Madison Slim honed his harp skills in Chicago, and spent time playing with Jimmy Rogers, Sam Lay, the Legendary Blues Band, and Reverend Raven to name a few. His biggest influence was Big Walter Horton. With his sonorous tone, fantastic phrasing, subtle rhythmic fills, and plenty of rollicking harp solos, Slim seats you firmly in a smokey little bar with a glass of "Jack" in your hand. The rhythm section is unsurpassable with their flawless execution of the Chicago sound that just gets under your feet and makes you want to move. "Close... But No Cigar" is a top drawer Chicago-style, raucous, but slick, boogie-woogie blues album, and it might just make some noise at the 2016 Blues Music Awards.

From the band's Bio...
"After 10 years fronting the Baltimore band The Bridge, Cris Jacobs is continuing to show his depth and range as a gifted songwriter and performer with the new Cris Jacobs Band. This line-up of stellar musicians, featuring the upright bass wizardry of Jake Leckie, the textured drumming of former Bridge bandmate Mike Gambone, the beautiful pedal steel guitar work of Dave Hadley, and the blissful harmony singing and percussion of Ed Hough, is a perfect complement Cris' deeply expressive vocals, passionate, gritty guitar playing, and poignant songwriting."
"The unique instrumentation and rich sonic palate create an instantly engaging sound that ranges from intensely rockin' to sublimely sweet to hauntingly psychedelic. Cris' prolific songbook provides the fertile ground for this amazing group of players to express their distinct voices, and with their monster chops and improvisational fearlessness, CJB can create a truly transcendental live experience."

Cris commented about his band...
"I am extremely proud of this first record as a band, and very grateful for Chris, Jake, Dave, Mike, and Ed for their amazing talents and attitudes.
It's been less than a year since this band formed. I've already used words like "magical", "haunting", and "transcendental" to describe how it feels to play with these guys. It's been an adventure every time we hit the stage. Its a rare gift to find a group of players that can get together and just play, with little need for discussion, and make beautiful music. I hope you enjoy this record as much as we did making it. There's much more to come."...Cris
The sound and vision is pretty much bang on as was the music of The Bridge. A skillful, tasteful recording, with some fabulous harmonies. Hope these guys can make it where The Bridge did not succeed.
"Songs For Cats and Dogs," reassures devoted, post The Bridge, Cris Jacobs' fans of his abilities as both a frontman and a songwriter. He, along with his band, have managed to carve out an entirely new musical path filled with amazing musicianship, detailed arrangements, and the ability to effortlessly weave back and forth between genres, while staying true to their original sound"...Scott Paddock

The Bop Brothers were formed in 1986 by guitarist Jon T-Bone Taylor, a graduate of the Guildhall School Of Music, London, England, whose nickname arose from the similarity of his blues playing to that of T-Bone Walker, and singer Al Eastwood. By 1987 they had been joined by saxophonist Jerry Underwood, bass player Rob Statham and drummer Sam Kelly. However, Underwood subsequently left to work with John Martyn and Kelly found work on the stage show Ain’t Misbehavin’. Their places were taken by Dick Heckstall-Smith (saxophone, also a member of Colosseum and another graduate of Guildhall) and Louis Borenius (drums). That line-up made their debut in 1995 with Strange News, an album recorded at an original valve studio in Chiswick Reach, which included six Eastwood originals. The delay in its recording was attributed to various other projects, including Taylor and Borenius’ work with Roogalator and as sidemen with Dana Gillespie.

This project was great fun for me. It allowed me to work with my brothers Robben and Mark again and that is always a wonderful thing. On Robben's song there was the joy of having my son Gabriel in the studio doing some percussion, and so actually there are three Fords doing guest appearances. Then of course, having all those friends coming in to do guest spots was extra special. I cannot thank Lowell, Fenton, Charlie, and Chris enough for taking the time to be a part of this one. They were all great. Luther's song was recorded just a week or two before his death, and I am happy to include it in this release as he was a dear friend and is greatly missed.I cannot neglect to mention the boys in the band, for they are the essence of these recordings. They bring such a joy to every thing we do and I am honored to work with them. Thanks, fellas.-Patrick Ford

