B's Time is a career retrospective, featuring seventeen songs from Al's solo CDs, remastered using the most up-to-date technology by Glenn Halverson at his Sonic Hill Studio in Ooltewah, Tennessee. The songs have never sounded so good, and many are from releases early in Al's career, before he became much better known following his 8 Blues Awards nominations starting in 2010. Though they originate from a 25-year span, they sound completely contemporary, showing that Al's work is timeless, and that his output has been remarkably consistent since the beginning.

Almost fifty years ago to the month, British rock band Wishbone Ash brought out ‘Live Dates’, their most commercially successful album. A milestone, not only for the band, but also in the history of rock music. “At the time, we had been on tour non-stop for three years, had released ‘Argus’ – from today’s point of view our most important studio album – and were like a well-oiled machine,” remembers founder Andy Powell, who continues to helm the group. “We had made a name for ourselves as a dynamic live act, so it only made sense to capture the energy and vibrancy of our shows on a live album. Fortunately, the record company funded the costly Rolling Stones Mobile Recording Truck, so we were able to record several shows during our UK tour and compile the most powerful moments on ‘Live Dates’.” Fast forward half a century and we find ourselves in the summer of 2023, with Wishbone Ash celebrating the anniversary of their 1973 concert classic with a new edition. “New” meaning: the same material in exactly the same sequence, performed by the current line-up and recorded at Daryl’s House Club in Pawling, New York. The new release is entitled ‘Live Dates Live’ and will be available on most formats. Andy Powell: “‘Live Dates Live’ is our tribute to the original and our thank-you to all those fans who have been instrumental in making Wishbone Ash one of the few bands from the early seventies who are still active today, who still record new albums and tour on a regular basis.”
Of course, Wishbone Ash mark 2023 has little in common with the 1973 line-up. Or do they? After all, guitarist/vocalist Andy Powell still keeps a tight hold of the musical reins. In addition, guitarist Mark Abrahams, bassist Bob Skeat and drummer Mike Truscott are first-rate musicians, some of whom may be a lot younger, but ooze the original spirit and philosophy of this outstanding band.

Magnificent Fiend is the second album from Howlin Rain. By turns pummeling and pastoral, it oscillates between roaring, all-stops-out, Hammond organ-driven tracks and delicate electric piano passages, topped by harmonized, often dissonant guitar lines. Toss in counter-melodic bass, sometimes quirky breaks, and extended instrumental sequences that are either ascending to the heavens or cascading softly, from the skies in sparkling showers of gunpowder and smoke. All held together by Miller's distinctive, crushed-velvet roar-redolent of British R&B giants Steve Marriott or Terry Reid which extends to a sweet, plaintive falsetto and lyrical content. It is the first to be issued under a joint agreement between multi-platinum record producer Rick Rubin's American label and San Francisco-based indie Birdman Records.

In 1973 OMAR & THE HOWLERS were founded in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, by guitarist and vocalist Omar Dykes, Shortly after the musicians moved to Austin, Texas. However, the band disbanded because some members felt they could not make a living from music. But Omar decided to stay in Austin and looked for new feloow musicians. With “Big Leg Beat” the first longplayer was released in 1980, 7 years later OMAR & THE HOWLERS signed their first big record deal with Columbia. Rootsy bluesrock is the trademark of the band, enriched with a bit of southern rock, here and there you can also hear some musical borrowings from CCR. Now OMAR & THE HOWLERS release the live album “Magic Man”, recorded in September 1989 in the Bremen club “Modernes” by the technicians of Radio Bremen, with their long-time regular line-up feat. Omar Dykes (guit., voc.), John Inmon (guit.), Bruce Jones (bass) and Gene Brandon (drums). Omar Dykes: “I toured extensively in Germany, and I appreciate MIG for releasing the Bremen radio concert to preserve the music for fans to enjoy even today.”

 9. I Want You - 6:14
10. Drown (Jam) - 2:11

Danny Bryant’s Rise’ is his 13th album and finds the Brit bluesrocker straddling his favoured blues-rock genre with song driven forays into Americana and gospel. It’s an album that digs deep for emotion both lyrically and musically. And while Danny brusque voice is well suited to some big arrangements, he finds something extra within himself to inject a number of ballads, heartfelt narratives and always the blues, with equal measures of emotional weight and musical inspiration.
The album cover finds him glancing sideways, hidden behind shades in hues of blues.  It gives the impression he’s thinking that having come this far with his bluesrock template, this might be the moment to expand things. In fact his previous albums have already illustrated his ability to look within himself for lyrical inspiration, no more so than ‘Invisible Me’ on ‘The Rage To Survive’ and ‘Isolate’ on Revelation. And though this album is in part reflective, it’s more about recalibrating a restless musical spirit rather than settling into familiar pattern.

