Robben Ford, a name that needs no explanation. For over 40 years now, the guitarist inspires artists and fans of blues rock and truly shaped the genre with his innovative playing. With both parents being passionate musicians themselves, Robben early found his love for music and especially for playing guitar – and it was a love that should last forever. At age thirteen he started teaching himself playing guitar and today his commitment to teaching and passing on what he’s learned over the past 40 years to current and future musicians, is an essential component of his career. Now, on this instrumental album the most exciting guitarist of our time proves his skills once again. “Pure” is Robben Ford’s brand-new instrumental studio album – the first one since “Tiger Walk” from 1997. With nine unique tracks the album features a “pure” Robben Ford - this guitar virtuoso who has a tremendous music vocabulary of jazz, blues and rock. “Pure” is to be congratulated as an album which seamlessly blends a soulful west coast vibe with bluesy hard rock. On top, “Pure” features exceptional guest musicians such as Nate Smith, Toss Panos, Shannon Forest and more.

Johnny Tucker and The Allstars ((Featuring Kid Ramos) - 75 And Alive

12. Gotta Do It One Time - 4:47

There are not that many seventy-plus original bluesmen, certainly few with the pipes of venerable Johnny Tucker who still has plenty left in the tank based on 75 And Alive, recorded on his 75th birthday in October of 2020.  For that special occasion Tucker’s manager Bob Auerbach wanted a much bigger sound than what they laid down on 2018’s acclaimed Seven Day Blues and so he recruited the renowned guitarist Kid Ramos, giving him in turn the reins to build a top shelf unit. Accordingly, pianist Sunny Leyland conspired with Ramos to tap the rhythm tandem of John Bazz on electric and standup bass, drummer Jason Lozano (son of Los Lobos bassist Conrad Lozano), saxophonist Ron Dziuba and harmonicist Bob Corritore. The primarily West Coast cast takes us through jump blues, some slow burners, and a few funky ones. The listener will likely be unable to discern one of the most remarkable things about this recording because these tunes were all written on the spot.  That’s right, Tucker makes up the lyrics as the band plays the tune, totally spontaneously. All were cut on the first or second take with Ramos establishing the groove and then having the band and Tucker take it from there. There’s a T-Bone Walker feel to the opening “All Night Long, All Night Wrong,’ moving immediately into the simmering “There’s A Time for Love.” Leyland’s pounding piano takes us down to Louisiana for the swamp pop of “If Your Ever Love Me” and it’s a direct trip to Chicago for the shuffle “Can’t You See,” with Corritore blowing a storm and trading verses with Ramos as Leyland pounds away. The guitarist presents a ballroom rhumba groove for Tucker to improvise over in “What’s the Matter,” gushing with joy over a night on the town and in the next sequence expressing regret in “Treat Me Good.” Texas blues comes with a nod to Albert Collins on the shuffle “Snowplow,” complete with a filthy Dziuba gutbucket tenor turn with Ramos in full flight. Similarly, Ramos does the same for Earl Hooker in “Hookline.” In between it’s Leyland who gets the spotlight with his boogie woogie piano in “What’s On My Mind.” We’re still in Texas for “Dance Like I Should” where Ramos takes the slide and Corritore playfully spars with him. “Have A Good Time Tonight” essentially mimics Buddy Guy, though it’s all in fun. The session concludes with the rousing horn-driven soul of “Gotta Do It One Time” with Tucker emitting a primal scream of joy midway through as the band is totally locked in, seemingly wanting to further extend this summit of blues greats. What a terrific way to celebrate birthday number 75! ~Jim Hynes~