Until you've walked in the boots of a wildland firefighter, you have no idea of just how much they give of themselves physically and emotionally for very little pay or appreciation. In "Mendocino Hotshot Blues" I have tried to pass along a taste of what it's like. I've seen the day turn to night as the smoke got so thick it blocked out the sun. I've seen the night turn to day as flames lit up the sky like the sun had just come back up. I've seen fear on men's faces as things got out of hand and they began to ponder the possibilities. Just happen, and others you create yourself. Firefighters chose to do what they do and must accept the consequences. We should all be very thankful that they have made that choice. This is my way of saying thanks.-Patrick Ford

11. Why Am I Treated so Bad - 5:08

We are so excited to introduce you to the amazing vocals of Bay Area blues singer supreme, Tia Carroll. Tia has been performing steadily with her own band for decades in California, and made some successful recordings before (rock, gospel, and blues (with bands in Italy and Brazil.) But this is her first stateside studio recording of strong original blues and soul, and interesting well-chosen covers. This is the album Tia’s long-time fans have been waiting for. We’ve always known she has the voice, charisma, and passion, but now with the added combination of outstanding song selection, musicianship, and production, we believe we have a truly remarkable recording that will bring the much-deserved attention to lovely Tia’s talents. YOU GOTTA HAVE IT! Tia’s emotive vocals truly mesh well together with the Blues Music Award nominated piano/organ playing of Little Village’s Jim Pugh and the jaw dropping, yet tasteful guitar of Kid Andersen. The Sons of Soul Revivers also added their awesome gospel soul stirring vocals to many of the tunes, including their heartfelt rendition of the Staples Singers’ classic “Why Am I Treated So Bad?” and Z.Z. Hill’s deep soul blues ballad, “I Need Someone.” The ridiculously talented and unique Charlie Hunter (who plays guitar and bass simultaneously) guests on “Ain’t Nobody Worrying,” an exceptionally cool struttin’ funky cover of a gem from soul star Anthony Hamilton. “Our Last Time” is a killer Jim Pugh tune that he and Robert Cray recorded during their years playing together. It has a wild soaring Magic Sam like groove from guitarist extraordinaire Kid Andersen. “Don’t Put Your Hands On Me” is an outstanding R&B romp written by the always witty Rick Estrin for one of Tia’s heroes, KoKo Taylor. Tia makes this warning song all her own and it has the added clout of a full horn section, featuring Mike Rinta on trombone, Rob Sudduth on tenor sax, Aaron Lington on baritone sax, and Jeff Lewis on trumpet. Sax Gordon Beadle also adds his distinctive horn blasts to a few songs, including the Kid and Lisa Andersen original, “Ready To Love Again,” …Tia’s back in the game! Tia Carroll brought three of her own originals to the session, including the sultry and seductive “Leaving Again” which has a funky 70’s feel with Kid’s wah-wah and Jim’s Rhodes, the standout beautiful and emotional ballad “Even When I’m Not Alone” and Tia’s inspirational message song, “Move On” which features our Brazilian blues friend, guitar star Igor Prado on stunning lead. Let’s all heed Tia’s advice as she declares “I gotta message for y’all…get up when you fall and MOVE ON!”

J Lee and the Hoodoo Skulls - Beggars Soul

Bitrate: 320K/s
Year: 2021-06-25
Time: 31:54
Size: 73,1 MB
Label: Hoodoo Records
Styles: Blues Rock
Art: Front

Tracks Listing:
 1. Baby Blue - 2:57
 2. Beggars Soul - 3:08
 3. Let Your Hair Down - 3:17
 4. Come Home - 2:53
 5. Highway - 3:14
 6. Need You So Bad - 3:25
 7. Don't Bother Me - 3:22
 8. Get Over You - 3:26
 9. Ain't No Way - 3:40
10. Baby Can't Sing The Blues - 2:28

