A bit of local hard blues on record; it is hardly something you have been spoiled with over the years. It is therefore just a matter of thanking, receiving and stomping the beat. Boogie Leg is a trio from Norrköping and Söderköping that originates from Johan Wigge's really toxic guitar playing. The trio is completed with Stefan Wallberg and Anders Krusell on drums and bass respectively and the three swing hard, heavy and massive together. Like most other Swedish blues bands, Boogie Leg draws on the extensive and traditional treasure trove of blues. There are still standards that are not broken.
As band considered for Boogie Leg primarily the thoughts of the 60s white British blues band with John Mayall at the head. That innate feel has been replaced by a reckless swing and after listening through Cut to the Bone I'm pretty pumped to see and hear the combo live.

Boogiemen can make the music swing! In 1986, the band was formed for the purpose of playing danceable R&B. There's ample evidence of their success here. "Boogie Time" is appropriately named as this CD boogies all of the time. If there is a lead instrument in the band it would have to be the harp playing of Chuck Edwards who has a definite leaning toward the classic Chicago blues harp sound. In addition to this straight ahead, down-and-dirty blues, the band also blends in a definite R&B quality to their sound. There's a catchy quality to the proceedings and each musician contributes an in-sync portion of the whole.

The Boogiemen were a five-piece blues band who played an energetic blend of traditional blues, rock-blues, R&B and rockabilly. What's interesting about his band is their low-key approach and apparent lack of a front person. There is no one lead that takes center stage all the time. If there is a lead instrument in the band, it would have to be the harp playing of Chuck Edwards who has a definite leaning toward the classic Chicago blues harp sound. The band combines elements of blues, rock, country, R&B, and rockabilly with a dash of Texas style boogie to create a cool blend of rockin' blues on their release on Blue Loon, "Scream 'n Howl'. "Scream 'n Howl' features 14 great songs that showcase howling harmonica, rocking guitar, some great boogie-woogie piano, a tight rhythm section that knows where the "pocket" is, and some fine vocal performances by both group members and the Holmes Brothers, who make a guest appearance on "Members Only".
While the Boogiemen's rocking style amy not always appeal to some hard-to-please blues purists, fans of the Fabulous Thunderbirds, early J. Geils Bans, the Red Devils, and other contemporary artists shoald become instant fans of the disc's energy and honesty.

12. Say It Aint So (Unplugged) - 5:23

This singer, songwriter, guitarist, and producer is extremely talented and it shines through on this album. Uptown Blues is filled with colorful dynamic and variation. The album starts out with an upbeat tune called “Delta Moon.” The catchy vocals, solid guitar, and laid-back horns in the background, make for a gripping start to the album. Slowing it down in the middle of the album, Ramon shows a soft and sultry style of blues in a song called “Taste of Honey.” The piano and saxophone in the song show a bit of a jazz influence. Among all of Ramon’s talents, the one that shines the most is his guitar playing. The song “Testify” is an instrumental blues that starts out with a high-energy guitar riff and leads into a guitar solo. The entire song is about Ramon’s guitar playing and it is really outstanding. Throughout entire song, the guitar wails and even though there are no vocals, the guitar speaks for itself.
Uptown Blues is a promising album and it is clear that Ramon’s strong suit and passion is in his guitar playing!

