JJ Blues Band was formed in Horsens in 1983 and the original crew spoke Søren Jensen on drums, Michael Pedersen on bass, Knud Gram and Jan Markfoged on guitars and Jens Juel (JJ), song and mouth harp. About 1985, Markfoged was replaced by Henning Olesen and with this crew, JJ Blues Band played many jobs - primarily in the local area, but also in some of the outdoor venues and in addition to the first Djurs Bluesland festival in 1988. JJBB made great emphasis on playing "the real thing" right from the start, and the inspiration and songs originated exclusively from black artists such as Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, James Cotton and others. In 1989, the original JJBB was solved and was immediately restored as "JJ & The Real Thing"