From the depths of Surrey, with no delta nearby, J Lee Barratt still proves that he has a deep understanding of the blues as he and his band, J Lee and the Hoodoo Skulls, release their second album called Beggars Soul. This is the follow up to 2019’s Black Moon release which was very well received and, despite the seeming incongruity, they supported Shakin’ Stevens on his ‘All The Hits And More’ tour…not so incongruous when you discover that Mr Stevens is J’s Dad! That support slot wasn’t nepotism – this band can play. I’m delighted to say that the new album (as with the debut) has grown from the bluesier side of the r’n’b roots that Shaky mined so successfully and has a weight, depth and maturity that many bands can only dream of.
Opening with the field approach of Ain’t No Way, J Lee shows he has the pipes, as they say, and it grows melodically to a brass laden conclusion with the guitar and piano lightening the background. Baby Blue is next, for me anyway, and the riff and Hammond give this some weight as the vocals fit neatly…even the odd inherited “who-hoo and hootchie-coo” isn’t out of place. This is infectious and only lacked a guitar solo to lift it further. Baby Come Home has a lovely, dirty bass intro that reminds e of Nazareth’s ode to the blues, Woke Up This Morning. More join in choruses and, hoorah! a short guitar solo with great phrasing, picked nicely. The title track, Beggar’s Soul, sounds like T Rex got the heavy blues…a damn good song, with a well-crafted guitar solo…too short! J Lee pitches his vocals nicely once again as he veers from nice to snarl and the multi-tracking is very well done. Don’t Bother Me is another example of how these guys can take something seemingly simple and turn it into a melodic rock song. A commercial sound pervades here, but in a good way like the 70s rock hit singles had that bounce and irresistible structure. Let Your Hair Down is another T Rex sounding bop-along rock song…no complaints here as they do it so well and the slide solo is genius as it was unexpected but perfectly executed…too short! Get Over You suggests that 70s rock single feel again but piles such neat bass/drum/guitar chord work into it that it exceeds expectations…the solo is sparse, short but effective. Highway is my favourite, as the field song with acoustic this time returns…seriously atmospheric with J Lee’s best vocal yet: feeling, expression and clear enunciation and acoustic slide brings the same qualities…great stuff. Need You So Bad heads toward the 50s and 60s as Dad’s sort of song unfolds cleverly- not my favourite but so very well done. Baby Don’t Sing The Blues wraps it up with feet tapping firmly in 50s rock and roll as the bass sounds tuned to emulate an upright and the lead is perfectly toned for the period…in short, as they would say in those days (apparently) it’s a blast.
Ten songs, none of which break four minutes, and the mix of blues, glam, rock, rock and roll and, above all else, fun, make this a hugely enjoyable album. Beggars soul is released on CD and the usual platforms on June 25th. Bluesdoodles rating: 4 Doodle Paws – A wonderful album that will always lift the spirits and put a smile on your face.

Several songs on the new album refer to these original roots, such as Waitin' with references to heavy electric blues; Can't Wait Another Day and Look for More has symphonic rock influences and a link to Jazz and Fusion; Clash is a tribute to punk; Money Talks with its Motown intro; Fooling Around with reggae and ska influences and Wrong Distraction as a more traditional fingerpicking blues song. It is a journey through the past and present of popular music. The title reflects one of the most difficult periods in the lives of many musicians...  It is a journey through the past and present of popular music. The title reflects one of the most difficult periods in the lives of many musicians. Due to the global Covid-19 lockdown, musicians are hit hard by the closure of the cultural community and the lack of live performances. After all, the most important thing for many musicians is to be on stage and interact with the audience. All musicians in the world are currently "Waitin'" until they can go on tour again and participate in the dance that live performance embodies with an audience. The band's previous album, "Troubled Mind", was released just before the lockdown, in March 2020. Music is about timing! And received a nomination as best blues album of the Netherlands in 2020. This new album, born of the creativity that comes from hardship, comes out now at a time when there is hope that the community can open up so that musicians and audiences can be together again. Waitin' is the band's fifth album, the second with the current line-up, and is different from the others. It is more experimental, using samples and electronic instruments, but the clear links remain to the origins of our popular music. Never forget your roots! The Liberators released four albums for such renowned labels as Polydor, Phonogram and Munich Records. In 2020, the long-awaited album "Troubled Mind" was released. In 2021, the release of the fifth album Waitin' is planned on the GMR Music Group label.