Tony Stevens was the original bass player for Foghat, a breakaway from British blues rock band Savoy Brown that infused blues boogie with a metal sound taking it at one point to be the biggest grossing UK act working the US circuit with some 30m album sales. For Slow Ride, he recruited former Foghat drummer Eddie Zyne (since sadly deceased, the band now with Eddie’s friend Dave Webster on the stool); Tommy Hall on guitar, keyboards, harmonica, and vocals; and former Clarence Clemons Temple Of Soul and The Livesays frontman Billy Livesay (slide guitar, lead vocals). The recorded outcome immediately brings to mind the work of Brits Bad Company, Thin Lizzy,  Nazareth, and the US’s Edgar Winter and early Aerosmith; and, of course, Foghat itself. Stevens sought to expand the reach of the Foghat sound commercially and ‘Re-Vamped’, augmented with some of Tony’s solo material, achieves this forging tight and intense, rhythm based rock front-ended by pristine guitar listener-friendly vocals. With Joss Stone’s Steve Gordon on production duties pushing for reach, the listening experience is enriching and exciting. Band compositions are augmented by unique versions of Bob Dylan’s “Subterranean Homesick Blues”, Tony’s hero Pete Townsend’s “Stand Together” and Willie Dixon’s “Hoochie Coochie Man” along with the song “Slow Ride”, written by Tony’s former Savoy Brown/Foghat bandmate, the late Dave Peverett.

The band remained in Europe until 2020 gaining growing audiences and glowing reviews... “The list of great Australian rock bands is long and goes from A, as in AC/DC, through C, as in Cold Chisel, and R, as in Rose Tattoo, to V as in Vdelli.” (Musix Magazine, Germany).Back in Australia due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they used the time to get creative and smash out what clearly is their most impressively diverse studio album to date. The release of the 2021 album “NOW”, is the culmination of years on the stage, in the studio and on the road - and it shows. Self released in 2013, "Elkhart County Jail" was the first full length album from Indy's TOEKNEE TEA. First making waves with his debut EP, "Dissapointing Noises" back in 2012, TOEKNEE TEA took his one man band Blues jams to the next level with this full length the following year. As good as the EP was, "Elkhart County Jail" sees growth in all aspects, from the performance to the songwriting to the recording itself. The album features only one song that was rerecorded from the EP, that being "Rivercrest Dr". The album is largely in the realm of dirty, Stomp and Shout style Blues but TOEKNEE TEA can step into other territory mixing elements of other American Roots music genres together for maximum impact.

