Whether it’s the  the faded weatherworn look of the front cover, with classic bible-belt billboard  or  the late night drive interior photo, the tone is set for the Appalachia-style rocka-bluesy style howling, yodeling throwdown served up on  Catl.’s “Soon All This Will Be Gone”.
As I’m listening to the tracks, I feel like I am on some kind of interesting visionquest, where  I have front row seats to either a  backwoods moonshine festival, the making of the soundtrack to Ray Bradbury’s novel “Something Wicked this way comes” or a hillbilly hanging. The gritty pretty intertwining vocals, the old timey facial resonance with twangy instrumental attack delivers a party in your earphones. Now, fractal shards of the old style blues, bluegrass, rockabilly, and cow punk swirl around me like a pleasing incense drawing me further on this crazy jouney, filling the hole punched in my heart when The Cramps stopped touring.Sarah’s vocals are throaty, pharyngeal,  resonant and really kickass. A nice departure from the  too pretty, or too forced overdone janisesque wannabe female vocalists. The real deal is served up here. Her voice to me, is what Bettye Paige was to pin up modeling. Classic. Catl’s vocal phrasing hits the mark every song and truthfully does remind me of the glory days of Lux Interior. All tracks are sterling, but if i had to pick a couple of standout tracks, I’d pick Cinderblocks and Get Outta My Car.Get on the Catl wagon immediately. After listing to this album end to end, I find myself hitting repeat. Clearly now, I will again and again. I will go find me a vintage convertible to drive around in blaring this cd.

The Sugar Roots is a band from Portland, Oregon, formed in 2021 around frontman Chad Rupp. Chad has been active in the Portland blues scene for thirty-five years. Chad is a multi-instrumentalist and plays guitar, piano, harmonica, bass and ukulele. In 2018 Chad's debut EP 'Murderville: The Service Industry Blues' was released. With his band The Sugar Roots he made the album 'Savage's Life' that was released a while ago. Chad Rupp helped write all the songs on Savage's Life. Furthermore, several well-known guests from the Portland music scene contribute to The Sugar Roots' debut album.

An obvious uniqueness that identifies and sets apart the band is that Blackburn Brothers is a band of brothers - literally. Walker had studied jazz at the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire, leading to an extensive career as a jazz saxophonist. Prior to forming the Charles Walker Band, he was a member of Muddy Blue, which released the album Low Down Dirty Blues. Lead singer Shanna Jackson, a native of Milwaukee, began singing at the age of five and attended the city's School of Fine Arts, after which she sang in female vocal groups. Lead guitarist Misha Siegfried (who replaced Emre Alp) is from St. Paul, MN, but moved to Milwaukee in 2002. His prior affiliations include Fire on Your Sleeve, the Genie Halliday Revue Band, the Mixx, Reverend Raven and the Chain Smoking Alter Boys, Blues Wagon, and Mississippi Gun & Gun Smoke.

Guitarist Neal Vitullo of Warren and vocalist/harmonica player Dave Howard of Warwick formed Young Neal & The Vipers in the early 1980s to concentrate on performing the hard-driving Blues-Roots material they’d begun writing together. They quickly became a local sensation and released their first single in 1985. The Vipers popularity exploded in the Northeast and they soon became regulars at Manhattan’s prestigious Lone Star Cafe. The band signed with Atlantic Records in 1989. In 1990, The Vipers had their first international feature in Guitar World and Neal was hailed for his vituosic playing. The Atlantic deal failed to bear fruit and The Vipers released their first album, Hooloovoo on Big Noise, in 1991. It sold an astounding 10,000 copies. Despite that success, the band drifted apart. Dave moved on to his own band, The High Rollers, then joined Roomful of Blues. Neal took over the lead vocals and became the sole frontman for the band. He stepped onto the international stage when he signed with King Snake Records for a four-album run beginning in 1996. The band toured extensively internationally and all over the U.S. Dave Howard rejoined in 2009 and the group dropped the “Young” from their name.

