Damon Fowler - Guitar & Lap Steel;
Neal Goree - Guitar;
Brett Crook - Drums.

When I went to listen to the album ‘The Sauce’ by the musician with the unimaginative name Sauce Boss, I also looked at some photos and album covers. General impression: a bit of a lame gimmick: a musician dressed/disguised as a chef and album and song titles that regularly refer to food, spicy food mostly. Listening to the tracks on ‘The Sauce’ I had to adjust my first impression. Both musically and in terms of ‘ideology’. On ‘The Sauce’ there are some nice, fat rhythm ‘n blues numbers (Little Rhythm and Blues, Stop Breaking Down and I Will Play For Gumbo) and a few blues numbers that sound like they were played by Bill Wharton’s one-man band, aka Sauce Boss (Down By The Sea, Don’t Know How to Tell You, Delta 9 Blues and Space Ocean). On Delta 9 Blues, the Boss is sitting on the beach smoking a joint. On Down By The Sea he plays solo, on his National Steel guitar from 1933. The choice for covers of The Word (Lennon/McCartney) is striking, and especially Gloria (Van Morrison) is not something you often come across as a cover. Interesting, therefore. Even more interesting is Bill Wharton’s way of working and the way in which this approach gives shape to his social involvement. Over the years, he has provided meals - usually gumbo - and performed for his guests at hundreds of locations, such as food banks and shelters for people in need. Wharton: “It’s what I do. I cook a pot of gumbo and I feed the audience, while splooging my hot sauce into the pot”. Wharton has founded an organization (Planet Gumbo) to formalize his idealism (also for tax purposes).
Words and music: Bill Wharton, except:
The Word (Lennon/McCartney)
Stop Breaking Down (Robert Johnson),
I Will Play For Gumbo (Jimmy Buffett)
Gloria (Van Morrison)
In short: Bill Wharton has his heart in the right place with his music and his meals. Hats off, Sauce Boss!

Joe Zaklan - There Ain't No Better Time

Bitrate:320K/s

 1. Thin Ice - 4:23
 2. Chicken Bone - 3:03
 3. There Ain't No Better Time - 3:44
 4. Chump Change - 3:28
 5. Get Ready - 3:38
 6. Quiet As Kept - 5:23
 7. She's Got Her Baby On Her Mind - 3:09
 8. Warning Signs - 4:33
 9. Drowning On Dry Land - 3:58
10. Tonight - 4:03

When blues artists record albums or perform live concerts, they exude innate energy. It can be soulful, sly, edgy, funny, and in Joe Zaklan’s case, relaxingly good-natured. Zaklan’s education started in earnest at age twenty when he hit the road with J.B. Hutto, gigging with the slide master in the blues haunts of Minneapolis, Milwaukee and Madison. This talented guitarist, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist “sideman,” who was once a member of the Chicago blues scene of the 1970s and 80s playing alongside Lonnie Brooks and Little Mac Simmons, has made his solo debut. As for the result, “There Ain’t No Better Time” to listen to it! Eight well-crafted original songs and two covers (“Get Ready” and “Tonight”) compose Zaklan’s fresh(man) offering, and Jon Norton of radio station WGLT in Normal, Illinois says, “...his warm and confident voice is a pleasant surprise. ...it’s taken a long time” to get this CD into listeners’ hands. Nevertheless, blues fans everywhere will be glad it’s here, especially when they hit the jackpot with these three numbers:
Track 2: “Chicken Bone”--More aptly classified as jumping blues, this snappy ballad tells the tale of a harried employee who’s looking forward to “another kamikaze weekend”: “I drove all day and, man, you know I worked all night. The boss man told me, ‘Son, you ain’t done a damn thing right.’ I’ve got some money in my pocket and I’m on my way home--you know it’s on - like a chicken bone!” Some might find that turn of phrase strange, but not Jim Curless’ swinging sax working solos alternately with Zaklan’s smoking guitar! This song is the perfect antidote to a woeful work week, or even a cruel commute.
Track 3: “Ain’t No Better Time”—Those of histrionic vocals (and perhaps rappers in particular) could certainly take some pointers from Joe Zaklan if they want to initiate musical seduction. In this gentle masterpiece of slow blues, Joe sways his lover to “see things my way” without profanity, crudity, or misogyny. Joe simply points out, “There ain’t no better time than there is right now!” The title track of Zaklan’s CD represents a refreshing accomplishment in blues music, and this reviewer welcomes the change. Ed Pierce plays atmospheric second guitar on this romance-inducing enticement.
Track 6: “Quiet as Kept”--The title of this mid-tempo rhythm-and-blues serenade is a lyrical oddity, but rest assured that the song is a winner! Garard Montague guest stars on sultry saxophone as Joe vividly describes his lady’s love: “Just like an old leather jacket--you know, the kind that’s really broken in--it’s just like snuggling in my baby’s arms, when outside I hear the howling wind…” The imagery is cozy, and “Quiet as Kept” will wrap listeners’ ears in its warm and positive embrace! They’ll wrap their arms around their partners on the dance floor, too.
Joe Zaklan, according to Jon Norton’s liner notes, was “smack dab in the middle of the Chicago blues scene of the 1970’s. He was in the house band at the venerable Pepper’s Lounge...” making his blues pedigree notable. The “talented sideman” has now become the “Front Man” singing and playing wonderfully tasty guitar that never goes over the top. And, really, “There [just] Ain’t No Better Time” for it to happen!

