"Homebrew - Communication@440 (2015)" refers to the 2015 compilation album titled "Communication@440: Best of Smonkey Labs," which features Homebrew as an artist. The compilation includes songs by various artists, including Homebrew, and was released in 2015.
“Communication@440” is a clever reference to the 440 hz concert pitch used to calibrate all instruments (a tuning fork will register this note). This album is a fantastic compilation of the best of three albums from Homebrew and its harder edged premier album as Strange Monkey. All of the tunes were digitally remastered under the meticulous supervison of founding member Mark Turner. This album really takes the listener through a nice collection of different musical styles, all anchored by the core trio of Mark Turner on guitar, Alan Hodde on bass and Johnny G on drums. These twenty all original songs are a collection of Colorado’s premier singers and musicians: “millineum blues with a healthy dose of funk, jazz and rock influences.” This album’s previously unreleased single “Rainsong,” is arguably the best song ever written by Captain Tim and is worth the price of admission alone. Other highlights include Denver’s Queen of the Blues: Erica Brown, singing on “Bad Suspicion” with a full horn section backup and the progressive 3/4 jazz blues “Fandango in Paris,” showcasing Mark’s lead guitar throughout. Cassie Muldrow rocks the blues/rock “Mister Mojo” and Cassie and Bethany Lee harmonize like Heart on the ballad “Apple Tree.” Little Mary provides a sultry vocal on “Just Don't Want to Wake Up” and there are killer instrumentals “Astrud,” “Sunset Slowdown” and “Sweet Tooth/Hobcam.” The latter part of the album strays away from the blues rock and gets into some harder edged Strange Monkey songs featuring Danny Durham on vocals/keyboards and more Captain Tim. “Blister” is definitely Captain’s theme song: crank this one up! The album ends with Alan playing his classic acoustic slide guitar tribute to the Cedar Hill Blues Boys on “Three Acre Lane.”
