Mudlow have been making trouble and music for over twenty years, playing stages as far-flung as Minnesota’s Deep Blues festival, Belgium’s Muddy Roots festival and Dorset’s Dark Holler festival. Their good fortune has led them to play alongside household names such as T Model Ford, Cedric Burnside, Seasick Steve, Scott H. Biram, The Detroit Cobras, The Jim Jones Review, Daddy Longlegs, The Bonnevilles and Alabama 3. Now it is time for Mudlow to be a household name. Dangerous and unashamedly funky, Mudlow’s world is populated with characters full of lament and thoroughly committed to their mistakes. Tobias Tester (Guitar/Vocals), Matt Latcham (Drums, Percussion) and Paul Pascoe (Bass/ Producer) soundtrack these fables of misfortune with their distinctly scuzzy take on the blues. Prepare to enter their world as Mudlow take you Lower Than Mud…

From the long arm of the law to the outstretched arms of blues and rock, Ron Addison personifies rhythm and blues with his soulful and rocking lead singing. After a career in the military as a helicopter pilot and a second career as a Virginia State Trooper Addison returned to his first love, music. Growing up on country music, as a teenager he also started loving the blues and rock and roll. Ron played and sang while in the military and then, when he was in the State Police, had a trio with his brothers. The music became full time after he retired and is truly a labor of love. His music is tight and loose in all the right places, and shows a precision and maturity some artists take a lifetime of recording to achieve. "Ride On" (2022), the title of Ron Addison's new album, couldn't be more apt; it's a deeply personal testament to perseverance on a myriad of fronts. Written and recorded in the wake of the passing of his wife of 44 years, the record's 12 tracks not only celebrate and tell the story of a life together, they work through the grief and ultimately offer strength and hope.

Soon he was invited to join The Five Blind Boys of Mississippi and toured the country with them, playing all the premier venues on their circuit.Isaac moved to Seattle in the mid seventies and took the town by storm. He was hired by Tom McFarland in 1974 and soon met and became close friends with Albert Collins. Isaac and Albert played some legendary shows in Seattle and Portland in the late '70's. Collins was instrumental in getting Isaac his first record deal with Red Lightin' Records. Isaac made a strong impression at the San Francisco Blues Festival in 1978 with his own band and released “Live At The Roadhouse” in the mid '80's. His first studio release, “Big Time Blues Man”, recorded in the '80's, received a favorable review in Downbeat Magazine and featured a remarkable version of The Beattle's Help. Isaac became known as “The King of Seattle Blues”, playing all over the Pacific Northwest for over 25 years. Isaac always had a large fan base at his performances and it didn't take long for newcomers to realize that they were witnessing something special. He could grab 'em and he could keep 'em. 12. A Plea for the Planet - 5:44

Some Light is the latest Mungo Jerry album, and it is packed with a dozen life-affirming songs. It is a tour-de-force, triumphant celebration of life. Overall, it is so good that it seems to contain much, much more than the dozen brilliantly crafted songs therein. You could even call it a concept album, if that’s not too cheesy a thing to say. It is arguably the best MJ album ever released.Ray Dorset and Mungo Jerry are two sides of the same gold sovereign.Music moves elementally through Ray Dorset, and it is hard to say who is in control on this album. The musician Ray Dorset? Or the Mungo Jerry Muse that has driven this irrepressible force of nature to produce his music for more than six decades. This hypnotising album is a musical gem.  Ray’s band grooves in harmonious sync, amid a framework of the highest production values. Some Light was conceived, composed and recorded during the darkest days of the 2020/21 Pandemic and light itself is the energy that shines through this astonishing output.
Ray squared up to the modern plague by producing this truly classic Mungo Jerry collection. Some Light is his plea to humanity to stop destroying the planet and going against Nature, a cause he has been crusading since the late 1960s.But have we left it too late? Some Light poses that question in a beautifully crafted way. The title tips a wink at the inclusion of uniquely ‘light’ Mungo Jerry songs. They defiantly and cheerfully proclaim the endurance of the human spirit in these strange times(https://www.mungojerryworld.com/somelight/).