Preacher Keen - Preachin' the Blues

10. Fixin' to Call - 2:53

Raised in oil country in West-Texas, Preacher Keen’s earliest musical influences came from the church----not the traditional organist and choir kind but the all out, over-the-top, hellfire and brimstone, emotionally charged hillbilly gospel kind served up in the fundamentalist churches attended by Keen’s family. A trip with his mother to a black Baptist church for an inter-denominational service when he was five years old exposed him to the soulful singing style of another branch of the gospel tree, and it made an indelible impression. As a teenager he was bombarded with the ubiquitous country and top forty that was played on the local radio stations in Odessa, his hometown. A college friend in Lubbock turned him onto a record by Buddy Guy and Junior Wells and he quickly developed a passion for the blues. The rock songs of his earlier playing days quickly made way for more blues on the set list. Keen moved from Lubbock to Ft.Worth and on to Austin searching for experience and musical opportunity. In 1987 he began using Preacher as his performing name as a way of acknowledging his musical heritage from the church, but clubs, not churches were his primary venues. His new band, the Prodigal Sons fulfilled his dream of having a band that emphasized classic blues and original material. His first recording, “20th Century Man”, recorded in Dallas, was a roots rock record. The song “All Good Criminals” became a video and received international exposure (especially the R rated version shown on the Playboy Channel!). The next record, recorded in Austin was “Preachin the Blues”. It was primarily a blues record and it generated more interest in the Texas born, blues-rockin, singer-songwriter. Now, with the new record “Heal Yourself (Or Die with the Blues)”, Keen’s first three records have covered the musical territory listed on his business card----blues, rhythm, and rock. Preacher Keen is busy stirring the pot of musical influences with a new band and winning converts at every show----just what you would expect of a soul man!

12. Let's Do It -  3:05
13. Tsunami Blues - 23:07

Attention, atypical group. The Saucers draw their blues from the Gulf of Mexico and more particularly from Louisiana. A repertoire comparable to a gumbo, a spicy mixture based on zydeco, rock'n'roll, funk, groove, cajun, swamp; all these musics that flooded the radios and fais dodos of the region in the 50's, all essentially focused on original compositions. Their credo, to make sure that each evening brings the public to dance and party, that they do not attend a concert but become one of the actors. Crowned with numerous distinctions since the creation of the combo in 1997, backing band for certain US headliners on European tour, present on most of the stages of the French blues circuit, the Saucers are still riding the wave of their remarkable last album "Crawfish Groove" (2010) while being in the preparatory phase of their 6th recording. Queralt Albinyana - When I Met The Blues

