When you mention the name Pieter van der Pluijm, not many bells will ring, but when you say Big Pete, a big smile appears on the faces of especially many blues lovers. The Dutch blues singer and harmonica player Big Pete is known for, among others, the Strikes, the Backbones, M. O. C. T. (Men of Considerable Taste) and the Lester Butler Tribute band, with whom he has performed on numerous stages in recent years. Big Pete's first solo album ‘Choice Cuts’ from 2011 was critically acclaimed and was nominated for a Blues Music Award in the US. In the summer of 2014, Big Pete performed with his band at the first BluesNow! Festival in Basel, Switzerland. The uncut recording of this performance has now been released on cd under the title ' Live at Bluesnow!’. After the short announcement "wir wünschen Ihnen viel Spass, Big Pete's Bluesband" and a resounding applause, Big Pete blows on his tearing harmonica in Mean the kick-off for a splashing performance. Sander Kooiman plays an excellent guitar solo and bassist Erkan Özdemir and drummer Wuff Maes form the tight rhythm section. Born to Die is a midtempo blues rocker with the weeping harmonica again. Junior Wells gets an ode in his composition Come on in this House, in which Big Pete approaches Wells ' style anxiously. Not only with his harmonica but also the voice of the great bluesman. In this time no Lies, a song by Boyd Small, friend of Pete and singer and drummer of the Terraplanes, the tight rhythm section stands out again. After the introduction of the band, Big Pete welcomes” Monster " Mike Welch who unleashes a scorching fierce guitar solo on the enthusiastic audience in 0.28125. The next special guest is pianist Anthony Geraci who makes a party with his contribution from I've Got my Eyes on you. The highlight of the album is Ball and Chain, a slow blues with another leading role for Geraci with his beautiful long Hammond solo. Then again fierce harmonica solos behind an undisturbed rhythm section in Just to be with you. In the Geraci composition Only time will Tell, with cheerful piano playing by Geraci, Big Pete proves to be not only a formidable harmonica player, but also an excellent singer. The next special guest is Kid Ramos who conjures up a number of strident solos from his guitar in Howlin’Wolf's Rockin’ Daddy. The howling harmonica, hammering piano and rhythm section all complement each other beautifully in this fiery version. The bonus track on the album is my Backscratcher by Frank Frost. Big Pete's Blues Band Back in great shape. Conclusion:
I loved being on the Bluesnow! Big Pete's Blues Band. What a wonderful Blues concert he gave. Beautiful. And what a blessing that it has now been released and can be listened to by everyone ~ Gerrit Schinkel/

“It was a true surprise. And to be shouted out alongside Taj Mahal and Keb’ Mo’ to boot? That felt surreal”: Meet Jesse Williams, the Joe Bonamassa-backed singer-songwriter tackling the mountain blues.
Raised on fingerpicking and the blues but now beginning to explore pedals, Williams explains why it’s worth remaining independent no matter the challenges
When Joe Bonamassa recently sent a shoutout to young blues singer-songwriter Jesse Williams, it was a signal that she must be doing things right. Up till now she’s released songs including Off the Vine, See It Through and These Days on an independent basis – but with Bonamassa’s vocal support, have any major labels become interested?
“If they have, they’ve kept it to themselves!” says Dahlonega, Georgia resident Williams. She continues: “My instincts lean towards remaining independent. If a grassroots label reached out to me and we hit it off, I’d be interested. I’d want my music in the hands of someone I’d break bread with.”
Closer to the top of her to-do list is to thank Bonamassa in person. “I haven’t yet gotten the chance to meet him and chat. I do plan to – I just have to keep steady at it.” ~ By Andrew Daly (11 July 2025).

Fronted by Carman and Pat Faherty, formerly of GA-20, Canyon Lights are a blend of throwback rock n’ roll, swampy Americana, and heavy blues.  Friends and bandmates since 2018, Pat and Tim have racked up thousands of hours performing on stages all over the world. Their love of blues music fueled their explosive performances with GA-20, a three-time #1 Billboard charting blues band from Boston, MA.
In 2023, Pat and Tim began connecting over their mutual love of ’70s rock ‘n’ roll bands like Mountain, Thin Lizzy, and James Gang. Inspired by this era, Pat proposed the two work out some song ideas he had been playing with. At the same time, Tim revealed to Pat some personal lyrics he had held onto for years. The songwriting connection was instant and unique. Pat and Tim realized that this was a new venture, not strictly blues and not confined to any lane of creativity. The two flew to Denver in early 2024 to put these sounds on tape with friend Dylan Brown at the helm as engineer and co-producer. From this session, Canyon Lights was born.
“The songs on this album are among the most personal we’ve ever written and recorded. Spending 200 days a year on the road, struggling with separation and loss, the thrill and loneliness of living out of a suitcase… a lot of blood, sweat, and tears went into this album. We held nothing back and we can’t wait for you all to experience these stories with us…” – Pat and Tim
After finishing the album, which featured bass guitar (played by Pat) on every track, the pair realized they needed a third member to cover the low end live. They reached out to friends in the music community for suggestions and one name kept turning up: Heather Gillis.
Pat and Tim flew to Nashville, TN to meet and jam with Heather, and the connection was instant. Gillis, a talented multi-instrumentalist, has extensive touring experience with artists like Butch Trucks and Lindsay Lou and also leads her own group called Wolf Twin. While in Nashville, the trio recorded a live version of their original song “Seventh Son,” which they released December 5, 2024.
Since then, things have moved fast for the trio. After the release of “Seventh Son,” they signed with Burning House Management and Madison House Booking Agency and booked a slew of national tour dates including a stretch of shows opening up for the legendary George Thorogood & The Destroyers.
The word is out on this new trio. And they’re only getting started… The trio’s debut studio album Breathe Easy will be released later this summer.