The story of BluesShack begins in a cozy neighborhood pub, on the corner of a street, hidden just outside the center of Utrecht. In this small café, run by volunteers, a group of people gather every third Thursday of the month to celebrate the blues in dance and music. On this 5m2 stage, the members of BluesShack met in 2018 and the band slowly started its current to take shape. Since then, the blues dance evenings have led to more performances, international attention and performances at blues (dance) festivals, and to the recording of some beautiful albums.
The band first gained wider visibility with their album 'Live in Moscow', recorded in Studio Moscow (NL) in 2019. The second album, 'Hold On Tight' was recorded during the lockdown period in 2020 and 2021. The album's title track of the same name spent 14 weeks in the top 10 of a major UK independent blues chart. The album also received attention in the US, for example, Radio Muscle Shoals reached a large number of radio stations in both the US and Canada. The third BluesShack album, recorded and mixed in early spring, will be released in mid-August 2023. This new album 'Ten To Five' features three new original songs written by the band members and features exciting collaborations with Chad Strentz from the UK and with Franck L. Goldwasser, aka Paris Slim, from the United States and France. A BluesShack performance will take you straight back to the old Blues and Jazz clubs. And to music by Etta James, Willy Dixon and T-Bone Walker, among others. This, the first solo album by the former British Lions and Mott guitar player, is an interesting mix of styles. Across these 15 tracks Ray Majors encompasses heavy metal, blues and reggae to produce an album that is varied and full of surprises.Leave Me Be is a good, mid-tempo rocker which features Joe Elliott (of Def Leppard) on vocals. This just throws a curve, as The Killing Time shows distinct Eastern influences I thought, as indeed does Errant Magic which is an instrumental and would not have been out of place in the hippyish late 60's. I'll Never Leave You is different again, showing reggae overtones and with a very lightweight, almost minimalist arrangement. Half the tracks are, however, definitely blues-based, such as the excellent Love That Burns, the instrumental Jam Rag and Back Door Friend. Driftin' is a great mid-tempo rocker, while Ray turns the amps up even more for the crunching Soon, which is pure power-metal in style. If you bought Friends And Relatives then you'll already have heard Walk The Line, a powerful moody ballad which brings visions of the Deep South to mind.This debut album has been a long time coming. Not bad by any stretch of the imagination, there should be something on here to suit most tastes.

Gary Grainger, the  Blues Broadcaster of the Year, describes Aaron's music as having"a great raw sound," according to Curtis' promotional info sheet. Such is consummately true, more so than on other albums. You won't hear him playing Jimi Hendrix-style riffs, or trying to pull off the same fretwork finesse as Eric Clapton. Aaron sticks to traditional and contemporary blues rhythms, although basic, and compels listeners to turn the volume up. Vocally, he's reminiscent of The Doors' Jim Morrison and Warren Zevon (who performed "Werewolves of London").

The band play an interesting hybrid of classic rock and a more standard blues rock, which is a mix of say Robin Trower and THE CULT with a layer of raw garage punk rock a-la Iggy Pop. KILLING TIME for example rally has a CULT feel to it, and the band have also shot a pretty fun video for the song too featuring Germany’s most well-known female motorbike stunwoman. Look no further than A LITTLE BIT if you want to hear some of that Robin Trower influence too, but there is also a slight progressive rock feel to it which gives the album yet another angle.

Starting from the adage that it is never too late to do well and knowing, moreover, that it is almost impossible for us to list all the discographic production that daily waters our editorial staff, it is only today Today we have the opportunity to talk to you about the fourth album of this English duo, a master of high quality stage performances. It's particularly invigorating country-blues, but not only...! It sometimes makes you think of crazy pub-rock, like Dr Feelgood. Which is hardly surprising since we find in the line-up of the following albums of this good doctor, 'Mad Man Blues' (1985), 'Brilleaux' (1986) and 'Classic' (1987), the so-called Gordon Russel on guitar and who accompanied Lee Brilleaux, P.H. Mitchell and Kevin Morris at the time. But I seem to remember that this is a story that Gordon does not want to talk about too much…
Whether acoustic or electric, the music of the Two Timers has a freshness and spontaneity that is good to find on our road paved with CDs. That something that makes them irreplaceable and essential.
The duo of musicians from Brighton offers us eleven compositions of the best quality on this disc released in 2003 but of which the media have spoken too little or not at all. Wrongly. While Sarah James and Gordon Russel deserve as much media presence as the Lucky Petersons and Joe Louis Walkers.
Contrary to the heavy mechanics that align albums and tours in an industrial way, these two offer an almost 'artisanal' music. And it was pure chance that gave me the opportunity to see them on stage for the first time. It was in the last century, in my little town in Val d'Oise. A memorable evening of a weekend in July when a deluge of water seemed to announce the end of the world close to us. A few hallucinated huddled under rare umbrellas, however, remained at the foot of the stage, as if petrified by the phenomenal energy that emanated from this live duo: Sarah James on vocals, percussion and harmonica and Gordon Russel on guitars, the mandolin and the suitcase-sound box.
These two craftsmen of popular and festive music share their love of music through this album and we would almost be sorry to have passed them over in silence for so long. This is also why we are so happy to find them. Like those old friends that we no longer really thought of and that we find by chance on a trip.
And then a friendly advice: if their name appears on the poster of a room or in the program of a festival, move to go live 'live' what you will already love to listen to on CD. It's worth the effort and you really won't be disappointed.

