An early satellite member of the Allman Brothers Band, Miles later went on to back Clarence Carter but otherwise remained primarily a regional favorite until he finally made his headlining debut with the 1992 Ichiban release Crazy Man; Goin' Back to Daytona followed in 1994, and he also gained national exposure on tour as a member of the Gregg Allman and Friends group. The solo Mountain to Climb appeared in 1999.

 9. Play It Cool - 4:56
10. Privileged Life - 3:15
11. Confusion Illusion - 3:17
12. Secret - 4:14

It's the blues, Jim, but not as we immediately recognize it. Eddie Turner, who plays lead guitar with iconoclastic bluesman Otis Taylor, has an album that turns equally to rock and funk as it does to blues. And on "Sin," he simply turns in one of the most stunning pieces of gospel heard in years -- stripped-down, but with touches of hip-hop that offers a real way forward into the 21st century for the genre. "Confusion Illusion" is blues-funk -- quite a feat for a trio of guitar, bass, and drums (with some overdubbed keys), while "Gangster of Love" takes Johnny "Guitar" Watson's tune out for a Saturday night party. The thing is, Turner is equally adept wherever he turns his hand, whether it's the dark atmospherics of "Secret" or his remarkable cover of "The Wind Cries Mary," which completely re-imagines the song, even as Turner does a nigh-on perfect Hendrix vocal impersonation. With this disc (and thanks to impressive production from bandmate Kenny Passarelli and some incredible drumwork from Mark Clark) Turner makes a very agile leap from sideman to exceptional frontman (http://www.northernblues.com/review_rise.html).

15. You Don't Know What Love Is (King Edward) - 4:05

Nolan Struck’s upper-register moan is one of the eeriest and most riveting sounds in contemporary soul blues: it stunned a beer-soaked crowd into silence at the 1993 Chicago Blues Festival, but it gets just the opposite reaction from the women at the chitlin’-circuit clubs he usually plays. Born Nolton Antoine in Duson, Louisiana, in 1940, Struck started out as a professional dancer. His flamboyant stagecraft caught the eye of Lonnie Brooks, who taught him to play bass and put him in his band. After Brooks brought the group to Chicago in 1959, Struck went out on his own, playing with artists like Tyrone Davis and Denise LaSalle and on sessions for the One-derful! label. He began to record as a vocalist (initially as “Little Nolan”) in the late 60s; early-70s sides on ICT showcased his blend of aching vulnerability and erotic heat, and as recently as 1994 his gasping, pleading “How Do You Want Your Thrill,” by Chicago-based songwriter Bob Jones, saw some action on soul-blues radio playlists in the south and midwest. Struck’s most recent disc, 2000’s Rollin’ With Nolan (Top Star), is hampered by thin production, but there’s plenty of room for his voice to work its magic: it ranges from a silken croon (“Bad Habits”) to a wail of stark desperation (“Lean on Me”), his lugubrious ascents and milky slurred warbles often overwhelming the lyrics entirely and dissolving into pure sound. On the jazz-tinged “Willie Mae” he carries the voice-as-instrument idea further, his hornlike phrasing and intonation offering a tantalizing glimpse of what he might accomplish were he to explore this direction more fully. Bobby Rush headlines this show, which also features vocalists U.V. Hayes, Bobby “Slim” James, and Johnny Laws. Saturday, August 16, 9 PM, Gilbert Hall, 99th and Throop; 773-846-6471.

A guitar player since his teens, Mark played in various Belgian bands in the 80s. He left Belgium to establish himself in Dallas, Texas (USA), where he played with bands. They played shows with Warrant and George Lynch. While abroad he completed the recording program of The Conservatory of Recording Arts & Science in Phoenix, Arizona in 1999. He released a self made album of classical guitar the following year. After a couple of years in the US he came back to Belgium and released an instrumental album in 2008 called "Out Of The Blue".
2010 saw the birth of a more aggressive rock album called ”Healer Of God" mixed by Andy LaRoque in Sweden. In 2012 Mark formed blues band “Dimes & Nickels” this time as lead singer and guitarist. The band released an EP in 2014 and played all over the country. In 2015 movie Producer P. Glotz asked him to write the soundtrack for the movie “Belgian Disaster”. A video clip was released for the song “No For An Answer”. In 2016 Mark joined cover band “The Broadcasters” and played many shows in Belgium. In 2019 Mark finished recording a fourth album dedicated to his passion and love for the blues with the talented Myke Rock on bass and the groovy Thomas Beyaert on drums. Wild Card (2022) is his latest album.

