'The Cheaters' are a blues-rock based band, based in Newcastle -UK. They have been in existence since 2003 and have built a strong following in the north of the UK. The 'Train To Wilderness' album consists of 12 tracks: 10 originals and 2 cover versions; it blends old school blues rock with a contemporary feel. The influences are clear on the album: Free, Faces, Fleetwood Mac, Fabulous Thunderbirds, Howlin' Wolf, Dr John, Thin Lizzy, BB King, Paul Lamb, The Skywalkers, Big Walter Horton, Rory Gallagher, Freddie King, ZZ Top...
The band are a 6 piece band and their musicianship shines on the album. There is some tremendous harmonica playing and the dual guitar work by Scott Henderson and Neil Hall is fantastic. The band have a piano player with real musical caliber: Alan Law, a man who alongside his brothers used to jam with the great Jon Cleary.
The styles on the album include good time rhythm and blues which can be heard on 'Big Hip Girl', 'Come Back Baby' and 'Honeymaker'. This is contrasted to the contemporary guitar based rock on 'Free Wheelin' Man' and 'Train to Wilderness' and there is even 'roots' style music such as 'Voodoo Queen' which could have been recorded in New Orleans. The track 'Spam' is the centerpiece song on the album and clocks in at 7 minutes long. This song has overtones of 'Van Morrison' and 'Love'. This is a lean album clocking in at just under 45 minutes. 'Blues Matters' magazine describes the band as "original and the music is done with confidence and done well". If you want to try something original, this might be the album for you!

Albert Castiglia - I Got Love

Tracks Listing:
 1. I Got Love - 3:17
 2. Don't Pray with the Devil - 3:23
 3. Burning Bridges - 3:57
 4. Sanctuary - 4:25
 5. Double Down - 2:59

 8. Depression Blues - 4:27
 9. Freedomland - 4:02
10. You Don't Know Hell - 4:28
11. Take My Name out of Your Mouth - 6:00

I Got Love was produced by Gulf Coast Records guitarist and co-owner Mike Zito and features a stellar cast of musicians backing Albert Castiglia (guitar and vocals): Justine Tompkins (bass and vocals); Ephraim Lowell (drums and vocals) and Lewis Stephens (Hammond B3 organ and piano). The new album, which showcases 11 blistering, blues-drenched tracks, is a personal and powerful statement from Castiglia. “I Got Love is a musical essay documenting the last two years of my life: two years of many highs and lows,” Castiglia offers. “It’s about falling, failing, adapting, reinventing, surviving and becoming triumphant. It contains musings of an unemployed man, a covid-stricken idiot and getting through it like Andy Dufresne in ‘The Shawshank Redemption.’  The blues and blues-infused music is rooted in truth. This album is my truth. To ignore the events of the past two years (the covid era) and write about anything else would not be my truth. I went through it all – loss, depression, illness, fear of the unknown. I know I couldn’t have been the only one that went through it. This collection of songs is for those who felt like I did. It’s for those who went down fighting and those who keep on fighting. For many of us in my profession and in the gig economy, this was our great depression. Some of us are doing well and some of us are still trying to find solid ground. “This album is for everyone. It’s also a thank you to those who helped keep us alive; the folks that contributed to my virtual shows and took guitar lessons from me. This album’s also for Rick Lusher, who retired from the radio promotions business and handed the keys over to my wife at a time when we really needed it. It’s about love, gratitude and becoming a better person from the shittiest of circumstances. It’s my blues in its truest form. “I Got Love is the most thematic album I’ve done since Masterpiece,” Castiglia declares. “My daughter and grandchildren were my muse for Masterpiece. With I Got Love, it was the deepest darkness and the brightest light, two extremes that tested every fiber in my being. I’m glad I lived to tell the tale!”. I Got Love is Castiglia’s follow-up CD to his last effort, Wild and Free, which was recorded live at The Funky Biscuit in Boca Raton, Florida. That in-your-face live performance captured all the energy and guitar mastery that Castiglia shares with his audiences each time he takes the stage and featured special guests Mike Zito, John Ginty and Lewis Stephens.

