Miss Erica Brown is a Singer, Songwriter, Recording Artist and Actress based in Denver, CO. She has been singin’ the blues all her life and has truly seen and lived the Blues. As she shares her gifts with the world, the world has taken notice, from publications like Living Blues and Chicago Blues Guide in the US to Blues Matters in the UK, and Rootstime in Belgium. 
Erica has long been a mainstay in Colorado’s Music scene.  From 1998-2008, as frontwoman for the Award-winning Erica Brown Band, Erica electrified audiences all over the Rocky Mountain region with the band’s brand of searing blues rock. The band won nearly every award the region offered, including Best Blues Band (Westword Magazine) Best Underground Blues Band (Denver Post, multiple years) and The Rocky Mountain News’ Best of in the Blues Category. The band released two critically acclaimed CD’s, “Body Work” in 2000, and “Rough Cut Stone” in 2003. Erica was dubbed “Denver’s Queen of the Blues”, a moniker that was used by the Altitude Network in their concert showcase feature “OnStage”, which was broadcast to five million households in ten western states in 2005. 
In 2008, Erica began her Solo career.
In 2013, Dan Treanor’s Afrosippi Band featuring Erica Brown garnered 3rd Place Honors in the International Blues Challenge (IBC) sponsored by the Blues Foundation in Memphis, TN.  That year, over two hundred bands competed in what is the premier competition for blues bands worldwide. 
In 2016, Erica was contacted by Grammy-nominated Bluesman Carl Gustafson, (Blinddog Smokin’ Blues Band) and was asked to contribute vocals to a project he was producing, along with 2017 Grammy Winner in Traditional Blues, Blues Man Bobby Rush. That project has blossomed into the epic music novel “MOJA: A Music Saga”, the story of Rush’s family, the Ellis Family. Erica voices Bobby’s Rush’s ancestress on the song “She Did What She Had to Do.”  Artists from around the world have contributed to this incredible telling of an important African and American Story.
Along with Rush on harmonica, a fraction of the other musicians on the project include “The 500” (the 500 musicians and artists on this incredible Project!!) Blues Woman Teeny Tucker (daughter of Tommy Tucker, writer of the 1963 Hit “Hi Heel Sneakers”), Ms. Tata Vega (the “musical voice” of the character “Shug” in the movie The Color Purple), gospel vocalists The McCrary Sisters, 2020 US Artists Fellow Dom Flemons, Harmonica Master Billy Branch, vocalist Natalie Cadet, famed gospel, rock, blues, jazz and funk B-3 organist Cory Henry, along with Mississippi Hill Country blues (and sons of R.L. Burnside) brothers Gary and Duwayne Burnside, Blues Guitar master Lightnin’ Malcolm, African Folklorist and master Djembe player Weedie Braimah, West African Ngoni Master Bassekou Kouyate, Cuban drummer Pedrito Martinez, multi-instrumentalist Fabian Chavez, guitarist George Dez, and scores more Artists!! The massive, 8-volume project released in early 2022, in individual Volumes. 
Erica has been awarded Colorado’s Five Points Jazz Festival’s Tribute Award for significant and lasting contributions to music and culture in the historically African-American Five Points Neighborhood, and throughout Colorado!

In 2016, what would become a double page “Center-Magazine-Splash” photo of Erica taken during the Women In Blues Showcase by Superstar Photographer Danny Clinch was featured in Smithsonian Magazine’s Historic September 2016 companion issue for the opening of the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) in Washington DC.  Attendees of the Museum opening on September 24, 2016 included a Dedication by then-President Barack Obama.  Erica is deeply honored to be included in such a special Smithsonian issue.  
Erica has been featured in a number of stage productions throughout her career.  In 2018 Erica took a star turn as the character Nancy Foster in Emancipation Theater Company’s World Premiere of its’ inaugural stage production Honorable Disorder. The show received rave reviews from multiple publications, including the Denver Center for the Performing Arts (DCPA).

