Musician, actor and dancer Earl Wilson came to Norway in 1965 from New York, USA and was hired as an actor and dancer by Det Norske Teatret in Oslo. Soon after Wilson met Arild Wickstrom at the legendary 60’s Jazz club, Club 7 and the duo decided to form an R&B band; Little Earl & the Sapphires. The Sapphires consisted of Tommy Merg and Nils Bjorness on guitars, Svein Hansen bass, Tom Karlsen drums, Wickstrom organ and a horn section. They went on to record three singles; Don’t Play That Song and Papa’s Got A Brand New Bag in 66 and I Can’t Belive It in 67. The band broke up in 1968 after which Wilson went on to form Club 7 Explosion later the same year. He released a solo album in 1970 entitled Live at the Studio and went on to write film scores and music for ballet.