When Leslie West passed away in December of 2020, he left behind a towering legacy of epic recordings that few rock guitarists can match. But there was more to West than great songs (although, to be sure, he created a ton of them); there was his brilliant, idiosyncratic sound, a gargantuan earth-mover that razed arenas and stadiums across the globe. More than just paralyzing tone, though, he also had a touch nobody could beat. Stinging, swooning and sensual melodies leapt from his fingertips - with a deft flick of his wrist, he sounded like a Delta bluesman had picked up a violin. These elements and more helped to make West one of the most significant, influential and irreplaceable guitarists of the rock era.Originally, the album was intended to be a retrospective celebration of West's music on which the guitarist himself would perform some of his best-loved cuts with notable guests, along with a collection of new tracks. Two weeks before recording was set to commence, however, the guitarist passed away. While grieving the loss of her husband, Jenni was comforted by the constant stream of phone calls from famous musicians who expressed their condolences, and without fail, each one said the same thing: "If you do any kind of tribute to Leslie, please let me know."An astonishing array of West's admirers - who also happened to be friends and peers - came together to celebrate the trailblazing musician on the aptly titled 'Legacy: A Tribute to Leslie West'. Executive produced by Jenni West, Bob Ringe and John Lappen, the album features dizzying, heartfelt performances by Slash, Zakk Wylde, Dee Snider, Bachman & Bachman, Martin Barre, Joe Lynn Turner, Charlie Starr, Elliot Easton, Robbie Krieger, Mike Portnoy, Eddie Ojeda, George Lynch, Marty Friedman, Steve Morse and Yngwie Malmsteen, among others. Each track on it's own is a corker, but taken together the 12 cuts on 'Legacy: A Tribute to Leslie West' are a stunning and heartfelt testament to the true impact the guitarist had on musicians of all stripes, and as such, it's essential listening for both longtime fans and newbies. 'Legacy: A Tribute to Leslie West' is available everywhere March 25th, 2022 through Provogue Records.

Poised to become a genre-shaping staple with the release of two major label albums in the 90’s, rustbelt Blues singer and guitarist Larry McCray proves he’s been hiding in plain sight with today’s announcement of his first album in nearly seven years, Blues Without You. Produced by blues-rock titan Joe Bonamassa and Josh Smith, the 12-track collection will be released via Bonamassa’s Keeping the Blues Alive Records (KTBA Records). The album also features performances by Joe Bonamassa, Warren Haynes, Joanna Connor, and Reese Wynans. Throughout his career, McCray’s life has imitated the rags-to-riches stories of the blues. Larry’s musical journey took him through many twists and turns, personal hardships, and dark moments. After meeting his current companion and collaborator, Peggy Smith, Larry found peace and was rediscovered by kindred spirits Joe Bonamassa and Josh Smith. “Writing this album made me feel proud, as it allows others to see me as more than a blues musician,” shares McCray. “The songs are reflective of my broad taste in music styles and the subject matter, although personal at times, is relatable to anyone’s life. Hopefully, the words and message of the songs will help others express their feelings in a similar synopsis. “I feel totally reborn, with a whole new career, and I’m optimistic about what the future holds,” McCray continues. “But truthfully speaking, sometimes I do wish it would have happened 30 years ago. I would have been much more qualified for the job at that age than at 62,” he laughs. “Larry McCray is a legend,” praises Bonamassa. “We have known that for 30 years. He is the last of the great blues shouters from the rust belt. In the spirit of BB King, Luther Allison and Little Milton, Larry is among the greats. It’s now up to the world to rediscover him. He has been here all along.” “Working with Joe Bonamassa and Josh Smith as producers was an opportunity of a lifetime,” credits McCray. “Having known and respected them as accomplished musicians first, it allowed me to trust their opinions even more and made this an incredibly fulfilling project.” Along with today’s album announcement McCray releases lead single “Arkansas,” a charging ode to McCray’s childhood in his home state and an anthem for those who grew up similarly. Watch and listen “Arkansas” music video on YouTube The “Arkansas” single can be streamed here “This song is a reminder of my childhood, growing up in rural Arkansas in the 60’s,” elaborates McCray. “Feeding hogs, bailing straw, amongst all the other chores that a kid of that generation had to perform, and still, we found a way to find the joy and make it seem as though it was no work at all. I hope the people can feel that spirit when they listen to this music that was born from a generation whose prime has long come to pass.” McCray was named the Orville H. Gibson (in honor of the vaunted Gibson Guitar founder) Male Blues Guitarist of the Year in 2000, won the Top Guitarist prize in the International Blues Matters 2014 writer’s poll and was awarded the “Sunshine” Sonny Payne Award for Blues Excellence in 2015. Over the years, Larry has performed and toured with such blues greats as BB King, Buddy Guy, Albert King, John Mayall, Johnny Winter, Robert Cray, Keb Mo, Jimmie Vaughan, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Joe Bonamassa, as well as rock legends the Allman Brothers, Phil Lesh, Jonny Lang, Joe Walsh, Levon Helm, Chris Robinson, Dickey Betts, and countless others.

