Peter Gelling - Bluestime Peter Gelling

Bitrate:320K/s
Year:1999
Time:49:45
Size:114,0 MB
Label:Bent Notes Records
Styles:Blues/Aussie Blues
Art:Front

Tracks Listing:
 1. Bluestime - 3:27
 2. Echoes - 6:07
 3. Snake Oil - 4:21
 4. Movin' South - 2:22
 5. My Only True Friend is the Blues. - 6:06
 6. Blues Singing Dog - 2:58
 7. I'm Goin' Home - 3:56
 8. Blues for Otto - 4:18
 9. Watch Your Step - 3:49
10. Worried Mind - 3:05
11. Goin' Down Slow (Special Version) - 9:11

Peter, being a multi-instrumentalist, plays most of the instruments on the album, but he does use a couple of 'guest' musicians on some tunes, and he also wrote ten of the album's eleven tunes. Peter doesn't sing a lot so he's enlisted Robert Susz from The Mighty Reapers and Wayne Jury from Bridie King to help out in that department, Robert Susz of course, first rose to distinction as vocalist in the Dynamic Hepnotics. Peter Gelling was the Founder and Musical Director of the blues band Blind Freddie, performing since 1987, and has had more than 20 years experience, he's even released his own series of blues guitar instruction books. Some of the artists Blind Freddie supported are; Albert King, Junior Wells, Canned Heat, Little Charlie and The Nightcats, John Hammond, Maria Muldaur and Rod Piazza and The Mighty Flyers. Peter has also worked with Wendy Saddington, Margaret Roadknight, The Foreday Riders, The Mighty Reapers, and many more. This accumulated knowledge and experience is obvious when listening to Peter's solo debut CD which incidentally, was recorded partially in Adelaide, and partly in Sydney. The album's title track, Bluestime, a harmonica lead instrumental sets the pace for the album as it roars along as bold as brass, before heading into one of the most extraordinary recordings I've ever heard, Echoes is another instrumental tune, but Peter has wound the music around some dialogue from the late, great Howlin' Wolf and a lady called Margie Evans. The Howlin' Wolf dialogue is from the MCA Box Set released a couple of years ago with over 70 of the Wolf's tunes and a few short spoken stories from his life. Peter obtained permission from Howlin' Wolf's estate to use some of this dialogue and the end result, is nothing short of spectacular. Sounding as though this was how it was meant to be, it's a hauntingly exquisite work of art, and when Margie Evans begins her piece, shivers will run up your spine, the anguish, and the pride of the woman, will touch your heart. Another superb tune is My Only True Friend Is The Blues, a slow blues song with strong vocals from Wayne Jury, nice Hammond Organ strains throughout, and glorious guitar. Movin' South is an upbeat, vibrant little instrumental which will have your foot tapping non-stop. Peter next lets us know that he has a sense of humour with Blues Singing Dog, which sees a Blue Cattle Dog singing harmonies with Peter's harmonica, I kid you not. Very cleverly done, Peter told me that the mutt demanded his fee in dog biscuits, and why not, he's also on the front cover of the liner. It's difficult to fault this album, good song follows good song, the gorgeous instrumental Blues For Otto almost had this old cynic weeping. I'm not sure who 'Otto' is, but I bless him for inspiring Peter to write that tune. Watch Your Step and Worried Mind conclude the Peter Gelling originals. The latter tune there could have been my theme song with it's woe-is-me attitude, majestic stuff. And the final tune, penned by James Oden, is Goin' Down Slow, which Peter treats lovingly, is slow blues at their very finest. I cannot say enough good things about this CD which I regard as an authentic masterpiece. On a scale of one to ten, I would give it a twelve, there is not a weak point anywhere in my opinion, hence my bald statement, the very best Australian album I've ever heard ~ South Australian Blues Society, 1999