Leonard "Lowdown" Brown - Blues Is Calling Me

 7. Let Me Live My Life - 3:37

 9. Blues Is Calling Me - 2:57
10. You Gotta Move - 3:03

Leonard “Lowdown” Brown, waited until he was nearly 70 years of age before recording his debut album, but it is an album that is worth the wait.  The Arkansas native moved to Houston and was given his nickname by the organizers of the Benson and Hedges Houston Blues Festival.  While his name may seem unfamiliar to most, he has opened for some legends, including Johnny Taylor, ZZ Hill and Bobby Bland, and was recently featured at both the Telluride Blues & Brews Festival and the Baton Rouge Blues Festival. This debut album was made possible by the Music Maker’s Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to meeting “the day-to-day needs of the artists who create traditional American music, ensures their voices are heard, and gives all people access to our nation’s hidden music treasures. The Foundation’s talented drummer and producer, Ardie Dean, joins Brown on the album, along with “Microwave” Dave Galaher on guitar, Tony Grady on bass and Dan Hochner on keys and bass. What stands out immediately to listeners will be Brown’s soulful voice.  In addition, the pure, beautiful tone and effortless manner in which he plays guitar illustrates how less can be more.  Blues Is Calling Me opens with an inviting song about wanting to go to the juke joint to hear some lowdown blues.  Brown later does a bit of scat-singing in “Can’t Buy Time”, and the slow rolling song, “Blues Makes Me Feel Good” is the perfect example of how blues songs improve mood rather than causing sadness.  One of the best songs, “Let Me Live My Life,” offers a highly emotional vocal, noting, “I am what I am, and I do what I do.  I ain’t messin’ with no-one.  I ain’t messin’ with you!”  And, the title track leaves no doubt that, as stated in the song, Brown was born to play the blues and it is his destiny.  Brown used to sing in traveling gospel choirs when he was young, and that early influence can be heard in the moving conclusion to the album, “You Gotta Move”.  That song is the only track on the album not written by Brown, but he offers a unique arrangement of the classic gospel tune. There are really no weaknesses to Blues is Calling Me, and those who love traditional blues will be particularly enthusiastic about this album and will only regret not knowing of Leonard “Lowdown” Brown sooner.

Based in Columbia, SC, Elliott and the Untouchables are one of the most popular blues bands in the southeastern U.S., specializing in jump and jump-influenced blues. Guitarist, singer/songwriter, and frontman Elliott New, a former blues radio show host, has played with Guitar Shorty, Mike Morgan and the Crawl, Bob Margolin, and the late Robert Covington. Harmonica player Mike "Naz" Nazarenko grew up in the Panama Canal Zone and was introduced to the blues by neighbors who were originally from Chicago. After picking up the harmonica and moving to the U.S. in 1980, Nazarenko settled in Hot Springs, AK, and then later in Columbia, SC, to play with blues legend Drink Small. After sharing the stage with Anson Funderburgh & the Rockets, Nappy Brown, Guitar Shorty, and others, Nazarenko joined the Untouchables in 1996.Bassist J.T. Anderson is a South Carolina native who has played with countless blues and R&B bands in his home state. Prior to joining the Untouchables in 1997, he too played with Drink Small.
Drummer David Hunt has been performing since his college days, when he played four nights a week with R&B band Julius Cobb & the Soul Messengers. Hunt headed down the blues road after becoming enamored with the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. Ringo Starr, Mitch Mitchell, and Elvin Jones have all had an influence on his approach to drumming. Hunt joined the Untouchables in 1992. Elliott and the Untouchables released their first CD, Last Meal, in 1995, followed by Danger Zone in 1997 and Both Ends Burnin' in 2000. The band has a busy schedule; in addition to nightclub gigs, they have played festivals in Memphis, Birmingham, Charleston, SC, Asheville, NC, and Ireland.

Galea grew up in the notorious King’s Cross area of Sydney, where he was influenced from an early age by American Merchant Seamen who, on R R leave, would play their blues and soul records. Here, he encountered artists such as Solomon Burke, Ray Charles, Little Milton and Muddy Waters. In his teenage years, Joe sang with his band, "The Midnighters", alongside other up and coming bands from the region such as the Bee Gees, Billy Thorpe and Max Merritt. The band members (Joe, his brother and a couple of friends) would use the family garage for practice. From there, every note they played, and every word Joe sang was being watched and taken in by several young boys from the local immigrant centre at Villawood; they would later become one of Australia’s leading bands – The Easybeats.Whilst performing at the Down Under Club in Kings Cross, he was spotted by scouts and asked to become the resident singer at the new 5-star Narai Hotel in Bangkok. He worked there for two years, performing, on occasions, with top American musicians on tour, such as Rosco Gordon.During the above period, he was spotted by an American officer who offered him and his band a contract to tour Vietnam during the war, entertaining the troops. They appeared, during this time, alongside artists such as Sammy Davis Junior, Laverne Baker and Duane Eddy amongst others. They actually remained in Vietnam until the end of the war, and were the last band to leave the country before the final takeover.Over the years, Joe sang in many bands such as the successful Cross the Border. His current band is simply called "The Joe Galea Band".