 9. My Baby She Loves Me - 3:37
10. I Wonder Why - 6:59
11. You Got To Know How - 3:35

Known as an actress in theater, musicals, and television, Albinyana has been a singer for over ten years. She offers a repertoire primarily focused on songs attributed to essential women in the history of blues: from iconic singers of the 1920s to contemporary blueswomen.A notable part of Queralt Albinyana's career is the lecture-concert El blues d’elles, with which she has traveled through half of Catalonia. As a singer, Albinyana possesses a direct style and a powerful voice. At Jamboree, the singer performs accompanied by an exceptional group of musicians: TotaBlues, Martin J. Merino, Hernan Fridman, and Roberto Olori. Some years ago, in the Blues Jam Session at Rocksound, I dared to sing for the first time in front of a lot of musicians I admire and I was very fightened. After these usual insecurities, I discovered, perhaps for the firt time in my life, that I could truly express myself singing the Blues. It seems that my voice fits the Blues when I feel free… From happiness I moved to enthusiasm, and I wanted to capture this new feeling in an album, so that I could start a new path next to acting. Tota (TotaBlues) eventually believed in this project, and as a music director he assembled the ideal band. This is how “When I met the Blues” was born. This work has been done with a lot of respect and love, and I hope it will be the beginning of a long life next to the Blues.

11. That Ain't Love - 6:03

Guitarist/songwriter/producer Josh Smith follows up on 2011’s highly received “I’m Going To Be Ready” CD with this powerhouse of a modern blues album. Recorded in California for Germany-based CrossCut Records, it features Smith on vocals and guitar, backed by Calvin Turner (bass), Charles Jones (Hammond B3, piano and clavinet), Dennis Hamm (Rhodes, Wurlitzer and clavinet) and B.J. Kemp and Monet Owens (background vocals). Harmonica wizard Kim Wilson makes a guest appearance on track four, “I’ve Always Been,” and large horn and string sections contribute to a warm, lush sound from beginning to end.
You might not be aware of Smith, but he’s a former child protege who deserves much wider attention than he’s received. This writer first became aware of him in the early 1990s. At 12, he began appearing with his father at pro jams near his home in Pembroke Pines, Florida, and then at the legendary Musicians Exchange in Fort Lauderdale, where he sat in with many of the best musicians in the world, including Matt “Guitar Murphy, Kenny Neal, Tinsley Ellis and Johnny Clyde Copeland. He was polite and somewhat shy, with long hair tucked under a Stevie Ray Vaughan-style flat-brimmed hat, but the moment he hit the strings, people began sitting up and paying attention. At the time, Jimmy Thackery described him as “being just three heartbeats away from being a true blues genius.”
By age 13, Smith was playing professionally as a member of the Rhino Cats, one of the most in-demand bands in South Florida. At 14, with he released his first CD, “Born Under a Blue Sign.” A second album, “Woodsheddin,” followed a year later. Many local awards followed, including an endorsement from Washburn Guitars when he was still in high school, where he was an honor student. Following graduation in 1997, he formed a new power trio, Josh Smith and the Frost, embarked on four national tours. His experience as a band leader forced him to work on his vocal skills. Powerful, but relaxed, they quickly became a match with his prowess on guitar. Within months, B.B. King invited him to serve as his opening act on a national tour.
Fifteen years and three CDs later, he’s a heavily tattooed, closely cropped married father of two who’s living in L.A. And if his latest effort wasn’t hitting the U.S. market so late in the year, it would definitely be drawing attention as one of the ten best modern blues albums of the year.
Smith wrote all eleven songs here – 10 vocals and one instrumental. The set opens with a slow blues and seering guitar, “Bad Side,” a wish never to cross the woman he loves because “there’s...something I don’t understand/How a woman so sweet and small/she can crush glass in the palm of her hand.” The next number, “Made For Me,” is a horn-driven, uptempo love song for the ages.
He follows with the title cut from the CD, “Don’t Give Up On Me,” a musician’s pledge of faithfulness to the good woman he’s left behind to go on the road: “Hanging over my head, I can’t leave it alone/The last thing I’d ever do, is break up my happy home.” Like many of the other tunes here, the overall sound swings in the manner of 1960s Bobby Blue Bland, but with a definite modern feel.“I’ve Always Been,” follows, delivering a parallel message of love and support, layered atop Wilson’s distinctive harp lines.
The disc takes a 180-degree turn on the next number, “That Ain’t Me,” the story of a man who takes in a down-and-out woman with nowhere to go. He shows her kindness, but she quickly turns on him. “You thought you’d found your fool/That you could bend to your needs/But oh baby, that ain’t me.” A hard-driving horn line opens “Letting You Go,” which works as a partner to the tune that precedes it, delivering the same message from another point of view. The horn section and keyboards are featured during the middle break.
“No One But Me” returns Smith to the positive side of romance in another uptempo number featuring brief, clean guitar lines. He credits his woman and thanks her for being the driving force in his life in “Carry Me Through.” The opening horn lines create a comfort zone as they mimick the feel of a ‘70s TV show opening theme. The only instrumental in the set – “Sneaky Jo Turner” – leads into “The Middle,” which is a love song of sorts to being a family man. “Here in the middle, it’s all the same/There ain’t no big ending/just the playing of the game.” The set concludes with “That Ain’t Love,” an uptempo, guitar-driven complaint about a woman who turns and runs without giving the singer a chance to ask her stay.
Unlike many teenage guitar wizards, who appear like supernovas then quickly disappear into the black hole of a mundane, working-world life, Smith continued mastering his craft. This rich, R&B flavored CD will serve him well as he takes his place in the upper levels of the blues stratosphere.