11. Where Would I Be - 4:52
12. Must Be the Music - 3:11
13. Here I Come Again (reprise) - 4:52

For sheer vocal command nobody can beat Sam McClain's red-clay roar. He's riveting, whether slowly chewing the syllables of the country-flavored soul ballad "Learn How to Love You Again" or bending words of devotion into breathy melismatic arches on "Here I Come Again," one of the many songs here that allude to McClain's deep spiritual convictions. Like all the songs on his six 1990s CDs, these are his diary pages. They refer to his childhood escape from an abusive home, his days on skid row, and the comeback that has put him at the apex of the traditional soul-blues world, second only to his idol, Bobby "Blue" Bland. McClain even revisits Patsy Cline's "Sweet Dreams," which he first made an R&B hit in 1966. Unlike the big, exuberant, horns 'n' rhythm sound of Aretha-era Muscle Shoals soul that typifies the rest of this album, his "Dreams" sticks to a spare piano and guitar framework, providing McClain the space to dig so far into his heart we can hear it beating within the tearful shake of his voice. It's high drama--proof that after nearly a half century of struggle, this mighty singer is living his own sweet dreams. --Ted Drozdowski

Jose Ramirez - Here I Come

Bitrate: 320K/s
Year: 2020
Time: 54:47
Size: 126,2 MB
Label: Self Released
Styles: Blues Rock
Art: Front

Tracks Listing:
 1. Here I Come - 4:46
 2. I Miss You Baby - 4:40
 3. Gasoline And Matches - 3:33
 4. One Woman Man - 5:19
 5. Goodbye Letter - 7:39
 6. The Way You Make Me Feel - 5:58
 7. Three Years - 4:17
 8. As You Can See - 5:19
 9. Waiting For Your Call - 5:27
10. Traveling Riverside Blues - 4:10
11. Stop Teasing Me - 3:34

Deftly mixing youthful passion and mature composure, Jose Ramirez leads an all-star band through self-penned blues numbers on his debut, Here I Come. As winner of the 2nd Place Band at The 2020 International Blues Challenge, the expectations are high and they are mostly met. Stellar technique, a deep understanding of music, and interesting, original compositions create a foundation from which Ramirez musically elaborates, but the facets that separate the album from the rest of the crowd are its nuance and timelessness. Ramirez picks quality over quantity, and this simple choice helps to create a classic feel that never sounds stale. The supporting cast, featuring Jim Pugh (keys), Wes Starr (Drums), and Nate Rowe (bass), mesh seamlessly with their leader, both in style and mindset. Ramirez maximizes their abilities by simply giving them space in which to operate. He doesn’t monopolize the mix, which makes his voice and guitar that much more resonant when it becomes the focus. Sticking to character, his voice is rich and breathy as opposed to brassy and overpowering. He plays guitar with fiery precision, but he can quickly slide into languid, soulful passages as well. Notes are considered and conserved. For a relatively young musician, Ramirez already knows how less can be more. “Here I Come” bursts open with Pugh’s jangly piano and a sharp stab of guitar. The band creates a warm, full-bodied sound while Ramirez and Pugh trade fills and instrumental breaks in a manner that is revisited throughout the album. The Texas Horns immediately make their presence felt on the slower, soulful “I Miss You Baby.” The rhythm section of Starr and Rowe adopts the spartan approach of Ramirez, which allows his vocals to shine, and a tinge of reverb on the guitar solo shifts the coloring just a bit without being distracting. Pugh’s haunting, staccato piano fits perfectly with Ramirez’s cautionary message of “One Woman Man.” The bass and keys propel the song forward and work well against the vocal/guitar call and response that punctuate the verses. With varying speed and intensity, the jazzy outro by Pugh makes this an interesting song and one of the album’s best. “Goodbye Letter” is the mirrored opposite of “One Woman Man” in terms of subject matter, and Ramirez shows he can also play an excellent supporting role as Pugh takes the instrumental lead. “Three Years” might be the best track of the set. Its tone is thick and heavy, and both the organ and guitar solos are album highlights.  The treatment of Robert Johnson’s “Traveling Riverside Blues” stays true to the ethos of Here I Come with its stripped down approach. Where most covers of this classic opt for“faster, Ramirez chooses slower. Piercing guitar fills and an ending segment that differs greatly from the song’s body make this imaginative track a great example of Ramirez’s creativity. Here I Come doesn’t reinvent the genre or rupture any eardrums. Its greatness lies in its high-quality writing, playing, and that the individual tracks, and the album as a whole, can be relistened to with different foci, resulting in a different listening experience. Attention can be narrowed to Ramirez on one listen, the rhythm tandem on another, and even The Texas Horns on another still. The set gets better with each listen as the nuanced playing becomes more and more apparent and enjoyable. Jose Ramirez arrives highly-touted and with high praise. His first album does not disappoint.