Chicago’ s Gerald McClendon is the very definition of “old school.” This stellar vocalist has been performing R&B and classic soul music in the style of Motown, Stax and Atlantic Records for decades, taking great pride in doing his music the way it was done in the 60s and 70s by the Masters, earning him the moniker ”The Soul Keeper.”
McClendon returns with a new album of this “old school,” Soul, Blues and R&B, Let’ s Have A Party, on Delta Roots Records, borrowing the title from a Sam Cooke classic, but making a statement all his own. He teamed up again with songwriter, drummer, and producer Twist Turner for 12 originals tracks, capitalizing on the formula they created for his successful 2020 release, Can’t Nobody Stop Me Now. The duo reassembled the great team of over a dozen players to work on the follow-up project recorded at Delta Roots Sound Studios in Chicago. Drawing again on the talents of guitar men Melvin Taylor, Rico McFarland, Rusty Zinn and Joe Burba, keyboardists Tony Llorens, Sumito Ariyoshi, Brian James and Jim Pugh and incorporating The Delta Roots Horns, including John “Boom” Brumbach and Skinny Williams, and, of course, Turner handled all the drumming plus strings on two tracks. The album opens with a message we all need to hear in these troubled times, “Keep On Keepin’ On,” with McClendon’ s words of encouragement echoed by Skinny Williams’ sublime saxophone. He then paints the picture of a man whose life has been full of heartache and trouble on the easy shuffle, ”If It Ain’t The Blues.” Johnny B. Gayden delivers the fat funky bass line while McClendon recites the necessary ingredients for a good time on the title track, “Let’s Have A Party.” The Soul Keeper serenades a special lady on the sweet doo-wop flavored ballad “Pretty Girl.” He plays the role of man done wrong during the scorching rebuke “Pack Your Bags And Go.” The R&B portrait of a wayward soul, “Ghetto Child,” is a picture of troubled youth that can be seen on the streets of every city in America. The piano driven gospel sermon, “ You Got To Be Strong,” continues the album’ s theme of hope and determination. McFarland spars with McClendon on ice pick lead guitar for the edgy blues groove “Throw This Dog A Bone,” a radio ready track with Albert Collins’ flavor. The romantic ode to forgiveness, “ Start All Over Again,” has a sweet country style. Rico McFarland bends the strings while McClendon bends a knee and confesses his sins on the slow burning “I Just Can’ t Help Myself.” Burba lets loose a soaring guitar solo on the gut wrenching blues “I Just Can’ t Take Anymore,” as McClendon pushes the emotional boundaries. Acclaimed Chicago guitarist Melvin Taylor sits in for the finale, “Funky Stuff,” tossing out hot licks to rev up the Windy City block party and close out the set with West Side style. Fans of “old school” soul and R&B will enjoy ‘Let’ s Have A Party,’ from keeper of the soul flame, Gerald McClendon. – Rick J Bowen

 7. One Size Fits All - 3:14
 8. All Dressed Up - 5:16
 9. Dollar For Liquor - 5:18
10. Lost And Found - 4:16

Back From The Edge, recorded over the last 18 months, continues the foot-stompin’ , butt shakin’ sound that Mark Cameron is known for while adding an expanded range of songs as only Cameron can pen them – from the soul. This suite of ten original songs will take you on a memorable journey through the blues in its many forms.  The album kicks off with the funky-hooky riffs of “It’ s Alright” , a satire-laced commentary about authority figures and the age-old battle for control over the almighty dollar with sassy guitar and gritty harmonica sparing throughout. In “This Is The Blues” Cameron unleashes the full force of the horn section to drive home all the little things in life that can add up to the blues and the liberation that comes from just admitting it. Cameron winds the amp up to the max and plugs in the Dobro for some nasty slide blues on “ 2nd Job,” describing a relationship that feels more like employment than enjoyment, as the singer struggles to keep pace with his wayward lover. The relationship theme continues on “Never See It Comin” as a frustrated lover finally turns the tables on his unpredictable girl with Sheri Cameron driving home the point on grinding saxophone.  The mood turns playful and funky again on “All There Is To It” as guitarist Cameron and harmonica ace Rick Miller trade barbs as a series of love triangle mishaps unfold in front of them. The title track “Back From The Edge” takes a brutally honest look at the world we live in. Cameron’ s soulful message is enhanced with guest performances by organist Tommy Barbarella (New Power Generation) and soul singers Tonia Hughes and Sara Renner. The listener can sense that the tongue is planted firmly in-the cheek on “One Size Fits All,” a humorous take on the subtle intolerance we all experience in our daily lives delivered in a smoky nightclub style. The mood shifts to a hypnotic slow blues on “All Dressed Up,” while the rhythm section of drummer Dan Schroeder and bassist Scott Lundberg deliver an infectious groove that pulls the listener in and holds on ‘til the end. The gritty slide blues of “Dollar For Liquor” follows the exploits of a happy-go-drunky street busker and his eternal quest to get someone to buy the next round. The album concludes with the dreamy, summer-of-‘ 68 inspired “Lost And Found,” which examines what happens when love and people go missing and offers hope that they can be found as easily as simple everyday items. “ The Mark Cameron Band were winners of the “Road to Memphis” challenge in 2017 and have become a nightclub and blues festival favorite thanks to Mark’ s high-energy performance style and a rhythm section that delivers butt shakin boogie blues from a terrific band.” Wolf, Blue Monday Monthly

