Meet the new voice of South Carolina blues & soul. Miss Wanda Johnson is an intense and vivacious singer whose music is an intriguing blend of blues, gospel, soul, and Southern roots.
Miss Wanda Johnson, born in 1963 in the South Carolina 'Piedmont' region, is a sparkling addition to the deep Southern blues & roots tradition.
Wanda is a gifted singer (and natural songwriter) whose charisma comes through loud & clear on this provocative debut.
Recorded in one steamy summer night in a studio in rural South Carolina, "Call Me Miss Wanda" was cut live with virtually no overdubs. Backed by the band of Shrimp City Slim, Wanda applies her heart-melting vocals to a collection of poetic original songs. This set includes "The River", "Switch Me Over (to Love)", "Finally Home", "If I Rise in the Morning", and other gems from her live show.
"I'm Through With You" was used in a North American TV/radio ad campaign for Curves For Women (2005).
"Finally Home" is on the soundtrack of the hit TV show "Army Wives" on the Lifetime channel (episode #EP-302, airing June 14, 2009).
Many of these songs are now in regular rotation on XM Satellite Radio's "Bluesville" station. Since the release of this CD, Wanda & Shrimp City Slim (producer/accompanist) have toured France, Italy, China, Poland, Czech Republic, Germany, Slovakia, and have played the Chicago Blues Festival, Pocono Blues Festival, Lake Eden Arts Festival, and other major events.
Anyone who loves a top-notch female singer will be delighted with the purchase of this remarkable CD.
