Electric Blues Explosion is blues/rock band based in south Brazil by Rodrigo Campagnolo (or Rod, as best known in the UK). The band walks in the line of artist like Gary Moore, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Joe Bonamassa and many more Blues Rock axe men. The band worked hard on getting a name on the blues scene in south Brazil.Project headed by guitarist/singer/songwriter Rodrigo Campagnolo, formed in 2006. In the beginning the band covered tunes from classic blues and southern rock such as Eric Clapton, Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, B.B. King, Gary Moore, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Buddy Guy, as well as modern artist such as Joe Bonamassa, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Gov’t Mule, John Mayer, always with a strong approach.
Anyone who knows me knows how much I appreciate (and a lot) the work of original bands that venture into other sounds. Blues rock is an area little explored by new groups in Brazil and it is with the second of this that the gauchos of Electric Blues Explosion bring a masterpiece of heavy music. What can be said about this work is its consistency. We are presented with an album with a lot of hard and blues, with that nostalgic 70s sound, going a little psychedelic and also a little country. Which might make some unsuspecting listener think about the possibility of it sounding like a recycling of an old sound, the infamous “classic rock”. This is not how this work reflects the musicality and excellence of this work. I would venture to say that there is no foreign band today with such musicality and creativity. As a highlight we have the excellent “Just Fine”, even risking a bit of seventies prog, the swing of “Tell Me” and an excellent tribute to James Brown and “House of Beer”, which is a country song along the lines of Buffalo Springfield.