Robert Noll was the highly-regarded second guitarist with Albert Collins in the mid-1980s. He followed that with a stint with Big Twist and the Mellow Fellows before returning to his hometown of Detroit and becoming big man on campus for a while. He then dropped under the radar to clean up some personal demons and dedicate himself to teaching for a few years. He’s re-emerged from a period of under-activity and fans are celebrating. Detroit’s No Cover Productions label, which has 80+ Detroit titles on its roster, has added five from Noll, including a pair of re-issues from early in Noll’s post-Collins career. The re-issued 1989 debut disc, Robert Noll Blues Mission, with insightful and extensive notes from Noll, is a dazzling guitar extravaganza. Here are Albert Collins references galore (including a wonderful take on “Deep Freeze”) and guitar licks that put him in the company of the finest players in the land. Given his years on the road as second guitarist to Collins those influences would be difficult to get around. There are also bits of SRV, Albert King, Hendrix, and Johnny Winter, sometimes in the same tune. The Sun Messengers Horns guest behind a rockin’ rhythm team of Eddie Harsch (piano, synth), Will Leonard (drums) and Tom MacGuigan (bass). Other guest players include the spectacular harpin’ of Kenny Welk and B-3 master Tom Cook. Noll’s bandmates from Albert Collins’ Icebreakers, bass master Johnny B. Gayden and the late drummer Soko Richardson, and the horns from Big Twist & the Mellow Fellows are also on board.Heavyweight session mates aside, this is unquestionably all about Robert Noll. The guitar work is always exemplary, and often transcendent. “Fade My Blues” is the chill-generating centerpiece. “Past Due for a Whuppin’” and “Everybody Wants to Go To Heaven” are also standouts in a program that impresses from beginning to end. Happy Bluesday first saw the light of day in 1995. The recording band was Jim Noel on various keys, Will Leonard at the drums, and Lonnie Motley holding down the bass. Greasy Carlisi (bass), Mark Stevens (drums), and Peter Madcat Ruth (harp) sat in, as did Fred Reif (washboard) and Henry Weck (cymbals and cowbells). Nikki James and Brandy Ruble add their sassy vocals to “Cold Women With Warm Hearts.” The title cut is a rocker, “Dear Friend,” a pensive reminiscence, and “Mountain Top,” a gospel-inspired instrumental tune that Noll wrote based on a line from the Rev. Martin Luther King. Jr. Tributes to the Alberts – Collins (“Freezer Burn”) and King (“I Got the Blues” and exquisite takes on “I’ll Play the Blues For You” and “As the Years Go Passin’ By”) and a first rate cover of Freddie King’s “Love Her With A Feeling” are standouts. “Jenie” may be the real standout number on the disc, melding all of Noll’s influences, including Stevie Ray Vaughan. Noel’s keyboard work matches Noll’s elastic guitar lines beautifully. Live Retrospect Volume 1, recorded in 1992 and 1993, is a slice of the energy generated by Noll and his impressive Blues Mission — bassist Lonnie Motley (later with George Clinton and Chaka Khan), soulful keyboardist Jim Noel, and longtime Noll pal and drummer Mark Stevens. The heart of this disc is the medley of “You Was Wrong”/”Mountain Top.” Noll raps/testifies (ala Albert King) about what the real blues are — hungry and abused children and the homeless — and unleashes some of the most soulful and expressive guitar work this writer has ever heard. As hard an act as this is to follow, he does so admirably with an extensive “Mission Boogie,” a mishmash of styles from ZZ Top to Savoy Brown to Hendrix and Jeff Beck. As he says in the liners, he has been known to stretch a tune out. This 11-minute gem is proof that there is always a reward for the listener when he does so, as Noll just shreds here. There is also an impressive take on the Jeff Beck version of Freddie King’s “Goin’ Down” to recommend the disc. Live Retrospect Volume 2, recorded in 1991 in a power trio format of Noll with drummer Skeeto and bassist Tom McGuigan, is comprised almost exclusively of music from the classic canon. Muddy Waters and Stevie Ray are represented here and Noll’s deftness at any style is evident throughout. “The Sky Is Crying” is given the finest treatment this writer has heard this side of Vaughan’s and on “For the Love of a Woman,” he offers fuzz leads that remind of Cream-era Clapton. “New Bad Attitude,” the only original here, has an infectious shuffle that’s loaded with ‘tude, and his take on Albert Collin’s “Flatt Tire” is a funky instrumental groover on which he cuts loose. Influences were strong throughout the live dates, but the chops were never in doubt. These are no mere “covers” in Noll’s hands. He claims them for his own and proves himself as astute a student as he is an adept performer.  Dear Friend, from Ronnie Lee Noll, represents the latest recorded work from the guitarist and vocalist. The title tune has been part of his repertoire for 20 years and reaffirms his faith in those who make up his expansive inner circle of friends. The acoustic work performed by Noll over-tracked on rhythm and lead acoustic guitars was recorded live at Lenny’s Coffee Gallery in Eastpointe and at the No Cover studios.Carl Caballero blows harp on some tunes, though this is otherwise a solo set and is split between impressive originals and classics. “Somebody Got the Blues Worse Than You” and the superb Taj Mahal-style “Move On, I’m Out of Here” are the standouts of the original tunes, and his interpretation of Mississippi John Hurt’s “Slidin’ Delta,” here called “Side In Delta,” is wonderful, as is his medley of “Trouble In Mind/Key To The Highway.” The closing version of “Jesus Loves Me” would make Gary Davis smile.

With The King Bees on board, Chicago Bob Nelson creates an amalgam of Louisiana Swamp and Windy City Blues with a matchless sound that is full of the driving energy of both genres and is truly all his own. Chicago Bob Nelson performs blues the way it was meant to be - authentic and from the heart. He sings without any annoying mannerisms, suggesting James Cotton at times and The King Bees provide restrained, solid, backing. “Rock The Blues,” shows Chicago Bob Nelson to be a genial, engaging blues performer who is featured on this very entertaining release with a number of very strong performances.

