The Boogiemen were a five-piece blues band who played an energetic blend of traditional blues, rock-blues, R&B and rockabilly. What's interesting about his band is their low-key approach and apparent lack of a front person. There is no one lead that takes center stage all the time. If there is a lead instrument in the band, it would have to be the harp playing of Chuck Edwards who has a definite leaning toward the classic Chicago blues harp sound. The band combines elements of blues, rock, country, R&B, and rockabilly with a dash of Texas style boogie to create a cool blend of rockin' blues on their release on Blue Loon, "Scream 'n Howl'. "Scream 'n Howl' features 14 great songs that showcase howling harmonica, rocking guitar, some great boogie-woogie piano, a tight rhythm section that knows where the "pocket" is, and some fine vocal performances by both group members and the Holmes Brothers, who make a guest appearance on "Members Only".
While the Boogiemen's rocking style amy not always appeal to some hard-to-please blues purists, fans of the Fabulous Thunderbirds, early J. Geils Bans, the Red Devils, and other contemporary artists shoald become instant fans of the disc's energy and honesty.