The D-Regulators (that used to be called Regulators) continue with their brand of jump blues, boogie, and some smooth blues. "D-Day has a hot rhythm section, along with horns that enliven the place. The end result is a foot-tapping record with a solid harmonica and front man in Dr. Boogie. The D-Regulators raise the temperature a few degrees!

Dave Clark’s Blues Swingers - Switchin’ In The Kitchen (Featuring Floyd McDaniel)

Long before the zoot-suited-and-pomaded neo-swing revival took the country by storm a few years back, Dave Clark was a genuine swing disciple. When the tenor saxist/arranger assembled the first edition of his Blues Swingers, the swing movement had yet to coalesce. Nor was the Chicago blues circuit entirely ready to embrace the concept of a large, horn-driven outfit deftly driving through jump blues and jazz numbers as though it was 1948. Fortunately, Dave had an unbeatable musical ace up his sleeve: veteran front man and guitarist Floyd McDaniel. Bandleader, arranger, tenor saxist Dave Clark leads the Blues Swingers, a nine piece vintage R&B revivalist band. Their first Delmark appearance was accompanying guitarist Floyd McDaniel on Let Your Hair Down! (Delmark 671). Floyd passed at the age of 80 in 1995 but Switchin’ In The Kitchen features five previously unreleased tracks from 1992 as well as eleven new tracks.

The Dead Reds - Circle Serpent

Bitrate:320K/s
Year:2023
Time:40:07
Size:92,2 MB
Label:Self-Released
Styles:Blues/Fock/Psych/Rock

Tracks Listing:
 1. Brothers and Sisters - 6:58
 2. Son of America - 3:32
 3. Ships - 3:53
 4. Blood and Dirt - 6:17
 5. Table 10 - 4:02
 6. Last Train at Midnight - 4:09
 7. The Hunter - 5:52
 8. Stand Up Tall - 5:20

This is a very unusual album! A mixture of styles!
The Dead Reds: A six-piece band based in Lewes (East Sussex, UK), playing all original, dirty British blues, Americana, Psych and Rock n’ Roll. In the Summer of 2020, during lockdown, they released their fourth album Dictated Democracy.
Last album: CIRCLE SERPENT
TDR: “We wrote these songs from the summer onwards, thriving off the additional songwriting input from Mark Wood since joining the band in April. We wanted to record the songs as live as possible, and thanks to the lovely space at Metway, we were able to make this a reality! We recorded all 8 of these songs in the live room over those 6 days. We couldn’t be happier with how they have turned out.”
TUTV: It all starts with a sort of voodo-trance warm-up with blood-curdling guitars, a floating flute, bits of glowing harmonica and a spellbinding vocal part by goosebumps singer Beth Lees on opener Brothers And Sisters. Afterward the heat is turned up on Son
Of America, Table 10, Last Train At Midnight and The Hunter with the fiery Americana voice of Mark Woods. Psychobilly-like swamp blues at its hottest. Another sultry example is Last Train At Midnight.
In between, you can stomp your feet on Blood and Dirt spiced with sharp-edged guitar play, and take a breather on heartfelt tune Ships and the tremendously beautiful ballad Stand Up Tall, where Lees and Woods enchant with a most gripping duet and an acoustic guitar gently weeps. It’s not like I’m a blues expert, but trust me you don’t have to be one at all to hear and feel the emotive energy, the striking heart-and-soul vocality, the versatile musical expertise and the vehement ardency of the flaming flare-ups, all at play here. Dress cowboy smart and start a fiesta ~  TUTV (2024)
In early December 2022, we hid from the cold and buried ourselves into Brighton’s Metway Studios for six days. This album is the result of that week. We wrote these songs from the summer onwards, thriving off the additional songwriting input from Mark Wood since joining the band in April. We wanted to record the songs as live as possible, and thanks to the lovely space at Metway, we were able to make this a reality! With Jake Rousham at the helm on the desk, we recorded all 8 of these songs in the live room over those 6 days. We couldn’t be happier with how they have turned out. We are grateful for our original singer Jeremy Green for playing the acoustic guitar on ‘Blood and Dirt’ which he co-wrote with us before he left the band. We are also grateful to the additional acoustic instrumentalists, Hugh Jones (Banjo) on ‘Ships’ and Tom Bailey (Double Bass) on ‘Ships’ and ‘Stand Up Tall’.
We would like to extend our greatest thanks to The Levellers and Metway Studios for allowing us to use their wonderful space, and a huge thank you to Jake Rousham for his expertise both in the control room and during the mixing process. Thanks also to Jon Sevink (The Levellers) for his fantastic work at mastering the album. Lastly, thank you to all of you, our friends, family and fans, without you this would not be possible!