Rosedale Junction - The Last Rodeo

 3. Loan Me A Dime - 11:14
 4. Hard Road Blues -  5:46
 5. Little Long Haired Angel -  5:11
 6. Rhythm In The Sky -  6:49
 7. Goin' Down To Walpole -  7:34
 8. The Last Rodeo - 10:47
 9. Rhythm In The Sky -  6:45

The great thing about music is that talent doesn’t care if you come to it early in life or late in life. Howlin’ Wolf was in his 40’s when he really broke through. So was Wes Montgomery and Sharron Jones and many others. Boston based Rosedale Junction is led by guitarist songwriter Toby Soriero, a long time professional player with a day job in “corporate America.” In 2020 Soriero ditched the day job and the next year released the hard charging Junction debut Stompin’ On the Front Porch. Follow up The Last Rodeo retains Stompin’s collaborative spirit, including 4 different singers. However, where Stompin’ was a pretty pure Blues Rock blast, Rodeo is an introspective cycle of 60’s atmospheric ballad Rock performed with clarity and fidelity to the source inspiration. Rosedale Junction is a guitar band. Leader Soriero is a clean guitarist with a big well sculpted tone reminiscent of David Gilmore. This tone perfectly fits the Pink Floyd vibe of many of the tracks. Singers Dgiovahni Denize, Kristin Lawler, Sam Tuten, and Rachel Gavaletz all handle lead vocal duties with Lawler and Tyra Juliet offering some background vocal support. Soriero lays in the bass on all tracks and is accompanied by a core rhythm section of Roger Smith on various keys and Jim Riley on drums. Adding flourishes on various tracks are Andy Ellison on a beautifully keening pedal steel guitar, Vito Gutilla lush-ing things up with violin, Steve Stizzo adding omp-ah on accordion and horn flashes from Matt Soriero and Mark Morgan.Toby Soriero is not just a guitarist but he is also a prolific songwriter. 8 of the 9 tunes on this record are originals. With a clear writing voice, Soriero tells stories, through his various vocalists, about love, aging and the daily drama of life. The lilting Country ballad “Little Long Haired Angel” features Sam Tuten in a plain spoken warble and Stizzo’s accordion drones channeling Flaco Jimenez. The dark thrum of “Goin’ Down to Walpole” featuring Tuten and Guitilla’s mournful violin is about the maximum security prison in Walpole, MA that stands gray in a large patch of median land between the north and south bound lanes of I95.In spite of Soriero’s strong songwriting voice, the centerpiece of The Last Rodeo is an 11 minute rendition of the Felton Robinson classic “Loan Me a Dime.” Featuring educator and mezzo-soprano vocalist Kristin Lawler, this version of “Loan Me” is in direct lineage to Boz Scaggs’s 1969 version. Junction’s version replaces the Duane Allmen fueled fire and mania of Scaggs’ version with a brooding introspection. The extended guitar solos highlight Soriero’s clean, well manicured Clapton and Gilmore style. The Last Rodeo is a solid cathartic listen. It’s the kind of music you put on when you want to ruminate about the difficult times we are living in, maybe with some brown liquid in a rocks glass. It is also a pretty stark departure from the bruising brawling bravado of the band’s 2021 debut. It’s exciting when a band can keep their sound moving and changing. It makes one that much more interested to hear the next chapter.