Florida Slide Guitar Blues from the Sauce Boss, the guy who cooks gumbo during every performance, including those he and his band give to clients at homeless shelters throughout the US. Unadorned, with little or no production, these twelve originals and one traditional tune on Raw were cut live in the studio. Scorching slide guitar slathered like habanero sauce over his very original blues. The Sauce Boss uses no effects on his 53 Telecaster or his 59 Les Paul Special. No need when you put them through a Fender Pro Amp made in 1948. The authentic sound is the foundation that Outlaw Blues , All That Meat and No Potatoes , The Shakes , and Deep in the Shed all have. Hurricane Blues was written, played, and sung by someone with first hand experience. Florida native, Bill The Sauce Boss Wharton has weathered more than a few hurricanes. And after playing and serving his famous gumbo to Katrina survivors in Louisiana, as well as homeless people all over the USA, he righteously sings the blues. Sweet Stuff is as sweet and funky as the stuff he s singing about. Taxi in the Rain and Left Handed Smile are nailed. Both are ballads without the schmaltz. Every Inch of Your Body and A Hundred Times a Day are reminiscent of old Southern Rocking Blues. Sauce Boss covers the traditional, rollicking, Digging My Potatoes to kick off the disc. So with love and potatoes, the Sauce Boss sincerely sends his sound.

Becki Sue & Her Big Rockin' Daddies are one of the most popular bands, blues or otherwise, in the Pacific Northwest. Becki Sue & Her Big Rockin' Daddies strength lies in its original blues songs and choice of obscure blues covers that meld together into a Texas meets Chicago meets Pacific Northwest blues stew. The WBS has honored the band with 39 'BB' Award nominations since 2005. Becki Sue & Her Big Rockin' Daddies has won 13 of those awards, including 'Best Blues Band' in 2006 and 2007 and 'Best Blues Recording' of 2008 for their 2nd CD release, Big City Blues. Becki Sue & Her Big Rockin' Daddies has been nominated twice for 'Muddy' Awards by Oregon's Cascade Blues Association in the 'Best Regional Band' category in 2007 and 2008, winning the award in 2008. Viewers of Seattle's King 5 TV (NBC) voted the band 'The Best Band in Western Washington' in 2008, out of 279 nominated bands of all musical styles! They placed 2nd in 2009 out of over 400 bands for that same award.

Like a meteor headed straight for your radio, Albany Down propels to the next level with their second album, Not Over Yet. Building on the foundation of their debut, these Brits prove there is no sophomore slump in their vocabulary. Their undertones are classic rock-infused blues, with the glossy finish of a modern rock band. With heavy riffs, and an equally thunderous chorus, each track embodies the versatile capabilities of the band.Equal part guitar, bass, drum and keys, each composition maintains its own layers of sophistication. The band’s contemporary take on the blues is exemplified in tracks like “Take The Town” and “Back Again,” which starts out with a Kashmir-esque synthesizer, and progresses into heavy guitar riffs. Their Eastern influence, and part Zeppelin re-envisioning, also plays out in “She’s The Light.” On “Man Like Me,” Turley shines on mandolin, giving this track a folksy vibe, still alluding to modern rock verse and chorus. Muir’s vocals range from sweet and melodic to hard-nosed and gritty, as in “You’d Better Run.” This track maintains the band’s signature catchy chorus, along with an excellent guitar solo. “The Working Man” is a powerful ballad, with lyrics that really resonate with Muir’s audience. A refreshingly unique take on the blues-inspired classic rock era, Albany Down’s latest album gives us insight into their vision of who they want to be. Not Over Yet is a true testament to their style and ability. This is one band to keep on the radar.