Kendall Rezabek - Bass Guitar, backup vocals, consultant
Scott Young - Drums, backup vocals, percussion, accountant
Jeff McGuire - electric rhythm and electric lead guitar trade-offs
Robert Bone - Electric Rhythm guitar track 1

Heavy Blues Chevy is an interesting and very good CD put out by a band with a serious sense of humor. The liner notes are as much fun as the CD with liner notes such as: "This music was recorded and mixed by M. Dycus in a bedroom on good old analog equipment. It was not stolen, he has receipts for everything." You know that this is a band that does not take themselves too seriously.
What you do get though is ten good blues tracks that get better the more you listen to the CD. The CD does not have a highly produced sound and sounds very live which is what the band was looking for. They were trying to get that live "vibe" and I think they accomplished the goal admirably. Many times I hear bands "live" tapes or CD's and I wonder where things went wrong in the recording studio because the "live" performance is so much better than the pristine studio recording. From the sound and feel of this CD, I would really like to see these guys live in a packed club. All ten songs were written by the band. The style of music is pretty much rockin blues with excursions into swing, and slow blues. Great guitar work is all over this CD from the tasteful slow blues licks of "The Walk" and "Towed Away," to the Texas Blues style of "Old Enough To Know Better," the swing sound of "She Likes To Boogie Real Low." "Old Enough To Know Better" is a solid blues shuffle that harkens to Austin Texas blues without sounding like a Stevie Ray Vaughan ripoff. "The Walk," a slow blues number, has some unusual guitar licks that you do not expect from the typical slows blues. Vocally the band can sing as well as they play their instruments. "Baby" has a vocal sound similar to Canadian Jeff Healey. "Blues Injected," the title song is an interesting mix of a Stevie Ray Vaughan rhythm, Allman Brothers harmonies, and jazz influenced riffs. "Thang Called Love" has its roots in late 50's, early 60's rock & roll and rocks out in rock-a-billy style. "Supply And Demand" is the obligatory Robert Johnson style cut consisting of basic acoustic slide guitar and harmonica. Bottom line...I would recommend this CD to anyone who likes Austin Texas blues, or just rockin blues or even someone who just likes guitar based blues. It works on all levels and works very well. It's a keeper.

Kai Strauss has been a well-known name among European Blues lovers since the early nineties. The guitarist and singer discovered his passion for the music of Albert King, Buddy Guy, the Vaughan brothers and many others as a teenager in the 1980s and soon countless nights at the local blues jams followed. From the mid 1990s on you could find him on stages all over Europe alongside Texan harmonica player Memo Gonzalez and today, after more than 25 years on the road, Strauss is mentioned in the same breath with contemporary US blues guitar heavy hitters.
Now, at the age of 50, he released his sixth album – aptly titled “In My Prime”. Strauss is an experienced musician with a signature style, grown up from the respect he has for his idols. He knows all the pioneers: Guitar Slim, Luther Tucker, all three Kings, Otis Rush and Magic Sam. You can’t pin him on anyone, and yet they all live through his playing, traditional and contemporary all in one.
Strauss understands that the music should always tell a story. On “In My Prime”, a first-class band lights a fire of 70’s funky blues influences underneath Kai, and his heartfelt vocals and strong guitar playing full of punches of feelings and emotions shine through new original songs about personal experiences (“Guest In The House Of The Blues”), current topics (“World Crisis Blues”) and also the dark side of life (“Put That Bottle Down”).
Maybe he is, as he says, in his prime with this release. But “In My Prime” is definitely not just a repetition of his previous work, but evidence of his musical and personal growth that will ensure him as a meaningful and exciting blues artist for years to come.
Strauss is a multiple German Blues Award winner and tours all year with his international group Kai Strauss & The Electric Blues All Stars.