Steve Rowe – Quebec Guitar Hero!  Master blues guitarist Steve Rowe has earned his solid reputation !
Career highlights include the Spectra Presentation – Opening for the legendary Buddy Guy at Montreal’s Metropolis Theatre; Colin James at The Montreal Spectrum; Bryan Lee on his Quebec Tour and jamming with blues legend Hubert Summlin. Canada’s Prime Minister of the Blues Dutch Mason had a young Steve once play with his band, inviting him to “Take it away, son” on the evening’s first solo.  He mastered his craft while backing up many headliners on the Montreal blues scene. Smokey Wilson’s advice to Steve was simple: “You’re an honest bluesman. Don’t ever change.”
Montreal CHOM radio’s Randy Renaud called Rowe a “head-down, have-guitar-will-travel professional who derives his greatest satisfaction from songs and notes perfectly delivered”. He was right. As is Rowe’s style, every note is deliberate and each tone carries meaning.
Accolades include 15 Nominations fron the Quebec Lys Blues Awards for Best CD and Best Guitarist, and all five of his CDs have made it into the Top 20 CDs in the US Living Blues Charts, as well Toronto’s Maple Blues Mag. Highlights from Steve’s third studio recording, Front Rowe Center, include a nationwide broadcast on Rogers TV, live from the Ottawa Bluesfest in 2005.
Steve’s band is a regular event with Spectra, booked frequently at The Montreal’s International Jazz Festival as well as other related events. Festiblues de Montréal has showcased him almost every year since it’s inception. Steve’s tours have taken to Bluesfests across Canada, including Ottawa, Edmunston, Sutton, Trois Rivieres, Toronto, James Bay, Noranda, Chicoutimi, and Vancouver, to name a few.
Steve was also a “Blues Brother” in the popular YTV teen series Prank Patrol for their season premiere. Feature film releases Teddy Bear and Seven Days have also chosen numerous songs from Steve’s large original repertoire for their sound tracks. CBC’s Homerun used his music for their opening theme for 3 years. Coaching actor Christian Kane for his blues guitar-playing role in MTV’s feature Love Song, as well as recording the solo guitar parts for the film, was a huge thrill. Steve’s television premiere for Bravo Television’s Café Campus en Blues in ‘97 was his first major National exposure.
He formed  his first band Skid Rowe with Bob Smith in 1981. His influences come from 1950s Chicago and 60s British blues,  with a huge helping of Michael Bloomfield, all the Kings (Freddie, Albert, and B.B.), Johnny Winter and Eric Clapton. After honing his skills on blues standards, Rowe decided to start writing his own lyrics and music, releasing his first CD in 2000 entitled Driving the Blues Away. This is when he first met Sound Engineer Kevin Komada, Hotel2Tango’s Recording Studio, and Mastering Artist Andrew Heermans of Polywog Recording Company (NYC). This team can take much of the credit for the rich and pure tones of each instrument. Staying true to his roots, Steve and the band record live off the floor straight to two inch analogue tape.
Steve, acknowledged by Canada’s ITunes and International press as a “Guitar Hero”, has firmly established himself as an original Canadian Bluesman.

John Logan’s musical journey spans decades and genres, deeply rooted in folk, blues, and jazz. However, it was in the 1960s Bay Area scene where Logan truly immersed himself in performing. Playing at iconic clubs like The Jabberwocky in Berkeley, he honed his skills, absorbing influences from folk and flamenco. The 1970s saw Logan exploring blues and jazz influences while living in Wyoming. He studied under Berklee-trained guitarist Ron McClure, delving into composition, jazz fusion, and experimental performances. The Michael Terry Group - Bighead Baby

Tracks Listing:
 1. Bighead Baby - 3:14
 2. Why You Wanna Scream On Me - 3:47
 3. Here To Stay - 0:21
 4. Muddy World - 1:49
 5. Too Bad - 1:34