13. If I Could - 1:43
14. Delta Time - 5:21

Billy Lavender's 'Memphis Livin' is an enjoyable journey though the best of the Memphis club scene taking in Rhythm & Blues, soul, funk boogie and blues.Almost as if paying his dues Billy has surrounds himself with the likes of B3 star Russell Wheeler, harp player Vince Johnson and excellent multi-guitarist Brad Webb who stars with some mega slide on the opening 'Singing the Blues'. Billy himself has a growly vocal style almost at odds with his long leaner linear guitar lines.Ironically enough his best performances come when he's playing as a sideman to someone else, most notably on the Vince Johnson led shuffle 'Shake It' on which Billy's solo is the perfect topping to some cool dynamics. Similarly the same duo works well on the slow blues 'Cold As Ice' on which Vince's harp playing is a mix of exuberant and rough hewn as he blazes his way over the top of Wheeler's organ. And almost as if to show the light and shade of their repertoire Billy and band slip into rock & roll mode for 'Get Along' which features a powerhouse track from Tony Adams. But this is an album of many colours and styles especially so when Reba Russell adds her soulful vocals on the impressive 'Blue' - complete with some unlikely sitar from Brad Webb. - and the soulful ballad 'Bottom Line' on which Billy adds some nice jangling 6 and 12 strings guitars. The strength of the album lies in the way the different styles contribute to a coherent whole, particularly so on the Brad Webb, two guitar duet and harmony vocals of 'If I Could'. The downside is that you feel a better production would have reduced the audio clutter and probably focussed more strongly on the songs and vocals generally. But as a snap shot of vibrant Memphis blues scene this album just about does the job best encapsulated by the cool blues of '3AM' on which Billy brings real presence and a big tone to bear on another fine vocal from Vince Johnson. Way cool!

Joe Galea brings his years of experience to this tight knit group of exceptional musicians. Influences are soul artists such as Wilson Pickett, William Bell, Chuck Willis to one of Joe's favorite artists Delbert McClinton. Whether it is Rockin n Blues, Soul or Country Rock the audience never stays seated when the Joe Galea Band are on stage. Joe learnt his craft entertaining U.S. troops during the Vietnam war and also played regularly in some of Sydney's top Clubs in the 60's. There are very few bands that combine rock, soul, country rock and blues. As well as Joe's strong, gutsy voice Joe has hand picked his line up to include some of Australia's most experience musicians including the legendary Jimmie Sloggett who has played with such artists as Johnny O'Keefe and Max Merritt.

 9. Hey Trudy - 3:33
10. Gutter Tongues - 2:50

Automatic Oil is album by this quartet from New Jersey and is co-produced by Billy Horton, which is always a mark of quality. Rylo plays blues. “What kind of blues?” will you ask. Well every kind of good blues. The hypnotizing rhythm of “Corner Of DeBree” and “Strangled In the City” and Sweet Al Baesen’s harp style reminds the great Howling Wolf, “Get Off My Lapp” is more on the jumping side and “Automatic Oil” is a frantic bluesabilly. “Broken Records” is another rockin’ one.
Sometimes a piano adds a welcome touch of boogie. And if you like Jimmie Vaughan (like me) you’ll enjoy the brilliant “Fistfull Of Pomade” with its organ. The rhythm section is tight but always groovy, the harp and the guitar trade licks with intelligence and Baesen’s smoky voice couldn’t be better for that style. Rylo is the solution for those who are tired of the so-called blues with no soul in it the big company try to sell.