Leon Ndugu Chancier - drums
Master Henry Gibson - percussion
David Arnay - piano
Ernie Watts - sax
Caria Olson - acoustic guitar
Phil Upchurch - electric guitar
Wally Snow - vibes
Julia Waters, Maxine Waters - backing vocals

As one of the few roots bluesmen not afraid to experiment with different musical forms, Joe Louis Walker takes a substantial departure from the rest of his catalog on his third album in little over a year. Pasa Tiempo maintains Walker's blues roots, but infuses them with jazz, R&B and soul -- most underpinned by a strong Latin vibe, as the title indicates -- with stirring results. Much of Walker's contributions to this project rely on his gospel-hued vocals, with his guitar taking a decidedly supporting role. Certainly early Van Morrison is an influence, and the disc's opening track is a stirring soul-drenched version of the Irishman's "Sweet Thing." The singer/songwriter/R&B/jazz direction continues with covers of Boz Scaggs' "I've Got Your Love," John Hiatt's "Love Like Blood," and Otis Redding's "Direct Me," all relatively obscure tracks from these artists that Walker makes his own. Guest musicians like saxist Ernie Watts -- who turns in a tour de force performance on Walker's nearly eight-minute soul/gospel tune "You Get What You Give" -- trumpeter Wallace Roney, along with the vibrant percussion section of legendary Santana/George Duke drummer Leon "Ndugu" Chancler, and Master Henry Gibson, push all the right Latin/jazz buttons. The bluesiest turn on the album comes with an instrumental slide guitar dominated take on Elmore James' "It Hurts Me Too." Interestingly, although a fine performance, it's the one track that doesn't mesh with the overall vibe. Originals such as the light, loungy cha cha of the instrumentals "Barcelona" and the title track -- both featuring Roney's magnificent horn, really push Walker on a path listeners haven't heard from him previously. Even the Booker T. groove of the set, closing oldie "You Can't Sit Down," works, if only as one of the few showcases for Walker's guitar. It all adds up to a successful side project that will please the artist's old fans along with hopefully expanding his audience. Pasa Tiempo is a unique entry into Joe Louis Walker's already eclectic catalog, proving that bluesmen can work in other genres while maintaining the integrity and enthusiasm of their musical love.

Best known initially as a sympathetic sideman to John Lee Hooker and later as the producer who oversaw the great bluesman's '80s commercial comeback, Rogers is an estimable recording artist in his own right. Chops Not Chaps, his first album, showcases his sterling slide technique over the course of 11 originals and covers. Rogers, who's also a pretty fair singer, is under the spell of Robert Johnson here, covering four of his songs. These versions won't make you forget the originals, but they may help you develop a deeper appreciation of deep blues. --Steven Stolder
Roy Rogers's debut album Chops Not Chaps is a fine blues-rock album, driven by his dynamite slide guitar. The album alternates between covers of blues classics and originals that are effective, but not particularly remarkable. Nevertheless, the quality of Rogers's performance makes this an impressive and memorable debut.

Bill Stuve - Born William Carl Stuve III in Alameda, CA. August 1, 1951. Bill has played music all his life. Being blessed by a very supportive family, Bill also scored by having a grandfather who was an artist, as well as a drummer & stride piano player. It wasn't long before Bill was playing snare drum, along with his grandfather at the piano, entertaining family & friends at all holiday functions. This relationship opened up that great big world of music for young Bill. Old school 78' records by Fat's Waller, John Phillip Sousa, Sachmo and others, soon ignited his musical passion. From there he was marching with baton swingin' young ladies, in a drum corp called "The Mt. Eden Marshals". This experience allowed him to get a taste of band discipline and success, as well as life on the road. His family moved to San Jose, CA, where his first band "The Warlocks" was formed, with Bill playing guitar. Many bands followed and it was during this time, now playing electric bass, that he hooked up with guitar man Junior Watson. They developed a musical relationship that evolved into a group in 1975 with "Harlem Globetrotter" Nate Branch. That led to playing the casino's in Las Vegas & Reno. From there, through a Watson connection in 1977, "The Mighty Flyers" were formed. That band then featured band leader Rod Piazza (Harp), Junior Watson (Guitar), Bill Swartz (Drums), Honey Piazza (Piano) and Bill Stuve (Upright Bass). It was during this period that Bill developed his unique "dog house" string bass style. For over 30 years this band went on to tour the world. They played thousands of venues in the U.S., Europe, Scandinavia, Japan, and Australia. The "Mighty Flyers" as a band received numerous awards & nominations. ''Band of the Year", the coveted "Blues Foundation Award", has been awarded to them 4 times. Bill has been individually nominated several times for "Instrumentalist Bass" since 2000. During this time, Bill developed his own record label - Upright Allnight Productions. As band leader & featured vocalist, he co-produced 3 CD's, "Big Noise", "Say Man!", and "Flyin' Right".