 9. Lonesome Katy Blues - 2:23
10. Brought You To the City - 4:02
11. Fare Thee Well Blues - 3:44

Kenny Brown is definitely a bluesman. The man has served his apprenticeship with the best and usually hands out his guitar shingle with R.L. Burnside. But this outing finds him doing a great job of leading the band. Three songs come from Burnside ("Miss Maybelle," the frantic shuffle "Goin' Down South," and "Shake 'Em on Down"), while most of the rest are traditional, including the roaring "France Chance" and "Cocaine Bill," where the bass does a perfect imitation of a cakewalk tuba. Brown lets his trademark slide sing throughout, with a wonderfully raw tone, while his voice carries the weight of years heavily -- he doesn't just sing the blues, he lives them. To hear him on the goodbye of "Fare Thee Well Blues" is to experience loneliness. With a tight band of Cedric Burnside and Takeeshi Imura, he can handle anything, put the grease on it, and take it down home. If you're looking for the real deal, look no further.

17. Sing On (Radio Edit) - 3:22

This album appears at first glance as a fire & brimstone Christian-rock endeavor. And it is. I’m not a big religious fanatic especially when it comes to music, though I love “Oh, Happy Day.” But this heavy 16-track set (with an additional radio edit cut) has very redeemable qualities. You don’t have to be heavily into religion to appreciate the marvelous musicianship & singing featured in this effort. The group cleverly decorated their songs with some durable beats, energetic lead guitar solos, rollicking piano runs, well-arranged melodies & at times vocals with soul though this isn’t a heavy-duty spiritual collection. The crunchy guitar on “Freedom,” & “When I’m Gone,” exemplify these soulful vintage R&B outings. The entire presentation punctuates with its rock significance (“One Last Thing,” “Song of Songs,” “Voice for the Voiceless”). The guitarist crunches along with blistering redemptive tones & tunefulness on his licks. Impressive. This is the 11th LP by Nashville’s 5-member Jason Lee McKinney Band. One Last Thing (Drops March 18–Bonfire Records) is a spiritual-infused journey with no confections, the God messaging is finely tuned & on this collection, it’s actually smartly woven. Nothing is bombastic, or too clinically catechism oriented. The messages get through & they get there with enthusiasm & likability.