Blues/jazz guitarist Phil Upchurch hit the nail on the head when he compared vocalist James Van Buren's interpretation skills to those of Joe Williams and Billie Holiday. Even better, Upchurch's "you can hear him smiling" captures the vocalist's warm sound, a sound that's had artists like Lou Rawls, T-Bone Walker, and Irene Reid seek out Van Buren for collaborations. Born in Arrow Rock, Missouri, Van Buren started sharing his love of blues and jazz with the public in 1956 when he formed the Blues Kings in Kansas City. He was amused when a European reporter called him an "archeological find" in the '90s, since he had been a hard touring, popping-up-here-and-there sideman (often as a drummer) since starting the Blues Kings. Colorado jazz and blues fans got to know him well when he made Denver his new home but everyone else didn't get to hear much of the man until 1985 when Van Buren formed his own label and released his debut, We Will Be Together Again. It's All Over followed and made NPR's Top 20 list, but it was 1989's I Ain't Doin' Too Bad and its "Three Handed Woman" (left-handed, right-handed, underhanded) that took the singer to the next level. Fans at the 1992 Utrecht Jazz Festival in Holland caused a commotion when they vigorously chanted for the song, and Van Buren has been successful on the European tour circuit ever since. From 1996 on, the Colorado Rockies baseball team have used Van Buren's "James' Baseball Song" as their anthem. In 2004 he released Live at the Kasbah with special guest Richie Cole. ~ David Jeffries

This is Boom Band's debut CD after pairing down from the 12-member R&B ensemble known as This Is It, which toured East Coast clubs and colleges in the early '90s. Boom Band is a name inspired by Dr. Suess' Oh, the Places You'll Go! This 14-song self-released collection was produced by Blues Traveler producer David Swanson (Save His Soul, Live From the Fall).