The Dan McCutcheon Band - The Dan McCutcheon Band

Year:2018
Time:32:35
Size:76,6 MB
Label:Audio Voyage Records

Tracks Listing:
 1. McKinley King - 4:31
 2. Evil - 4:23
 3. Drivin' Home - 4:56

 5. My Baby's Crazy - 4:49
 6. A Little Luv - 4:31
 7. Mojo Man - 2:50
 8. Words - 2:42

Dan McCutcheon (singer and guitarist) was one of the organizers of the band "Jungle Rooster" (from Livermore, CA) in 2008. The band mainly performed live. The main direction of the band was rock and roll. The press noted that "Jungle Rooster" isn't old school rock – it's just rock'n roll the way you like it: burning guitars, head-banging tempos, dizzying arpeggios, in-your-face vocals, and not a keyboard in sight! In 2017, Dan McCutcheon left "Jungle Rooster" and created a band of the same name to play and sing blues. Having released one album in 2018 under the name "The Dan McCutcheon Band", the band disbanded.

Rondo's Blues Deluxe - Cross-Eyed Cat

 4. Dust My Broom - 4:56
 5. Give Me An Hour In Your Garden - 8:49

 7. The Same Thing - 5:30
 8. Three Hundred Pounds - 4:40
 9. It Hurts Me Too - 6:50
10. Bflat Minor Blues - 7:33

Musicians:
Rondo - Vocals, Harmonica, Percussion;
Rich McDonough - Guitar;
Craig Thornton  Bass;
Jack Inglis - Keys including a Hammond B-3 organ;
Dennis 'Chicago Slim' Lansing - Sax;
James Connor - Drums.

This is Rondo’s 2nd CD and one of the best CD’s I’ve heard from a St. Louis band! Excellent!
This effort was the result of a last minute invitation to substitute for Oliver Sain and band, it caused a mad panic to get passports and make arrangements to get these six musicians from St Louis to Amsterdam, on barely a three-day notice. Well, they got there. They played and were invited by Timeless to record a CD. We get ten songs, all covers (including songs of Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, Willie Dixon, Elmore James, Albert Collins and others). All tracks were all first cuts and the album was recorded in one day.

1. Cross-Eyed Cat – some piano, tasty sax solos, even some hummin’ and Hammond B-3 towards the end. Whatta combination, whatta song.
2. Black Nights – slow rooty vocals.
3. I've Got To Leave This Woman – a bit faster than the others, has a good beat. I really liked the Hammond backing.
4. Dust My Broom – an excellent bluesy shuffle with great guitar playin’ (McDonough) and some piano boogie-woogie. Personally, I’d like to hear more guitar like this on the other songs.
5. Give Me An Hour In Your Garden – blues served up St. Louis style at it’s best. Wow!
6. It Hurts Before You Heal – reminiscent of a slow almost Joe Cocker’ish song.
7. The Same Thing – man, this song is tight, killer classic Rondo vocals with a dab o’ piano.
8. Three Hundred Pounds – this song is all about the motion of the ocean baby.
9. It Hurts Me Too – slow, in your face intense blues.
10. B Flat Minor Blues – bluesy vocals, blues guitar. An excellent track, I’d like it called Cornbread’s song!

Rondo is one of those cats that has become a staple in the St. Louis blues scene from his beginnings with the Soulard Blues Band to his hugely successful solo career. Rondo sings with a ton of feeling and mojo, putting all his emotions into his singing.
OK y’all this makes for darn good listenin’ and should be a staple of St. Louis Blues aficionados and blues fans globally. You won’t find the rawness and abundance of “say yea” as you would on their live CD, this is 60-minutes of excellent blues, and I really liked this recording. Rating 4.75.

