Love Scars is an impressive debut from Bill Perry, a singer-songwriter that fuses '70s folk with blues. Perry occasionally can sound too earnest -- which could be expected from a former supporting musician for Richie Havens -- but there's genuine skill and craft in his songs. His lyrics are strong and melodies are sturdy, and they're delivered with conviction, which makes up for the occasional awkward moments that should be expected from a debut record. Still, those little missteps are nowhere near enough to prevent Love Scars from being a promising debut.