 8. Whooped - 3:54
 9. Takin' Names - 3:30
10. She My Baby - 3:26
11. Hard To Find My Way - 4:06

"Bighead Baby" is The Michael Terry Group's debut CD. The band, from St. Louis, MO, consists of Michael Terry on vocals and guitars, Jan "Jan-Jan" Cameron on bass, Michael Schmidt on drums, and Steve "Weepin' One Take" Wamser on keyboards. The CD features eleven original and well done tracks. The disc opens with the catchy title track "Bighead Baby". Now I could be wrong, but I'm thinkin' that telling your baby she has a big head has to be right up there - on the things not to say list - with telling her she has a big butt. With it's humorous lyrics, this foot tappin' / knee slappin' / head bobbin' shuffle is highlighted by real tight and steady rhythm and great guitar and piano leads. "Why You Wanna Scream On Me?" could very well be the discs best track. The groove that Jan-Jan, Michael and Steve have themselves locked into is as awesome as Michael's scorching guitar leads and vocals. This three and a half minute track should have been at least six or seven minutes longer, but several replays took care of that. Real good stuff right here. One of the discs more progressive tracks is "Mama Raised A Fool". This one's an all out free for all with everyone wailin' away. The mix of hot funk coming from the rhythm section, along with the wild guitar chords and psychedelic sounds created by the piano, had me thinking Sly and the Family Stone on steroids. Whoa! In spite of some great musical support, "What Would I Do?" is one of those tracks where the intensity of the lyrics, and the emotional way in which they are sung, absolutely steal the song. This melancholy ballad has Michael wondering about the same things everyone who loves someone might wonder about - should that loved one all of a sudden be gone. It's songs like this that would get my "song of the year" vote. Great work, Michael! On this all out jam, the band's kickin' ass and "Takin' Names". Depending on where your speakers are located, you just might want to be concerned with your smoke alarms going off when this one gets going. The scorching guitar licks, the fiery rhythm and the blazing piano are all throwing out some serious heat. Other rockin', funky and blues filled tracks on "Bighead Baby" include: "Here to Stay", "Muddy World", "Too Bad:, "Whooped", "She's My Baby", and "Hard To Find My Way".

12. Hurts Me Too - 5:21
13. Pippa is a Ripper - 2:45
14. Walk a Mile in My Shoes - 4:22

A proud product of Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, Paulie clearly understands the rowdy, rhythmic drive of the Blues but to call him a Blues revivalist is much the same as calling T-Bone Burnett a sideman. Dig deeper into the Bignell oeuvre and his tangled root system of Rockabilly, Country, soulful R&B and flat-out Rock n Roll becomes apparent.
Paulie Bignell has established a reputation as one of Australia’s leading songwriters, guitarists and performers with his rock'n'roll jump-blues band The Detonators. In 2011, he took the bigger jump and released his first solo album - Red Eye Flight. Teaming with 'The Thornbury Two" (Peter Beulke and Craig Hadlow), Paulie is now releasing his sophomore effort. Paulie’s songwriting is a stand out feature again. His wry humour tackling issues such as a malfunctioning GPS (GPS), the joys of drinking all day (You Can’t Drink All Day If You Don’t Start In The Morning), and the attraction of retro (Life In The Past Lane), the sister in law of the future King of England (Pippa Is A Ripper), amongst other gems. “Lost & Dangerous... is Rock’n’Roll’Blues from the suburbs” - Paulie Bignell.

There are no exceptional songs here, but no bad songs either. The musicianship is terrific, especially Jon's great funky guitar work, and terrific sax and trumpet work from the great back up band. Jon Justice also deserves great credit for penning the fourteen tracks here. A really great listen.

Northern Nevada is Reno and Sparks, casinos and open spaces. It's not the home of the blues. But amid all of this Western grandeur is Jason King Roxas and his fellow musicians, the Jason King Band.
Born in the Philippines in 1973 of Japanese and Castilian ancestry, Jason King Roxas (vocals and guitar) immigrated to Los Angeles in 1980 and began playing guitar in the church choir during high school. His band consists of Wilbert Banks (bass), Michael Patrick Moore (drums), and Tommy Stiles (guitar, lap slide, and pedal steel) with guest appearances by Pat Dotson (drums), Jason Stanton (keyboards), Freddie Mills (harmonica), and Rick Metz (saxes). The first thing I noticed was the well-crafted sound of Blues Skies and Black Shoes. Great performances that were really well recorded, not something you will always find in this era of the everyman's home studio. Hands off to Todd Rold at Watersign Studios in Reno for his recording, engineering, and mixing, as well as Jason King Roxas and Todd for their work as producers.A highlight of the CD for me was "Cryin' Shame". It is a nice, slow blues that Jason Stanton drops some tasty piano behind. Mr. Roxas noodles through some classic riffs and sizzles with his solos.I found "Broken" and "6 Years Gone" to be excellent acoustic blues numbers with yearning guitar work that will break your heart. While "Driftin'" and "SoulShaker" try to rip the doors off with vocals and guitar playing that Stevie Ray would be proud to hear. Jason is in total control of his voice and his other instrument, his Strat.
This CD is very good with some moments of greatness. All eleven tracks are original compositions and seem to show a good range in style and ability. Jason's guitar playing is both masterful and emotional, and the band lays down a solid groove and contributes textures and key solos that push this CD beyond the typical first album for a band ~ by Steve "Fly" Klein/