This is a very interesting two CD set. The Deluxe Blues Band is an English band that was originally formed in 1981 to back up blues artists from the States such as Eddie Clearwater and Carey Bell. The first disc consists of songs recorded in 1995 by the band and features the excellent vocals of Phil Taylor, Paul Lamb on the harp and various guests including Johnny Mar and Otis Grand. The second disc was recorded in 1997, and features all but two new members. The sound difference between disc on and two is very distinct. Disc 1 has more of the early blues sound and feel typical of what we is usually associated with the British invasion while Disc 2 has more of a sophisticated jazz/blues sound. The incomparable horn of Dick Heckstall-Smith is featured on various tracks on both discs and his playing is always a treat. There is some good material here worthy of consideration.

 8. Reelin' - 2:58

10. Rock Me Babe - 7:27

“Reelin’” is Dallas’s first solo CD, containing originals and reworked classics. “I recorded it to document who I am and what I do, more for my parents than anybody else....There was no attempt at making a ‘hit’ record, just good music,” Hodge wrote in April of this year. Well, Dallas should feel proud because that is exactly what he accomplished, and “good music” it is. The set opener is “Divin’ Duck” which is basically Hodge’s arrangement and own take of “If the River Was Whiskey.” The mid-tempo blues starts with a pop from Tony Braunagel on drums and ivory tinkling by Rick Solem. Dallas’s whiskey-gruff vocals are nicely punctuated at the end of each sung line by album recorder and co-producer Tom Maclear on slide guitar. Hodge’s own gold top Les Paul guitar works above the Terry Wilson bass line, and Maclear and Solem take tasty mid song solos. The song works well to introduce what Hodge’s music is about and leaves the door open for surprises to come. Track 2 gives us a big surprise, “Love Me Do” by the Beatles done slower in a completely original arrangement and style. He was 45 seconds into the song, before it hit me: Yumping Yiminy – that’s a Beatles’ song! The song opens with twin lead guitars played in harmony the way Elvin Bishop and Johnny Vernazzo used to do in Bishop’s Capricorn Records days. Making a full and lush sound, three horns harmonize with those guitars: David Woodford on sax, Lee Thornburg on trumpet, and Garrett Adkins on trombone. Before it all sinks in, the listener is whisked off into the nether by the up tempo track 3, “Take That Baby Home.” Another change up is thrown our way with track 4, a re-work, with new lyrics, of Detroit friend Bob Seger’s “Against the Wind.” Titled “In the Wind,” the opening guitar switches to acoustic courtesy of Greg Beck. Skip Van Winkl plays Hammond B3 while another guest, Larry Zack, adds drums. Lamenting the loss of a friend, “Pops,” the song gets ethereal treatment from Maclear’s steel guitar and Solem’s piano. Blues fans will enjoy Hodge’s take on an old BB King song, “Don’t Want Nobody.” Letting the little woman know that he knows what is going on, Hodge sings, “Tell the Carnation milk man not to leave no more milk. He’s been leavin’ too much cream lately, baby; may need to take some insurance on himself.” “Up the Country” gives a nod to Hodge’s Canned Heat days, but this version is at a slower tempo with outstanding slide guitar. Muddy Waters’ “Rock Me Babe” is given the Hodge treatment here. There was no need to re-invent the “wagon wheel,” just keep it rolling. The title track and “Holiday” (by Catfish) are rock and rollers that showcase Hodge’s “Motor City” sound. “High Roller,” the other Catfish song, has a slow Southern rock style with slide guitar, road house piano, and backing vocals by Teresa James and Kelly “Kacee” Clanton. Again, Hodge should be proud of this solid set of music showcasing what he does. While he wasn’t trying to create anything unique, there are enough surprises, thoughtful arrangements, and solid playing from guests and his own years’ experiences to make the CD interesting and enjoyable.Reviewer James “Skyy Dobro” Walker is a noted Blues writer, DJ and Blues Blast contributor.

Rootsy singer-songwriter Connor Selby channels his emotional communication on his new studio album ‘The Truth Comes Out Eventually’ . Authentic, roots-based voices have penetrated the mainstream in recent years, from the soulful yearns of early Leon Bridges, the groove of Gary Clark Jr., the booming voice of Jacob Banks, the raw and haunting delivery of Ray LaMontagne or the earthy tones of Rag ’n Bone Man – those voices cut through, and they stand out, they make you take notice because they don’t sound like everyone else. Connor Selby’s voice echoes these trailblazers, enveloping his music with an emotional integrity. He delves deep into his soul, all the way down into his core and the feeling of belonging. Life can often throw you around, leaving you mentally and emotionally battered and bruised, and not all of us know how we deal with these situations. Selby, like many others, has found it difficult to verbalise these feelings and emotions, so this is his way of expressing himself – his emotional communica.