The real challenge in presenting Kill 'Em All in this fashion is that perhaps not every track off the groundbreaking thrash record naturally lends itself to the bluesy southern rock ZZ Top made their name on. Pauna swaps galloping chugs for swinging grooves and what's most consistent and winds up unifying this all is his vocal grit, which is a fair impersonation of Top's Billy Gibbons and the late Dusty Hill. Of course, James Hetfield's own gritty vocal character is not far removed from ZZ Top, so that helps too.

The original Zooloo Blues Band was formed in Abitibi, Quebec in 1999. After a while of gigging in Abitibi, Zooloo grew tired of the small, local music scene. Determined to make a name for herself she decided to relocate to Gatineau, Quebec.In 2001, she found new musicians, who loved to play as much as she did and started all over again with a new show and a new energy. With her new band in tow, The Zooloo Blues Band began performing more often and further away from home.
In 2005, The Band released their 1st CD entitled En Blues Foncé, The band took the show on the road and started to create a buzz.
In 2008, The Band released their 2st CD entitled Let's Get Hot!
They took 2nd place at the 2005 half-final EMERGENZA Contest in Montreal. They performed for huge crowds at the international Hot air Balloons festival in Gatineau, a 3 night stint of shows at the Maximum Blues Festival, in Carleton as well as performances at the The Grange Marcoux in Beauport Quebec, the Plaza Theatre and the Kola Note, in Montréal.

The guitarist Víctor Aneiros (Ferrol, 1960), with a long career and eight released albums, now joins the former singer of the Big Bottom Band, Paula Martins, to create the Martins Aneiros Band. Together with drummer Marcos Sánchez and bassist Víctor Gacio, this emerging line-up offers a repertoire that combines the guitarist's own themes, which we can now hear with a renewed air in Martins' voice, as well as blues, rock and soul classics. Aneiros' career has led him to tour the stages of a multitude of festivals both inside and outside of Spain, among which highlights such as the Montreux Jazz Festival, the San Javier Jazz Festival, the Cerdanyola Blues Festival or the Blues Festival of Getxo In the summer of 2019, Paula Martins participated as a guest in the concerts that Víctor Aneiros offered at the Fisterra Blues Experience and Discalzos polo Festival festivals. It was there that the germ of what ended up becoming Martins Aneiros Band emerged.

Brian Brickeen began his musical career on the drum set, playing throughout the midwest with a variety of bands from rock and country to gospel to blues and jazz. His first exposure to Stevie Ray Vaughn awakened a passion for electric blues guitar, an instrument he then pursued in every spare moment. From SRV he then began studying and absorbing the work of other great blues artists such as Albert King, BB King, Son Seals, and Robben Ford as well as cross over artists such as Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix. In 1996 he joined with Lawrence Wright in Kansas City, a former band member of Albert Collins and a midwest regional artist reknowned for his mastery of blues organ and piano. Brian received his true baptism into the blues over the subsequent years as he studied songwriting and musical expression under Lawrence's tutelage. With Lawrence's death in 2003, Brian carries on the tradition of the master with his debut CD release, now available in the summer of 2004. Mixing old and new, this work combines the traditional Austin rock/blues feel with a Kansas City swing to create a unique, driving sound with a taste of the contemporary. Showcasing both his drumming and guitar styles, this work contains 9 original tracks.

Peter Garstenauer was born in Austria on February 8, 1965. He began playing the guitar at the age of 14. One year later, he founded his first band with two schoolmates, The Rhythm Gangsters. The boys from Upper-Austria started playing the blues, and musical styles related to the blues. Since this kind of music was not part of their country's musical traditions, the young band encountered many obstacles, some in form of well intentioned advice from commercially oriented musicians. Often, they were not taken seriously, or envied for their talent. Peter Garstenauer, however, continued steadfastly to pursue his interest, and proved to be a very passionate guitarist.He was mainly influenced by Johnny Winter and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Playing the blues was no longer just a pastime for Peter, it became an antidote to everyday problems, a means to bring order to the chaos within and to freely express his feelings.