A.G. Weinberger & The Vagabonds return with "Sharing", the tenth studio album by A.G. Weinberger, and will be released on April 14, 2026. The album contains 12 new songs and marks a new phase in the career of one of Romania's most respected blues and rock artists.
Florentin Streche: How did the idea for this new album come about, especially since you have already celebrated 40 years of career?
AG Weinberger: Honestly, I had no plans to make another record. Last year was a very important anniversary year for me: 60 years of life and 40 years of activity. I felt at peace with what I had already done. The two editorial volumes had appeared, there were concerts with a special charge, very intense, very intimate, and I felt that perhaps that was a sufficiently rounded moment in itself. I no longer felt the need to demonstrate something through new studio material. However, sometimes things do not happen according to our strict will, but through a kind of alignment of energies. My wife was one of the people who pushed me, in a good way, towards this idea. She said to me very directly: "What do you mean, stop making records?" At the same time, I received a phone call from Norbert Kovács, whom I knew from other projects. He told me that he had a studio, that maybe it would be a good idea for me to stop by and see what it was like, without any obligation. From close to close, all these emotional and human impulses took me one day to Târgu Mureș. That's where the trigger came. That's how it all started.

Over the years, Tallahassee has been privileged to have some incredible musical talents call the city home. Among them is a guy named Bill Wharton. Although fans from Crawfordville to Katmandu know him as “The Sauce Boss.”  Wharton – with a sly take on his popular nom de plume – is calling his latest collection of tunes, “With Extra Sauce.” Each track has that unmistakable slinky, swampy groove that’s become as much a trademark as the gumbo cooking he does to close out his live shows. But Wharton also says the new music contains some brand-new sounds: including a homebuilt guitar with a cast-iron skillet body.  “Some people say the poet writes the same thing over and over again. I don’t know what the exact words are. But you do this one thing and you reinvent it when you do a different song. But deep down, every one is talking about love!”
Wharton says there’s another element in his songs. It’s a bit like those temporal anomalies in Star Trek in which old memories reappear and then morph into new memories. “Remember that time? Remember that?! When they’re happening, that’s what makes you create. ‘Hey, I want to tell y’all about this!’ That’s basically what it is.”
Which brings us to Wharton’s “With Extra Sauce.”
“Brett Crook played the drums on it for us. And Neal Goree played guitar. And Kendrick Jacobs played bass. And I’ll tell you; those gentlemen were smokin’! And we had a real good time at the studio out at my place. And my wife Ruthie has seen me make 18 albums and this is her favorite.” ~  Copyright 2026 WFSU