Many Years ago and around the time dirt was invented, Craig Stevenz got his first guitar.
Having played clarinet in school band up until this point it became obvious that in the search for kool, one needed to play guitar drums or bass. So Craig convinced his dad to get him one and the future changed forever.
Not a lot happened in the learning department until the last six months in the army. That's when things got more serious.
After discharge, Craig returned home to Monroe, Washington and formed a band known as Thunderhawk in the mid 70's. Altho the band was well known at local parties there was little opportunity for three country boys oblivious to the big city to do much beyond playing "covers" in local taverns around Lynnwood and Everett. "Cursed" with the ability to write his own music, Craig could never stay playing covers for long and at the time disco was all anyone wanted any way. During this time however Thunderhawk did get a cut onto KISW in Seattle on a radio show called "Your mother won't like it". This was around 1979.
Of course Craig kept self destructing for years by kicking out players for stupid reasons (sound familiar?) thereby causing the band to remain in a state of flux. Many drummers and a few bass players later it was time to quit.
Of course there were other bands formed THC, High Rock, etc. All cover bands.
Then there was a shift into jammin around at jam nights and meeting other musicians that Craig wasn't in a band with. (Allowing him to stay friends). This is where the blues (blues / rock) began to emerge from his fingers and his soul.
His band now goes by the name "The Victims of Kool" Craig say's that's why he's poor. Like everyone else who sought to be cool as opposed to the standard get a job, work forever, buy a house grow old and die crowd.
Now Craig has a number of sounds from Hard rock to Blues and everything in between. How do you catagorize Craig's sound?
Well let's see a list of his favorites. First there was the Beatles, Then Jimi Hendrix blew everyone out of the water, Pat Travers, Robin Trower, ZZ Top. One thing is true to this day, Craig prefers the Guitar based trio sound. Always has, and probably always will. Now in the age of computer recording and web sites, Craig is re- recording and publishing a quite extensive backlog of tunes going all the way back to his very first song ever written "Tired of you" to more modern tunes like "Too much Metal for one hand" and "She my baby". Perhaps his website and this cd will help to leave his footprint across the world. If not he hopes to have fun trying. Enjoy and as Craig would say......

10. You Gotta Go Through St. Louis - 2:42
11. Start Drinking Early Day - 2:29
12. I Wanna Know About You - 3:06

Four-time GRAMMY®-winner, drummer/producer/songwriter Tom Hambridge will release his new studio album ‘Down The Hatch’ on August 29th. This marks the second release on Quarto Valley Records following his critically acclaimed 2023 ‘Blu Ja Vu.’
The new album demonstrates the sheer joy Tom receives from creating music. “It is me being me,” says Tom. I love the blues, I love rock ‘n roll, I love Willie Dixon, I love Buddy Guy; this album is me doing what I love. It’s what I do; it’s in my blood.”
‘Down The Hatch’ offers 12 original songs that reflect the blues sounds of the past, present and future. Some of the tunes included on this release were originally written or co-written by Hambridge for others, like “Every Time I Sing The Blues,” “Willie Dixon’s Gone” and “Believe These Blues” “I wanted to do my version — the way I heard them in my head while writing them,” says Tom. There are also a handful of new tunes. All the songs have a common thread — whether he’s in the studio creating for Christone “Kingfish’ Ingram, George Thorogood or Buddy Guy, the award-winning drummer is motoring the whole thing –- and, in this case, Tom is the songwriter, drummer, arranger and producer.
A favorite on the new album is “Every Time I Sing The Blues,” originally recorded by Eric Clapton and Buddy Guy. Tom felt strongly about including his version of this ‘traditional blues-sounding’ song as he believes it’s the closest to how it feels when you have the blues with lyrics, stating “I find my inspiration in tears and desperation. It’s a sad, sad story that we all know so well; I’m just trying to tell the truth, every time I sing the blues.”
“Willie Dixon’s Gone” is a nod to the legendary Chess Recording Artist. This tune was originally co-written with George Thorogood for his album of Chess songs that Tom produced and played drums on. The song features Rob McNelley on guitar (Bob Seger), Tommy MacDonald on bass (Johnny Winter) with Tom on vocals and drums.
The message is pretty clear in the track “You Gotta Go Through St. Louis.” This is a rock and roll number that brings an emotionally charged and electrified sound from the legendary guitarist Buddy Guy. Tom played drums for the great Chuck Berry, who hails from St. Louis and he wrote this track as an homage to the rock idol with Buddy in mind for the guitar. Kevin McKendree (Brian Setzer) is on piano and Glenn Worf (Mark Knopfler) on bass. “If you want to play rock and roll, you have to go through St. Louis!” reiterates Tom.
“What Might Have Been” features Tom on vocals and Bob Britt (Bob Dylan) on guitar. There is a guitar-picking Delta Blues sound to it and a psychedelic style to this song to the point of purposely avoiding the standard blues method.
Recorded at Blackbird Studio A and Ronnie’s Place in Nashville, TN, Down The Hatch was mixed and mastered by Michael Saint-Leon and Tom Hambridge at The Switchyard. Tom has hand-assembled a stellar group of talented musicians for this album: Rob McNelley (Bob Seger), Tom Bukovac (Joe Walsh), Bob Britt (Bob Dylan) and Buddy Guy on guitar; Glenn Worf (Mark Knopfler), Tommy MacDonald (Johnny Winter) and Anton Nesbitt (BeBe & CeCe Winans) on bass; Mike Rojas (The Black Keys) Kevin Mckendree (Brian Setzer) and Noah Forbes on keyboard. Tim Lauer (The Smashing Pumpkins) is contributing on accordion with Tom on drums, vocals and percussion.
It’s only been two years since his 2023 chart-topping release Blu Ja Vu on Quarto Valley Records, but prior to that, he hadn’t released his own work since 2018. “I think I got excited with Bruce Quarto and Quarto Valley Records when putting out Blue Ja Vu, explains Tom. “It got my juices flowing again. I’ve been so busy being a producer and a songwriter and this other guy that I forgot how much I love putting out records and touring, singing my owns songs and doing my own thing. With Bruce and the label, I just felt like there’s a home and there are people who are excited about having me do my thing.”