13. Runnin' With The Blues - 2:46
14. Lookin' For My Baby - 3:29
15. Blues In A Dream - 3:06

Solid writing in the blues vein with a touch of rockabilly. There are a couple of standouts here. Charge It (Jerry's only vocal on the album) is a real-life story that could be about thousands of bluesmen from the 80s on. It's a classic blues. Home Run Hitter works the double entendre to the maximum in an up-tempo number that is hard to get out of your head once you hear it. Poison Kisses has a swampy feel that features the master Duke Robillard. Portnoy featured in the Muddy Waters band for 6 years and is also on Clapton’s deepest blues album Up From the Cradle. This is a master of the harmonica. Other players seek him out to find out which microphone and amplifier he uses to get that classic blues sound. He’s recognized as a master teacher. While the blues has always focused on band leaders it is people like Portnoy who have completed the classic sound that makes the blues so recognizable. Home Run Hitter (an update of his original recording Poison Kisses) is his best realized work as a leader, harmonica master and songwriter.

Billylee Janey - Gimme Some Lightnin' CD. Iowa's legendary rock guitarist! This time around, it's a full throttle non-stop barrage of down and dirty smoldering heavy blues rock guitar licks that just keep coming at you from start to finish. It's almost like one long heavy guitar jam session where Janey just cuts loose at will. Janey’s mean and nasty tone and signature axe-slingin style are totally electrifying here. And as with all of Janey's solo albums, it's not just the guitar playing that stands out but also the great catchy classic rock and blues songs as well. This could very well be his strongest solo album yet! Another keeper my friends! ... Blues My Soul!! Roll Baby Roll!!

Chicago guitarist Jimmy Dawkins would have preferred to leave his longtime nickname "Fast Fingers" behind. It was always something of a stylistic misnomer anyway; Dawkins' West Side-styled guitar slashed and surged, but seldom burned with incendiary speed. Dawkins' blues were generally of the brooding, introspective variety -- he didn't engage in flashy pyrotechnics or outrageous showmanship.
It took a long time for Dawkins to progress from West Side fixture to nationally known recording artist. He rode a Greyhound bus out of Mississippi in 1955, dressing warmly to ward off the Windy City's infamous chill factor. Only trouble was, he arrived on a sweltering July day! Harpist Billy Boy Arnold offered the newcomer encouragement, and he eventually carved out a niche on the competitive West Side scene (his peers included Magic Sam and Luther Allison). Sam introduced Dawkins to Delmark Records boss Bob Koester. Fast Fingers, Dawkins' 1969 debut LP for Delmark -- which remained his best album -- was a taut, uncompromising piece of work that won the Grand Prix du Disque de Jazz from the Hot Club of France in 1971 as the year's top album. Andrew "Big Voice" Odom shared the singing and Otis Rush the second guitar duties on Dawkins' 1971 encore, All for Business. But after his Delmark LP Blisterstring, Dawkins' subsequent recordings lacked intensity until 1991's oddly titled Kant Sheck Dees Bluze for Chicago's Earwig Records. After that, Dawkins waxed discs for Ichiban and Fedora, and continued to tour extensively until health problems slowed him down. Jimmy Dawkins passed away April 10, 2013.

Big Chico - Feel The Blues

Bitrate: 320K/s
Year: 2016
Time: 32:33
Size: 75,6 MB
Label: Self Released
Styles: Blues/Harmonica Blues

Tracks Listing:
 1. Every Day I Have The Blues - 3:36

 6. I Need So Bad - 3:02
 7. Search Me Lord - 3:12
 8. God Can Use You - 2:21
 9. Done Got Old - 3:26
10. Blues For Little Walter - 2:08

After a successful tour of Argentina, singer, guitarist and harmonica player Big Chico launched his first solo CD of blues. "Feel The Blues" has a vintage and rootsy sould with great appeal. There are 10 songs and 2 are new. This CD verifies the strength of Big Chico's solo career. The recording feels loose and natural, and the playing is definitely passionate. The blues is a growing form of music in Brazil and "Feel The Blues" supports that claim. For those who like it lean and clean.

10. Runnin' With The Blues - 2:46
11. Lookin' For My Baby - 3:29
12. Blues In A Dream - 3:05

Jerry Portnoy's debut album, Poison Kisses, is a fine set of rollicking Chicago blues. Portnoy is at his best when he is blowing away on the harp, and there's no exception to the rule here -- the whole album can fall apart when he's simply singing, but when he's playing the harp, the music catches fire. Worthwhile for harmonica fans.