Early in 1991, I went to the Red Lion pub in Brentford to visit Charlie, who was doing a gig with a singer I had not heard of, Willy Finlayson. It was a Sunday lunch gig, and when I arrived the place was packed quite literally to the rafters. The band was an all star line up, including guitarist Mickey Moody. Willy Finlayson is a fantastic singer and at this gig he was very much at the height of his powers with an unusually good set. Largely on impulse, egged on by Charlie’s enthusiasm, I decided to make a live recording of this line up.For the recording John Etchells was again the engineer. Researching mobile recording studios led us to the Advision mobile truck, at that time ?850 per day, which was on hire to Prince for the two weeks before we used it. Around that time I met Dave Mackay, who owned a Mitsubishi digital multi track, which, with considerable effort because its a heavy machine, we loaded onto the Advision truck for the recordings with the agreement that we would mix the album at Dave’s Studio in Woldingham. The venue was booked for Friday Night, Saturday night and Sunday lunch to enable us to record three versions of each track. What followed was a great fun weekend with huge amounts of energy crackling around. The ‘Hurters’ on the album are – MICKEY MOODY on guitar, MATT IRVINE on keys, NIGEL PORTMAN SMITH on bass, and CHARLIE MORGAN on Drums.Willy was in fine voice throughout. All three shows were packed and those present will remember the electric atmosphere in the room. The album was mixed in four fun filled days at Dave Mackay’s studio in Woldingham by John Etchells. There were a ‘very few’ overdubs on the vocal parts, mostly because of technical limitations with live sound, but in essence the recording remains an honest reflection of a top class group of musicians. The track ‘On the air tonight’ has a special value, with the crowds participation playing an important role in the arrangement.John Graham again provided the cover photography, with Willy using my Casio Stratocaster for the cover picture, and the artwork design was by Sku Richards. The album was released in mid 91 on a small scale and via gig sales and internet promotion sold close to 2,000 pieces. Following an approach from Germany, there was a license deal and the prospect of a release in Germany followed by a tour. I visited Germany to make the arrangements and had a super time, meeting Albert Lee, staying at Frank Farians former studio, and drinking some excellent German beer, however the proposed tour and release never quite materialized. Another reminder that making money out of recordings is not easy. The album though remains an honest recording of some great musicians playing at the top of their game.

“In a town known for its musicians, McKinley James truly stands out to me as both a guitar slinger and damn fine singer and songwriter. He’s an old soul at just 19 - he lives it and breaths it and that’s why I think his music feels so genuine and so undeniably fresh.”
- Dan Auerbach
“I’ve known McKinley since he was knee-high to a grasshopper. He’s one of my favorite guitarists on the planet, an uncanny hybrid of Steve Cropper’s impeccable economy, and Link Wray’s reckless abandon. While his guitar has been cutting heads for years, I think his songwriting skill might be the blade to keep an eye on.”