The Jeremy Edge Project is an eclectic modern rock band, utilizing hard rock influences as well as classic sounds stemming from the British Invasion of the late 60s and early 70s, a sound heavily influenced by the Delta Blues. Frontman and founder Jeremy Edge stretches the boundaries of bluesy rock song structures and combines a variety of influences to create the distinct sound he always envisioned getting to play. "I think because I was officially born and raised in South Carolina, there's a little bit of a Southern rock flavor to what we do and there's also a little bit of an experimental side as well," said Jeremy Edge in an email interview with The Weekender.
Edge is joined by bassist John Delowery, drummer Ray Geida, keyboardist Charlie Calv (Angel) and Byron Winchester on harmonica.
The Black Sheep will be The Jeremy Edge Project's fourth full-length album released since the project's debut in 2020. The title track, "The Black Sheep," was released as a single over summer 2024.
The song uses an assortment of rock, blues, and country styles to create a masterful jam from start to finish full of standalone instrumentals. The Jeremy Edge Project also released a music video for "The Black Sheep" and they had a ton of fun shooting it!
Director Lee Fenstamaker came up with the idea to shoot a gangster prohibition era music video to accompany the first single released from the upcoming album. They cast The Jeremy Edge Project's band members as bootleggers while the band's friends in Cass and the Bailout Crew played a rival band of criminals.

What is an optimist? An optimist is a person who has been sentenced to prison, and on the way there, he/she says, “At least I’ll gain a deeper understanding of the Blues!”  Blues and jail have always seemed to co-exist, even spawning some great works like BB King at Cook County Jail or Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison. In Michael Packer’s case, his one year stint in stir at Rikers Island, New York, gave him both a chance to learn, and perform. Packer did three or four concerts with his in-house band while serving a year there for armed robbery.
“Rikers Island Blues” was not recorded at the famous New York gray-bar-hotel as one might infer from the name. Since there is no mention in the liner notes where it was recorded, I am unsure. The first song seems to be a studio song, and the remaining seven tracks are recorded live, somewhere. Track three, “I’m Tore Down,” is announced at Sweet Rhythm, a famous jazz club in Greenwich Village in New York City. The exact recording date is also unclear.
Altogether, the eight song set is some enjoyable real-deal Blues. The opening track may be an original (again, scant liner notes), but the remaining seven live tracks are mostly well chosen covers like “The Thrill Is Gone” and “I’m Tore Down.” While one can imagine Packer’s vocals being stronger as a young man, he commands plenty of respect from his fellow all-star musicians, who are loose and in the groove. The biographical shuffle “Born in New York City” was written by Packer, and it features Felix Cabrera’s deft honking on harp.
The live songs feature Michael Packer on guitar and vocals, James Cotton's piano player David Maxwell, Guitarist Jimmy Vivino from the Conan O'Brien show, Lou Marini from the Blues Brothers and Saturday Night live, Cuban born harmonica ace Felix Cabrera, Ed Jackson on bongos, King Bear on bass and Nat Seeley on drums.