"After spending more than three decades as the bass player for Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers, Bill Stuve is currently concentrating more on his solo career. His third release, “Flyin’ Right”, makes you feel like putting on your dancing shoes and heading to your favorite swing club. Not only is Stuve one of the best bassists out there, his style and absolute command of the bass make him a crowd favorite. The first time I saw Bill was w/ Rod and the Flyers about five years ago. I recall being amazed that such a cool looking instrument (the big, fat upright bass) could make so many awesome and thunderous sounds! Stuve has also worked w/ many blues legends over the years including Jimmy Rogers, William Clarke, and Junior Watson. His other solo releases, “Big Noise” and “Say Man” also offer to the listener that authentic jump blues sound that will keep you interested and wanting more from beginning to end. Bill also offers fine vocals and enthusiasm to back up his expert bass thumpin’. I was dancin’ in my chair listening to this one! I give this cd a 4.25 of 5 on the STLBluesometer! Stuve might be takin’ a break w/ Rod and the Mighty Flyers, but he isn’t cooling off or slowing down anytime soon!"

This CD includes special guest performances by pianist Phil Aaberg, harmonica wizard Norton Buffalo, vocalist Shana Morrison and fiddler Tom Rigney. 'I am first and foremost a performer and I have been playing with these players for a long time. It's great to lay it down and not have to bother with the added textures of studio polish - but keep it as gritty and fresh as possible. I also wanted to capture the band at this moment in time and I think we did that,' adds Rogers. Many guitarists dabble in slide guitar, but the number of modern masters can probably be counted on one hand. Roy Rogers is surely one of them. --Guitar Player Magazine

A northern California-based blues guitarist, Roy Rogers works firmly out of a Delta blues acoustic style and is particularly good with a slide. A member of John Lee Hooker's '80s Coast to Coast Band, Rogers produced and played on Hooker's Grammy-winning comeback album, The Healer, and its follow-up, Mr. Lucky. During the early '70s, Rogers played with a variety of Bay Area bar bands. In 1976, he and harpist David Burgin recorded A Foot in the Door, which was released on Waterhouse Records. For the next few years, he played in various bands before he formed his own, the Delta Rhythm Kings, in 1980. Two years later, John Lee Hooker asked Rogers to join his Coast to Coast Band and the guitarist accepted. Rogers stayed with Hooker for four years, leaving in 1986. That same year, he released his debut album, Chops Not Chaps, on Blind Pig Records. The record was successful with blues audiences and was nominated for a W.C. Handy Award. SlidewinderIn 1987, he released his second solo album, Slidewinder, which was followed two years later by Blues on the Range. In 1990, Rogers produced Hooker's The Healer, and the following year he produced the iconic bluesman's Mr. Lucky, which also won a Grammy. In 1991, Rogers recorded a duet album, R&B, with harmonica player Norton Buffalo. The following year, the duo released another record, Travellin' Tracks. Rogers' output lagged in the mid-'90s, but he worked steadily at the end of the decade, performing concerts across America and recording albums like 1997's Rhythm & Groove and 1998's Pleasure + Pain. He recorded an album in 2001 with Shana Morrison (Van Morrison's daughter) and released an instrumental album entitled Slideways in 2002. Another duet album with Norton Buffalo appeared later that year called Roots of Our Nature. In 2008, Rogers collaborated with legendary Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek on the album Ballads Before the Rain. It would prove to be a successful and creatively rewarding pairing which the duo repeated again in 2011 on Translucent Blues. The album reached number one on the Americana Roots chart and prompted a third collaboration in 2013's Twisted Tales. Rogers' 12th solo album, Into the Wild Blue, was released in the summer of 2015.