Mark “Bird” Stafford brings you greetings from north of the border! He may be from Canada, but his skill in U.S. blues - especially the harmonica - is especially solid. His latest release, “Live at the Delta,” proves it via eleven covers of songs by genre masters. As for “Bird” himself, he’s a key fixture on the Canadian blues scene, and has been since he got his start with Hock Walsh (Downchild Blues Band) in the mid ‘80’s at the Pine Tree jams. He‘s one of the most hardworking musicians on that scene today. “Live at the Delta” refers not to the famous area of Mississippi, but to the Delta Chelsea Hotel, at which this album was recorded. Accompanying him on July 19th, 2012 were Aaron Griggs and Fabio Parovel on guitar, drummer Tyler Burgess, and Dennis Pinhorn on upright bass. Even though none of the three tracks below is original, Stafford’s take on them is doubtlessly energetic:
Track 02: “Born Blind” - Sonny Boy Williamson composed this ballad of a diva who “brings eyesight to the blind” once the lights are low. In “Bird’s” hands, his harmonica soars, making his live audience and listeners at home sit up and pay attention. It’s also a classic example of Chicago blues, with a shuffling style that’s sometimes called “lump-de-lump.” Although it possesses a medium tempo, “Born Blind” is great for dancing as well.
Track 05: “Sloppy Drunk Blues” - Why does Jimmy Rogers want to become completely inebriated? He and Stafford share this rationale: “You start talking, but I’m drinking. You’re not talking about anything at all.” Jaunty guitar and howling harp characterize this number, which is a rebuttal of the ‘please drink responsibly’ messages in today’s advertisements for alcohol.
Track 07: “I Don’t Know” - When Mark sings Sonny Boy Williamson’s famous catchphrase mentioned in the title, he sounds like an irritated student who’s had it up to here with his teacher’s endless queries. Here, he can’t figure out where his lover is or “why she disappoint me so.” Bad news surely lies ahead, but for now, Bird is getting no answers - only a single annoying question. Aaron Griggs’ mid-song guitar solo is as hot as sriracha sauce!
In the liner notes to this CD, Stafford comments: “As I read through the credits, I realize that it is heavy on the ‘Greats of the Blues,’ and I am totally OK with that. After all, this is what I do, and this album is a slice of that.” With this said, “Live at the Delta” is worth a listen for his harp skills and foundational blues musicianship.

