Roy Roberts became hooked on music while growing up in a small town in Tennessee, listening to blues and R&B on radio stations WLAC out of Nashville. Jimmy Reed’s “Baby What You Want Me to Do” was the clincher, and at the age of 14, Roy worked on a nearby farm to earn the money for his first guitar.When he turned 18, he moved to Greensboro, North Carolina to live with an uncle. There he had another inspiration to become a professional musician, when he and a carload of friends happened upon a nightclub where Jerry Butler was performing and making quite an impression on the ladies. Roy sharpened his skills while playing in makeshift bands until he landed a job with local hero Guitar Kimbers’ Untouchables. Before long, Roy was backing up major artists who came through town. One of those artists, Solomon Burke, took young Roy under his wing after letting him sit in as a bass player during a local gig. He was soon handling the guitar chores behind the future soul legend on tour. Roberts subsequently picked up touring gigs with such luminaries as Eddie Floyd, “Little” Stevie Wonder, Dee Clark, and Otis Redding, while fronting his own band, The Roy Roberts Experience, on the regional club scene and Southeastern beach town circuit. Roy began to cut records in the mid-sixties, staying mostly behind the scenes as a session man. The tragic death of Otis Redding inspired him to step up to the microphone with a song dedicated to the late crooner. The record was released on Nina Simone’s NinaAndy label and backed by an ace studio band. Roy followed this successful effort with a string of 45’s that carried him well into the seventies. During the disco years, Roy turned his talents to country music, touring with the great O.B. McClinton and releasing a number of country records. After a brief hiatus from the music scene, Roy built a recording studio in Virginia in 1989, where he produced records by regional gospel artists and cut a gospel record of his own.One day in the early nineties, he heard a young Robert Cray singing the blues on the radio. “That cat’s got my style,” he declared, and got the blues fever once again. Besides recording his own material on Rock House, Roberts has produced albums for the label by Priscilla Price, Lou Pride, Chick Willis, Skeeter Brandon, Floyd Miles, Eddie Floyd, and many more. Roy continues to record and produce records for his label, and tours the U.S. and Europe regularly. Donna Herula is a Chicago Blues Hall of Famer. A native Chicagoan, she sings, plays slide guitar, writes many of her own songs and is just one heck of a great entertainer. Her noted and award winning 2021 album Bang At The Door set the bar high for future work, and Donna is up to the task with her new album of ten mostly original tracks. 
Joining Herula on the album are Tony Wittrock on acoustic and electric guitars, Marc Edelstein on bass, and Kenny “Beedy Eyes” Smith on drums. Also appearing are Jon Shain on guitars, Alton Smith on keys, Anne Harris on violin, John Jochem on harp, Steve Eisen on sax, Rick Barnes on percussion, and on backing vocals are Candy LaFlora, Kary Ream and Rebecca Toon.
Herula excels on her National Tritone with some pretty slide work for “On My Way Home” to open the album. A beautiful acoustic cut, Donna gives us something to remember as she begins with some amazing finger picking and slide.
The title track is next and it rocks with electric and slide guitar as Herula sings about backing out of a wedding with cold feet.  She sings with an attitude as she explains her concerns: “He said that we were meant to be together/ Now I’m thinking I could do a whole lot better.” The bride- to-be runs out, kicks off her shoes, dances on the cool concrete with cold feet, and hops into the awaiting limo by herself.  The song ends with her declaration: “And I’m keeping the ring.” It’s a fun and rocking number.
Next is “Honey Darlin’ Baby Please,” co-written with bandmate Tony Wittrock. The melodic tune features some pretty and poignant lyrics plus soulful playing on her guitar.  It’s got a bit of a country twang along with Donna’s soulful approach; it’s a winner!
Next she recreates Skip James’ haunting “Cypress Grove Blues.”  Donna’s resonator and slide guitar offer some cool licks to savor as she sings with passion.