You never know where inspiration or opportunity comes from. Sometimes it comes from hard work or lots of thought, but for me, it just drops out of the blue. At least that how it seems. This album, as well as our first "Harley In The Rain" has been a labor of love and a joy to produce and create. Due mostly to the songs, the creative freedom, and last but certainly not least, the tremendous talents of my road/recording band, John Bird, Steve Vines and Jim "Fish" Miche. Not to mention the support of my outlaw brother John Tubbs for his tenacity at keeping me grounded and keeping our fledging record label in the black. This album (I still can't get used to compact disc) is a continuation and celebration of Bikes, Blues and Brotherhood. I hope there is something for everyone on this offering, from hardcore blues fan to hardcore biker. At the very least I hope everyone has a good time listening and partying to our music, after all that's what its all about. Till next time "Keep the rubber side down" ~ BIG MIKE GRIFFIN

Bandleader and singer Micke Bjorklof founded Blue Strip with bass player Seppo Nuolikoski in 1991. After a few changes at the very start the line up has been the same for over fifteen years. They started as an acoustic blues/rock cover band but before long the roots & blues music and producing original material took over. Today the band is one of the most popular live acts in the roots & blues scene in Finland. They have stirred up audiences around Scandinavia and Europe with their energetic live shows wherever they play, from small clubs to big festival arenas. Opening shows for names like B.B King, FabulousThunderbirds, Little Feat, Bill Wyman Rhythm Kings, Solomon Burke, Robert Plant etc.” In 2007 Micke Bjorklof & Blue Strip finished up work on their latest release titled “Whole Nutha Thang”. The album was recorded in London, England with producer Neil Brockbank (Nick Lowe, Tanita Tikaram, Bryan Ferry). The album featured guest appearances by horn players Matt Holland and Martin Winning (Van Morrison, Lisa Stansfield) and magnificent keyboard player Geraint Watkins, known for his work with Paul McCartney, Bill Wyman, Van Morrison and Mark Knopfler.
Album “Three Times seven is…” was the best blues album of the year in Finland 2002. Bjorklof  and guitarist Leppänen are also know from their acoustic duo/trio project Micke & Lefty feat.Chef.

"Well, here it is, the live CD everyone told me I needed to record. I hope you all have as much fun listening to it as I had making it. Live recordings are the most difficult in my opinion, because there is no second chance. It is what it is, an honest snapshot of your music. No edits or overdubs, just raw (in some cases rough) and exposed as my music can be. So, here it tis! Please crank this CD up LOUD, open up a beer, close your eyes and maybe with a little imagination it will transport you to Daytona and The Full Moon Saloon so we can keep the party going!!!!!!!!"

The undisputed, unrivaled, peerless Detroit Queen of the Blues is Alberta Adams. Performing and recording with Johnnie Bassett and the Blues Insurgents, she is the personification of the Detroit blues scene. Some may take it for granted that blues collectors have several Adams records carefully spine-aligned one after the other. Such is not exactly the case. Although she performed and recorded the last 50 years, her solo debut full-length release only came out with Born With the Blues in 1999, an overdue historic recording. In her seventies when this album came out, she still performed. Adams looked back on a life raising three children and three stepchildren, four marriages, and decades of blues performance. Such a life has its contrasts of ups and downs reflected in the album. It goes from upbeat jump blues and R&B ballads to slow blues numbers.

Jimmy began playing guitar at the tender age of 7 on an old Sears Silvertone his dad bought for him. By his mid-teens, he was saturated in music from roots rock to bluegrass, soul, gospel, country, folk and blues. Approaching his twenties, the blues stuck like glue. Forming several rock bands in the late 70’s and early 80s’ and while honing his guitar skills on The Allman Brothers, Cream, Hendrix etc. Jimmys’ yearning for the blues took him deeper into Freddie King, Albert King, B.B., T-Bone Walker, Guitar Slim, Magic Sam and those recordings became his University of the Blues. With the birth of Jimmy and the Soulcats in the mid 80s’ he received his P.H.D. and was finally able to perform the music he truly loves. And perform he did, relentlessly, just about everywhere you can imagine!!!!!

Musicians:
R.J. Mischo – harmonica, vocals;
Frank Goldwasser – guitar, vocals;
Richard Innes – drums.
Special Guests:
Alex Schultz and Billy Flynn.

This trio from California was one of last year's biggest surprises at Lucerne. Their simple, straight-forward style, inspired by the old masters and trios like the one led by Hound Dog Taylor, got the attention of the audience almost immediately. Frank Goldwasser knows how to build the fudamental grooves, and R.J. is a great story teller in blues. Without any doubt, Richard Innes is one of the greatest blues drummers, ever. And who's the bass player? Bass player? There is no bass player. And you couldn't even tell from the power of the recordings. This trio sounds fat, like one of those downhome combos in a Mississippi juke joint. This is the real stuff. Loud, ruff, dirty, a litle nasty and free-style. If you are fed-up with polished blues and rock, check them out. They are individual, original and real blues players.