Twelve Bar Blues Band - The Blues Has Got Me

 8. Everyday I Have the Blues -  5:19

From the moment the band started in 2005 the Twelve Bar Blues Band, also known as 12BBB, was considered as THE surprise of the Dutch blues scene. As the band demonstrated their musical qualities already many times at national and international stages journalists and organizers made clear this band is not a surprise anymore . Everybody who saw and heard the band play consider 12BBB as the top in the Netherlands and beyond for sure.
Combing a wicked guitar and tasteful licks is not always an easy task; yet The Twelve Bar Blues Band does this very well. J.J. Sharp is a sensitive blues veteran whose voice sounds "whiskey-soaked" while remaining powerful to the point of turning heads. The grooving rhythm section lends to the sometimes haunting and always cookin' sound that this band lays down. From this writer's point of view, TBBB just sounds good! The use of slide and harp further enhance the emotion and power of these songs, which are mostly originals. This is true blues and sincere musicianship that one could listen to for hours.
12BBB mainly plays originals (!), real down to earth blues, written by supertandem Jan J. Scherpenzeel, alias J.J. Sharp (Lead Vocals&Harmonica) and Kees Dusink, (Lead&Slide guitar). They get their inspiration straight from the Chicagoblues.
Leaded by these guys the band impresses the audience and organizers with the high quality of their music and creation of the ultimate bluesfeel you only would expect to find in Chicago or New Orleans.
The 12BBB rhythm section is already worthwile to see playing on its own. Base player Patrick "Sideburn" Obrist, drummer “Wild” Marcel Bakker and rhythm guitarist Randy Pears together form the solid base of 12BBB. They are really experienced and able to play any traditional bluesstyle as a real peace of art. This is exactly where the blues-lover comes for, such a groove that may never end and where you won’t get out of. The First CD of the band “The Blues Has Got Me” that was released worldwide, by many blues radiostations was chosen as “Blues CD of the Month” and even as Blues CD of the year 2006.

I felt so comfortable in this swampy groove,” Musselwhite declared. Boo stated, “The Memphis Royal Brothers are a collective; you’ve got musicians from Royal and Stax; I mix it up with some young guys too. It’s making music, passing torches, and just good for the whole music community.”  This incredible combination resulted in an album for the ages, featuring songs that share a timeless tradition, performed by masterful musicians, and produced in a place that reflects one of the essential bloodlines of roots, blues, and rock and roll: Clarksdale, Mississippi.

Her second VizzTone release, ‘FREE,’ debuted on the Top Ten Billboard Blues Chart and nabbed a 2019 Blues Music Award for Best Emerging Artist album.
‘KINGDOM,’ the third studio album by Amanda Fish, was written over a six year gap and is heavily influenced by the events of the pandemic, riots, and government corruption, seen through the eyes of a new parent and frontline healthcare worker. A journey of faith, redemption, and hope against a backdrop of chaos and upheaval, KINGDOM returns time and again to its message of truth and love.KINGDOM features a core group of musicians including Terry Midkiff, Dom Knott, Dylan Farrell, Glen James, and Paul Niehaus IV, along with friends Mama Moo, Billie Baumann, Bob Walther, the audience of the Augusta Ramble chipping in on additional percussion and vocals, and guest performances by Billy Evanochko, Jeremiah Johnson, and Richard Rosenblatt, the album was recorded and mixed by Paul Niehaus IV at Blue Lotus Studio in St Louis, mastered by Chris Latham at Gorilla’s Nest in Nashville, and it features ten all-original new songs written and sung by Amanda with her trademark power and grace. The album’s first single, “Mockingbird” is about Operation Mockingbird, the CIA operation begun during the Cold War which sought to disseminate disinformation and propaganda through domestic American news media organizations to influence public opinion. The song alleges that while the Operation was said to have ended after Vietnam, the practice of waging psychological warfare through government/media collusion appears to be alive and well today.