The Hard Swimmin' Fish - True Believer

Bitrate: 320K/s
Year: 2016
Time: 49:50
Size: 114,3 MB
Label: Self Released
Styles: Blues/Blues Rock/Rock
Art: Front

Tracks Listing:
 1. True Believer - 4:56
 2. Five Years Hard Labor - 3:39
 3. No Shortage of the Blues - 4:17
 4. Howlin' for My Darlin' - 3:38
 5. Ooh, That Was Close - 3:50
 6. Love Me or You Don't - 5:06
 7. Come Together - 3:46
 8. Need Your Love So Bad - 4:43
 9. Get Gone - 3:44
10. Once Upon a Time - 3:14
11. Mess Around - 3:15
12. Don't Let the Devil Ride - 5:36

Opening with title track, True Believer, Demian Lewis is on guitar creating a real dirty sound that has a great groove. A swampy bluesy track that really hits on the spot supported by Waverly Milor on vocal and harp, Jason Walker on drums, Randy Ball on bass and John Sharrer on organ. On funky, Five Years Hard Labor, HSF produces a raw sound with a lot of grit. A rocky kind of sound...I really like it! No Shortage Of The Blues is a nice blues rocker with an almost Steppenwolf swagger and caressed by harp. Lewis plays flashy but unassuming solos and Ball's bass work it tight. Howlin' Wolf's Howlin' For My Darlin' has just a touch more rock than the Wolf version, complimented by a rock beat by Walker and guitar riffs by Lewis. Cool! Ooh, That Was Close has a rockabilly jazz feel with fluid but dirty guitar riffs. On Love Me Or You Don't, Lewis gets a real nice roll going on guitar with an almost Stevie Ray sound but with less flash. Interesting and effective. On country trek, Come Together, the track is a bit more freewheelin' and Lewis' slide style shows influence by Johnny Winter. Very cool. Need Your Love So Bad is a classic blues number and done in classic style, stripped down with solid bass work by Ball and soothing organ work by Sharrer under the soulful vocals of Milor. Lewis takes a real nice guitar solo on this track giving the track a nice edge. Get Gone has an interesting feel with light rim shots by Walker and Milor on harp. With a bass solo interlude this track glides along and Lewis' guitar solo is smooth. Very nice! Easy rocker, Once Upon A Time, gives Lewis the mic with almost spoken lyrics and Lewis and Milor trading riffs. Interesting. Up tempo blues, Mess Around, maintains much of it's original structure with nimble fingered guitar riffs and lively vocals. Milor's harp work is classic blues work giving this track solid blues footing. Wrapping the release is Don't Let The Devil Ride with nice acoustic bass work under a lead vocal. Rocking out, the track has a cool back beat and understated slide work giving the track a cool feel. Milor's harp work with more pronounced slide work in the solo interlude says it all. This is a cool, understated release with a lot to offer. Check it out.

Willem Maker - New Moon Hand

Bitrate: 320K/s

 9. Old Pirate's Song - 2:36
10. Lead & Mercury - 6:03
11. Hard To Hold - 4:40
12. Rosalie - 5:43

The opening 30 seconds of this album's first track sets up a tone that it replicates for the next 50 minutes. The ghostly, stomping beat and skeletal guitar are gradually joined by Willem Maker's gruff, Waylon Jennings-styled voice, rumbling about life's heavy load. It's a dark, ominous, but not depressing sound that amps up with growling electric guitars on the second track as Maker's lowdown groove thickens. There's an ornery and bluesy thread, somewhat similar to that of R.L. Burnside and his fellow Deep Southern contemporaries, that cuts like a jagged rusty blade. Credit Bo-Keys member Scott Bomar, a veteran who has worked with the similarly styled Jack-O, for production and mixing that keep the sound dangerous yet not as primitive as it might be in less skilled hands. There's also a Tom Waits vibe that runs through the set, especially when Maker strips down to stark piano on the broken "Saints Weep Wine." He's accompanied by sympathetic musicians who include Alvin Youngblood Hart, Cedric Burnside, and the legendary Jim Dickinson, but the album's notes do not delineate who plays on which track, a frustrating omission. Maker stays in his buzzing swamp mode throughout, rocking out like ZZ Top after a long night on the stuttering, driving "Old Pirate's Song," followed by the blustery "Lead and Mercury." The latter is an angry autobiographical song about his near fatal poisoning from the titular toxic elements he inhaled as a young adult because of a tainted environment. Not surprisingly, it's as raw and infected as it sounds, with what seems like Hart's hurricane of a guitar solo twisting with portentous electric piano as Maker spits out irate lyrics such as "stole my youth" for six minutes of intensity that will leave the listener shaking. The ethereal, churchlike ballad "Rosalie" closes out the disc, tearing the sound down to just organ and floating, near free-form guitar. It maintains the menacing mood yet softens the blow as Maker strums in a minor key, stumbling and staggering in the creepy introspective shadows he creates.