The Boom Band is a collective of multi-award-winning musicians who have all emerged from the British blues scene with reputations as first-class players, singers and songwriters. The five core band members, Jon Amor (The Hoax/solo), Marcus Bonfanti (solo/Ten Years After), Mark Butcher (solo/former England cricket hero!), Paddy Milner (solo/Jack Bruce/Phil Manzenera) and Matt Taylor (Snowy White Blues Project/The Motives). What started as a fun knockabout side project has manifested itself as an excellent debut album, with each member contributing songs, playing solid supporting roles, taking their turn as front-man and shining as solo instrumentalists. The material ranges from the joyous southern rock of Taylors We Can Work Together, the dirty blues of Bonfantis Diamonds in the Rust the smooth soul of Butchers Under the Skin to the radio-friendly country-pop of Sweet Alberta. Live, the unique four-guitar line-up provides the audience with a rich variety of sounds and styles, Paddy Milners piano and Hammond organ being the icing on the cake. The Booms played a number of key gigs in 2014 including dates in London, the main stage at RibsnBlues Festival in Holland, a headline spot at the Carlisle Rock & Blues Festival and as the house band for BBC Radio 2s Paul Jones annual charity concerts where they backed Van Morrison as well as performing in their own right. 2015 will see them performing at more and bigger festivals in the UK and beyond, including confirmed bookings at Maryport Blues Festival (main stage headline) and one of Europes biggest blues festivals Moulin Blues (NL). The band was founded in London in the early 1990’s by vocalist, harpist extraordinaire and stand-up comedian, Paul Vallis, a true transatlantic citizen of both the United Kingdom and the United States. Over its extended history the band has consisted of several incarnations, while always staying rooted in Vallis’ love for the blues and deep respect for the giants of the idiom. Vallis’ playing demonstrates his deep appreciation for the storied roots of the music, combined with his desire to break new ground and expand the boundaries for this distinct American-born and UK-brewed art form. Vallis relocated to Los Angeles in the late 1990’s and connected with Michigan native, guitarist Jeff “Big Red” Marshall, laying the early groundwork for the latest, all-star configuration of the band. Marshall is an accomplished guitarist and instructor who has toured the world with numerous artists. He also serves as the musical director, leader and primary songwriter for the group. In the years since Vallis and Marshall’s meeting, Bleeding Harp has been electrifying the Los Angeles blues circuit, including venues such as Harvelle’s, BB King's, Arcadia Blues Club, Catalina Island Blues Festival, Ireland’s 32, Camarillo Fiesta and Howl at The Moon. In 2004 the band released their debut recording, Gotta Have. Now several years later, Bleeding Harp features its most explosive and talented lineup yet, full of veteran LA musicians with diverse geographic and musical backgrounds who have come together to form a line-up ready to take the blues festival circuit by storm.
Other members of the group include guitarist and Toledo native, Jeff Kollman, whose storied career includes stints alongside UFO, Glenn Hughes and Micheal Schenker, in addition to a discography of solo albums and releases with his various groups, including Chad Smith’s Bombastic Meatbats (of Red Hot Chili Peppers fame), Cosmosquad and the Jeff Kollman Band, as well as numerous composition credits in film and television. Keyboardist and Boulder, Colorado native, Lao Tizer, is the founder and leader of the acclaimed world-jazz-fusion ensemble and the 2011 “Jazz Group of the Year” nominee that bears his last name, TIZER. Lao is also a former “Best New Jazz Artist” nominee whose credits include the Grammy-nominated groups Down To The Bone and Special EFX in addition to his 8 solo and group releases and performance credits around the globe. Bassist and Escanaba, Michigan native, Kevin Chown, grew up mere miles from “Big Red” unknowingly, before meeting Kollman in the early 1990’s and spending several years with their group collaboration, Edwin Dare. Chown’s long career includes credits alongside Chad Smith’s Bombastic Meatbats, Uncle Kracker and Tarja in addition to his countless credits in film and television composition and solo releases. Drummer and New York native Andy Sanesi brings a long list of credits as both a session player and as a member of groups including Nick Hexum Quintet, Julian Coryell Trio, Gryphon Labs and is a currently keeping time for beloved 80's band Missing Persons.
Together this new lineup has created a unique sound of blues based, rock inspired and soul influenced music combining covers from some of their favorite groups (The Allman Brothers, Robin Trower, Stevie Ray Vaughan) with their own originals. Hook Herrera—a Mexican-Native American musician who settled in our country a few years ago after wandering the U.S. West Coast playing in various dives and venues—set out to record this album with a more intimate, relaxed tone than his previous work. Chicago guitarist and vocalist Jamiah Rogers presents twelve tracks on ‘Chicago Cowboy: South Side Stories’, his first full-length album for Delmark Records. The release will be available digitally, on CD and LP. Rogers handles the vocals and guitars, supported by Isaiah “Zay” Horne on bass and Tyvon “Tank” Rice on drums. Larry Williams plays bass on Comin’ For Mine, while Amyna Love appears on I Know You Gotta Go. Most of the material was written by Rogers. The album also includes two blues bonus tracks, Leave My Little Girl Alone and Tell Me What I Say. Several songs have already appeared as singles, including the title track, Mojo Man and Comin’ For Mine.
The album was recorded, mixed and mastered at Delmark Riverside Studio by Julia A. Miller and Elbio Barilari. Miller also oversaw the executive production, with Jamiah Rogers serving as associate producer.