“Backseat Driver” is a cut that came from some discussions between Herula and her bandmates on a road trip. It’s humorous and it jumps and jives. There’s a cool groove, some fun harp, and, of course, great slide guitar. “What You Gonna Do?” is a song where Donna confronts her man about another woman.  She demands he pick her or the other woman in this direct and confrontational song. The guitar is pretty, the sax is soulful and the sound is quite emotional.
“Wish I Could See You Again” is an acoustic duet with Donna and guitarist Jon Shain, who also produced the album.  It’s a beautiful memory of her late mother, with touching lyrics and an emotive vocal delivery. The gospel infused “Things Can Change” offers a positive message, great vocals, and outstanding harp by John Jochem, along with Herula’s super electric guitar work.
Herula states that “Float To Heaven” is her storytelling in John Prine fashion and she pulls it off as she always does. Anne Harris’ violin is superb while Donna’s finger picking is just sublime. She closes with the classic “Dust My Broom” with a flaming electric slide guitar cut with forthright vocals– so cool and well done as she attacks the guitar with passion.
This is Herula at her best. She does not sit on her laurels and delivers eight great new cuts and two outstanding covers. It’s been a few years but the wait was worth it– go get this new album. You will not regret it as it’s one of the top roots blues albums I’ve heard this year!

Jovin Webb, with the aid of some of the finest musicians and music minds available, has baked up a delicious recording with his Son Of A Sinner album release. Born and raised in the Baton Rouge, Louisiana, area, Webb was turned on to blues music by listening to his dad’s blues record collection. He was also influenced as a youngster by the gospel music of his church, where he played drums.
As he got older, he played blues and soul music all around the Gulf Coast area. In addition to being a soulful vocalist and drummer, Webb also plays guitar, piano, and harmonica and is a songwriter. He first gained major recognition as a contestant on American Idol in 2020. Jovin Webb then recorded his first album, Drifter, in 2024, and it received strong critical acclaim.
Son Of A Sinner comes out smoking with “Gunpowder And Lead” as Jovin Webb belts out, “Take a pocket full of money, start waving it around; in a downtown juke joint, there’ll be violence going down. You better back up brother, before you wind up dead. You’re playing around with fire, mixing gunpowder and lead.” Can’t you just picture that scene in your mind?
Let me just say it right now and get it out of the way. These musicians are “aces,” some of the best in the music business, and they’re showing out all through this album. So please allow me to give them a shout-out. You have Kenny Greenberg (guitar), Tom Hambridge (drums and background vocals), Tommy Macdonald (bass), and Mike Rojas (piano/keyboards). These are some of the best that exist, and Jovin Webb’s bluesy, soulful vocal contributions just make this album a really special piece.
Track two of Son Of A Sinner is “Pray For Me,” and it sounds like a very personal piece from Webb. It’s a slow, emotional tune where he sings, “I been a liar, a backslider. I been indulging in my desires.” I really love the guitar work in this one. “So I prayed, down on my knees; asking the Lord to forgive me please.”
Webb continues with pleading vocals: “Pray for me, pray for me, Lord. I need somebody to pray for me.” A tasty Kenny Greenberg guitar solo follows before Webb returns, singing, “Lord I know what you want me to be, but the devil won’t set me free.” The song ends with the line, “I’m just the son of a sinner. Pray for me.” This is one of those tunes that you will not soon forget, and it’s going to roll around in your head long after the music ends.
“After The Rain” is a slow, pretty ballad about a broken relationship. Even though Jovin Webb can belt out heavy, fast-paced tunes, this one demonstrates that he has a softer side. It really is a great selection that appears in exactly the right spot on this album.
He sings, “No more arguing; no more talking on the phone. No more crying; you blame me even if you’re wrong.” I’m loving the fills, great lead break, and outro played by Kenny Greenberg in this one. “I hear the distance in I love you.” Almost every one of us has had to recover from a broken relationship, and Webb is singing about it here in a language that we can all understand. “Our love is gone with the rain. But after the rain, the sun will come shining in to wash away the pain.”