If you know the guitar, you might notice that Ferguson has his on "upside-down," with the low sounds coming from the bottom string. That is because Ferguson is a studied but self-taught guitar player. Nobody told him he had the guitar the wrong way around, and by the time they did, he was too good to go to the trouble to change. "I played as a three-year old," Cool John explains. "To hold the guitar, I had to be put in someone's lap while they sat in a chair. I played sing notes on Just a Closer Walk With Thee, my first song. Later on, fooling around with it, I learned to play the lead, bass, and rhythm parts at the same time." Ferguson was born in December 1953 on St. Helena's Island, one of the Sea Islands of South Carolina. He has been playing the guitar since he was three. When he turned five, he started performing in his family's Pentecostal church. You can hear some of that gospel flavor in his playing, as well as a lot of traditional African music mixed with the field and spiritual music. A lot of Ferguson's people came out of the Gullah tradition, with roots in Western Africa, hard work and a hard life on the plantations, and worship in praise houses. He was the featured entertainer for Lowcountry Sing on Channel 5 in Charleston, SC, for three years, appearing with the gospel trio the Ferguson Sisters. In the beginning, it was hard for Ferguson to play anything but gospel music. His parents thought music should only be used to praise God, and while Ferguson believes that is true, he also trusts that all the music he played was praise. In the late '60s, Earl Davis moved to Beaufort, SC, where he was the chorus and band director at Beaufort High School. He had come out of the Army band at the same time Wayne Shorter was doing his service. Davis had an R&B band and, whenever he could, Ferguson would join Davis to play gigs at juke joints, military clubs, Elks and VFW clubs, and anywhere they could perform. Ferguson has been active on tent revival circuits, played with LaFace Records of Atlanta, GA, and collaborated with several well-known artists including Taj Mahal, Kenny Wayne Shepard, BB King, the Stylistics, Beverly Guitar Watkins, Captain Luke, and others. Ferguson has been honored by Living Blues Magazine for two consecutive years as "Most Outstanding Guitarist." He started doing tours of blues festivals and clubs around the world including Lincoln Center Out-Of-Doors, Lucerne Blues Festival, and Switzerland's Blues to Bop Festival, Australia's Byron Bay Blues Festival, Word of Mouth, the Savannah Music Festival, Columbia Blues Festival, and many others throughout the world. He has kept his feet in the juke joint tradition, playing a whole lot of Saturday nights at All Peoples Grill in north Durham, NC, and other clubs in North Carolina, South Carolina, and surrounding states. Taj Mahal stated that Ferguson ranks "among the five greatest guitarists in the world. He is a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. He is with the ranks of Jimi Hendrix, Wes Montgomery, and Django Reinhart." Give him a listen and decide for yourself!

An amalgamation of blues and Southern rock, the Beat Daddys are comprised of Lewis Ross (drums), Brill Morris (bass and vocals), Larry Grisham (guitar, harp and vocals), and Britt Meacham (guitar and vocals). Meacham, from Mobile, Alabama, was a member of Jackson Highway, a group that recorded for Capitol Records, and also toured with soul-blues man Little Milton Campbell. Bassist Morris was part of Mercury Records' David and the Giants and performed in a popular regional Gulf Coast band, Magik. Drummer Ross, also from Mobile, was a founding member of Wet Willie, and he was involved in co-writing the band's hits "Keep on Smilin'," "Red Hot Chicken" and "Macon Hambone Blues." The Beat Daddys formed in Evansville, Indiana in the mid-1980s and released their own self-produced album before signing with Malaco Records. Their two mid-1990s Malaco/Waldoxy releases, No, We Ain't From Clarksdale and South to Mississippi, are not straight-ahead blues, to be sure, but fans of blues, roots-rock and Southern rock can find much to appreciate in either of them.