At 17-years-old, Jake Soberlak of Kamloops, British Columbia plays the blues with the authority of someone who has lived inside the music for half a century. Soberlak's path into the blues began with a discovery that reached across generations. Digging through a collection of his grandfather's old records brought over from England, he found something scratchy, raw and utterly alive that grabbed hold and never let go. He followed the threads the way devoted blues listeners always have, one name leading to another, one record to the next, building a deep self-education in a tradition more than a century old. B.B. King, Peter Green and Eric Clapton became his teachers. He picked up guitar at thirteen and harmonica at fourteen, and word soon spread through Kamloops that something special was happening. 
Soberlak cut his debut album at Afterlife Studios in Vancouver with producer and drummer Leon Power, known for his work with City and Colour and Frazey Ford. Power assembled a seasoned band for the dates, with Darren Parris on bass, the acclaimed Darryl Havers on piano and John Raham engineering. Every track went down live off the floor across two days, four musicians playing together in a room, capturing the spontaneity and feeling that the form demands. For a teenager recording his first album alongside players of that caliber, the experience proved joyful and affirming. "They're all great people and great musicians, and it was so much fun," Soberlak says. He approaches the music with a humility that runs deeper than his years. "Not all blues songs are sad," he explains. "It's really a reflection of life. I like finding songs from the 30s, 40s or 50s, these gems that I really connect with, and I enjoy giving them my own take once I've learned them." Soberlak has been building his live reputation across Kamloops and the surrounding region one room at a time, and his goals remain refreshingly uncomplicated. "I just want to be playing music and gigging," he says. "That's all I want to do." If you’re still grooving to the dusty, Bacardi-scented party that started with 2021’s ‘In the Blossom of Their Shade’ and continued on past dusk via ‘Rhumba Country’ three years later, don’t stop: Pokey LaFarge is back with a new record, the mood’s still loose, and his lyrics are as wry and winking as ever. But something deeper is burbling under the surface of ‘Rent Money,’ 11 unadorned tracks that mark LaFarge’s first full-length release on his own label, Boxer Boy Records. The atmosphere remains airy and sun-soaked on this record, produced by Elliot Bergman in a woodsy Chicagoland studio. With his brand of blues/honky-tonk/country guitar mastery and gospel-twinged vocals, LaFarge — not for the first time in his idiosyncratic career — has released a batch of songs that speak to an America limping through its 250th birthday. It may not be not a one-to-one comparison, but I’ve been thinking about what LaFarge said about his pathway into music during a blistering March performance at Cohoes Music Hall in upstate New York. It was the Grateful Dead at first — and more than two decades in, the similarities are apparent. Both are shapeshifters, moving between traditional music, rock, blues, and more. They can easily riff through a long jam and also write a tight pop song. They’re also uniquely themselves, honing a tone until it’s a sonic trademark. Along with the title track’s focus on the anxiety of making monthly rent, LaFarge here muses on “Work,” scratching out a living on the road, the futility of playing a rigged game, and the relative merits (in his eyes, few) of material things. We’re still having fun, but Woody Guthrie would sing these timeless tunes, too. As LaFarge acknowledges in press materials, these songs serve as a rumination on a country with a growing wealth gap and a restive population, one where pressed vinyl seems essential even when the price of everything keeps going up. “Got the world whistling the tune of his song,” LaFarge sings, sometimes moving to falsetto, on “Big Boss Man,” a story song suggestive of the devil. “You hate it and then you find yourself singing along.”
So where to turn if capitalism isn’t working for everyone?
This is also an album informed by LaFarge’s firm faith in Jesus and first-class ticket to the afterlife. On stage in recent years, sober, saved, and into his 40s, LaFarge has painted a picture of a veteran artist at the height of his powers who has finally figured out the personal life part of spending most of the year on the road. Now married to the singer Addie Hamilton, a game presence on stage and on this album, not to mention the mother of their new daughter, LaFarge says he has found peace among the plants on the family’s Maine homestead.  
“Everything can be bought or sold, but you know you can’t save your soul/Can’t take it with you when you go,” he reminds us on the jaunty “Can’t Take It With You.” The closer, “On And On,” is an elegiac bop, but it also recalls the revival tent world depicted in the 2020 drama “The Devil All The Time,” in which LaFarge has a small role. “If you don’t want to hear me singing/you can’t stop the news I’m bringing/When the chariot comes swinging low/You know your time’s up/On and on and on, after the lights go out/We all gotta go on and on and on.”
You don’t have to be receptive to the message to feel its power in this music. Have you heard the good news? Pokey LaFarge has god-given talent, and he’s making the most of it.

Pianist, composer and bandleader Anthony Geraci returns on September 18 with ‘Where Were You’, a new album released by Delmark Records. Across the album, Geraci brings together elements of Chicago blues, jazz, soul and American roots music, with his piano playing and songwriting at the centre of the recording. He is joined by his touring band as well as a sizeable group of musicians connected to the Chicago blues scene. A prominent role is reserved for Sheryl Youngblood, who contributes vocals to three of Geraci’s compositions and also plays drums. Other musicians appearing on the album include vocalist Barrence Whitfield, guitarists Dave Specter, Barrett Anderson and Jon McDonald, bassists Rodrigo Mantovani and Tom Terry, and drummers Nick Toscano, John Medeiros Jr. and Pooky Styx.The line-up is completed by Mario Perrett on saxophone and Anne Harris on violin, while Geraci himself handles piano, Hammond organ and vocals. All twelve compositions were written by Anthony Geraci. Six tracks are instrumentals, including Brooklyn Boogie, Caterpillar Dance, Rockin’ Til Dawn, Flowers for Marianne, Breaking Bread and the closing Suite: Blues.