The ninth track of Son Of A Sinner is “It’s Alright,” and it’s a soulful, dance-if-you-want-to song. “Sometimes I get down and I lay awake in bed at night; thinking about my problems and holding that whiskey bottle tight. I had to remind myself I’m only human, but I’m strong enough to fight. And it’s alright, it’s alright to have the blues.”
It sure is alright to have this kind of blues, and Jovin Webb sounds right at home and in the groove singing this one. There’s more great guitar and some sweet keyboard work in this one as well.
I would also like to mention that Son Of A Sinner features two masterfully performed cover songs. Jovin Webb and the band tackle Delbert McClinton’s “Every Time I Roll The Dice” and The Allman Brothers’ “Whipping Post.” I’ll just say, take a listen; they are both great.
Jovin Webb possesses a great voice, selects great songs, and surrounds himself with great musicians. I believe that he is only witnessing the early stages of what will become a long and successful career.
Lionel Richie has said this about Webb: “This is what barbecue sauce sounds like.” BET said, “Jovin Webb is bringing the blues to a new generation.” Webb says of himself, “I’m just a son of a sinner figuring it out.” Aren’t we all?

The Fins was a short-lived '80s group that consisted of Dave Chisholm, Bruce Morrison, Elio Martelli, George Capone, Chris Meister, and Matt Steffich. Miami born Kat Riggins is on a mission to revive interest in the blues. Her energetic sound and soulful vocals cross the lines between R&B, soul, gospel and good old-fashioned rock & roll. Her band name Blues Revival clearly lays out that intent. Kat’s vocals have been compared to Koko Tyalor & Tina Turner. The album title also gives an indication of her direction. Most people are dealing with the everyday stress of daily life. To many, Saturday comes as a day of relief to kick back and relax or to get out and party and enjoy some time with friends. Here she is encouraging all of us to slow down and enjoy life like Everyday is a Saturday. The album consists of ten original songs written by Kat and Tim Mulberry. Kat provides all of the lead vocals. Erik Guess plays guitar and Tim, who also produced the album, plays all the other instruments on the album and provides backing vocals. Shaelyn Mulberry also provides additional backing vocals.
The album opens with “Heads Are Gonna Roll” if anybody mess with my baby” in a solid piece of rock with Erik kicking things off with some great guitar rolls. On “Do My Thang” she excitedly exclaims “I can’t stop my feet and my hips ain’t too far behind, when they start acting up, don’t pay me no mind. Cuz, I am in my groove. I can’t help but move, excuse me while I do my thang.” Her energy is catching and will certainly bring a smile and a terrific urge to also move along with her groove. On “I Say So” she continues to keep things jumping and identifies that there is “nobody like me, ain’t nobody else. I’m a God made bonafide one of a kind, if I do say so myself.”
” Ain’t Going Down” slows things down she says she “won’t be shook, cuz, I know worrying don’t do me no good. It’ll be a knock down drag-out fight to the end. I won’t let them devils do me in. I ain’t going down easy, in fact, I ain’t goin’ down at all. ” Tears Like Gasoline” questions those who would commit violence as she cries “You’re still squeezing the trigger, smoke’s still coming out of that gun. You’re looking around like “Who did it?” She introduces a gospel touch on “Holy Water” as she pleads “God knows what my eyes have seen, cleanse my spirit, wash my soul. Make me fearless, make me bold.” Erik’s slide guitar tears through the song.
On “Fear Slayer” she identifies “My dreams are bigger than my fears.” “I’ve got time, I ‘ve got dreams I can make come true.” She invites us to party on “Til the Lights Come On” and says, “let me see you put the boogie in the woogie, now put the hip in the shake, put the rock in the roll and don’t chu hesitate. We’ll be dancing to every song.” We’ll be dancing till the party ends.”  She identifies “It feels like a dog-eat-dog world” on “Hunger Games”. “One man hungers for love. The other man craves some peace. Another man just wants cash to satisfy his greed.” She ends with a passionate croon and a prayer to “Live in Peace”. She asks “How powerful is a word? Can it lift you up? How powerful is a prayer when it’s prayed with love?” “Well, I’m speaking and praying and singing that you live in peace.”