Merrell Fankhauser and friends return to the forefront of the rock-blues music scene with a double CD entitled "Fankhauser/Cassidy Band-Further On Up The Road." The album's title was taken from the song "Further On Up The Road", which is on "On The Blue Road" CD. The group had enough material to release a entirely new album but the Akarma record label decided to re-release the previously recorded material plus all the new sessions to create a double CD that emulates the vinyl gatefold packaging of yesteryear. It's an import, but well worth the price of admission, trust me. The only criticism I have for the layout of this project, is that the label seemed to forget how to make the liner notes readable. By leaving it like the LP, it's a real chore to decipher. I guess hindsight is 20/20 vision. Although I have to give the label the nod for including an inner sleeve with each artist's discography. That's something that isn't normally included with any release. Those of you that have been following Merrell's career, know that when he puts out music it's a special experience for anyone and everyone that has a connection to the man and his music. He is admired and respected by all who come in contact with him. That reason alone, has given him immeasurable success over the past forty years. This success cannot be judged by record sales, oh no. The far reaching appeal of Fankhauser and his music is what sets him apart from his contemporaries. The groups adaptations of blues standards like "Walking The Dog", and classic rock n' roll like "High Heeled Sneakers", will warm your soul and keep you smilin' for hours. Merrell's son Tim is on hand to lend his biting and snappy guitar to the mix to inject some youthful exuberance and energy to the sound. Ed Cassidy (of Spirit fame), who is 76 years young, cuts loose with a hell bent for leather drum solo on the second CD called "Cassidy's Big Beat." If your feet aren't moving to that song, check for a heartbeat! I could listen to drum solos like that for forever and a day. As Merrell Fankhauser gets further on up the road of life, his music takes on new meaning and importance. Hopefully this man will receive what he is due very soon. I hope and pray the media and the general public recognize this superb talent while he is alive. It happens all to often in this day and age... people are celebrated after passing this way. The time is now to let Merrell know just how much he is loved and appreciated by the world music community. Visit his site, send him an E mail. He has brought joy and happiness to myself, and my family for years now through his ultimate medium of communication, music. This two set CD is yet another testament to his steadfast loyalty to his craft and his fans. This band should be great just based on the fact that it features surf guitar legend Merrell Fankhauser and Ed Cassidy of Spirit fame. Well, it is great. In fact, it’s probably even greater than that fact conveys. The music here is mostly blues and jazz influenced, but there are other moments in the mix. It consists of an album worth of new material combined with older stuff. Most of the music here is jazz and blues standards delivered in style, but there are quite a few originals, too. This is great music and highly recommended....~

Blue Stew - Headed South

Bitrate: 320K/s

Size: 124,1 MB
Label: Silk City Records

Art: Front

 8. Blues For the Bearcat - 6:27
 9. Wake Up Jesus - 4:48
10. Where Do I Fit In - 4:22
11. Found True Love - 4:03

Joined by Mitch Kashmar (harp), Bill Flores (accordion, fiddle), and Steve White (horns, keys), Ventura, California's "Blue Stew" add other influences to their blues on their album, "Headed South" (Silk City 2024). While "That's What Lovers Will Do" and "The Laundromat" are straightforward, swinging shuffles and "I'm A Slave To You" is a slow blues with a hipster attitude, "Three Days To Louisiana" is reminiscent of Little Feat, and "La Fayette Cajun Fest and Fais Do Do" is pure Cajun (even if it is sung in English). Refreshingly, Michael Miller and John Boutell are obviously more concerned with their roles as primary singers and songwriters than with impressing listeners with guitar chops. Case in point: Miller's evocative road trip song "Blues For The Bearcat" is easily among the best recordings of the year.