“Shake The Roots is basically a mixtape of our influences with sounds that make us happy and stories about our life together,” says explosive guitarist Gino Matteo (Gino’s last name is pronounced “Ma-TAYO), one-half of the duo along with powerhouse singer Jade Bennett. “We wanted to make a record grounded in blues, soul and funk with zero restrictions and this is what came out when we ‘shook the roots.’ We call it ‘dirtfunk and desert soul.’ I feel blessed to be writing and playing music in this band with Jade. She can sing anything and her tone is my favorite sound.” Shake the Roots was produced by multi-Blues Music Award nominee Kid Andersen and Gino Matteo, with all songs written by Gino Matteo & Jade Bennett. The disc was recorded, mixed and mastered at Greaseland Studio in San Jose, California. The musicians lineup for the recording sessions included Jade Bennett (lead vocals); Gino Matteo and Kid Andersen (guitars); Michael Burnham (bass); Carson Ford (drums); Jim Pugh and Kid Andersen (keyboards); Nic Clark (harmonica); and Dmar (percussion); with background vocals by Lisa Leuschner Andersen, The Sons of the Soul Revivers and Kid Andersen. The Bennett Matteo Band (BMB) is extremely improvisational, and while having their feet planted in roots music, BMB is a breath of fresh air to the music world. BMB’s experimentation has made every show an experience.
Matteo is carving the spot he deserves as a “force of nature” in the roots world. A sensational guitarist, songwriter and powerfully emotional live performer, he empowered the Sugaray Rayford hit machine for nearly a decade. Gino has destroyed countless audiences in the US and abroad with his powerful wit, gut ripping playing, and incredibly gifted musicianship. His explosive, spontaneous, and original live show stands with the most legendary of blues players. Gino, along with the gutsy soul-power vocals of his lovely and talented wife Jade Bennett, have been heating up the blues circuit across the western US and internationally. This hard charging dream team brings a raw and soulful interpretation to roots music, moving it forward progressively and creatively. Bennett and Matteo met in 2010 in Southern California at a gig. Gino ended up sitting in with Jade and once she started singing, he knew they had to play together. They almost immediately moved in together and started writing music while Gino toured with Sugaray Rayford, all the while keeping a catalog of music going with Jade. BMB wouldn’t be formed for nearly a decade, as Gino’s tour schedule became more hectic. They played shows together anytime Gino was in town and Jade joined the Sugaray Rayford Band on tour as a backup singer a number of times. Over time, through touring and home life, Jade and Gino decided to go nomad and live full time off-grid. They decided the only thing they wanted to do was play music and live on their own terms. That dream became a reality as COVID swept the world. In 2020, just before the pandemic hit, they had an album done, but it went on the shelf as the initial label they were signed to deemed it not bluesy enough and that they didn’t know where to put it.  That’s when the record’s co-producer and BMB confidant Kid Andersen decided to pitch BMB to Mike Zito’s Gulf Coast Records, who loved the album and are releasing it.  It not being standard blues became a selling point and not a hindrance.  The album is a collective of their experiences.

Down in Louisiana, they do things differently. The Southern states musical giants have always had their own distinct recipe for American roots: spiced with jazz, steeped in swamp-blues and cooked up a little differently by every artist who performs it. As a second-generation child of the Bayou State, Kenny Neal has taken his own inimitable guitar, gale-force harp and roadworn voice all over the globe. But in 2022, the Grammy-nominated blues masters latest album, Straight From The Heart, finds him drawn by the siren call of his hometown and musical ground zero, Baton Rouge. Neal both led and produced a crack team of local musicians at his own Brookstown Recording Studios. All the tributaries of the blues converge here, flowing into one rich tradition. Lining up in the studio alongside his Baton Rouge compadrés, the respect that Neal commands on the scene also drew some special guests, including hot-tip blues sensation Christone Kingfish Ingram, pop royalty Tito Jackson, and two songs with Rockin Dopsie Junior & The Zydeco Twisters. You'll even hear Neals supremely talented daughter Syreeta drive the vocal outro of Two Timing.

If you’re in the market for a funky southern trio whose music is as unifying as their origin story, look no further than Sir Rod & the Blues Doctors.Every artist knows that collaboration is hard—there’s a reason most bands break up, after all—so when I meet a group of musicians who genuinely like each other and are working toward a clear common goal, I know I’ve found something special. Enter Sir Rod. When they applied to be a Braver Angels artist of the month, I was first drawn to the unique, multi-generational story that led frontman Rod Patterson to take up the torch of his late uncle, the acclaimed Sterling “Satan” Magee. But as I learned more about the varied political leanings and interests of the group, I realized that this trio was a shining example of bridge-building on more than one level.
Here, we talk about how a blues music documentary helped these gentlemen find each other, how one 90-minute songwriting session gave way to a unity anthem, and how our own John Wood Jr.’s work has inspired them to help Americans “Come Together.” Learn more on their website and follow them on Facebook to stay hip to their next moves, including a 2022 tour (starts May 20 in Gulfport, Florida!) and an upcoming live album aptly named Keeping It In the Family.