"Hurricane was formed in Atlanta, GA. in 1979. Changed the name of the band , in '87, to The Bobaloos due to copyright problems. Played clubs in the Southeast for five years building fan support. They headlined in 1,000 seat halls and have opened for .38 Special, Greg Allman, Scorpions, Johnny Winters, Molly Hatchett, Robin Trower, and others. This album is high-energy rock'n roll at its best. Vocalist Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple/Trapeze) sings lead on most of the songs and performs an exhilerating feat. The album is put together by Frank Fabiszewski(aka Frankie Day) who is an original Bobaloo that produced, wrote and played lead and rhythm guitar for the record. Frank brought in his Bobaloo friends Marty Fabiszewski(Cactus/Wolfe), Boonie Maroonie(Hurricane), Chis Lewis(Magic Cat/Purple Mushroom), Bobby Mobley, Michael Bastedo, Bobby Williams, Robin Floyd, Christie Vaughn, Tony Vaughn, TV Strain and Billy Anderson. A highlight of the album is the perfomances of Billy Powell(Lynyrd Skynyrd) and Howard Leese(Heart/Paul Rogers Band). The album was mixed by
heavywieghts Brendan O'brien and Rodney Mills. Hear it to believe it."

Two decades and six albums into their career, the Beat Daddys, who are singer/songwriter/rhythm guitarist/harmonica player Larry Grisham, lead guitarist Britt Meacham and a changing rhythm section (here, for the most part, bassist Barry Bays and either Paul Scott or David Parks on drums), remain a Southern blues-rock outfit whose métier is the roadhouse rather than the recording studio. That's not to say there's anything wrong with their records. Although self-released, 5 Moons is a well-recorded effort that shows off Grisham's grainy baritone and Meacham's stinging guitar work on a set of traditional-sounding originals. But for a band like this, the perfect environment is a sweaty club, a side table, and a cold brewski close at hand. In such an environment, the Beat Daddys can evoke their better known predecessors, such as the Allman Brothers Band, the Marshall Tucker Band, and the Fabulous Thunderbirds, in songs that sound like you've heard them before the first time you hear them (because, in essence, you have), and nobody's going to mind. On disc, the discerning listener is going to examine those songs more closely as songs and find them, while sturdy vehicles for Grisham's emoting and Meacham's playing, nevertheless not up to the standard of the performers the Beat Daddys are emulating. Grisham may lament romantic disappointment ("Pale White Circle" refers to a spot on a woman's finger after she has removed a ring), declare his preferences in female attributes ("Big Thighs"), or simply reveal that "Everybody Needs Some" blues, and, on tracks that average just under five minutes in length, Meacham is given plenty of room to wail like Duane Allman or Johnny Winter or Stevie Ray Vaughan. But the Beat Daddys' albums remain souvenirs of Saturday nights to be popped in the CD player of the pickup on the way home, rather than memorable musical statements in their own right.(https://www.allmusic.com/album/5-moons-mw0001104668)

Based in Leicester, UK for over thirty years, Dawson Smith is originally from Abertillery, South Wales and has a well earned reputation for fronting great bands and rocking venues all over the UK and beyond. Dawson first made his name as the frontman / songwriter of blues rockers The Healers (’90s). Following The Healers split, Dawson recorded two successful solo albums. Valley Boy (2002) and The River Road (2005). Loads of gigging followed, playing with a flexible band line up. In 2005 Dawson put together THE DISSENTERS with the intention of forming his dream ‘road band’ able to deliver the type of driving swamp blues and rootsy Americana bar room rock & roll that has always been the backdrop to Dawson’s distinctive songs.
Dawson's breakthrough album was Took The Night, released in 2011. Took The Night was picked up by Proper Music for full national distribution and sold well following glowing reviews and extensive airplay and lots of gigs and festival shows. The follow up album in 2016 was The Mileage carried on the musical progression and opened up opportunities for shows on the more established gig and festival circuit including appearences at The National R&B Festival at Colne,The HRH Crows at Sheffield O2, Upton Blues Fest, Abertillery Blues Fest (Dawson's home town). The Mileage recieved glowing reviews and lots of airplay and a video for the song Going Down attracted large viewing figures.2019 was another big year for Dawson & The Dissenters.Loads of gigs and some profile festivals including

The band is sounding fresh and ready to rock and the new songs are sounding great. Forget 2020 and lets rock on! See you on the road!