Two musicians without palliatives. Tony Coleman, consummate and superlative drummer, Henry Carpaneto, superior and superb keyboardist. They have known each other for a long time, they have collaborated in the studio recording, and in 2019 they toured Europe together. The songs on this album were recorded at the Teatro della Tosse, Genova (Italy) in a state of unsurpassed excellence, with a hot backing band and Tony and Henry at the height of performance. The beat is relentless, high voltage funk, a honky tonk blues statement, it's only crazy rhythm and blues. You have to be ready for these guys, they can't catch you off guard.

The Mighty Reapers - Trouble People

Year: 1994
Time: 62:16

Label: Rufus/Terra Nova Records
Styles: Funk /Soul/Blues/Rhythm & Blues
Art: Front

Tracks Listing:
1. If It Ain't One Thing - 3:27
 2. Shotgun - 6:16
 3. One Way Out - 5:36
 4. Bad Luck Attack - 2:59
 5. Trouble People - 4:14

 8. Cold, Cold Feeling - 5:06
 9. You Gotta Reap - 3:30
10. Blind Love - 4:47
11. Blue Blue Blues (with Margie Evans) - 5:09
12. Mistreated Woman (with Margie Evans) - 4:36
13. It's A Shame (with Margie Evans) - 4:57

The Mighty Reapers were formed by “Continental” Robert Susz in 1986 with Dave Brewer (fellow member of the Dynamic Hepnotics, one of the most successful soul/blues/funk bands in Australia). Over the years, the Mighty Reapers have earned themselves a reputation as one of the finest live acts in Australia. The Mighty Reapers continue to be a popular band across Australia and have played at most Australian blues and jazz festivals, including the East Coast Blues and Roots Festival (Byron Bay), Gold Coast International Jazz Festival (Qld), the Manly Jazz and Blues Festival (NSW), Thredbo Blues Festival (NSW), Australian Blues Music Festival (Goulburn, NSW), Wangaratta Jazz Festival (Vic).Since their beginnings, the Mighty Reapers have been in demand both for their own shows, and as a support band for touring international artists including: BB King, Albert King, Buddy Guy, Screaming Jay Hawkins, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, Lonnie Mack and others. The Reapers also supplied backing on tours by artists such as Hubert Sumlin (Howlin’Wolf), Louisiana Red, Billy Branch, Bobby Radcliff, Big Jay McNeely, Mojo Buford (Muddy Waters), Phillip Walker and Margie Evans. The Mighty Reapers offer a great mix of original tunes, their distinctive covers and for the first time record their work with US blues/soul/gospel diva, Margie Evans.Definitely the best of the Mighty Reapers catalogue although 'You Gotta Reap" comes close. Possibly the best funk/blues album yet released in Australia. The Reapers who have unfortunately now disbanded were for years untouchable as Australia's leading live blues act. Their sound has been described as James Brown meets Junior Wells. It is driven by Robert Susz' soulful vocals and harmonica and Dave Brewer's sublime guitar work but any of these guys would get a gig in the top blues bands playing anywhere in the world. On this recording the band is augmented by a horn section of the cream of Sydney jazz men.Trouble People features excellent versions of T Bone Walker's Cold Cold Feeling, Curtis Mayfield's We're Rolling On and plenty of first class originals.Definitely worth tracking a copy of this down for some state of the art Aussie Blues.

Grant Haua - Mana Blues

Bitrate: 320K/s
Year: 2023
Time: 41:42
Size: 96,2 MB
Label: Dixiefrog
Styles: Blues
Art: Front

Tracks Listing:
 1. Pukehinahina - 5:29
 2. Billie Holiday - 4:13
 3. Blame It On A Monday - 3:42
 4. Jealousy - 3:48
 5. Good Stuff - 3:48
 6. Embers - 4:48
 7. Time Of Dying - 3:59
 8. Aches - 4:08
 9. Bad Mofo - 4:22
10. To Be Loved - 3:20