With a band name that’s evocative of the thick, dizzying vibes coursing through their latest album, Holywater, Nashville-based blues-soul outfit HeavyDrunk continues to solidify their reputation both on record and in their live shows, which bristle with kinetic, freewheeling energy. The nine-piece group’s unusual name originated with a quip from no less than blues icon Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, relayed later to HeavyDrunk front man, Rob Robinson by a friend and musician who played in Brown’s band at one time. “Man, he’s a no-playin’ so-and-so... and a heavy drunk!” the music legend sneered, when urged to invite the unnamed subject of those derisive words – another well-known blues artist – on stage to play with him. While Robinson remains protective of the identity of the musician whose reputation inspired the band name, there’s no denying that the ace players who contribute to the HeavyDrunk sound create their own intoxicating blend of musical flavors including Mississippi Delta blues, rousing gospel, sultry soul and muscular rock ‘n’ roll.
At the helm of this nine-piece band is Robinson, a Louisiana-born, Mississippi-raised singer-songwriter and restaurateur with feet firmly planted in the dual worlds of classic – and decidedly Southern – music and food. The owner, since 2008, of multi-award- winning and historic Puckett’s Grocery and Restaurant in Leiper’s Fork, Tennessee, 45 minutes south of Nashville, Robinson leads a band that smokes onstage, while offstage he spends much of his time feeding the smoker at Puckett’s in order to serve up some of the restaurant distinctive, slow-cooked barbecue and other famed dishes.
“To me it’s always been about food and music," says Robinson. "In Monroe, we had a neighbor, Fannie, that used to keep me. She would come over and help with the housework and stuff like that. She was a big, black woman and she sang in the choir at church. My first living memory is falling asleep as a baby, listening to her singing gospel tunes. Then I moved to Jackson, Mississippi, and pretty much grew up between Jackson and Monroe, Louisiana. Mom bought a five-dollar guitar at a garage sale down the street, and that’s really where I got my start. It was the best therapy that I could have ever had as a young man growing up, just to be able to get my feelings out through a song."
With memories of Cochon du Lait (smoked pork, literally translated as “milk of the pig”), and crawfish boils mingling with ever-present live music, Robinson was introduced to and inspired by the many Delta blues artists who played Enoch’s, a Monroe café where he often worked in the kitchen, since he was still underage and otherwise unable to get into the venue.
Once he moved to Nashville, then to Leipers Fork to take over Puckett's, Robinson started a weekly open mic night with HeavyDrunk playing the old country store every Thursday night. He also started a "Beer, Barbecue and Jesus" night featuring gospel music on Sundays.
All but two of the songs on Holywater – the exceptions being a Rolling Stones cover ("Slave") and "Midnight in Harlem," penned by Mike Mattison and Derek Trucks – were written or co-written by Robinson and are brought to the peak of flavor by the acclaimed players, whose various resumes include backing Elvis Presley, Prince and Keb' Mo', among many others.
Encompassing vocals, drums, bass, keyboards, two guitars, two horns and a pair of soulful background singers in the mix, Holywater sizzles from start to finish, kicking off with the explosive "If I Loved You Hard Enough," with its provocative opening line, "I grabbed her by the hair of her head and drug her across the Piggly Wiggly parking lot."
Hypnotic horns and a more mellow setting distinguish the album's title cut, which calls to mind prime Randy Newman or Leon Russell material. The seductive "I Can't Be Satisfied" is one of the tracks spotlighting horns and vintage Hammond B3 organ, while tunes including "Somebody's Got to Take Them Panties Off" take a refreshingly direct, albeit devishly humorous, approach to seduction.
Of special note throughout are the gospel-infused background vocalists, including Renee Armand. "She’s not singing lead on anything on this record," says Robinson, "but I’m sure it will come to that. She has a rich history. She's written for Michael Jackson and she wrote with Hoyt Axton. She has one of those voices... when you hear it, you just kind of have to stop. Kind of like, 'Well, OK, if there’s anything on earth that’s just close to what an angel sounds like, it’s that."
Another of the album's most delectable ingredients is its infectious grooves, found in such upbeat numbers as "Pick You Up Along the Way," which charts a psychedelic journey on a magic-filled mountain in which one encounters a walrus and a dancing bear on the way to enlightenment.
Closing the record, the tender "Shine On" reflects on a lost love. Less a bluesy lament and more a song of hope, it's a fitting, if somewhat bittersweet dessert to the satisfying 13-course meal that is Holywater.
Whatever the recipe, Robinson reiterates that for him, music and food are interchangeable and essential. "It’s kinda like when you pour a good barbecue sauce over a great piece of meat; it just infuses itself into the music," he notes. "I’ve run a barbecue joint for the past 11 years and it just kinda soaks into the music. I don’t know that I can particularly tell you how, but I feel it and it’s a just a part of me now."

