“They don’t make bluesmen like Boo Boo Davis anymore. He’s the embodiment of traditional postwar electric blues : no dilution of the genre, no hint of blues-rock. So is this CD, featuring 10 rough, tough songs that take no prisoners, the way it used to be. ” – Bill Dahl
“It’s blues all the way,” promises Boo Boo, who plays fat-toned, full-bodied harp and sings with raw emotion, delivering the torrid one-chord boogie title track, the ominous swinger “She Made Me Evil,” and the no-holds-barred social commentary “Hell Round Here” like it’s last call at the funkiest blues joint in town. Guitarist LA Jones, bassist Adrianna Marie, and drummer Chris Millar lay down mean grooves that complement Boo Boo without stealing his thunder.
James “Boo Boo” Davis learned his blues down in Drew, Mississippi at the dawn of the ‘50s. At seven years of age, he beat on a lard can in his family band in lieu of drums (they proceeded to play all over Mississippi).
After moving up to the St. Louis area, Boo Boo corralled a real drum kit, backing Doc Terry and then Little Aaron before reuniting with his brothers John and S.L. for a weekend gig at Tabby’s Red Room in East St. Louis that lasted 18 years. “They didn’t want nobody else to play!” says Davis, who made his debut CD, East St. Louis, in 1999. He’s made a lot more since then, and he remains a mainstay of the St. Louis area blues scene.
“You ain’t gonna find nobody to do it like me,” declares Boo Boo, whose unusual handle was bestowed on him as a child by his father as a tribute to his uncles James, Boo-Jack, and Davis. “No, you ain’t gonna find nobody no better!” That’s no idle boast. — Bill Dahl /

They represented the Miller Brewing Company, as part of their Miller Genuine Draft "Band Network," for seven years, and performed at the NFL Commissioner's "official" Super Bowl party in Miami. They accompanied soul vocalist Sir Mack Rice on his 1992 album, Right Now. Lead singer Marcus Scott was heard in an off-camera performance in the film, Peggy Sue Got Married. Led by drummer Walter Shuffelsworth, the Dynatones are very much a group effort. The son of Travis Edmondson (of folksinging duo, Bud & Travis), guitarist Steven Edmondson worked with James Cotton, Van Morrison, and Maria Muldaur, as well as with his father, with whom he shared an early-'80s duo. Bass player Bill Singletary previously played with Gladys Knight, Snooky Prior, Jimmy Rogers, James Cotton and Luther Tucker. Big Walter, who serves as the band's MC, previously toured with Big Joe Turner, Lightnin' Hopkins and Mary Wells' Motown Revue Live at the Apollo. The Dynatones' horn section remains their aural centerpiece. Trumpet player Mike Rose, previously worked with Buddy Ace, Bobby Womack, and Todd Rundgren, while trombone player Mike Rinta's résumé includes stints with Buddy Guy, Carlos Santana, Wayne Shorter, Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, and Herbie Hancock. Tenor saxophonist Eric Bertraud is a former member of Sly & the Family Stone. Several ex-members of the Dynatones, including guitarist Tommy Castro, bass player Randy McDonald, and keyboards player Jimmy Pugh, have gone on to greater success since their departure.

DYNAMIC 1993 BROADCAST FROM THE FORMER FREE & BAD CO. VOCALIST Ranked number 55 in Rolling Stone s 100 Greatest Singers of All Time poll, Paul Rodgers remains as legendary a rock music icon as any vocalist from the genre one could name. From his work with Free and Bad Company, and through solo years, his contribution to rock supergroup The Firm with Jimmy Page and most recently, his work with Brian May and Roger Taylor as Queen + Paul Rodgers, Rodgers has been involved with some of the biggest and most respected acts of all time. Freddie Mercury had indeed always favoured Rodgers as a singer, so his invitation to join this project was no co-incidence. Paul Rodgers second-solo album, Muddy Water Blues: A Tribute to Muddy Waters came out in 1993. A collection of cover versions and originals each featuring a guest musician, including Brian May, David Gilmour, Buddy Guy, Jeff Beck and a host of others. The album was well received and in its wake Rodgers hit the road. On 12th November 93 he played, alongside his band, at The Troubadour in West Hollywood, CA, for a dynamic set that included many Free and Bad Company numbers alongside a couple of cuts from his latest release. Recorded for live FM Broadcast along the west coast, this CD now features the full show, a first time release for this magical performance.