“ Those familiar with my music will notice this album is a lot different from previous releases which were written around the acoustic guitar. I often ask myself if it is a mistake to release an electric album (and a pretty heavy one at that) but in the end I thought what the hell you only live once ! “
“Being Generation X these songs are heavily influenced by that period which I consider in pop/rock history, musically arguably the best. I know it will probably be criticized for being too “old fashioned” by some but I can honestly say I’ll take that as a compliment as my musical “D.N.A” is defined by that period in time”.
“The songs about war on this album (“Pukehinahina” and “Embers”) are also a departure from the norm as a writer for me. These are serious topics which I normally steer clear of having not known the horror of it personally, but I’m glad I did. Researching the battle of Pukehinahina filled me with a sense pride that brought me to tears on occasion from the sheer badassery of what my tipuna (ancestors) achieved. This song moves me completely and no doubt that the amazing contribution of Mathieu and Laurent from The Inspector Cluzo brings even more rage to that piece of music”
“In regards to Embers, walking the war museums that laid bare the atrocities of the Holocaust and standing on the beaches of Normandy I felt an incredible mix of sadness, loss, but also pride, awe and respect for men long in the ground, many of whom are tipuna as well-now. If that’s not worthy of a song I don’t know what is !”
“As I’m writing this the war in Ukraine rages on : when the fuck will we ever learn ! The rest of the album is my standard fare all be it electrified, hope you enjoy it ! “.
For the rest, this album leans more towards Grant Haua’s usual standards, albeit in a more “electrified” form. These are tracks that he considers essential to him. Whether he’s singing about love (“Jealousy”, “To Be Loved”), paying homage to the greats (“Billie Holiday”, “Bad Mofo”, a stunning cover of Blind Willie Johnson’s “My Time Of Dying” previously magnified by Led Zeppelin), expressing the daily pains of the soul and/or body (“Aches”, “Blame It On Monday”), or simply searching for the simple things in life (“Good Stuff”). In short, everything that contributes to the alchemy of a magnificent album and confirms that Grant Haua definitively belongs to that group of artists who possess that “extra something” which only the greatest artists have !

Barbara Morrison (September 10, 1949 – March 16, 2022) was an American jazz singer. Born in Ypsilanti, Michigan, on September 10, 1949, and raised in Romulus, Michigan, Barbara Morrison recorded her first appearance for radio in Detroit at the age of 10. In 1973 when she was 23, she moved to Los Angeles and sang with Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson's band. Between the mid-1970s and early 1990s, she recorded several albums with Johnny Otis In 2019 Miss Morrison created the Barbara Morrison Performing Arts Center in Leimert Park, California (a section of Los Angeles) where it provides a venue for performers of all ages and all cultures, promoting music and dance. The City of Los Angeles named the intersection in front of her venue Barbara Morrison Square in her honor in 2022. Weighing in on her legacy Carol Connors said “The first time I heard Barbara Morrison’s jazz interpretation of my song “With you I’m Born Again” I felt like I had been born again… I had never heard it like she sang it. And the first thing I did after I picked myself off the floor, was call David Shire and he called me back after he picked himself off the floor. She had done us proud!

The lyrics are fun and witty starting with the title track, talking about those ‘crawstickers’ that stick with you not always in a positive way. And "There Must Be Something Wrong With You," about people that despite their huge differences decide to stay together. This one is a duet with singer Mary Ann Redmond. Another fabulous duet, this time with Patty Reese, is the swing "The Country's Gone From Me". Redmond and Reese provide the wonderful backing vocals on the old fashioned rock and roll, "Fast and Loud".

Canadian singer Wayne Nicholson, in the tradition of the great rock and blues vocalists over the decades.
In the tradition of the great rock and blues vocalists over the decades, Wayne Nicholson deserves a seat at the table with blues rockers like Paul Rodgers, Steve Marriott, Jim Morrison, and David Clayton Thomas. A cheeky or bold-faced statement? Not at all. Gifted with a great set of pipes, Nicholson has long been recognized on the East Coast of Canada as the preeminent blues-rock voice for several well-known groups, including Horse and the Oakley Band. Singer, songwriter, producer, musician, frontman, volunteer and, go-to guy are just a few of the admirable traits bestowed upon Wayne. Crisscrossing Canada more than a few times along the way, he left his mark wherever he played and impressed many with his command, humour, and infectious stage presence.
Nicholson is getting set to release his seventh solo album, Ginhouse on September 22nd, starting with the single "Shuckin' Corn With Muddy Waters." Bookending the album with fast and slow versions of Nina Simone’s take on "Gin House Blues" is a stroke of genius. Instead what we’ve got is a remarkable Tony D-produced collection of 11 cohesive tracks (including 8 Nicholson-penned originals) that features a crack band of local Halifax, N.S. musical veterans – Bruce Dixon, Neal Robertson, Kim Dunn, and Bill Stephenson. Recorded at Joel Plaskett’s Fang Studios in Dartmouth, N.S., Gin House is a blues tour de force. Wayne Nicholson has undeniably earned his stripes on the Canadian Shield's rock and blues landscape. Although he may be a best-kept secret to some, there is a flip side of course, and those who know… definitely know. Gin House is your opportunity to hear one of Canada's finest singer-songwriters do what he does best.