Well, if you don’t like 'Dirt' you won’t like Mississippi Shakedown, and we’re not talking about the kind of dirt you see hanging around a building site, or the dirt you hear about the fella next door who never seems to go to work, but has folk delivering 'stuff' to his door day and night. We're talking about the dirt that comes from a guitar amplifier, that’s been turned up way too loud for your Grandmother, the kind of distortion you don’t hear much of these days – no $29 guitar distortion pedal used here, it’s real distortion coming from an old Amplifier.  Nothing new is used on Mississippi Shakedown songs, they use old Microphones, old guitars, old drums and cymbals, old Amplifiers, hell they even drive an Oldsmobile…!!!
Do they sound old? Yep, you’re darn tootin’ they do and the young folk love them cause they ain’t heard nothin’ like them before. God bless 'em, they think they’re hearing some updated “South of the Mason Dixon Line” kinda rockin’ Blues and the kids think it’s all new, but Mississippi Shakedown ain’t gonna tell ‘em, might spoil their Latte coffee drinking..!!
Mississippi Shakedown is a band with a minimum of fuss and a maximum of effect… a 3-piece live combo led by award winning Producer-Engineer-Songwriter Jeff Cripps … with a “Don’t Bore Us, Get to the Chorus” attitude.
They have played all the main Oz Blues venues, Goulburn, Thredbo, Sydney, Forth Valley (Tas) Blues Festivals, Yungaburra Folk Festival, Launceston Blues Club (Tas) and The West Coast Blues Club (W.A.).
Each of their albums have been Top 5 in the Oz Blues Charts.Jeff Cripps is a 3 time “Blues Producer of the Year” and internationally recorded songwriter, Disney Films have even used 4 of his songs..!!

In the 1960s, the rhythms of northern New Jersey pulsed hard with urgency. Perhaps it was because of its dense population of first generation European immigrants getting thrown together with the mass migration of Latinos from South America, Mexico, and Cuba, combined with the surge of African Americans who sojourned their way north from the southern states in the nation’s post–WWII second Great Migration. It was here, in North Jersey, in the grayness, grit, din, and relentless rush-hour traffic, amidst cold and crumbling rusted steel bridges and dark overpasses, beneath looming loading cranes that towered like prehistoric skeletons over billowing refineries and post-apocalyptic swamplands, at the last chance and final stop on the New Jersey Turnpike, that Peter Karp was born.
This set pays a blues homage to Peter Karp’s home state: New Jersey. Land of Sinatra, Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons, Nancy Sinatra, Young Rascals, Billy Falcon, Al DiMeola, Count Basie, Tim Bogert (Vanilla Fudge), Bon Jovi, Donald Fagan, Pat DiNizio (Smithereens), Connie Francis, Cissy & Whitney Houston, Ricky Nelson, Joe Lynn Turner, Sarah Vaughn, Tom Verlaine, Dionne Warwick, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Paul Simon, a guy named Springsteen, Debbie Harry (Blondie) by way of FL & Patti Smith by way of Chicago. My point?
Karp is in good company. He has hard acts to follow. Let him toss the dice. His 11 tracks on his 13th LP, Jersey Town (Drops April 17/Rose Cottage Records/42:05), explore loss, love, faith, fate, murder, hope & desperation, with support from guitarists Rick Vito, Sue Foley, & Mark Johnson & an endorsement from Rolling Stones guitarist Mick Taylor.

Son Lewis (born Andrew Lewis, December 11, 1951, Paterson, New Jersey) is an American blues singer and guitarist. He was nicknamed "Son" or "Sonny" by his family, to differentiate him from his father, Andrew Lewis Sr. He is the son of former soldier and businessman Andrew Lewis Sr. (whose photo is used on Lewis' "Dignified" CD cover) and his wife, Frances Frano. He has one sister, Michele.
Although not coming from a musical family, he was influenced by his cousin Carl Lewis, who exposed him to Delta and Chicago blues at a very young age. Lewis started playing guitar in 1964, studying under the R&B guitarist Dennis Gorgas, and later with Danny Kalb, founder and leader of The Blues Project. During that time, Lewis performed with The Avlons (on bass guitar) and fronted The Strangers and The Love Merchants (vocals and rhythm guitar) performing covers of "Blue-eyed Soul", Motown and STAX hits. By late 1968, Lewis had begun visiting the folk and blues clubs of New York City's Greenwich Village. After witnessing a performance by John P. Hammond at Gerde's Folk City, he was determined to begin performing as a solo acoustic performer. In early 1969, Lewis became a regular fixture at "open mics" and "hootenanys" in and around the New York/New Jersey area, singing and playing acoustic blues guitar in the Delta and Piedmont styles. These performances resulted in several paid gigs as an opening or support act at The Coffeehouse at Fairleigh Dickenson University in New Jersey. During that period, Lewis opened shows for The Manhattan Transfer (when they were a folk group), comedian Chris Rush, Melissa Manchester, J.F. Murphy and Free Flowing Salt.
In 1974, Lewis re-incorporated electric guitar into his repertoire and shortly thereafter formed The Son Lewis Blues Band, which has featured members of Mink DeVille, Exuma, Rockett 88, Impact and The Ricki Lee Jones Band.
Since 1979, he has appeared on numerous albums, primarily for New Jersey's Silk City Records and has appeared on numerous compilation albums. In 1996, he was selected by The Skyland Blues Society to represent Northern New Jersey in the 'International Blues Competition', held by the Blues Foundation in Memphis, Tennessee. He has also appeared on a number of local television programs and has over 25 live radio broadcasts to his credit.