Kat moves from partying to thought-provoking and encouraging with the rational interchange of ideas without conflict or fear. Dreams are real and should be pursued without the threat of violence. Everyday should be a celebration of life like Saturday. Her vocals prove an unrelenting power for joy and a snapshot of the world today.

Carvin Jones was born in Lufkin, Texas. At a very young age, he was seduced to the blues by listening to BB King records his grandfather constantly played in the house. At age 11, Carvin remembers "my grandmother bought me my first guitar because I would borrow other people´s and when they came back to get them, I´d bum out. She took me downtown and bought me a guitar. I´ll never forget that day." Carvin recalls "my part of town was a rough neighborhood with a capital ´R´.  I saw people litterally get killed - shot, stabbed, whatever. The guitar kept me out of trouble because I was always
inside playing the guitar away from that."
For a few years after high school, Carvin was performing small gigs around Texas.  He decided to move to Arizona for a change of pace. In 1989, he moved in with his aunt and uncle, The Rev. Henry Adams and his wife Mattie, in their home in south Phoenix. “They took me in and I owe all my success to them.  If it
weren´t for them, there wouldn´t be any Carvin Jones” he says.
Thus, the first incarnation of the "Carvin Jones Band" was formed, and he began taking gigs anywhere they could get bookings. ”We´d go in and play for hamburgers and soda pop” Carvin laughs.
By March, 1991, the Band had gained tremendous popularity, and were playing at clubs all over the Valley. They have maintained a consistent seven nights-a-week performance schedule since then.  In March 2000, Carvin celebrated his 3000th performance!
Over the past years, the Carvin Jones Band has opened for guitar legends BB King, Santana and Albert King, and has performed with Joe Cocker and the Fabulous Thunderbird's at the House of Blues 1996 Tour in Phoenix. The Band opened for REO Speedwagon in 1998 at New Year's Eve, and has been a feature band of Fiesta Bowl's New Year's Eve Block Parties for the past two years.
The Carvin Jones Music Show, a 1/2 hour cable TV show promo, included interviews with Carvin, performance clips, local gig calendar, and website plug. The Show aired during February-March, 2000, once a week, on various local Arizona cable channels. The Band has also been featured on Arizona's  Channel 3, Channel 15, and Channel 10 News stations and is still featured on Glendale's Channel 11 regularly. Carvin has been a staple of the Glendale, AZ Jazz and Blues fest for several years - much to Arizonans delight!
Carvin began touring Europe in 1999. He has performed with the likes of Buddy Miles, Jeff Beck, Gary Moore, John Mayell, Jimmie Vaughn, Ten Years After, Eric Burden and The Animals. In 2007, Carvin and his band opened for the legendary Walter Trout - twice - with rave revews! He has made many appearances on European Television and has regular airplay on several Blues dedicated radio shows throughout Europe. Carvin regularly headlines many European Blues Festivals - including The Pokey Hole Festival (UK), Skegness Rock & Blues Festival (UK), The Warrenpoint Festival (Ireland), Bejar Blues Festival (Spain), Colne Blues Festival (UK), and several others throughout Italy, Spain, Germany, & Holland.