Beverly "Guitar" Watkins - In Paris

Bitrate: 320K/s
Year: 2022

Label: Music Maker Foundation
Styles: Blues/Modern Electric Blues
Art: Front

 1. Baghdad Blues - 2:47

 3. Melody Midnight Cruise - 2:58
 4. What'd I Say - 4:14
 5. Lonesome Widow Blues - 4:22

 7. Sugar Baby Swing - 2:22
 8. You Send Me - 5:21
 9. Red Mama Blues - 6:15
10. Get out on the Floor - 3:34

The late Beverly “Guitar” Watkins (1939-2019) was the hottest blues-slinging Southern grandma ever and quite possibly still is, judging by her new live release In Paris. The record, her first and only live effort, comes out March 18th, 2022 thanks to Music Maker Foundation and contains ten smoking tracks captured before an enthusiastic crowd in the City of Lights back in 2012. Watkins throws down on the gig with a beast of a band that includes guitarist Albert White (Elvin Bishop, Clarence Carter, Ben E. King, Ray Charles, Joe Tex), keyboardist Eddie Tigner (Ink Spots), and trombonist Lil Joe Burton (Tex, Bobby Womack, Otis Clay, B.B. King). Watkins was a dynamic, often acrobatic performer known for her tough guitar style, growling vocals, and undeniable presence. In Paris lets us hear Watkins going full-throttle for the blues and for the people, providing the kind of experience that just can’t be replicated. She was a one-of-kind, one-night-only musician with the power to reach a crowd and bend them to her will. Based in Atlanta, Georgia, Watkins began playing guitar for regional legend Piano Red in 1959 while she was still a senior in high school. She toured with Red until the band broke up in 1965 and went on to work with stars including James Brown, B.B. King, and Ray Charles. As time went on, Watkins became a headliner, releasing  her debut solo album Back In Business when she was 60, earning a W.C. Handy Blues Award nomination, opening a 42-date tour for Taj Mahal, and performing at Lincoln Center. She played a bare-knuckle style of music she called “railroad smokin’ blues,” frequently delivered with her guitar behind her head, flat on her back, or sliding on her knees. She was a fierce participant in the blues community who will never be replaced. Watkins starts the show with the solidly funky “Baghdad Blues,” a mid-tempo number that’s warmly welcomed by the folks in attendance. She takes her time building her intensity, using her voice and clean Fender guitar tone to wake up the people and get them on her side. Even without video, you can feel her electricity take over the room and get all eyes and ears focused on the stage. She kicks the funk up a few levels with the James Brown-influenced “Do The Breakdown.” The band and horn section put it down behind her and the whole bunch has the Parisian audience jamming right where they want them.“Melody Cruise” shifts gears into a soft and slick 50s rock and roll feel that lets Beverly show off the smoother aspects of her guitar and vocal skills. She pulls back and sings this cut in a sweet and lowdown style that gives people a moment to breathe after all the funk they’ve just been through. Watkins doesn’t let them rest too long, however, and immediately launches into a revved-up version of Ray Charles’ eternally cool “What’d I Say.” This is where she really starts to hammer the crowd, taking them into a straight-ahead twist groove, call-and-response sections, and edgy guitar solos over explosive beats. You can feel the place going up for grabs, everyone there fully in the grasp of the musicians in front of them. Watkins and her band channel the magic of the past on the flag-waver “Sugar Baby Swing,” which is named after one of her main guitars. It’s an uptempo jump blues that’s mostly instrumental and tremendously entertaining. You can hear the crowd urging the players on, totally committed to the party by now, and most likely thinking about calling in sick to work the next day because nobody’s leaving until this gig is done. By the time Watkins hits the all-out closer “Get Out On The Floor,” the great city of Paris has been thoroughly rocked, driven to the brink, and left a joyous, sweaty mess. Beverly “Guitar” Watkins delivered all the old-school, off-the-floor power that the room could handle and, for a moment, the world was a happy place. In Paris is a testament to the vibrant artist she was and the lessons these tracks will teach the next generation of blues artists. Turn it up and dance!

The Monaco Blues Band started in 1982 in the city of Västerås, Sweden. The name came from the Monaco night club where the band was formed after a request from the owner who needed a little more action on Sunday nights. This was in the time of jazzrock with John McLaughlin, Al DiMeola and other super exilibristic performers that the audiences by that time had gotten tired of. MBB began with strictly John Mayall and Paul Butterfield covers, with their versions of blues material and it was an absolute success. People got crazy, flipped out totally and danced on the tables when they heard MBB's boogie-jump-shuffle versions of those old songs. It didn't last long till the first tours started, first in Scandinavia and then Holland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Poland and USA. Germany became like a second home for the band, with 54 tours and many TV and radio performances. The list of artists that MBB have shared stage with is long: Joe Cocker, Johnny Winter, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Duke Robillard, Champion Jack Dupree, Eddie Harris, Louisiana Red, Ten Years After.

The next stop on my musical journey: MARCH 18 is the christening of my new album, "Sticks And Stones." The album is comprised of TWELVE new songs and they cover a lot of musical territory. From hard rockers like "Whatcha See" and "Luck Of The Draw," ... to ... a dobro-inflected Delta-style song like "Whatcha Want Me To Know", onward through the soulfull blues of "Trouble Anymore" and "Tinted Windows On My Soul", into an ambitious extended jam, "Outta My Mind" ...and even stopping off for a very acoustical blues foray, "If You Don't Play By The Rules." So many surprises, along the way. It's a comin'.