Still Shakin’ celebrates the 25th anniversary of the release of The North Mississippi Allstars' debut album "Shake Hands with Shorty", released in 2000. I first met Luther and Cody Dickinson in April 1996, when they played with their father Jim in a band called DDT, and then again in 1997 as part of The North Mississippi Allstars. Everyone could see and hear the tremendous talent coming from the stage. In both cases, it was clear that they radiate that elusive energy and enthusiasm that can be seen in great music. They were having a great time. And they had fun. Still Shakin’ is a pleasure to listen to, filled with amazing grooves and playing. You must have felt the smiles on their faces when they recorded this album. Luther and Cody Dickinson were joined by Rayfield “Ray Ray” Holloman and Joey Williams from their band known as the Allstars, as well as special guests: Jojo Hermann, Duwayne Burnside, Robert Kimbrough, Kashiah Hunter, Trae Pierce, Grahame Lesh, Sharisse Norman and Shontelle Norman.
The songs here are a mix of original and melodies from past blues masters, which have been their source of inspiration over the years. They call their music Modern Mississippi Music because of the combination of sounds and influences. In many ways, the incomparable symbiosis of acoustic guitar and clavinet in “K.C. Jones (Part II)”this clash of influences perfectly illustrates this. The awesome electric percussion of the clavinet is perfectly combined with the rhythmic sound of the acoustic guitar. The song “My Mind is Rambling," featuring Sharice and Shontelle Norman, transitions into a long coda that reminds me of Marvin Gaye's sonic explorations when he was releasing more socially oriented music. The funky blues from “Poor Boy” could give rise to a new subgenre - ambient, trance blues in the style of hill country. The track features DuWayne Burnside. "Pray for Peace" is my favorite track on the album. The message, performance and mood are only positive, backed up by an incendiary groove and guitar playing. Check out all the songs here. And when you go back to the next audition, you'll find something new that you liked the most, or a cool guitar or keyboard part that you missed the first time. That's what great recordings do.: they are giving you more and more information. It's a great record.
Still Shakin’ was produced by the Dickinson brothers and mostly recorded by them and other musicians at studios such as Harmony Hills Studio (Nashville, TN), Zebra Ranch Studio (Independence, MO), Checkerboard Lounge (Southaven, MO), Poor House (Little Rock, Arkansas) and Burnside Bar and Grill Juke Joint (Holly Springs, Missouri). americanahighways - Michael Dinallo

“Today, blues is a global music, known and cherished by people all over the world,” writes Candice Ivory in the album’s liner notes. “But its roots are in the American South – in places like Memphis and Mississippi, where I first met the blues, and in nearby outposts like St. Louis, where I now live. ‘New Southern Vintage’ pays homage to this iconic Southern folk form as well as the heroines and heroes who created it, including my greatest inspirations: blueswoman Memphis Minnie (“World of Trouble,” “Shout the Boogie”) and my own great-uncle Will Roy Sanders (“I’m in Trouble”), who fronted the Fieldstones, the best Memphis blues band of the 1970s and 1980s.
The album also features several living legends, from Jimmy “Duck” Holmes (caretaker of the Bentonia, Mississippi school of blues guitar) to folk-blues éminences grises David Evans and Andrew Cohen. And because blues is an ancient-to-the-future music – vintage and new – I invited a number of brilliant younger artists to join me on New Southern Vintage. My longtime collaborator Robert Allen Parker Public Enemy’s Khari Wynn, and the other members of my Memphis-based band the Blue Bloods appear on several tracks, as do Ben Levin, Damian “Yella P” Pearson, and Chris Stephenson. There are also some special international guests – Jan Hartmann, Antonio Vergara, Takuto Asano, and Yubu Kazungu – who hail from around the globe and nonetheless fit right into the Southern sounds of ‘New Southern Vintage,’ showing that no matter how far we travel down the blues highway, we can always go back home to the land where the blues began.”
“Musically, visually and intellectually, Candice Ivory wields a trifecta of creativity that is powerfully unique and broad. From the ‘blue blood in her veins’ to the primal, hypnotic ‘Catfish Blues’ and all points in between, she has woven a magnificently textured musical expression of the rich roots of the South,” says Sallie Bengtson, Nola Blue Records president. “After many discussions over the past year about the ‘new southern vintage’ concept and its fresh perspective on Black Culture in the American South, it echoed in familiarity for me as I experienced the new box office hit, Sinners. Performed by a world class, multi-generational group of musicians, the music of New Southern Vintage stands solidly unique and powerfully poised to become a comparable major hit in the music world.”
Ivory’s last album, ‘When the Levee Breaks: The Music of Memphis Minnie,’ drew universal acclaim in its reviews, such as from Bill Bentley, who wrote in Americana Highways, “Because Candice Ivory takes these songs so deep into her vast spirit that in many ways they become her own… [Her] voice comes from another place, one where time doesn’t exist and the overwhelming depth of her singing feels like it has been here forever. This is a woman who has arrived to tell her truth, and there will be no debating that it belongs here now.”