The Deputies & Sven Zetterberg - Blues Time… Live In Stockholm

 6. I Got My Mojo Working - 6:33
 7. Tin Pan Alley - 9:41

Sub titled Live in Stockholm with Special Guest Sven Zetterberg, this was recorded on a Wednesday night, March 25th, 1992, at Restaurant Kaos in Stockholm. This Swedish band lists the highly acclaimed, late bluesman Sven Zetterberg as a special guest. This is true; he doesn’t just sit in on one or two numbers but is a featured player on every track. Zetterberg’s singing, guitar and harmonica playing are imbedded into these recordings like the snowpack on Mount Stortoppen. As far as the sound quality of these live recordings is concerned, it is extremely adequate, if not exceptional. The song selection at first glance seems overly pedestrian and shop worn, yet the band delivers exciting performances with subtle nuanced readings of blues standards such as Caledonia, I Got My Mojo Working, Tin Pan Alley and others. The Deputies are essentially Zetterberg’s back-up band on Blues Time. They are: guitarist Jyrki Juvonen, Anders Thomasson on bass and Anders Alberg on drums. They conjure up a sound that might put listeners in mind of 50’s era Sun Records recordings which fit Zetterberg’s blues sensibilities like a pair of Bjorn Borg’s tennis shorts. This live performance is poignant as it puts listeners in an intimate live setting which at this point we so desperately miss and want to be able to return to very soon.

“The most original songwriting heard on these shores for many years. By the early 70s I wanted to explore different musical directions, so I handed the mic to my eager friend and former classmate Freddie Bulsara. It wasn’t long before he changed the band’s name to Queen.
I continued to write and perform, heavily influenced by transatlantic artists like Ry Cooder and Steely Dan, and over the years I collaborated with countless musicians and bands. I released my first full solo album aMIGO not long after the millennium. It was followed by Two Late. My third, Wayward Child, is out now. Today we have the pleasure of the company of the one and only Tim Staffell. Tim was friends with Brian May and Roger Taylor and was in a number of bandswith Brian and Roger adj as 1984 and most famously Smile. Tim chose to leave for a solo career and this led to Tim’s friend Freddie Mercuy joining May and Taylor to form Queen.

Powerful lyrics, captivating melodies and strong guitar themes establish the foundations of BEN GRANFELT’s new album “My Soul To You”. The Finnish doyen of the electric guitar delivers a fresh sound that comes from the bottom of his heart. BEN GRANFELT proves once more throughout the entire playing time with his precise guitar work that he is able to create special moments with string and voice that remain in your memory. His Melodic Rock with a Blues note is characterized by his outstanding feeling for tempo and atmosphere. Together with his long-time companion Masa Maijanen and producer Okko Laru on bass and drums, he manages to remain true to his own sound while advancing his personal development. In addition, regular listeners will be spoiled with guest singers for the first time. Whether his extensive sounds, rocking rhythms or first-class blues solos, BEN GRANFELT succeeds to strike the right note.
BEN GRANFELT can already call himself an institution in Rock music for a long time. He has been on the road as a professional guitarist for more than 34 years and has not only worked through numerous stations but has also celebrated plenty of international successes! From the Gringos Locos, to the Guitar Slingers, to the big breakthrough with the Leningrad Cowboys. With the latter he has celebrated huge successes as a mastermind and lead guitarist in over 20 countries with their crazy genre mix. From 2001 to 2005 he also plucked the strings in Andy Powell‘s legendary Wishbone Ash. With the Los Bastardos Finlandeses he released three more interesting albums. Casually, he has released 15 solo albums out of the 36 albums in which he has been involved so far, of which “My Soul To You” is now the 16th. That he still isn’t fed up after all these years and is constantly improving says it all! On this new album he also extended his usual equipment from Fender Strat and Gibson Les Paul by a Duesenberg, Gretsch and Paoletti each and thus found further ingredients for his hearty and slightly modified sound. The first track “Weight Of The World” is in some way tasty, too. BEN GRANFELT leaves space and time for his guitar to his pessimistic, hopeless lyrics without falling into inertia. Furthermore, the significant drumming stands out here, which manifests a successful entry. “Life, Living And You” acts directly as an antipole to the first track. In a stomping rhythm, the Finnish musician from Helsinki articulates his desire to break out with someone and to escape from all frustrating aspects of everyday life. Further highlights are certainly the songs with guest musicians: BEN GRANFELT’s wife Jasmine Wynants-Granfelt sings on the joint PJ Harvey cover “This Is Love”, which sounds quite like ZZ Top and is easy to sing along, while Wishbone Ash guitarist Muddy Manninen handles the lap steel guitar. Furthermore, Bryn Jones with his smoky voice lends a filthy mood to the lyrics of “My Heroine”. Some of the following songs are rockier, others remind of pure blues. In the remarkable instrumental track “Sunrise” the subtle songwriter captures the mood of sunrise in its patient beauty. BEN GRANFELT is like a good wine that gets better and better as it ages and will show this live again on his tour in autumn.
On “My Soul To You” BEN GRANFELT once again confirms that he is still evolving, even on the high standards he has set for himself. His surgically precise guitar playing, which at the same time takes plenty of time and space for atmosphere, coupled with his fine voice, is real ear candy, which will definitely earn him appreciation.