In 2007, Carvin welcomed into the band two amazing Italian musicians, who tour with Carvin full-time throughout Europe. On drums, Gianpaolo Feola - from Sant' Angelo d'Alife, Italy - has brought tremendous energy and excitement to Carvin's all ready electrifying show. Gianpaolo has played with many popular Italian bands throughout Italy and complements Carvin's versitility with his ability to play many types of music... from classic slow Blues & Jazz to classic Rock and Pop. Michele (Mike) Califano - from Naples, Italy - is a self-taught, natural talent. He began playing bass in December 1996 - watching and learning from 'Queen' concerts on DVD - loving the big sound of the bass. Among Mike's influences are Tommy Shannon, John Deacon, John Paul Jones, Paul McCartney, & Geddy Lee. Like Gianpaolo, Mike brings an amazing amount of energy and versitility to the Carvin Jones experience. Together, Carvin, Mike, and Gianpaolo have been heralded the "Best Blues/Rock Band in Europe".

Bluesgroup from Norway.Mulen's Portland Combo is a loosely composed blues and soul band with drummer and leader Rolf "Mulen" Karlsen as the only permanent member.Since 1981, over 100 musicians have visited the band and there have been five records. This edition features a handful of secret guest artists! Mulens Portland Combo is a band that first saw the light of day somewhere in Slemmestad over 45 years ago. Back then, it consisted of just one man: amateur musician Rolf Karlsen.
Slemmestad might not sound like the center of the universe, but the fact is that Mulens Portland Combo comprises some of the country's finest musicians. Since their 1993 debut with *Blå Stikke*, the band has maintained a core lineup of six members, while constantly bringing in various guest artists to feature on their releases. You could almost call it a blues collective.After all, blues and R&B are what it’s all about. (Note: R&B rooted in the R&B of the 60s, not modern British pop à la Craig David! – Ed.) Vidar Busk, one of the band's regular guest artists in recent years, describes this album as "Hippie R&B and Soul"—and yes, that’s a fair assessment. Funky, driving tracks dominate the record, and with equally impressive vocal performances, the music is pure velvet for the ears.

The NEW “Mississippi Shakedown” Album is called “The Cost of Living is Killing Me”.  Now that’s something you don’t hear every day, a “Misipi” song with a social comment.
We’ve documented the dreaded “Cost of Living” dramas - wolves knocking at the door - any money that I had has all been spent - the good news is bad, the bad news is worse – you get the idea. 
The odd thing tho, is that “The Cost of Living” hasn’t really affected “Mississippi Shakedown”, hell we’re Muso’s, we’ve ALWAYS been broke, so it was just more of the same with us, as they say “you can’t go back when your backs up against the wall”…!!!
The other “Misipi” songs on the new Album, “The Cost of Living is Killing Me”, tend to be about Drinkin (in a good way), Money (in a bad way), Death (in a funny way) all played to a “drivin down the highway in a Thelma and Louise kinda fashion”, all boogie with a dirty sounding slide guitar, with no tears or sobs, just the occasional snarl.
It’s all “top down on the convertible and hair blowing in the wind, if you’ve got any”… hair that is, not wind.
“The Cost of Living” is a saying that has been heard endlessly, it’s in the lexicon, it’s in the zeitgeist, it’s in your ear and now (released July 18, 2026).

Recorded on January 31, 2026, at the renowned Blues Garage in Isernhagen, Germany, the set captures an extraordinary evening filled with energy, musicianship and the spirit that has defined the Blues Caravan for two decades.
Since its inception, the Blues Caravan has helped numerous artists take the next step in their careers. Former participants such as Ana Popovic, Samantha Fish, Aynsley Lister and Joanne Shaw Taylor have gone on to become some of the most celebrated names in contemporary blues.
The 2026 anniversary edition brings together three outstanding artists representing different facets of today's blues scene. Completing the line-up was French newcomer Elise Frank, who has already made a name for herself on prestigious European festival stages with her band FRANK and who adds fresh energy and a distinctive European touch to the line-up.