Dom Martin - A Savage Life

Bitrate: 320K/s
Year: 2022
Time: 32:32
Size: 74,9 MB
Label: Self-Released
Styles: Blues/Blues Rock
Art: Front

Tracks Listing:
 1. Unsatisfied - 2:44
 2. Here Comes The River - 3:48
 3. Blues On The Bay - 2:47
 4. The Man From Nowhere - 3:06
 5. 12 Gauge - 2:20
 6. Echoes - 4:15
 7. Drink In Blue Colours - 3:31
 8. Addict - 3:27
 9. Maxwell Shuffle - 3:05
10. The Parting Glass - 3:25

Hailing from Northern Ireland, Dom Martin has been impressing the world of blues rock with his powerful and striking sound. Having started his career in 2018 and launched his first full-length album Spain To Italy in 2019, the award-winning Martin has featured and left quite the impression in numerous festivals across Europe, which earned him the label of the next Rory Gallagher. To be compared to one of the genre’s all-time greats is quite the feat at such an early stage of one’s career, but Martin’s appeal goes far beyond comparisons with icons of the past. His bold style, which combines rawness with subtlety, also represents the present and future of blues rock. Martin released his sophomore album, A Savage Life, last April. Backed by Dave Thompson (bass) and Laurence McKeown (drums), Martin offers a selection of songs focused on his blues and roots influences, either amped up by a rocking attack or approached more subtly. The production is top-notch and allows the instruments enough room to breathe while the overall sound retains a modern, clean-sounding standard. The album kicks off with a rough, heavy-on-fuzz, blues rocker in “Unsatisfied”. The track’s slow-burning pace provides the groundwork for Martin’s expressive, battle-weary vocals and guitar heroics. His aggression is then softened for the two following tracks: “Here Comes The River” is a calm, acoustic number that is more folk than blues while “Blues On The Bay” is an evocative, slow blues number filled with tasty licks.
“The Man From Nowhere” is a retro-styled, front-porch blues number and another example of Martin’s range of styles. “12 Gauge”, on the other hand, is a fierce blues rocker, complete with a colossal riff and fast lead guitar runs. It’s a perfect example of how a modern, high-powered blues rock song should sound. “Drink In Blue Colours” and the instrumental “Maxwell Shuffle” are also highlights for the latter part of the record. A Savage Life is another step in the career of a musician who increasingly establishes himself as a prominent figure when it comes to blues rock. Expect to hear more about Dom Martin and his approach that pays tribute to the past but does not forget to look to the future. Lastly, we also highly recommend that you stay tuned for his next releases and catch him live whenever possible.

Dom Martin - Buried In The Hail

 4. Belfast Blues - 3:45
 5. Crazy - 3:51
 6. Unhinged - 3:23
 7. The Fall - 5:34
 8. Howlin - 3:37
 9. Buried in the Hail - 4:31
10. Lefty 2 Guns - 3:56
11. Laid to Rest - 0:57

