Lady D has been singing since the age of three years old. She is an actress, songwriter, director, playwright, promoter and poet. She has toured her one-woman show, “The Lady and the Empress” since 2003. It is a musical stage play based on the life and music of blues legend, Bessie Smith. She has performed her award winning song, "Go Higher" at one of President Barack Obama's 2009 inaugural balls. She has performed with blues stars such as Johnny Rawls and Bruce Katz.
Lady D returns with her sixth studio recording; an all original offering rooted firmly in the Blues and her Appalachian upbringing. With a little bit of help from friends, fans and anyone who loves the blues, she hopes to showcase not only her vocal and songwriting capabilities but also her talent as a poet. Along with her album titled "Disturbing My Peace" Lady D is finally sharing the fruits of another of her artistic outlets. “Appalachian BluesSpeak” is a book that will feature poetry, spoken word, essays and song lyrics that paint a picture of what it has been like being a black female creative, growing up and living in Appalachia. “Appalachian BluesSpeak” is scheduled to be released ahead of the album and will be offered as one of the perks of donating to the cd production. It is also a live performance piece that may be booked as a perk for upper level donations.