Emotional Gangster features twelve new tracks with The Chubbfatha on many instruments and doing all the mixing and recording duties.
“This record definitely reflects happier times and good solid dose of classic blues!”, says Popa. “I specifically included covers like ‘Hoochie Coochie Man’ and ‘Dust My Broom’ to show respect for the Fathers. Willie Dixon has always been my idol, you know.” But the real gems here come in Popa’s original compositions. “Equal Opportunity” is a lighthearted sing along celebrating women at a time when it is seriously needed. And songs like “Fly Away” plus both versions of “Why You Wanna Make War?” (in French and English) are standouts in their own right. Even if he’s not letting go of the rage that made him successful, the Brooklyn native lets us see a more personal side with his track “Fly Away,” testimony of a father seeing his child leave the family nest. There is also more than an ample amount of pure guitar bliss on the record, with slide guitar on tracks like “Tonight I’m Gonna Be The Man” adding flavor to the savory mix. For an added bonus, harmonica wizard Jason Ricci joins Popa on the blues rock anthem “New Way Of Walking” and the swing shuffle “Save The Best For Last.”
“This record is indeed made in the spirit of new shoes! A new way of walking. It’s created with the intention of moving forward to an old truth and a new reality that all are appreciated for the unique energetic contribution they bring to our collective life. Love is all there is. I love you all.” - Popa Chubby 2022

Jose Ramirez(feat.Jimmy Johnson) - Major League Blues(with The Delmark All-Star Band)

Size: 118,1 MB

 4. My Love Is Your Love - 6:50

 7. Forbidden Funk - 3:33
 8. Are We Really Different - 5:54
 9. Gotta Let You Go - 5:45
10. After All This Time - 4:34

Is there any more appropriate title than Major League Blues at the time of this writing amidst the MLPA strike and the news that baseball’s opening day will be postponed? That’s one way to look at. Another way is that 34-year-old Costa Rican bluesman Jose Ramirez has made it to the big time. It’s every blues artist’s dream to make it to one of the two premier blues labels – Delmark or Alligator as Ramirez has signed for the former for this label debut with the Delmark All-Star Band which, in turn means he has endorsements from blues royalty, represented most notably by the late great Jimmy Johnson and the venerable bassist Bob Stroger, both of whom accompany him here. Johnson is present on just the title track and single where Ramirez revels in the excitement of making it to the top.To be fair, the Delmark All-Star Band, comprised also of drummer Willie “The Touch” Hayes, B3 stalwart Roosevelt Purifoy, and guitarist Billy Flynn, appear only on the first four tracks. Ramirez wrote both the title track and the slow burner “I Saw It Coming,” a showcase for his just-the-right-notes guitar style. He and the band then tackle two blues standards, Eddie Taylor’s “Bad Boy,” and Magic Sam’s “My Love Is Your Love.”  Ramirez proves to be no slouch in the vocal department either. Guitar-wise, on “Bad Boy,” the call and response with Flynn is right on target. Ramirez also gives the veteran traditionalists Flynn and Purifoy a chance to strut their stuff too. Ramirez sounds every bit the pained bluesman in his vocal on the Magic Sam tune as the band offers rather restrained support until Purifoy launches an inspired solo. All four of these tracks were recorded in August of 2021.The balance of the six tracks are all Ramirez originals cut in September of 2020 featuring these players: drummer Antonio Reyes (who also plays bass on “Are We Really Different”), bassist Kenny Watson Jr., keyboardist Andre Reyes Jr., percussionist Evan Hoffman on the above cited track and vocalist Shelly Bonet on the closing “After All This Time.” To Ramirez’s credit, these are emotive, heartfelt songs that favor slow smoldering blues over showstopping guitar licks (It’s Delmark, after all). Ramirez sounds like a man possessed on “Here in the Delta” as he cries “Mississippi River wash away my pain.”  Even on “Forbidden Funk,” his approach is steady with sparks flying from Reyes Jr.’s B3 to which Ramirez adds some stinging licks on the outro. “Are We Really Different” promotes racial unity with piano and organ building to a crescendo from which the guitarist launches a searing, concise solo underpinned by the Latin percussion which morphs to a more Santana-like vibe at the 4-minute mark. Ramirez’s authentic angst shows through clearly again on the breakup song “Gotta Let You Go,” building drama that would move one to tears as his guitar’s sustained only-the-right notes match his vocal fervor. The slow build of “After All This Time” evokes the classic “As Time Goes Passing By” as Ramirez sings about recovering from all the pain. One can read in pandemic or the need to reboot a relationship. In any case, when vocal powerhouse Bonet enters singing “We gotta stand together” Ramirez answers with his piercing guitar as the two trade off each other until it fades, sending shivers and goosebumps. This is real, heartfelt blues. Ramirez has delivered an early candidate for Blues Album of the Year. Yes, it’s that strong.~ Jim Hynes