13. Stampede - 2:16

The Tailgators were a great roots rock band from Austin.  The band has put out some great music on all of their cd's. But this is the one that I can consider their masterpiece. If you love great guitar playing, Don Leady is one of the most underrated players in Texas. He cooks with a biting guitar on every note of this cd, and it never let's up. A great mix of surf, like the title tune Surf's Up to some of the best roots rock that I've ever heard like Look Up and Feel Like I'm Falling, to some outright killer instrumentals like Ride Of The Ruthless, Dust Devil & Blue Northern. He even throws in a unique version of the blast from the past 60's classic Psychotic Reaction. If you are into great guitar albums, I promise you'll be hooked from the first note. Don and the boys rock. Thanks for all of the great music over the years. Especially for this classic!

Lance Keltner began playing guitar at age 10. By the age of 12 he was rocking the music scene in Oklahoma and Texas to packed houses fronting his own band. There was never any doubt that Lance would pursue a career in music. At age 19, Keltner moved to Austin, Texas where he quickly became an important part of the up-and-coming rock scene.
Keltner had grown up on the blues, and was now transmitting those blues riffs he had learned as a young boy through several 100 watt Marshall Stacks, and opening shows for everyone from Joe Satriani, to Eric Johnson, and the Allman Brothers.
The 1990′s proved to be a busy time for Keltner, his credits including: touring the US with his self-titled band, and working as a guitarist and musical director for several artists (Tim Karr EMI, Phil Lewis of LA Guns, and Mike Tramp, and more).
Two notable records were released during that time, the critically acclaimed self-titled album on East/West Atlantic records, and the Provogue records “Empty V”, a rock/blues album produced by legendary music producer Andy Johns (of Led Zeppelin, Bad Company, and Van Halen fame).
The year 2000 brought with it more touring, this time to include Europe. Keltner performed at festival shows in Germany, even performing at the Tegelen Blues Rock Festival in the Netherlands.
More recording followed, in 2001, with the release of “Last of the Cowboy Vampires”, also produced by Andy Johns. This record includes some straight up rock, some dark ambient tones, and even ventures into blues/gospel territory. Adding to the strength of the recording, superstars Eric Johnson and David Grissom were guests on the album.
2001 brought international fame for Keltner, when he performed with Rod Stewart, and was included in the accompanying music video. Becoming a regular touring fixture in Europe, Lance Keltner and Cowboy Vampires headlined in Berlin, Luxembourg, and the world famous Leverkusen festival televised to 20 million music fans in Europe.
Two new records and new tours for Lance Keltner and Cowboy Vampires followed in 2002. The first new album was simply titled “Lance Keltner and Cowboy Vampires” was released by Ulftone records in Germany and the Benelux territories in Europe.
The Album was produced and engineered by bandmate and former Billy Idol guitarist Mark Younger-Smith. The second was a self-titled album released by Ulftone.
Keltner’s next project, with band name Simranking, included high-profile band mates Carmine Rojas (David Bowie and Rod Stewart) on bass, and Tal Bergman (Tower Of Power, Billy Idol). The new musical direction took Delta Resonator guitar music and melded it with World Music rhythms and melodies.
Lance has played guitar on several national TV commercials, as well as writing and recording all of the guitar tracks for the Big Buck Hunter video game. He has also recently broken new ground in the world of product demos of high-end musical equipment, successfully demonstrating some of the top guitar gear on YouTube. Lance also took time out last year to play on the Memphis Blues Album of the Yearwith Johnny Rawls, and continues to write new material for an upcoming record.
Keltner’s latest project is the creation and development of guitar products for his new company, Retro Channel. Lance has taken his years of guitar tone experience to help craft an amazing sounding, light weight amp that is flexible and produces tones of much more expensive boutique amps at a fraction of the cost: introducing the RR1 Amp, the first of a continuously evolving product line, with a mission to exceed the customer’s tonal expectations at every turn.