Genre bending and award winning Finnish bluesrock band Micke Bjorklof & Blue Strip will release new studio album ‘Colors Of Jealousy’ on Friday 16th June on Hokahey! Records and distributed in Europe by Continental Record Services.
This is the follow up to the critically acclaimed album ‘Let The Fire Lead‘ Bjorklof released 2020 with his acoustic power trio Micke & Lefty feat.Chef. His bands incendiary live performances have been mesmerizing audiences all over Europe. Now, with Colors Of Jealousy they´re poised to take the step to the next level. The edgy, selfproduced roots music album was recorded at bands headquarter BoomRoom in Kauhava, Finland and mixed by Finnish sound engineer legend Kimmo Ahola.
Boasting 11 original songs ranging from killer opening track “Highway Highway” classic blues rocker led by Billy Gibbons influenced riff with layered guitars and wailing Hammond organ to dramatic americana flavoured countryblues, resonator guitar driven title track “Colors Of Jealousy” with bit of Ennio Morricone vibes. You get a good sense of the range the album covers from these first two singles released.
The band flirts with tradition but pushes genre boundaries with their song writing and special instrumentation to create a sound that’s distinctly their own. “Good Times Somehow” persuasively straddles uptempo soul and deltablues mix with a touch of Rolling Stones groove. “Long ago” features Memphis soul backed up with Hammond organ and gospel feel by two female background singers. Bjorklof shows off his range with dark story of “Are You Real” and blues saturated “I Thought You Were Mine”. Dynamic “It Takes Two” starts slow with a fieldholler theme backed up with snaredrum groove, turning slowly towards funky Nawlins rhythms and ending with a bursting guitar solo. Their eight album is sure to establish Micke Bjorklof & Blue Strip as potent force in roots music.

”After several international studio projects we desited this time to record in Finland. Well, borders were closed so we didn´t have any other choice anyway”, Micke Bjorklof laughs. ”To make Colors Of Jealousy we chose this time to work at our headquarter BoomRoom with my longtime partner, Finnish engineer legend Kimmo Ahola. It´s a really good sounding room, specially for drums, although there´s no control room and it is designed more to work as rehearsal studio,” explains Bjorklof.
Album was originally planned to be released in 2021 to celebrate their 30-years Anniversary as touring band but then the pandemic started. That lead to domino theory kind of delays and rescheduling time after time. Specially arranging rehearsals is not an easy task when everybody in the band live across the country and are involved in other musical projects too. ”We started working on new material already in early 2017. We had most of the material written by 2020,”, Bjorklof says. At the end of the year he got a phone call from Ruf Records to join Ruf´s Blues Caravan tour the following spring, unfortunately that dried also out because of pandemic. So no impact to the album project at the end. The band finally got into studio in October 2021 to start the recording process. Only few weeks later a new wave of the pandemic hit and causing new schedule problems. ”There´s been so many obstacles to taccle on this journey and I must admit that the frustration kept sneaking in every now and then. Sometimes it was really hard to stay motivated when you had to find that creative spark over and over again. But here we are now with the new album in our hands. It took 6 long years so it sure has been a very long and heavy process all and all. But we are happy and really proud of the work,” Bjorklof says.