Leo Hull - Bootleggin' The Blues

Bitrate: 320K/s
Year: 2012
Time: 34:55
Size: 80,7 MB
Label: Self Released
Styles: Blues
Art: Front

Tracks Listing:
 1. Bootleggin' The Blues - 3:15
 2. The Hustle - 3:22
 3. Road Hard - 3:24
 4. Blowtorch Baby - 3:57
 5. Whiskey and Women - 3:24
 6. The Road - 4:00
 7. Pistol #69 - 5:12
 8. Running Away Again - 2:53
 9. Between Us Two - 5:24

"Bootleggin' The Blues" from Leo Hull:  This is a 9 track all original track release. The recording opens with the title track, Bootleggin' The Blues. This song has a real traditional honky tonk/ JJW/ HWJ sound. Road Hard is another two steppin' country type song with some pretty tasty guitar riffs. Blowtorch Baby has more of a swing to it but sticks to the back roads roots . Whiskey and Women takes the next step toward rock with some pretty cool slide work. The Road, another 2 steppin' track may be the best track on the release. It has solid airplay hooks and country guitar pickin. Pistol #69 has the blues structure but really doesn't venture far off of the path set by earlier tracks. Hull doesn't try to sound like anyone else...he sounds like himself and that's good. Running Away Again is a pretty cool track following the straight early country / rock path set by his predecessors. Between You And Me is the biggest departure from the mainline set by the balance of the recording. It follows a standard blues format and has some pretty tasty blues riffs traded with organ. I would not suggest that this is a blues recording for everyone, but it is an interesting transitional cd for fans of JJW and Hank Jr. who want a little blues mixed in.

10. There She Goes - 3:30
11. I Love You - 6:04
12. I was Born to Sing the Blues - 2:33
13. Standing in the Rain - 5:34

Bobby Whitlock has put his signature stamp on many historic albums. As the co-founder of Derek and the Dominos with Eric Clapton, he co-wrote and co-produced the band’s double album Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs. He along with Eric Clapton are part of the core band for George Harrison’s All Things Must Pass, The Rolling Stones’ Exile On Main Street. Though he's best known as a member of the short-lived but groundbreaking group Derek and the Dominoes with Eric Clapton, Whitlock has had a very impressive musical career. Raised in Arkansas and Memphis, by the time he was a teenager he was playing on many of the sessions at the legendary Stax Studios and was in fact the first white artist signed to Stax Records. With a soulful voice soaked in gospel, R&B, and blues and accomplished keyboard skills, it was only a matter of time before the limelight found him.Upon seeing him perform in a Memphis Club, he was asked by Delaney & Bonnie to join their band. Whitlock began a friendship with Eric Clapton when Delaney & Bonnie and Friends toured with him and would soon be part of Clapton's Derek and the Dominoes project. Co-writing many of the songs and playing and singing on most (that's him doing the lead vocal on his own "Thorn Tree in the Garden"), Layla & Other Assorted Love Songs was almost as much a Whitlock album as it was a Clapton album. With the same band, he played on George Harrison's All Things Must Pass and was also an uncredited musician on the Rolling Stones' influential Exile on Main Street a few years later. The 1970s also saw him release four expressive solo albums. The first one, self titled, was released in 1972 and is the best of the bunch. Raw Velvet, while a little more uneven than the first, featured some of Duanne Allman's most heartbreaking and breathtaking slide playing (uncredited due to contractual legalities) on the track "Dearest I Wonder," recorded shortly before he died. After his 1976 album Rock Your Sox Off, Whitlock layed low for most of the '80s and '90s, living on a farm in Mississippi and doing some session work (though not even much of that).

Hi everybody! My name is Marina Kaudasch, I'm a singer and songwriter that lives between Barcelona and Buenos Aires. You're helping me record and release my new album "Love, Blues & Faith" with original songs. My music is strongly influenced by Gospel, Blues, Rock, Pop-Rock, Rockabilly and Folk genres, and it will be a mix of those styles. Why now? Long story short: Good news in bad times. I decided to make the most of those challenging times we're living working finally on my music after many years working as a singer and gospel music events producer. The pandemic forced me to close my company in Barcelona after 6 years working with Gospel and music ministry all over Europe, and to move to the other side of the world, but I'm grateful for the new opportunities God gave me! God gave me! Life brought me to Buenos Aires (Argentina) where I can work with an awesome producer and  studios that are willing to help me with my music and record together a new album.  This is literally a dream come true! But I need some help to make it happen ;) All funds will be invested into my music. This support will help me cover costs related to the new album, including production, professional recording, mixing, and mastering; also a directed PR campaign to help the album succeed and  the creation of a show to be able to tour with "Love, Blues & Faith" when  we can perform live again.