Paul DeLay - deLay Does Chicago

Bitrate: 320K/s
Year: 2001
Time: 50:20
Size: 116,0 MB
Label: Evidence
Styles: Blues/Modern Electric Blues/Harmonica Blues
Art: Full

Tracks Listing:
 1. Beautiful Bones - 3:18
 2. Brave Woman - 4:55
 3. All Cried Out - 4:24
 4. Leave Me Alone - 6:24
 5. Come On Home - 4:02
 6. El Train - 5:08
 7. Wait - 4:06
 8. Ain't Foolin' Round - 2:30
 9. What's Coming Next - 5:13
10. Only Me - 3:39
11. Graet Big Kid - 4:03
12. Oak Street Beach - 2:33

After six albums of blues harmonica playing that defies all the rules, deLay comes to Chicago, hooks up with the Johnny Burgin band, and cuts a nice, relaxed record in the 1950s Chicago style. But that doesn't mean that deLay turned in a bunch of old Little Walter and Muddy Waters tunes from his record collection for this one. Instead, he wrote -- or co-wrote with various bandmembers -- every tune on here, with many of them ("Beautiful Bones," "Oak Street Beach," "All Cried Out") tipping their stylistic hat in the direction of Junior Wells and Buddy Guy's efforts on the classic Hoodoo Man Blues album. Zora Young guests on "Come on Home," and Jimmy Dawkins contributes some nasty, stinging guitar on "El Train" and "What's Coming Next." But as always, deLay's stratospheric explorations on his harp (especially his swinging work with the chromatic) are the big ticket, and tracks like "Brave Woman," the Elmore-styled "Wait," and "Only Me" provide plenty of harmonica fireworks. If this is a side project between albums with his regular working band, then the infusion of new blood and new surroundings combine to make this one of the most accessible albums of his career.

The debut album Fehler im System was released at the end of 1982, and the first single Major Tom stormed the top of the charts in Germany. Other countries followed. Even in the USA the song's English version stormed onto #14 of the Billboard Hot 100. It even cracked the #1 position in the US dance charts. This resulted in four gold records from Germany, Austria and Canada (single and album) as well as countless TV-appearances. While the second album 120 Grad (Things To Come) together with the single Terra Titanic could not keep up to the success of the first album, 1986 the team split and Armin went separate ways. As a studio musician for acts such as Hazel'O'Connor, Eric Burdon or Thomas D. Armin Sabol got booked for performances on several albums and singles of the German mega-act Die Fantastischen Vier. Armin also kept on working as a producer for bands like Rage, Sinner or Pyracanda. In addition to his participation in the German party band Lollies, known for their hit single Wahnsinn, Hölle, Hölle he has also produced a lot of instrumental production music for TV and advertising purposes. E.g. for productions such as the Oprah Winfrey Show, The Mentalist, Storage Wars, Auction Hunters or the Netflix series The Purge. But he can't let go of his old love: the electric guitar and his heart to the crashing blues rock. Thus, the desire became stronger and more concrete to make a musical statement in his late career. That is why Armin Sabol produced his album Back in Blue in 2021, which will be released in the spring 2022 on Yellow Muffin Records. The self-confessed biker was musically supported by Micha Kasper (drums), Horst Künzl (drums), Uwe Jesdinsky (bass), Wolfgang Terne (backing vocals),Wolfgang Thunderwolf Schorer (backing vocals) finalist at The German TV Show The Voice Senior and PUR drummer Frank Dapper on the John Lee Hooker cover Boom Boom.