Thomas McCoy Band (with Levon Helm & Garth Hudson) - Angels Serenade

Bitrate:320K/s
Year:2004

Label:Green Swamp Records

10. Talkin' To Myself - 2:53
11. Runaway Train - 6:01
12. I'm Your Toy (Hot Burrito #1) - 3:36

The tracks on Angels Serenade were recorded at Levon Helm Studios in 2003, with Levon Helm and Garth Hudson guesting. The album was first released in 2004 as a "Thomas McCoy Band" CD in the US, and then again in the UK in 2008 with the group renamed to "Helm, Hudson & McCoy."
The front cover of this CD lists the artist as Helm, Hudson & McCoy, but when you pop Angels Serenade into your download-equipped computer, the menu credits it to Thomas McCoy, and in all honesty this music sounds more like the work of that journeyman blues man than a true collaboration. The Helm and Hudson listed on the cover are Levon Helm and Garth Hudson of the Band, and the sessions were recorded at Helm's studio in Woodstock, NY; McCoy eagerly plays up his associations with these landmark musicians in the liner notes, and there's no arguing that they're sidemen nearly anyone would be proud to have on their recording project. But neither Levon or Garth contributed to the songwriting or the production, and while they add a faint taste of the Band's signature sound to these recordings, McCoy is front and center on this disc - he wrote nine of the twelve songs, plays lead guitar, and sings most of the lead vocals, handing four over to his brother Doug. And while McCoy is a solid guitarist and not bad with a tune, as a lyricist he's a far, far cry from Robbie Robertson or Richard Manuel, with Ace in the Hole, Sentenced to Love, and Blue Water Runs Deep sounding just as hokey as their titles, and he turns Ray Charles' Hey Now into an unfortunately generic sounding blues workout. Levon Helm and Garth Hudson seem to have been elevated from backing musicians to headliner status largely to help Angels Serenade in the marketplace, and while they deliver the fine performances you'd expect, ultimately this is a Tommy McCoy album and it isn't likely to bowl over Helm or Hudson's more discriminating fans. The Second Chapter
During 2024, the band retreated inward — not to disappear, but to evolve.  While continuing their parallel careers as professional session musicians, they dedicated themselves to writing and recording what would become their second studio album:
Blues For The Lost Souls, scheduled for release in March 2026.
This record represents a deeper descent and a higher climb. More mature. More reflective. More courageous. Among its tracks stands the socially resonant “Peace Is More Than Just No War” — a reminder that silence is not harmony, and absence of conflict is not justice. The album also features a special appearance by British blues artist Bex Marshall on “Mojo Hoodoo,” strengthening the band’s spiritual connection to the lineage that first inspired them.
A Name, A Statement.
The name The Damn Dogs was never chosen for shock. It was chosen for solidarity. It speaks for the outcasts, the restless, the misunderstood — those who live slightly outside the frame yet refuse to disappear. It is a banner for dignity in imperfection. On stage, The Damn Dogs are electric and human at once. Angelo commands without arrogance. Damiano burns without excess. Pablo drives like a heartbeat that refuses to slow. Andrea grounds everything with gravity and groove. They are elegant yet raw. Deep yet immediate.
Classic yet fiercely alive. Not a retro act.Not a trend. But a band built on years, miles, sweat and vision. And their story is only beginning.