Tony Holiday - Motel Mississippi

Bitrate: 320K/s
Year: 2023
Time: 24:29
Size: 56,4 MB
Label: Forty Below Records
Styles: Blues
Art: Front

Tracks Listing:
 1. Rob & Steal - 2:48
 2. Get By - 3:41
 3. Trouble - 4:11
 4. She's so Cold - 2:21
 5. Just as Gone - 2:29
 6. Nobody but You - 2:54
 7. You Know Who I Am - 3:35
 8. Yazoo River - 2:27

There’s something about Tony Holiday that draws people together. Community has been at the core of Holiday’s young career from the beginning. Since relocating from Salt Lake City to Memphis in 2017, Holiday has been at the center of a soul blues revival in Memphis, anchored by a contingent of young, savvy well-schooled musicians with a “family-like” attitude and a strong belief in one another. Mentored by past legends, Holiday and this loose Memphis collective are building on the city’s rich traditions and carrying them forward. ‘Motel Mississippi,’ Holiday’s 2nd solo album, was recorded about an hour outside Memphis in Coldwater, Mississippi, at Zebra Ranch, the studio of the late great Memphis legend Jim Dickinson (The Rolling Stones, Big Star). Combining the sounds of North Mississippi Hill Country, Delta Blues, and Memphis soul, Motel Mississippi is equal parts hypnotic blues, driving soul, and juke joint stomper. The album consists of six originals and two covers, “Rob & Steal” by Paul Wine Jones and “Nobody but You” by Asie Payton. Like with previous projects, Motel Mississippi began as a collaborative effort, this time between Holiday, guitarist/songwriter A.J. Fullerton and guitarist/producer Dave Gross who shared production duties with Fullerton. Rich sonic layers provide a forward-thinking quality to these productions, conjuring up a vibe that’s modern and retro at the same time. The drone and drive of songs like “Rob & Steal” and “Get By” contrast with juke joint grooves like “Just as Gone” while diving into new territory with the Cajun-infused double harmonica instrumental “Yazoo River.” The album was recorded by another mainstay of recent Memphis recordings, Kevin Houston (Southern Avenue, North Mississippi Allstars, G. Love). Other musicians on the album include Lee Williams Jr. on drums, Terrance Grayson on Bass, Aubrey McCrady on guitar, Jake Friel on Harmonica, and Mikey Junior on backup vocals. Motel Mississippi follows 2020’s Soul Service, produced by another regular collaborator, Southern Avenue’s Ori Naftaly. This followed two volumes of Tony Holiday’s Porch Sessions, which saw Holiday traveling across the United States and throughout Europe recording blues musicians on their very own front porches, in front of juke joints, in the countryside, and even on the front stoops of raucous night spots in bustling cities, resulting in two critically acclaimed albums. The guestlist struck a balance between older legends like Grammy® winners Charlie Musselwhite and Bobby Rush, former Muddy Waters guitarist John Primer, and the iconic Lurie Bell, alongside some of Holiday’s peers Southern Avenue, Victor Wainwright, and John Németh. The latter two have served as important mentors for Holiday since his move to Memphis. There’s something in the water in Memphis, and Tony Holiday has tapped into it to contribute to an exciting new chapter unfolding in this storied region.

