Make no mistake. These Kingsnakes are the real Kingsnakes. No pretty-boy pin-ups in this bunch. And you ain't gonna hear no wimpy love songs soaked with strings. Just four road-tested, blues-rockin' fellas, who'll smoke any dingy barroom with the best of them. And their mammas love them. Baggy eyes an' all. Speaking of the real thing, who should know better than the great John Lee Hooker. The Boogie King. Possessor of a voice that could curl the toes of a Sunday school teacher and a growl that can bring her to her knees. John Lee has welcomed the use of The Kingsnakes numerous occasions as his backing band. The Hook has this to say about one of the East Coast's best barroom blues bands, "I'm proud they've named their band after one of my songs, (Crawling Kingsnake). They've done it justice and they are really fine musicians." When The Hook speaks, ya better listen. Now I think you oughta meet the boys so you might feel a little personal with 'em. Harpoonist Pete McMahon, is also a mighty fine singer with a nice bit of a growl himself. Knows how to write a tune too. Guitar slinger Terry Mulhauser is a steady rollin' man, the cat just don't play a bad lick. Bassman Paul LaRonde is king of the round sound, Mr. Hooker sez he reminds him of Canned Heat bassist, Larry Taylor. Compliments don't get any better. Stickman Mark Tiffault lives in a 'roomful of grooves' and he don't ever come out. Never. By the way, all four of the boys call Syracuse, New York their home. Bleed Orange and wear thermal underwear they do. Okay, now I'll tell ya about the tunes. Best ones they've come up with yet. Blacksnake Shake is one of those "feature the harmonica" specials that's gonna have all those young, aspiring harpoonists blowing their brains out. Good luck boys. My Mind is Breaking is a "state of the union" address that tells it like it is. Life is deceiving. Motherless World gots some heavy stuff goin' on. Better listen up. Trouble On The Run somehow ended up being the title of this album. Process of elimination, but it's a fun tune. No One But A Fool is a song Mr. T likes alot. You better like it too. Side two kicks off with a Nick Gravenites song you aint gonna find anywhere else. Told me we could record it but we better not f#@k it up. They didn't. Can't Find Heaven shows the boys do have a serious side to them. Seriously though, the next tune, After Hours, showcases a couple of good friends and great musicians, Kenny "The Doctor" Baker on sax and Deacon Jones on organ. They helped out on most of the tunes and they shined. The album closes with (Trying To) Get You Off My Mind. Kind of sums up what's on the boys' minds and Pete gives Websters Dictionary something to think about. All you digital people get a couple of bonus tracks cause you spent more money. Who said life ain't fair?