True to the Blues Caravan tradition, the evening opens with a joint performance by all three artists, followed by individual sets before the musicians reunite for the show's grand finale. December doesn’t always make for the most exciting of months musically, but here is a treat to buck the trend. Digital-only release Nothin’ But The Blues gives us a selection of twelve tracks from the back-catalog of veteran blues guitarist and vocalist Roy Roberts, hand-picked by the man himself, and this is a man with a past worth recounting. You can’t ask for a better introduction to blues/R&B than Jimmy Reed and Jerry Butler. These two artists, via radio and, in the latter case, a chance live show, captured the ear and the soul of a young Roy Roberts. It was the great Solomon Burke, though, who first recognized the full potential of the Tennessee native, after Roberts backed him during a local gig (in those days stars would often utilize pick-up bands on tour). Roberts enjoyed subsequent live circuits with the likes of (then) “Little” Stevie Wonder, Eddie Floyd and the great Otis Redding, fronting his own Roy Roberts Experience band. During the 70s and 80s, when shallower genres dominated the charts, Roberts turned, as many did, to the reliable country and gospel markets, touring with O. B. McClinton and setting up his own studio, before a sonic encounter with Robert Cray, in the early nineties, turned him back to his roots.
“I Got A Gypsy Woman” kicks things off; a smooth, sharp blues-rocker with sparkling guitar riffs, vamping organ and pumping horns. Roberts’ voice is silky and perfectly pitched, with a nice amount of grit. This is first-class stuff, striding and swaying though its brief run-time. “Dirty Old Man Blues,” featuring Muddy Waters’ sideman, slide-guitarist Bob Margolin and Skeeter Brandon on Hammond Organ, is a delightful, sly and sardonic easy-roller, full of good humor and even better riffs. “I’m A Real Blues Man” is the perfect statement for Roberts, whose laid-back delivery is highly appealing. Jangling piano and a shuffling beat drive this jump-blues number.
Throughout Nothin’ But The Blues, the production is crisp and clear, arrangements are compelling and the playing so full of exuberance that it will have the most reluctant of heads nodding and the heaviest of feet tapping.
“Your Troubling Mind Blues” slows things down to a slow burn, with beautifully balanced ensemble playing. Roberts’ guitar, which never overpowers the mix, is as deep and soulful as they come. “What Should I Do Blues” is striding, horn-fueled power, with a delightful contrast between bursts of all-out fire and sparse, spacey vibes. “There’s only one thing left for me to do,” sings Roberts, rather poignantly, “and that’s for me to play the blues.” “Have You Seen My Baby Blues” brings us over the finish-line at a gallop, a rollicking, highly enjoyable slice of blues-rock fun.

Marla BB puts herself out there as a belter, but I tend to prefer the fragility in her voice on the quieter stuff like "Sugar in My Bowl" and the lengthy "Stand by Me" over the more obvious faster numbers on this live-in-New-York recording. (Ascending Productions).
Marla BB has studied the voice & body for 30 years now. She is an internationally touring blues based singer, a nationally recognized teacher, and martial artist.
Marla started her career chanting in synagogue at the age of 12, began formal classical voice training with a professor from Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia at 13, and by 18, Marla moved onto jazz training with a renowned teacher from Berklee College of Music in Boston. Concurrently, Marla was enrolled as an acting major at Emerson College, graduating at the age of 21 with a BFA in Dramatic Arts & already 2 years of professional experience with Boston's experimental theatre troupe, Reality Theater (later turned Theatre Works).
Over the next 10 years, Ms. BB taught improvisational theatre, music & movement to all types of people from pre-school to seniors, special needs to "normal" in schools, camps, community centers, environmental education organizations, even on boats! She also trained in the Alexander Technique as a complement to her extensive use of the voice & body, thus breath. During this time, Marla auditioned & formed her first band beginning her professional singing career.
The 80's were spent teaching & performing regionally in the Northeast. Come the 90's Marla BB went national with her music, touring the country full time. When she wasn't on the road, Marla began intensive training in Martial Arts.
Now in the 2000 millennium, Ms. BB teaches Martial Arts, Self-Defense, Violence Prevention & Empowerment at home, while continuing to perform internationally with her explosive Blues Based Singing career.