The Go Graal Blues Band made their appearance in 1975 , featuring João Allain (guitar), Artur Paes (bass), Zito (drums), Tony Sousa (guitar) and José Carlos Cordeiro (voice) and defined themselves as a group that was dedicated to playing and singing blues . After several experiences the formation stabilizes with Paulo Gonzo ( voice and harmonica ), João Allain ( solo guitar ), Raúl Barrigas dos Anjos ( drums ), Augusto Mayer (harmonica), António Ferro ( bass ), João Esteves ( guitar ) and José Carlos Lamb (main voice). In 1979, they signed a contract with Imavox and, later that year, released Go Graal Blues Band , their first LP, where the group fully assumes a stance dedicated to electric blues, notorious on themes such as "Baby, I Wanna…", "The Fault Is Her Own "and" The Last One ". This year Tó Andrade enters the place of bassist. On September 22, at the invitation of José Nuno Martins, they hold the first concert with laser beams at the Instituto Superior de Agronomia. This concert was broadcast live on RTP 1 and is on RTP archives. In 1980 they released the single "They Send Me Away", featuring a more rock sound, very close to Dr. Feelgood 's style. Rock In Stock host Luis Filipe Barros produces the single " Lay Down ", reaching the top spot in Rock In Stock.
In 1982 the band's second LP " White Traffic " was released. From the original lineup only Paulo Gonzo and João Allain are left. Bass is in charge of Fernando Delaere and Hippo Birdie's drums. This LP includes themes such as " N'Roll ", " Lonely " and " Guetto Drunk ". The musical evolution of the group is notorious and the success is measured not so much by the sales of records, but by the number of shows.
Internal disagreements over the authorship of the themes lead to Delaere and Birdie leaving for the Roxigenio and new members are recruited. Joins the drums Mario Pereira (Marito) and Henrique Leite is in charge of the bass. The " Blackmail " Mini LP is released where you can listen to blues / rock themes like " Champagne All Night ", " Love Fashion " and " Midnight Killer ". In 1984 the Max Single Single Dirty Brown City was published with themes such as " Dirty Brown City ", " Fast Flirt " and " Wild Beat Blues ". That year Tó Andrade re-enters the bass, at the invitation of João Allain. In 1987, the band's latest album, " So Down Train ", was released, with a more mature sound but far from the success of other eras. Go Graal's latest album features songs like "They Don't Give A Damn", "A Little Bit" or "City Lights". After the release of this LP, Paulo Gonzo leaves the band to launch a solo career. It is replaced by João Melo , becoming the band consisting of João Melo, João Allain, Tó Andrade, Leonel Cardoso ( sax ), Fernando Costa (keys) and Chico Cardoso (drums). After about six months, Mário Pereira returns to the drums and the 1st singer José Carlos Cordeiro.
Due to the commercial failure of the LP "So Down Train", reflected in the decrease of the number of shows, the group makes the decision to dissolve, leading in 1989 to the extinction of one of the most remarkable groups of blues / rock in Portugal. They had a career full of shows, including the first part of the show of The Shirts in Lagos , the first part of Jan Akkerman at the Cascais Dramatic, the first part of the Blues Band at the Coliseum and a memorable concert at the Lisbon Coliseum as head. of poster.

"Homebrew - Communication@440 (2015)" refers to the 2015 compilation album titled "Communication@440: Best of Smonkey Labs," which features Homebrew as an artist. The compilation includes songs by various artists, including Homebrew, and was released in 2015.
“Communication@440” is a clever reference to the 440 hz concert pitch used to calibrate all instruments (a tuning fork will register this note). This album is a fantastic compilation of the best of three albums from Homebrew and its harder edged premier album as Strange Monkey. All of the tunes were digitally remastered under the meticulous supervison of founding member Mark Turner. This album really takes the listener through a nice collection of different musical styles, all anchored by the core trio of Mark Turner on guitar, Alan Hodde on bass and Johnny G on drums. These twenty all original songs are a collection of Colorado’s premier singers and musicians: “millineum blues with a healthy dose of funk, jazz and rock influences.” This album’s previously unreleased single “Rainsong,” is arguably the best song ever written by Captain Tim and is worth the price of admission alone. Other highlights include Denver’s Queen of the Blues: Erica Brown, singing on “Bad Suspicion” with a full horn section backup and the progressive 3/4 jazz blues “Fandango in Paris,” showcasing Mark’s lead guitar throughout. Cassie Muldrow rocks the blues/rock “Mister Mojo” and Cassie and Bethany Lee harmonize like Heart on the ballad “Apple Tree.” Little Mary provides a sultry vocal on “Just Don't Want to Wake Up” and there are killer instrumentals “Astrud,” “Sunset Slowdown” and “Sweet Tooth/Hobcam.” The latter part of the album strays away from the blues rock and gets into some harder edged Strange Monkey songs featuring Danny Durham on vocals/keyboards and more Captain Tim. “Blister” is definitely Captain’s theme song: crank this one up! The album ends with Alan playing his classic acoustic slide guitar tribute to the Cedar Hill Blues Boys on “Three Acre Lane.”