The Damn Dogs were officially formed in Milan in 2021, but their story began decades earlier — in smoky clubs, under dim lights, on small stages where passion mattered more than fame and songs were measured in heartbeats rather than streams. At the center of it all stands Angelo Albani — a frontman carved out of classic rock mythology and modern resilience. His voice does not simply sing; it narrates, commands, confesses. Rooted in the great rock tradition yet unmistakably personal, it carries echoes of another era while remaining fiercely contemporary. Long before The Damn Dogs took shape, Angelo had already walked many stages. He has appeared in numerous television shows, bringing his unmistakable tone to wide audiences. As a highly sought-after session vocalist and songwriter, he continues to lend his voice and pen to major advertising campaigns — both as performer and author — shaping melodies that reach millions. Yet beyond screens and studios, the stage remains his natural habitat. There, under the lights, he becomes what he was always meant to be: a storyteller of the electric kind. By his side since 1999 stands Damiano Marino, lead guitarist and musical counterpart in a partnership forged through years of acoustic performances. Their duo years were not a prelude — they were a foundation. Night after night, they learned to breathe in sync, to leave space, to ignite tension with a glance. Damiano’s guitar speaks fluently in fire and silk. His solos rise like sparks from asphalt, never excessive, always intentional. When he is not shaping soundscapes with six strings, he can be found climbing the steepest mountain passes on his racing bicycle — chasing altitude the same way he chases tone: with discipline, endurance and quiet obsession. That relentless pursuit lives inside his playing.  In the early 2000s, during one of those live performances, fate introduced them to Pablo Leoni. A drummer with the heart of a traveler and the stamina of a marathoner, Pablo plays as if rhythm were oxygen. A promise was made that night — someday, they would form a real band. Years passed. Life unfolded. Music never stopped. After two transformative years in the Netherlands, Angelo returned to Italy with renewed fire and a sharpened vision. The time had come. The promise would be kept. The band took shape.
And then came the final piece: Andrea Vismara, bassist. Grounded, precise, instinctive. His bass does not merely support — it converses, pulses, anchors. Together with Pablo, he forms a rhythm section that moves like a single organism. Pablo and Andrea are tireless road warriors. When not performing with The Damn Dogs, they are often on tour across Europe with American, Canadian and British artists — carrying groove across borders, stages and languages. Their experience on international circuits gives the band a rhythmic backbone both seasoned and explosive. The First Chapter
In June 2022, The Damn Dogs released their self-titled debut album — thirteen original tracks that defined their sound: powerful guitars, groove-driven rhythms and a voice that cuts through the contemporary blues rock scene with rare character. The record established them not as revivalists, but as torchbearers. Inspired by the great British blues rock tradition yet unwilling to imitate it, they forged something both classic and urgent. Between 2022 and 2024, the band performed around fifty concerts across Italy and abroad, including Switzerland and Germany. Each stage became an extension of their identity — intense, soulful, unfiltered. In June 2025, Angelo and Damiano returned to the essence of their journey, performing at the Caslano Festival in Switzerland in acoustic duo format. No walls of sound. No armor. Just strings, wood and truth.

The Silver King Band had three fully-functional front-persons in Flo Mingo, St. Petey Twig, & Rock Bottom. Their set lists were packed with rockabilly long before The Stray Cats reignited interest in the genre, and like Brian & The Boys, they wore only the most stylish vintage clothing, & were more popular in Europe than in the States.  But they accomplished it without a guitarist!  Their billing often changed from The Silver King Band to The Silver King Rhythm Band, but their line-up was consistent.  Piano pounder St. Petey Twig was the ringmaster & generally introduced the songs.  Lead vocals were evenly distributed between him, the washboard playing Flo Mingo, and harmonica player Rock Bottom. Rock’s blues pedigree is pure—his brother-in-law was the blues singer Roy Book Binder, and blues legend Eddie Kirkland played on The Silver King Band’s live album Live At The Dive.  He often filled the spaces a lead guitarist would.  Rock continued to release albums after the band broke up.  Flo Mingo retired, & St. Petey Twig became a solo act in The Florida Keys as Barry Cuda.