His 15th studio album features a wide range of outlaw blues, Americana, roots, and even alt-country influences, ‘Ain’t Giving Up’ finds the Austin, Texas guitarist teaming up for the first time in 22 years with producer-guitarist Dennis Herring, also known for his work with artists like Buddy Guy, Modest Mouse, Elvis Costello, and the Hives. But the resulting album isn’t a calculated return to roots affair. Recorded live on the studio floor with vintage gear and minimal overdubs, it’s a raw and revved-up showcase for the virtuoso’s jaw-dropping chops; his mastery of the elusive Texas shuffle; and his deep love and commitment to the blues.Duarte is celebrating the announcement with the release of the album’s opening track, the super-charged Allman Brother-style riffy blues-rocker, “Nobody But You.Duarte dropped his sophomore album, ‘Texas Sugar Strat Magik,’ in 1994, and he went on to issue a string of critically-acclaimed blues, blues-rock albums, and experimental fusion-tinged albums.
‘Ain’t Giving Up’ siphons from the same spirit as ‘Texas Sugar,’ but the new album is definitely its own monster. The album was tracked live as a trio with ‘Texas Sugar’ drummer Brannen Temple, but it also features a rhythm machine with some raw, looped beat patterns Duarte plays over, much like the same funky groove stylings as on J.J. Cale’s iconic 1971 album ‘Naturally. This album explores a wider spectrum of musicality,” shares Duarte. “I love Muddy Water and Howlin’ Wolf, but also feel like it’s part of me to introduce some unexpected influences. For this album, I didn’t feel scared to explore beyond hard-driving blues. I view this as expanding on the format that I love.”“I planted my flag with ‘Strat Magik,’ and on this album, I am pushing the music forward,” Duarte continues. “I’ve explored lots of different facets of my playing, but this album says, ‘I’m here, and I’m not giving up on blues or my career.’ And I’m not playing it safe, either—the solos were all tracked live.” Duarte has been known for his physical and athletic playing style—he often plays so hard his fingers bleed while he’s onstage (there are photos to prove this legend). Because of this fiery dedication, many fans and critics have playfully referred to his music as “punk blues” or “rockin’ blues.” “My style is super aggressive and physical,” Duarte affirms. “These days I’m a bit older, but I still put as much heart into my playing as I ever did—I still love playing.” The guitarist, singer, and songwriter came up as a force to be reckoned with in the 1990s Austin, Texas roots and blues scene. He rose to prominence in the wake of Stevie Ray Vaughan’s passing, and was noted for his muscular playing style; his jazz and rock n’ roll-infused blues solos; and his command of the Texas blues tradition. Since those early days, Duarte has carved his own niche through a series of beloved blues-flavored albums, and a calendar of more than 150 dates a year which includes performances billed as Chris Duarte and as The Chris Duarte Group. In both of these contexts, Duarte has headlined major festivals and clubs throughout the US, Canada, Japan, and Europe. Reunited with Herring who produced his best-selling record, Duarte instantly found a lot hadn’t changed with the two men. “There’s more grey hair and creases in our faces,” Duarte says with a chuckle. “But we have that same music connection we had years ago. Dennis’s approach is to capture raw emotion, and, because of this, he records literally everything, even snippets between songs.” Duarte continues: “I brought my guitar with me when we tracked vocals, and he said I didn’t need it—the guitar parts were all done. He used the solos I played on the fly during the basic sessions.  They were fun, and off-the-cuff, and the tone and grooves were great. I was really dialed in.” Ain’t Giving Up is intimate and gritty, but it also boasts pristine fidelity, as if we the listener are in the studio with Duarte and his buddies. It’s a reset for Duarte that shows his resilience and his undiminished love of the blues and American roots. “I am so grateful to be signed to Provogue and to work with Dennis again—it’s been a dream come true,” Duarte enthuses. “I have been so fortunate to play music and do my thing for almost 30 years, and I couldn’t ask for a better life.

Voodoo Boogie is four piece Belgian rock band. This is the bands third release, having released an EP in 2006 and their first full length record in 2008. First off I have to say that this record has a really great sound production and feel so hats off to Rob who mixed this. The first two tracks are really cool stuff but then the third track is something different and the singer sings with this falsetto voice that I really don't like. Music is pretty cool and groovy and organ driven but the vocal drives me crazy. Summer Callin' is a short bluesy 2 1/2 minute uptempo track with a thumpin' bass groove. Reconsider is a nice Fender Rhodes driven bluesy track with a laid back groove. At the end of the track it gets all dreamy with some nice wah guitar. Rain Keep Fallin' is a real foot stomper with a distorted in your face vocal. It gets a bit psyched out in the middle of the track before coming back to it's main frame of reference. Electric Kissing comes back to that same sort of laid pack piano groove with the falsetto voice again. Not my thing, sorry to say. Wild Night, Full Moon is a really cool track with a psychy guitar, freaky vocal and great organ sound. Takin' Me Home is another really cool slow building organ driven Blues track that I could hear the band really jamming out. I love this track and a nice organ solo! Leave Me Be is a bit more slick and a more straight track but it does features some more in your face guitar and a nice mid section with a totally different direction and nice electric piano and then back into the organ. The End Of My Day is a short vocal and hand clap track that ends this pretty excellent CD.

Rex Carrol - The Rex Carroll Sessions

Year: 1995
Time: 48:12
Size: 110,7 MB
Label: Star Song Music
Styles: Rock/Blues Rock
Art: Front

Tracks Listing:
 1. Do It For Love - 4:56
 2. Anytime - 5:10
 3. If You Know About Love - 2:50
 4. Gonna Be There - 4:36
 5. Hands Of God - 4:42
 6. Invitational Blues - 3:59
 7. What You Don't Know Can Hurt You - 4:46
 8. Awful Good - 4:58
 9. Rescue Me - 4:37
10. I Just Want To Celebrate / Yesu Ke Zola Mono - 5:44
11. Cafe Rex - 1:50

Rex kills the guitar work, of course. The added treat is buffet of great vocalists . If you're a blues person, you need this! Metal guys doing blues can be terrible, but this is one case where the production team reined in the talent and delivered Rex Carroll's most accessible record. Phil Keaggy, Ashley Cleveland, the late Jackie Street on Bass, Aaron Smith on Drums, Phil Madiera producing and playing B3 and guitar... One listens to this and realizes that the guitarist might have had a chance to really shine had he gone a more Clapton-esque direction, rather than idolize the metal gods that Carroll's metal bands seem to prefer.
