An amazing discovery. Not unlike ROOM FULL OF BLUES and THUNDERBIRDS if you need referance points. A good time is guaranteed with this cd and it is sure to get the party started. Covers a lot of BLUES / R&B styles and does all of them justice. Great vocals, great guitar, clever songs - what's not to like.
5.0 de 5 estrellas Excellent Material, First Rate Presentation!
The Groove Hogs are a big, ten piece, band from the mid west that are nothing short of excellent. In addition to your usual blues guitar, organ, harp and drums you also get a five-piece horn section that is a cross between the retro blues sound of the Roomful of Blues and the soulful sound of the Tower of Power horns. While the horns sometimes steal the show, the vocals of Ron Hanson and the guitar of Pat Liel deserve mention. Ron's vocals add a rock style quality to the mix while Pat Liel adds some stinging lead and funky rhythms. Overall, a first rate recording of mostly original material and one that warrants consideration.
To put this simply, The Groove Hogs are THE *REAL* DEAL!! Here's a great live band that has developed into a world class studio band as well. Combining various portions of Tower Of Power, Edgar Winter's White Trash and Roomful Of Blues they retain the ability to add a personal stamp that is all their own. These guys can rock hard enough for virtually anyone, just take a listen to "Blues Is My Business"......one of the *best* opening tracks I've heard in recent memory. If you want to hear the best Tower Of Power song they never wrote give a listen to "Positive Trip". The Groove Hogs have it all! GET THEIR CD'S AND AMAZE YOURSELF AND YOUR FRIENDS!!
