The John Frick Band has evolved from years of performing the blues in different band formations. Originally we focused on playing a range of blues standards, but we felt drawn to writing and performing our own blues music. Although our brand of the blues cannot be described as traditional blues music, we remain undeniably a hot-blooded blues band.
In 2011 our debut album, "Boogie With The John Frick Blues Band", was released on iTunes and Spotify. It featured original songs in a range of blues styles, including a special Bo Diddley-style track, "She Ain't No Red Hot Lover", with West African musician, Serigne CM Gueye, on percussion and backing vocals.
By the time our next album, “Urban Crossroads”, was released in February 2014, we had officially taken on the name “John Frick Band”. Rockabilly guitarist, Roel Loen, who had helped us out on bass guitar had left the band and Rob Nagel, South African bassist with the legendary Blues Broers, helped out with bass and blues harp on the album. It also marked the start of our collaboration with producer Peter Struijk from Blueshine Records. By the time the album was released, Nico Hart had joined as our full-time bassist. Tom Moerenhout took care of the horn parts. After its release, the album received excellent reviews internationally.
Our next album, “K.02 Sessions”, was released in March 2015. Tom Moerenhout joined the line-up as a full-time member of the band. Our collaboration with Blueshine Records continued and the album featured additional guest performances by Rob Nagel, Peter Struijk and Debora Hulskamp.
The band performs on a regular basis at various blues venues and festivals. Highlights include The 2012 Table Mountain Blues Festival (South Africa), Zoetermeer Blues Festival, Loosduinen Blues Festival, Haagse Notuh Festival, Bluescafe L’Esprit, Apeldoorn Bluescafe, The Brussels Rhythm and Blues Club, Blues In Wijk and many more.
Today is release new album with John Frick, Michel de Man, Nico Hart, Michael Eschauzier, Aad van Pijlen (Cora), Nicko Christiansen, Harm Van Sleen and Rob Nagel.
