Fifty Bucks and Free Beer is a reference to what the Fat Tones got paid for a gig back when they first started out. Needless to say, they played where they had “good” beer on tap. Michael, Bob and Bobby are all first-rate lead vocalists and their harmonies are phenomenal.
Just give a listen to “Plain Jane” and you will hear what I’m talking about. However, behind those fine vocals this three piece some solid blues grooves that belie their small size. They can rock it out too, as they do on “Don’t Get Me Started.” My favorite track on Fifty Bucks
and Free Beer is “Through and Through.” This song sucks you in with a great groove on the drums and then a jazzy guitar interlude. It is a toe tapper from start to finish. The Fat Tones are known for songs with witty lyrics and all four of their regular release CD’s (their 1st CD was
a special limited edition) Bomb Run; Three; Struttin’; and now “$50” are all worth having in your CD collection. The Fat Tones put on a storming no holds barred live show and always leave the crowd happy and wanting to hear more. The Fat Tones have earned multiple Inland
Empire Blues Society’s, Empire Award nominations since coming on the scene in 2003 and have brought home numerous awards starting with winning the 2004 Award for Best New Band (2 years or less) and have taken home hardware every year since and this CD illustrates
why. I highly recommend Fifty Bucks and Free Beer ~ Malcolm Kennedy