 9. Gonna Bring It To You - 3:10
10. Leave Me Alone - 3:15

The Juke Jumpers went through numerous changes in its lineup, and its membership never stabilized for long periods. When the Fort Worth band was first established in 1977, it was comprised of guitarist Sumter Bruton, vocalist and bassist Jim Colgrove, drummer Mike Buck, and guitarist and vocalist Bud Johnson. The group landed a steady gig in the city as the New Bluebird Nite Club's house band, but not before Buck and Johnson dropped out. Mike Bartula stepped in to take over Buck's duties on drums. Johnson's departure prompted Colgrove to take over on guitar and drop the bass, which was taken over by newcomer Jack Newhouse. By 1978, Jim Milan stepped in as the group's bassist. That same year, the Juke Jumpers were ready to record Panther City Blues, the group's first release. The album was put out by Fort Worth's Flying High Records and featured Hungry Chuck's piano player, Jeff Gutcheon. The lineup shifted again the following year when former Double Trouble saxophonist Johnny Reno came aboard. He was present for the recording of the band's sophomore release, Border Radio, which was put out by Amazing Records, another label based in the band's hometown.
Before making their Amazing Records album The Joint's Jumpin'!, the Juke Jumpers expanded from a five-piece band to a six-man combo in 1980, with the addition of Craig Simecheck on piano. An extensive touring schedule followed, with the band traveling across Louisiana, the Midwest, and its home state of Texas. In 1994, the Varrick label put out the band's Jumper Cables album. The release featured Robert Harwell on saxophone. Harwell, who formerly worked with Delbert McClinton, stepped in when Reno opted out to form his own band. The group expanded its touring, but in the spring of 1985, the Juke Jumpers disbanded. The breakup didn't last long, however, and bandmembers got back together in 1986. Their first gig was at J & J's Blues Bar, which had just opened its doors. The nightspot welcomed the Juke Jumpers back consistently for seven more years.
Before recording a live album for Amazing Records late in 1987, the band grew with the addition of a second saxophonist, Rene Ozuna. That same year, the group was featured in the film A Tiger's Tale. Drummer Doyle Bramhall stepped in the following year when Bartula dropped out. Performances followed at Holland's Blues Estafette, and the Rhythm & Blues Festival in Belgium in 1989. Bassist Mike Judge took over for Milan the following year. The lineup, however, refused to stabilize. By 1991, Simecheck, Judge, and Bramhall had departed. Bartula came back to the group, which also added keyboardist Ruf Rufner and bassist Tom Reynolds. Three years later, the group disbanded. Reunion performances took place in Fort Worth in 1997, 1998, and 2001.

Jim Colgrove has been part of the music scenes of at least four major cities across as many decades, at least three of which would probably be worth writing a memoir about -- except that he's mostly been so busy making music that he's apparently never sat down to write about it. Colgrove was a friend of drummer N.D. Smart in Dayton, OH when the two took up with a pair of Boston folkies and ended up playing bass in the band that became Bo Grumpus, which got transplanted from Beantown to New York City. They were part of the late-'60s music scene in the city, and left behind one great album before a forced name-change made their future untenable. That happened just in time to help facilitate the formation of Mountain by their producer, Felix Pappalardi (incidentally, featuring the ubiquitous N.D. Smart...). He subsequently moved back to the folk scene, sort of, as part of Great Speckled Bird, and then to some gigs with Todd Rundgren. Later, it was back to roots rock with Sid King, and on to Fort Worth, TX and the Juke Jumpers, doing blues. And more recently his band Lost Country. He also has his own record label, Cool Groove.

Dan Beaver And His Dam Blues Band - Street Walk Boogie

 4. Who Do You Love (feat. Todd Cliborne) - 6:29

Dan Beaver was born in Michigan City, Indiana. At a young age, the curious Beaver rummaged through his father's chest to find his first harp. This got him in a lot of trouble, but allowed him to experiment with it. Then he became interested in the blues, the music of The Doors, Treat Her Right, and in general any group that has a harmonica. He delayed the release of the harmonica for a while until actor Bruce Willis played the harmonica in a commercial and inspired him. So, right after high school, Beaver decided to brush up on playing the harmonica, thinking it would be a fun hobby and a way to attract girls. In 1990, during a trip to an asthma doctor in Chicago, Beaver bought his first harmonica.