Multi award-winning Blues/Rock/Americana/Roots artist Dom Martin is pleased to announce his highly anticipated third studio album Buried In The Hail released by Forty Below Records on 22nd September 2023.
“Buried In the Hail,” Dom Martin’s third studio album, was recorded at Golden Egg Studios in Ireland and produced in Dublin by Grammy-Nominated producers Chris O’Brien and Graham Murphy and co-produced by Dom Martin. Very much steeped in the Roots, Americana, and the Blues genres, many of the tracks on the new album possess an almost cinematic theme.
Dom admits the new album is the first complete work that he’s recorded which he is 100% happy with and proud to release. Says Dom, “Buried In the Hail is the kind of album where the more you listen to it, the more you will get out of it.”
Dom explains about “Unhinged,” the first single to be released from the album, “I chose this song as the first single from the album because it was the most difficult and yet most fun one to record mainly because the 5 watt Champ I used was on fire and ready to explode. It sounded great though. A Gibson 339 with these mystery pickups is plugged into that amp, this is the only set up will give you that sound. It is a song about the fakes out there, smiling to your face and crossing your name off papers! You know, them! We are living and working in an unhinged world.
Why the cover of Willie Nelson’s “Crazy”? “When I was a kid, I always loved the song, my Aunt Breda was a Patsy fan, I think I liked it most probably for the key change, I was shocked when I later found out it was written by Willie Nelson, what a guy! This version is how I felt at the time, I had the music and these lyrics just fit in more ways than one

From the gutsy slide riff of the opening “Chi-Town State of Mind” to the infectious guitar riff and slick string arrangement of the title track “Basic Blue” Other highlights include “Blindsided” a rocker that features killer fretwork from Agwada who remains in top form all throughout this outing, the funky clavinet-laden “President”, “Black Rain” an atmospheric slow Blues that showcases blazing fretwork by Agwada and “Head Too Tight” a funky instrumental that is sure to remind listeners that the spirit of Albert Collins is alive and well in third-generation Bluesmen such as Agwada. A few surprises ensue, with former Rolling Stone and harmonica wunderkind, Sugar Blue as special guest on “Shake it Up” and “Right on Time”. Blues powerhouse Larry McCray contributes some tasty guitar to “Right on Time” as well. The Chicago Horns also return for an encore performance on “Shake it Up”/

Blues Traveler's frontman goes solo again, with an album that sounds a lot like the past. When members of bands go off on their own to do solo projects, it’s usually to fill a creative need they can’t shoehorn into their main gig. There are bouts of ego that come into play, but leaving cynicism aside, the majority of solo albums arise from artistic wanderlust, the idea that there’s always something new to try out. These flights of fancy don’t always work, and many times they become the cause of frustration both from band members who feel unappreciated, and from fans who can’t understand how the solo leanings of their favorite artists fit into their own notions of what music should be. Once in a while, however, a solo album will be confusing for a different reason; we can’t understand why it needed to be made at all. When John Popper stepped outside the limits of Blues Traveler with his first solo album, Zygote, at the height of their popularity, the reasons were obvious. The songs he had written were songwriter’s songs, the kind that needed a touch and nuance his band would not have been able to bring to them. Likewise, his second solo project, the obviously titled John Popper Project, found him grafting his persona atop thick beats, another endeavor that could not have happened in Blues Traveler. Assembling the Duskray Troubadours would seem to indicate another new experience on the way, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. This new project is not an insular bout of writing, nor a foray into unfamiliar sonic territory. The band and the album feel very much like the Blues Traveler of old, with the dials turned back ever so slightly. They have been turning the guitars up as they age, laying more and more keyboards into the thick soup of their sound, while the Troubadours strip away the excess, leaving a more organic sound that echoes large patches of the first four Blues Traveler albums. The most recent Blues Traveler album, North Hollywood Shootout, was conceived as an effort to bring more melody back into the mix. While that album fell short on many levels, it set the stage for the Troubadours, who pick up where that record left off, refining the sound and making sense of the mission. The similarity of tone is what makes this new project unusual; this isn’t music that would be foreign to a Blues Traveler album. The album’s origins have no bearing on the music, which is a welcome return to form for Popper. As Blues Traveler has evolved in recent years, his trademark harmonica playing has been buried beneath layers of keyboards and growling guitars. With more sonic room to himself, the hypersonic solos he perfected have been stolen from the past, albeit slowed down to match the pace of the music. Still, hearing him playing is a welcome bout of nostalgia, which is what the record as a whole tends to be.While “Something Sweet” comes and goes without a chorus, and a few others lack a visceral punch, melody is indeed the order of the day. The hooks aren’t towering, Popper’s voice doesn’t reach for the sheer volume he requires in Blues Traveler, but his knack for melody is undiminished. Every song has a memorable vocal line, once the songs have had time to unfold on repeated listens. The Troubadours have crafted a subtle album, one that feels in line with what the leader of a band entering its twenty-fifth year might be thinking; slowing down isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The reasons for this album might be questionable, but the music isn’t. What the Troubadours have provided is a reminder of why so many people fell in love with Blues Traveler all those years ago.