13. Bad Decisions (feat.Eric Hughes) - 4:42
14. A Yankee Heading Home - 2:47

Mick Kolassa has been a blues fan most of his life – all kinds of blues. His previous albums have all contained a few subgenres of blues, but in this album, his 15th blues, he wanted to include as many as he could – the result is the aptly named ALL KINDS OF BLUES. The album opens with Thank You Memphis, which reflects not only that special Memphis Sound, but Mick’s appreciation for the place he has called home for the past few years. WHERE LOVE TAKES ME is a blues song in the tradition of Mississippi Electric Blues style, Dexter Allen’s guitar work on this track is special! DID YOU EVER WONDER is a New Orleans Style rhumba co-written by Mick and Doug MacLeod, who joins Mick on vocals. The Blues Rocker TOO OLD TO DIE YOUNG is Mick coming to terms with his latest birthday! HAPPY ENDINGS is one of Mick’s slow, minor key blues songs, but done in a jazz style, again with Dexter Allen on guitar. To be sure he covered as many styles as possible, Mick penned his first song about AI love, AMY IODINE. The band decided that this song is the first of a new subgenre: Post-Contemporary Acid Blues. Hang on, it’s different! YOU BUMPED ME AGAIN is a very funky song about repeated rejection, while DOES YOUR MAMA KNOW is a blues love song almost Rockabilly. EATING MY SOUL is a dark and brooding slow minor key blues. CAN’T SING NO BLUES TONIGHT is an acoustic blues tune, drawing heavily from old Delta Blues, that tells the story of a very sad experience for a fictional musician. THAT DON’T MEAN is a Chicago Blues style protest song and BAD DECISION, co-written by Mick and Eric Hughes is a country blues tune about a lonely man in a bar – with an interesting idea. The album closes with A YANKEE HEADING HOME, an Americana song explaining Mick’s decision to move back to Michigan after living in and around Memphis for over three decades. This album, produced by Jeff Jensen, is Mick’s 15th blues album. It displays and celebrates Mick’s love of the world of blues – in all its styles and all of its glory (https://endlessblues.com/mick-kolassa-all-kinds-of-blues/) !

The goal of Union Street Blues is to bring our listeners the best of original contemporary blues and beyond. We build our sound on a powerful rhythm section, creative and accomplished instrumentation, and solid vocal performances. Our original songs speak to today's contemporary listeners and the types of situations in which we all find ourselves today. We also cover selected songs from other artists but we never select songs to be nostalgic. Rather, we select them because they are great songs that we deliver with the same power and energy as our original music. Blues is our home base but we aren't shy about venturing into adjacent genres such as rock, funk, and jazz as long as it's great music that we enjoy playing. 'By Any Means Necessary' is our debut CD. It includes 12 great original songs about blues in the 21st century and embraces a number of blues styles -- from Jump to Chicago to Delta (and even a little Latin). Union Street Blues features Buddy Cleveland on harmonica and vocals, Neil 'Porkroll' Taylor on lead guitar, Steve Cocchi on keyboards and guitar, Ted Ryan on bass, Matt Del Collo on drums and percussion, and Paul Cleveland on tenor saxophone. 'By Any Means Necessary' includes a number of tracks featuring the Union Street Horns -- Dave Renz on alto saxophone, Joe Anderson on trumpet, and Steven Sharpe on trombone.

Federico Luiu began developing his deep passion for music at thirteen years of age. His attraction to the guitar was inspired by his father, who is an exceptional guitarist in his own right. His father’s love of blues and country music lead Federico to the legendary music of Muddy Waters, Johnny Winter, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Albert King, B.B. King and Albert Collins. The musical stylings of Joe Bonamassa, Matt Schofield and Danny Gatton, helped inform and shape Federico’s guitar pedigree.
Natural talent, combined with endless hours of practice, allowed Federico to progress quickly from intimate home performances to large concert in a number of renown clubs in Sardinia, Italy.
In 2012, Federico moved to Canada. His exceptional guitar-playing immediately was recognized in the Toronto music scene, and soon, Federico was found performing with such great musician as, Jorn Andersen (Alannah Miles), Michael Fonfara (Lou Reed), Al Cross (Big Sugar), Joey Landreth (The Bros. Landreth) and his musical idol Matt Schofield. In time, Federico helped to form a great blues quartet, Sons of Rhythm.  It was there that his songwriting talent came to the forefront. Success of this blues outfit was put on display at many music festivals including the Montreal Jazz festival as well the Porto Ferro Bluesunset Festival in Italy. By 2019, Federico began pursuing a solo career. This endeavour resulted in the creation of “Walkin’ the Blues”, a seven song album that features his creative songwriting as well as his stellar guitar playing. With guest performers such as Alexis Baro, Anthony Brancati, Joey Landreth, Matt Schofield, Alison Young and others, “Walkin’ the Blues” proves to be an explosive mix of Blues, Rock, Jazz and Country music. Looking ahead, Federico Luiu is one to watch as he continues to embrace his musical idols and he blazes a new path in the musical landscape.