The Chicago blues scene boasted its own pair of Smothers Brothers, but there was nothing particularly amusing about their tough brand of blues music. The older of the two by a decade, Otis "Big Smokey" Smothers was first to arrive in the Windy City from Mississippi in the mid-'40s. Howlin' Wolf liked the way he played enough to invite him into the Chess studios as his rhythm guitarist on several 1956-57 sessions (songs included "Who's Been Talking," "Tell Me," "Going Back Home," and "I Asked for Water"). Federal Records found Smothers's simple shuffle sound immensely appealing in 1960, recording 12 tracks by the good-natured bluesman with labelmate Freddy King handling lead guitar duties (King, Federal's parent logo, even issued a Smothers LP that's worth a pretty penny today). A four-song 1962 session that included "Way Up in the Mountains of Kentucky" and an updated version of the Hank Ballard & the Midnighters classic "Work with Me Annie" ("Twist with Me Annie") completed his Federal tenure.
Apart from a 1968 single for Gamma ("I Got My Eyes on You"), Smothers didn't make it back onto wax until 1986, when Red Beans Records, a small Chicago outfit run by pianist Erwin Helfer and guitarist Pete Crawford, brought him back to the record racks with an LP called Got My Eyes on You that showed his style hadn't changed a whit with the decades. Smokey Smothers was a beloved Chicago traditionalist until the very end.

Buckmiller Schwager - To Memphis And Back

 9. Run Me Ragged - 3:08
10. Time To Come Home - 3:38

Together Tom Buckmiller and Brian Schwager are taking the Iowa blues scene by storm with their original working-man blues.  This Des Moines, Iowa – based blues duo pulled down first place in the 2021 Iowa Blues Challenge Solo/Duo category, securing their entry into the 2022 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee coming up in May.  Buckmiller has authored three blues books and teaches a class on the Blues at Drake University.  Schwager, lead guitarist and multi-instrumentalist, has a list of influences which reads like my record collection, naming guitar legends such as BB King, Jimmy Page , Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, and Stevie Ray Vaughan.  He has shared the stage with acts Blake Shelton, Thomas Rhett and Eli Young Band.  To Memphis and Back maintains a high level of excellence both lyrically and performance-wise on all ten songs.A big dose of swampy slide blues leads the record in on “Whisky Man” before becoming electrified, Texas-style.  Buckmiller’s vocals take charge as Schwager absolutely rips it up.  “Thrill of the Thrill” intensifies the pace, and steps it up a notch, making for a barn-burner of a song.  A lush bluesy groove rolls in and hangs tight on “Tylenol and Templeton”.  This salute to hair-of-the-dog remedies proudly displays its Iowa roots with the mention of Templeton Rye.  Templeton was a total whisky game-changer in the state, touting a recipe that originated during the prohibition era and was supposedly enjoyed by Al Capone.  Topped off with horns and a hip soulful rhythm, “These Are the Good Days” catches me off guard in a very good kind of way.  The Velvet Underground vibe is absolutely delightful.  The album closes out with “Time To Come Home (Memphis Mix)” which absolutely cooks.  Heavy doses of resonator guitar, and hard-driving, George Thorogood-friendly riffs bring this one to a boil. It’s plumb terrific.“To Memphis and Back” is a solid-as-hell album, and I certainly look forward to hearing more from Buckmiller Schwager in the future.