Scotty Meyer Band

Scotty Meyer is a native of Waupun, Wisconsin. He began his guitar career in 1992 playing bass for two years then switching to electric guitar. His early influences were Stevie Ray Vaughn, Johnny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, and Joe Bonamassa. He started his own Scotty Meyer Band in 1998 originally just blues then it evolved into classic rock, pop, and country. Upon moving to the Fox Valley he began playing with Sonic Circus as lead guitarist in 2006 and after several nominations Sonic won cover band of the year in 2009 by the WAMI Organization.
Scotty was also a member of Geoff Landon and the Wolfpack, 2008 and 2009 WAMI country band of the year. In 2009 Scotty also began his career with the polka band The Happy Schnapp's Combo as lead guitarist SGT. Roxzoff. The Happy Schnapp's is well known for their national hit songs, Fleet Farm and Da Bear's Still Suck. He has been nominated by the WAMI's for guitarist of the year in 2008, 2009, and 2011. "Paying dues and rocking the blues," sums up guitarist Scotty Meyer's career. Drawing inspiration from the guitar-slinging greats like Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and a host of others, Scotty learned their licks and pushed the art even further with his own passionate style.
Hitting the Midwest tavern and blues scene since his late teens, Scotty has honed his skills and created a new sound that is drawing attention from casual partiers to hard-core guitar aficionados. "Slowcut," Scotty's first all-original CD, introduced him to fans across the country. Scotty's latest CD, "Pay the Price," contains new takes on his soulful and sultry originals, as well as introducing new songs with a tight rocking edge that brings crowds to their feet.
Scotty also keeps his fingers from cooling down between gigs by handling guitar duties for the burgeoning party band, "Sonic Circus." 2007 brings a new lineup featuring David Geschke (ROAD TRIP) on bass and Greg Thiel (Pat McDonald, Paul Black) on drums.

The Jerry Henry Bands "Rockin' The Blues" CD (Released Nov. 2003 and distributed by Galgano Records) has received excellent reviews and international airplay. The CD has spent over 21 weeks on CDBaby's "Top Texas Blues" list and  into the Top 20 Blues chart in Europe, as well as the Top 100 in the UK. One track off the CD, "Misty Morning Eyes" has recently been included on a blues/jazz compilation CD released by Oasis CD. Another cut, "Closing Time Blues", recently debuted at #1 on Midnight Special Blues Radio which broadcasts over the internet out of Paris, France. Their CD's title track, "Rockin' The Blues" was chosen as the theme song for the outlaw truckin' DVD "Here Comes Trouble".An earlier EP "The Jerry Henry Band" has also garnered airplay and glowing reviews.

With my slogan being "The Blues Is My Passion & Therapy" I just had to get my hands on a dose of THE BLUES PRESCRIPTION. A couple of listens to this was just what the doctor ordered. On "SOUR MASH", the pharmacists are: RICH "THE FLAVOR" COHEN, the bands leader, guitarist, vocalist and writer; JASON RICCI on harp; GEORGE PAPA GEORGE on organ, BARRY HARRISON and ROD GROSS on drums; ADMIR "DR. BLUES" HADZIC on bass; BRIAN CHARETTE on piano.
The title track, "SOUR MASH", is one of six originals by RICH. It's a funky jam that's appropriately played in the key of "WHIS"....that's right, the whole song is sung in "WHIS-KEY". Hey, I'll drink to that. Along with RICH's interesting vocals, GEORGE, ADMIR and BARRY highlight this harpless track."2:19" is a seven minute track and anyone who knows JASON "WICKED" RICCI, as he was affectionately referred to in his early Ft. Lauderdale days, knows this means lots of hot harp solos. Once again, RICH's vocals are superb."BOUNCE & BURN", another original, could not have been more appropriately titled. This smoker will cause you to bounce uncontrollably and when it's done, your hands will surely burn from clapping along. This one's all about the guitar and the drums. It's a fierce instrumental in which RICH and ROD battle it out.........and they both win. It's no wonder this track only lasted about three minutes. Any longer and the rush could have been dangerous.
"SHAME ON YOU" could very well be the G-Spot on "SOUR MASH". It's one of those incredible musical moments, that some CD's are fortunate to have, where all the musicians are peaking simultaneously. I lost track of the number of times I replayed it. Hmmmmm, I may have spoken to soon. Either that or these cats are having multiple peaking sessions."Rx BLUES" takes up right where "SHAME ON YOU" left off. With JASON sitting out this instrumental, the rhythm section absolutely goes wild on this one. Some of the best organ on the disc, and for that matter on any disc, can be heard right here on this track. GEORGE PAPA GEORGE is an absolute genius.Closing out the disc is nearly a ten minute track, recorded live at TRUMPET'S in Montclair, NJ. It's called "SHAKE YOUR HIPS" and I promise you they'll be shakin'. As expected, with this amount of time and in front of a live audience, JASON will be JASON. He closes out the number with a mind blowing two minute harp solo. However, on the way to that, you'll have to sit through a few phenomenal guitar licks by RICH.
