What he played, reminds of the young Eric Clapton, when he was with John Mayall, 1970 german newspaper DIE WELT wrote about the 20 years old guitar player , Rainer Baumann. Then the guy made a splash with his introduction to FRUMPY, still one of the most important German bands ever. Now the doors stood wide open for the young guitar genius . International stars such as Champion Jack Dupree invited him into the studio, as well as german greats like Achim Reichel, Randy Pie and Jutta Weinhold. But his secret love was the blues - so in the late seventies he founded the RAINER BAUMANN BAND. Already in 1980 the band recorded the album Meet Me in the Bottom for Line Records in Hamburg, bursting with enthusiasm and ingenuity. (2002 Records re-released on CD by Sireena Records). As an opening act for Roger Chapman on his Germany tour in 1981 Rainer Baumann left such a good impression that Chappo entered the microphone while the recording seesions on the third album Adoring Jimmy Reed (Line Records). This album was Baumanns tribute to his great blues heroes like Albert King and Muddy Waters. Fooling Around was the last album by Rainer Baumann for Line Records, it was released in 1983 . Bluesrock, in a groovy way that sometimes reminds of the westcoast sound.Since 1982, Rainer Baumann, until his sudden death in 2007 had worked as a teacher in guitar, harmony and composition.