Barbara Carr (born Barbara Jean Crosby, January 9, 1941) is an American blues singer. Barbara Carr was born in St Louis, Missouri, United States, and, like many blues musicians, she got her start in church, performing with her two sisters. At age 16, she formed the Comets, a band that performed cover tunes. Her break came when a brother-in-law working in Gaslight Square said bandleader Oliver Sain was looking for a female vocalist to replace Fontella Bass. Carr got the job, which eventually led to her first solo recording contract with Chess Records in Chicago, Illinois, in 1966.
Carr and husband, Charles Carr, soon started their own record label, Bar-Car. Their first recordings included Good Woman Go Bad and Street Woman. She continued to record intermittently and performed with Sain until 1972, when she temporarily retired to raise a family.
After returning to perform with local bands around St Louis, she again began recording. With her husband, she set up her own record label, Bar-Car, in 1982, and recorded a number of singles at Muscle Shoals, Alabama, which provided the basis for her first album, Good Woman Go Bad, in 1989. A second album, Street Woman, followed in 1992. In 1996, Carr signed with Ecko Records, which produced such songs as "Footprints on the Ceiling", "The Bo Hawg Grind", "If You Can't Cut The Mustard", "The Right Kind Of Love", and "Bone Me Like You Own Me". While still with Ecko Records, Carr recorded "What A Woman Wants", "Let A Real Woman Try", "Rainbow", "The Best Woman", and "Stroke It". Carr recorded eight albums with Ecko, including a best of compilations album, The Best of Barbara Carr. Carr has been honored twice with the Living Blues Readers Award as 'Female Blues Artist of the Year'. Her 2012 release, Keep The Fire Burning, on Catfood Records, reached top ten on both the Living Blues Report and the Roots Music Report. It was selected one of Down Beat magazine's Best Albums of the Year. Carr was on the cover of the November–December 2012 issue of Living Blues and was featured in that issue. In 2013 and 2014, Carr was nominated for a Blues Music Award in the 'Soul Blues Female Artist' category.

Blues, zydeco and rock band from Louisiana, USA. Formed in 1996 as the Unknown Blues Band by Big Al Lauro, Warren Haynes, and Rick Gergen.Big Al & the Heavyweights featuring Big Al,Harmonica Red, James Bass,Dean Galatas. All you have to know about these guys is the fanatical following of "Gumbo Heads" that numbers in the thousands. They drive hundreds of miles to get a serving of Big Al and the Heavyweights musical gumbo. You see, Big Al and the Heavyweights is an unconventional original music band that hails from New Orleans, LA. Why Big Al himself is from The Big Easy. That is where he grew up, surrounded by the sounds of New Orleans music - Jazz, Blues, Zydeco, Cajun, Rock, and Swamp Pop. It is these influences that make Heavyweight music so accessible and fun/ These seasoned road veterans hit it tight and hard from the get-go, and the intensity never lets up. Their sound is tried and true Chicago blues with little Westside saxophone and a taste of South Louisiana bubbling up with some frattoir and accordion. Drummer Big Al Lauro plays the blues shuffles like he was born with the drum sticks in his hand, and John The Colonel Fuhrman s harmonica threatens to go completely off the rails but never quite takes it that far. This is roadhouse music, music for a dancing up a good time with a cold one never far away from one s hand. There s a humorous why-you-got-to-be-like-that-woman tune in the vein of Sonny Boy s Don t Start Me Talkin called What s Up With That. and the deep funk of the title cut with special guest Warren Haynes slinky slide guitar over a Meters-esque beat. The Heavyweights vary up the South Side sound with some zydeco two steps spread throughout the disc so that they don t get bogged down in the blues.Sunshine On Me brings on a need to shake a tailfeather and sip an ice-cold beverage, and do that all night long. --Offbeat Magazine.