Ah, this takes us (or rather, me) back to the days of the Crypto label, founded by Ange and their manager, Jean-Claude Pognant, in the late 70s. Yes, Ganafoul belongs to that era!
There’s frenetic boogie-blues ("Nothing More"), a touch of funk with a bass solo ("I'm a King Bee," from the Stones' debut LP), and a hint of Ganafoul-style nostalgia with "Full Speed ​​Ahead" and "Saturday Night." Special mention goes to "Crossroads," a tribute to Robert Johnson... and Cream.

CROSSROADS (From Moonless Nights to Boogie)
Robert Johnson. On a moonless night in the 1930s, at a desolate crossroads somewhere between Highway 61 North and Highway 49 South, the genius from Hazlehurst reportedly struck a pact... "Crossroads Blues."
Givors, mid-seventies. At the intersection of the A7 and A42 motorways—in the industrial south of the Greater Lyon area—Jack Bon and Jean-Yves Astier, both from the Croix-Rousse district, saw their paths cross for the first time.
There, near the canal amidst the fumes of the steel industry, they locked horns and sold their souls to the boogie. *Boogie Chillen*.
"Sidérock"—that’s the name they gave to the sound of Ganafoul, a heavy rock outfit (a five-piece band at the time) born of their meeting with drummer Jean-Yves Rotacher.
In a France where the rock scene was waking up under the Giscard presidency—fired up by the furious marathons of Little Bob Story, ignited by Téléphone’s first Stones-esque scorcher, and finally hopping aboard the '77 train speeding in from London—Ganafoul and a handful of others boldly kept the blues-rock legend alive. Having evolved into a power trio shortly before Bernard Antoine took over the drum kit from Rotache, Ganafoul—standing in contrast to acts like Bijou or Starshooter—embodied a gritty, unkempt, "grease-stained" brand of rock.
The self-styled intelligentsia certainly never championed the trio. Undeterred, Ganaf' churned out "siderock" that thrilled denim-clad metalheads while devouring miles of French highway in their blue Citroën DS.
The band ran on an Australian-style 4/4 beat (Jack had been blown away by AC/DC at London’s Marquee Club in '76) while keeping Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, and the Stones in the rearview mirror.
Then came a moonless night; perhaps a botched overtake, a missed curve... no one knows for sure. With tires worn by seven years on the road and five albums in the trunk, the band crashed right at the dawn of the 80s.
The three boot-wearing buddies never truly parted ways. Their destinies, sealed by the canal, diverged for only a few years.
Jean-Yves settled near Cahors. He picked up the guitar and carved out his own style beneath a straw hat. Whether solo, in a trio, or with a full band (Jean-Yves Astier & Série Limitée), Astier made a name for himself. Between '86 and '92, he recorded three albums of original French-language songs—woven from country-blues threads and delivered in a smoky voice.
Anchored to his Croix-Rousse stomping grounds with his Stratocaster in hand, Jack kept the Ganafoul adventure alive for one final French-language album. He released a single with CBS, then moved on to a string of solo projects and an album, eventually shearing off his long mane one evening before the full moon. He quietly refined his bluesy guitar artistry (what had he traded for that gift?), polished his French lyrics, and blended his love for Moroccan music with the sounds of the Louisiana bayous. Bernard docks his rugged *T.V.* barge in Besançon. Ever insatiable, he never tires of thrashing his drums behind local bands.
1991. On a moonlit night, GANAFOUL unleashed their sonic rockets at Le Glob in Lyon. During that lightning-bolt gig, the three forty-something heroes realized that a voodoo pact had bound them together for life—right there, by the canal.
When they reunited in 1998 at Le Transbordeur (Lyon) to celebrate GANAFOUL’s 20th boogie-anniversary, the mojo-charged electricity was palpable—and so were the fans.
Captured live, this gritty, generous concert celebrates a convergence of destinies and a raucous reunion: three trailblazers reconnecting with their pact, their unwavering audience, their musical heirs, their past, and their future!