Madeleine is Mississippi Heat’s 13th album. It was recorded and mixed at the Chicago’s prestigious V.S.O.P studios; and mastered by Paul Blakemore (Nashville, TN). It is co-produced by Pierre Lacocque and Grammy and Blues Music Award Winner Producer/Engineer Michael Freeman. Freeman was the Blues Foundation’s Chair of the Board of Directors. Madeleine is Pierre and Michael’s 6th collaborative project. The 12 original songs are written by Pierre Lacocque, with the exception of 2 penned by Michael Dotson (8,11), and 1 by Inetta Visor (12, arranged by Michael Dangeroux). Lurrie Bell, Carl Weathersby, Kenny “Beedy Eyes” Smith, NADIMA (background singers who worked with Aretha Franklin, Otis Clay and Stevie Wonder), Marc Franklin’s horn section, Ruben Alvarez and other guests add considerably to the vibrant mix.
Mississippi Heat stands as one of the longest running bands in Chicago, as well as a launching pad for many blues players who’ve gone on to successful solo careers. MH’s alumni reads like a Who’s Who of Chicago Blues past and present: Billy Flynn, Lurrie Bell, Carl Weathersby, Kenny “Beedy Eyes” Smith, Deitra Farr, Bob Stroger, Calvin “Fuzz” Jones, James Wheeler, Barrelhouse Chuck, Jon McDonald, Robert Covington, Bob Carter and more.
Mississippi Heat’s personnel may have changed over the decades, but the heart and soul of the music remains with Pierre Lacocque, who directs the band with his highly creative, virtuosic harmonica skills, stellar songwriting and artistic vision. MH embodies the traditional Chicago blues ensemble style, but Lacocque sometimes adds in some zydeco, world beats, Latin and jazz for spice; it’s not surprising since the Israeli-born native (of Christian parents from Belgium) has lived in and traveled to many different countries.
After playing harmonica in various blues bands in both Chicago and Canada (where he attended college) Lacocque formed his own  band in 1991 (along with Jon McDonald, Bob Stroger and Robert Covington). Since then, Mississippi Heat has become an internationally acclaimed, beloved band that always features Chicago’s top talent playing original music. MH has performed all over the world, including the U.S., Canada, Europe, Mexico, South America and Northern Africa.
Mississippi Heat celebrates its 30th anniversary, with the new album, Madeleine, on which Lacocque pays homage to both his musical band family and his own clan’s history. The title track — a passionate, heartfelt instrumental on which the bandleader bares his soul through his expressive harmonica prowess – is named after his maternal grandmother Emma Magdalena (Madeleine) Van der Linden, affectionately known as “Mamy.” Pierre Lacocque and his family may hail from Europe, rather than the Mississippi Delta, but indeed they have lived the blues. “Our grandmother (Madeleine) went through two World Wars, lost her eldest son Jean (Pierre’s uncle) when he was 17. He died at the Mauthausen Concentration Camp (Upper Austria). Like his father Alfred, Jean had been involved in Resistance activities. Pierre’s grandfather was imprisoned and tortured by the Nazis. He twice faced a firing squad but was rescued by a local priest who vouched for his innocence. Mamy never recovered from Jean’s death and always wore black clothes,” Pierre relates. Both sets of Pierre’s maternal and paternal grandparents in Ransart, Belgium were involved in the Resistance, helping Jewish families, and also providing food for the poor. “They had a farm and used it for the good. Fairness and love-in-action was Mamy’s life-long motto,” Pierre proudly notes. As a bandleader, Lacocque is famously known for the fairness and generosity he extends to his bandmates, whether on the road, performing live or in the studio. On Madeleine, he is joined by MH alumni and extra special guests: Lurrie Bell, Carl Weathersby, Kenny “Beedy Eyes” Smith, and backup vocalists Nanette Frank, Diane Madison & Mae Koen (who sang with Stevie Wonder, Otis Clay and Aretha Franklin). Longtime band members — singer Inetta Visor and guitarist/vocalist Michael Dotson — contributed their own songs, with Lacocque having written the majority of the 12 tracks. The versatile rhythm section is held down by drummer Terrence Williams, bassist Brian Quinn and percussionist Ruben Alvarez with Giles Corey on rhythm and lead guitars. Marc Franklin (trumpet) and Kirk Smothers (sax) add the brass and sass to MH’s sound. Returning to the fold are Grammy and BMA winning producer Michael Freeman and keyboard whiz Christopher “Hambone” Cameron. Also, on piano is Delmark recording artist Johnny Iguana, who played in Junior Wells’ band. Daneshia Hamilton, a young singer from Chicago’s West Side, makes her MH debut on four tunes; her wonderful voice captivates the listener and draws them into each song’s story. Madeleine stands as a fitting tribute to a remarkably unique and enduring band now entering its third decade; listen and enjoy the blues as only Mississippi Heat can play them!