Jon Butcher Axis - Stare At The Sun

10. Breakout - 3:10

For a time in the early 1980’s it looked like as if Jon Butcher’s career would know no bounds. As anyone who picked up a copy of the self-titled Jon Butcher Axis album upon its original release in 1983 would concur, here was a star on the rise. Such an upwards trajectory was well deserved given his undeniable talent, the quality of that debut and the ensuing sophomore affair “Stare at the Sun”. Indeed both albums should have resulted in greater rewards than they ultimately did at the time.  Although Jon would enjoy a good deal of recognition for later recorded work, such as “Wishes” (released under his own name rather than the band handle), perhaps the answer to any questions that are asked over Butcher’s lack of bigger and more sustained success may be allied to the one that asks “why has it taken well over thirty years for his first two records to be officially released on CD? Sure, several of the best tracks from both albums have surfaced on compilations of Jon’s work but never before has either album been issued on its entirety on a silver shiny disc. That is about to change… Jon had an obsession with the guitar from age 5 and his first real band was called Johanna Wild, a band that certainly caught the attention of many people…. his influences including BB King, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck and Buddy Guy. Many people believe that “Stare at the Sun” was Jon’s finest work and claim it to be the best album he ever released under any moniker. Songs like “Wind it up” and “Don’t say Goodnight” are certainly songs that deserve your attention.
The result of his success afforded further growing popularity for the band, which added the opportunity to tour with Rush ('Signals' tour '83),Def Leppard ('Pyromania' tour '83) and Scorpions ('Hurricane' tour '84). amongst others. Jon Butcher has an undeniable talent and this 10 track album from the classic early eighties era shows just what this man had to offer.

Tommy McCoy - Late In The Lonely Night

Tracks Listing:
 1. Late In The Lonely Night - 4:01
 2. Angel On My Shoulder, Devil On My Back - 4:49
 3. Never Shoulda Listened - 3:46
 4. Too Late To Turn Back Now - 3:28
 5. Space Master - 4:11
 6. Language Of Love - 4:38
 7. Cars, Bars, And Guitars - 3:30
 8. Life's Tides - 2:44
 9. Dance You Pants Off - 4:21
10. Treat Her Like A Lady - 3:28
11. My Guitar Won't Play Nothin' But The Blues - 2:44

This set showcases Tommy and his working band (anchored by bassist Big Al Razz and drummer Pug Baker) doing what they do best: contemporary electric blues. McCoy’s confident vocals and concise, stinging guitar connect like a laser beam from first note to last. He’s a strong songwriter too; there are only two non-originals on this entire set (well-chosen ones at that). Listening to this set makes it obvious what Michael heard in Tommy’s repertoire. There’s a strong sense of tradition within the Warren, Ohio native’s up-to-the-minute approach; his primary influences on guitar include B.B., Albert, and Freddie King and T-Bone Walker. The steady-simmering title track opens the set in an atmospheric minor-key mode before McCoy lays down the law on the sleek and clever “My Guitar Won’t Play Nothin’ But The Blues.” “I’ve got a big old Gibson guitar; it has paid its share of dues,” declares Tommy, who writes from personal experience… The saucy “Never Shoulda Listened” is a swaggering vocal duet with Karyn Denham powered by Liz Pennock’s muscular barrelhouse piano, while the funky “Angel On My Shoulder, Devil On My Back” is driven by Baker’s marching drum groove and spiced by the pungent slide guitar of young Joel Tatangelo. “I try to point out the dichotomy between positive and negative,” says McCoy of its storyline. “It’s got kind of an eerie feel to it.” Rick Hatfield’s harmonica winds through the tempo-shifting “Scattered And Smothered” (no feuding between Hatfield and McCoy here), while the R&B-tinged “Language Of Love” sports more tasty female vocal backing from Denham. There’s also room for a lighthearted “Dance Your Pants Off,” and “Spacemaster” features high-energy give-and-take between Tommy’s axe and Pug’s traps. “We do that, and the crowd just goes nuts,” says Tommy. The introspective “Life’s Tides” is a distinct departure from the rest of the disc. “That’s what I call one of my inspirational songs,” says Tommy of the latter. “It started off as a poem.”
