Woodstock, NY, with musicians Scott Milici (Keys), John Medeiros Jr.(Drums), Geoff Murfitt (Bass), Eddie Jackson (Bongos), Marc Pender (Trumpet), David Ralicke (Saxophone), Eric Gorfain (Violins), Gia Ciambotti (Background Vocals) and Producer Eric Corne (Background Vocals, Guitar), who also engineered and mixed the album. Walker and Corne split writing duties on the album. The title track is a metaphor for the times we live in. “Out here at the edge of the world / It’s starting to curl / We’ve upset the big shareholder.” As the pandemic lingers on, the cost of doing business rises, and global temperatures soar, musicians like Walker have felt the impact as much as anyone. Another standout track, “Hello, it’s the Blues,” portrays a virtual conversation between the Blues in the form of a guardian angel and the listener, “I’ve been here all the time, in your heart and in your mind.” The track features a breathtaking string arrangement by Eric Gorfain (Neil Diamond, Roseanne Cash, Dionne Warwick,) a riveting nylon string guitar solo, and moving Gospel-influenced vocals with Gia Ciambotti (Joe Walsh, Bruce Springsteen.) Walker’s “Is it a Matter of Time” and “Don’t Walk Out That Door” are classic Stax/Hi Records style songs with beautiful harmonies and punchy horns over Walker’s brilliant harmonic changes and deft guitar playing. Corne counters with two sharp-tongued numbers, “Waking Up the Dead” and “Count Your Chickens.” The former is driven by a propulsive 2nd Line meets Bo Diddley groove with a snaking slide guitar seemingly representing the song’s main character.”  It’s masterfully written,” says Walker. The latter is a fox in the henhouse tale of warning with a smoking funk arrangement by Walker and his sneaky great band.Walker’s output spans the gamut of American Roots music, and he is regarded as one of his generation’s greatest bluesmen. Billboard found that his playing “blows all over the map…gutbucket blues, joyous gospel, Rolling Stones-style rock crunch, and aching R&B. Walker’s guitar playing is fine and fierce.” A brilliantly lyrical guitarist, soulful singer, and prolific songwriter, Walker has toured extensively throughout his career, performing at some of the world’s most renowned music festivals, such as Glastonbury and Montreux, as well as on national television, with appearances on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, The Don Imus Show and Later With Jools Holland in the UK, earning him a legion of dedicated fans along the way. Walker has recorded with Ike Turner, Bonnie Raitt, Taj Mahal, and Steve Cropper, opened for Muddy Waters and Thelonious Monk, hung out with Jimi Hendrix, Freddie King, Mississippi Fred McDowell, and was a close friend and roommate of Mike Bloomfield.Walker’s 1986 debut album Cold Is the Night on HighTone announced his arrival in stunning fashion, and his subsequent output for Verve, Alligator, HighTone, and others only served to further establish Walker as one of today’s leading bluesmen. The New York Times raved, “Walker is a singer with a Cadillac of a voice. His guitar solos are fast, wiry, and incisive, moaning with bluesy despair.” Rolling Stone called him “ferocious.” A myriad of organizations have recognized Joe for his achievements. He’s a member of the Blues Hall of Fame, was named a USA Fellow by United States Artists, won multiple W.C. Handy Awards and Blues Music Awards, has been a recipient of San Francisco’s prestigious Bammy Awards, and was also awarded a lifetime achievement award from the Mississippi Valley Blues Society.Referred to as “A musician’s musician,” Walker has earned his

Dyer Davis first made himself heard about two years ago through his contribution to the album 'WildRoots Sessions Volume 2'. The song 'The Bad Seed' was so much appreciated by producers Stephan Dees and Billy Chaplin that they were open to further collaboration with 23-year-old singer guitarist Dyer Davis from Florida. Until recently he played in the band Ruber Soul Child, but after playing rock music for eight years it was time to focus on the work of the blues rock musicians from the sixties and seventies who had already known him at a young age. inspired. His father, who is also a musician, played albums by Jeff Beck and Rod Stewart at home and this sparked his love for blues music at a young age. A number of renowned musicians such as Victor Wainwright (keys), Billy Dean (drums), Stephan Dees (bass), Patricia Ann Dees (saxophone) and Billy Chaplin (guitar) have given Dyer Davis on his debut album 'Dog Bites Back' on excellent way supported. Dyer Davis has a powerful singing voice and he immediately shows that in the Jeff Beck and Rod Stewart covered 'Let Me Love You', which is firmly put down. But that is also the only cover on this album. The rest of the songs were written by Dyer Davis himself or with and by his accompanying musicians. Like the pumping shuffle 'Walk Away My Blues' by Steven Dees and Victor Wainwright. 'Water Into Wine' moves more towards melodic rock, and then with 'Cryin' Shame', with beautiful horns on a groovy funky track. Solid blues rock tracks (Train Wreck, Long Way To Go, Dog Bites Back) are interspersed with soulfully played songs like 'Lifting Up My Soul' and 'These Walls'. With the acoustically played roots song 'Wind Is Gonna Change' Dyer slows down a bit. The two closing tracks (Don't Tell My Mother, AKA) also fall into the Americana / Roots rock category. On 'Dog Bites Back', Dyer Davis shows that he does not limit himself to one style, no, the eight years that he has played rock music clearly leave their mark.