Fish Eyed Blues officially formed in 2016.
Fish Eyed Blues spins a mix of traditional and contemporary blues along with blues rock, giving it their own interpretation, merging the spirit and the soul of the blues with the energy of rock and roll, while respecting the artists that created it. Add in improv jams mixed with rock and funk, Fish Eyed Blues takes the blues and gives it its own makeover. FEB's original material has the blues tradition with a contemporary vibe and feel. Covers by Muddy Waters, Eric Clapton, Freddie King, BB King, along with Stevie Ray Vaughan, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, ZZ Top, Allman Bros., Hendrix, to name a few. Fish Eyed Blues plays the blues with originality and a rock and roll energy.
…weaned on 70's rock….not really knowing that it was "blues" with Marshalls… Led Zep, Aerosmith, Edgar Winter, Jeff Beck, Hendrix & Cream….(ok 60's).. Progressive rock…Kansas (wow..rock guitar tone with classical movements), Floyd (oh those Gilmour solos!!)….
Enter Stevie Ray Vaughan…hmmm..this guy sounds different….sorta like Hendrix but not really….this is blues…

In the last twenty-five years, Roger C. Wade (harp/vocals) has become a stalwart on the European stage of traditional blues harmonica players. Both powerful and deeply rooted in the blues, his musical approach is not only appreciated by those familiar with the genre but also those that are not. Spontaneity, humour and a large helping of stage presence have enthused audiences for more than 25 years throughout Europe.Born in 1968 in Norwich, England, Roger discovered his love for traditional blues in the mid 1980s. After busking on the streets of England, Roger moved to Germany, where he played in his first blues band in the early 90s, first as a sideman then as both singer and harp player. Since then, he has been in numerous bands, including his own band Little Roger & The House- rockers and his latest duo The Night Walkers. Roger has brought out 8 CDs under his own name and appeared as a guest on others.Having had the idea for this project and the CD you are holding in your hand, he is very plea- sed and honoured to get so many great musicians to join forces and present you their blues!

When the average fan thinks of hotbeds of the blues, he or she thinks of cities like Chicago, Austin, and Memphis, and even such far-flung outposts as London and Paris. That’s all set to change, however, as this red-hot Brazilian, guitarist Big Gilson a TopCat Records USA artist, is poised to put Rio de Janeiro on the blues map.Gilson, have released fourteen CDs, and honed his chops the last thirty years gigging on his own (in South & North America, and also in Europe) and as the opening act for Steve Winwood on his Brazilian tour, Johnny Rivers (70.000 people audience), and twice to the master B.B. King. While touring America, and gigging at such clubs as Florida’s Bamboo Room, New York’s Blue Note, and all over Chi-town, the band knocked out such blues gods as Canned Heat, Mick Taylor, Tab Benoit, Corey Harries, Duke Robillard, Lonnie Brooks, Magic Slim, Saffire, Walter “Wolfman” Washington, Johnny Winter and Buddy Guy, who extended the Boy from Brazil an open invitation to play his Legends Club anytime. As well as performing in blues festivals all over the world, he also had played gigs in such great venues as the Blue Note, NY (five times), the Bamboo Room, FL (three times) voted four years in the row the best blues club in America, the Tobacco Road (one of the oldest clubs in America, for the fifth time, the best Dallas club, the Deep Ellum Blues among others. Among other companies from the music industry, this guy has the support from Marshall Amps.
