Seth Walker--like a champion boxer-- swings hard, steps light and always connects. His consistently sensational live shows have made Seth Walker and his band one of the hottest, most in demand live acts in the southwest-- and word is spreading all over the country. Seth blends blues, swing, jump, roots ,and jazz together into his own heartfelt signature sound."A jumping, swinging quintet...tailor made for fancy footsteps but good enough to keep dancing challenged listeners happy." wrote Jim Beal of the San Antonio Express News. Seth agrees with this observation, noting, "When you see our band, you see a tight show--not a gimmick. There's a big distinction. Its honest. Its how I feel." Seth Walker defies the old assumption that it takes years of hard living to make a great blues player, and he astonishes audiences and critics alike, not only as a player, but also as an accomplished and gifted songwriter. It says a lot that his original songs are often mistaken for standards. James Nagel of Music News enthused," His delivery is with a style and ease usually associated with players twice his age. His songwriting abilities are top notch and arranged, as well as performed, at a level of understanding and savvy that would have made T-Bone himself smile." Seth Walker was born into music on September 2, 1972, in Burlington N.C. His mother and father taught both cello and violin under the Suzuki method. At five, Seth was playing the violin, and at six he was proficient on the cello, which he continued to play for the next ten years. It wasn't until he attended East Carolina University that Seth encountered the guitar." this guy in my dorm had a guitar and I started messing around with it," he recalls. "As soon as I picked up that guitar I just felt--well--, it was comfortable to me. It fit. Next thing you know I took the money I was supposed to spend on books and bought a guitar." It was an epiphany, and Seth's true education began. Seth landed a late-night job as a blues Dj at his college radio station. Not long after, his uncle, a bass player from Jacksonville, Florida, started mailing him tapes of blues masters. He immersed himself in the music, and Seth's well trained ears started to understand all he heard. Hearing his calling in the blues, he dropped out of college and moved to Florida, eagerly learning from all who could teach him and ultimately forming his own band Soul Food. In 1995, Seth moved to Austin, Texas, drawn by the pool of talent and its reputation as a great live music mecca. Hungry for knowledge, Seth picked up gigs as he could, honing his chops and leaving admirers in his wake. He assembled a core group with bass, drums, piano, and sax, and the Seth Walker Band was soon playing to crowded houses all around town. One night at the Speakeasy, blues legend W.C Clark walked in to check out the new kid in town--and promptly started singing his praises, saying,"Seth's from the long line of great guitar players and singers. A tasteful player and a warrior in the field." Seth' s 1997 debut CD,When It Rains It Pours, was released to critical acclaim, and is now in its second pressing. Cut live in one day with a veritable who's, who of hot players,When It Rains It Pours crackles with heartfelt energy. The Austin Chronicle awarded it three stars, adding,"now pull on your dancing shoes!" The CD's producer, Mark "Kaz"Kazanoff says, "His innovative song writing style is a refreshing new sound, yet reflects his interest in the true American sound--rhythm and blues, jump and swing." Whether he's heard live in concert or on CD, Seth Walker knocks out all who hear him.