Harrison Kennedy (born March 9, 1942) is a Black Canadian electric blues, R&B, and soul blues, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He is best known for being the lead vocalist on the Chairmen of the Board song, "Chairman of the Board",but has had a varied solo career since the mid-1970s.[3] He was awarded the 2016 "Blues Album of the Year" Juno Award for his release, This Is From Here. It was Kennedy's sixth nomination for that Award. He is also a Blues Music Award,[6] and multiple Maple Blues Award nominee.

Another veteran musician who played with Jorma Kaukonen, & Hot Tuna with his own sparkling solo project & heavy themes, like recovery, the journey back, some inspirational pieces, one with lyrics (“Cupful of Rain”) by the late Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter. This showcase is Michael’s 6th solo as Sunrise Over the Unknown (Hypnotation Records) produced by Michael (guitar/vocals) & J.P. (guitar/bgv). Recorded in studios in Bellmore, Woodstock, NY & Dallas, TX.
There are 13 cuts to this new showcase with the majority of the pieces melodic & featuring the raw vocals of Falzarano embodying it all with authenticity & his ever-distinctive sound. “There’s a Rainbow” is the first standout. More rock-oriented is the superb “Mighty Mississippi” with its Hot Tuna/Little Feat drive. It has all the meat & potatoes of The Band as well. Down the line you’ll rub butts with “Take Back What’s Mine” a nice slow drag of a rocker, something Rick Danko would sing. Excellent guitar effects, soaring guitar solo, & pristine production. The final cut of the showcase is an acoustic version, & it loses none of its charm. With a slight reggae push “Get Up Get In The Dance,” despite its dance-orientation title is played with Grateful Dead characterization with the guitars a tokensim of Little Feat, it all works well, warm & jubilant. The only thing missing is Jerry Garcia’s voice but on this, Michael asserts himself quite well.
There are some songs that are also mindful of the late Mark Germino (“Fields of Man’s New Order”) who would have been an ideal musician for Michael to partner with. Blusier territory is entered on Michael’s “Without a Net (Parts 1 & 2).” With its slinky “I Ain’t Got The Fever No More” type of predatory arrangement of Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes. Cool & precise, snaky & accentuated. This vocal tradition returns with the energetic “One Brick At A Time.”
The showcase itself is highly recommended – nothing is overplayed, embellished or mediocre. Nothing. The CD deserved a lyric insert. The songs are good enough to have that bonus.

Look at the album cover. It hearkens to Eric Clapton and B.B. King and Riding With The King. Here we have Rawls who looks to be driving the car of his signature song “Red Cadillac,” with Keller giving us a look of confidence and satisfaction in the passenger seat.
Keller and Johnny have performed with each other for decades now and it shows; they are completely in sync with this superb tribute album. It is a masterful set of tunes with soul icon Johnny Rawls paying tribute to the previous iconic soul men of yore. And then we have Dave Keller who joins his mentor again for a delightful album of soul classics that they both put their indelible stamps on.
Dave’s band of keyboardist Ira Friedman, bassist Alex Budney, and drummer Jay Gleason are stellar and solid as always. The three-piece horn section of Paul Johnson (tenor and baritone saxophones), Ben DeLong (trumpet), and Travis Geiman (trombone) are fantastic here. Rawls and Keller trade off lead vocals and play rhythm guitar. The guitar solos are all Keller’s.
“I’m Qualified” is the Clarence Carter hit from 1968 and Johnny makes it his own with a rousing, pretty performance. He smooths the cut out in Johnny Rawls fashion, and Keller adds some responses to Johnny’s calls, making it a cool rendition. Next is “I’ve Never Found A Girl (To Love Me Like You Do)” which is a deep soul cut originally released by Eddie Floyd. Keller testifies with passion as the horns back him sweetly and then Rawls enters the fray with equal emotion. A slick, restrained guitar solo adds nicely to the mix.
“Walk A Mile In My Shoes” is the great Joe South tune calling for acceptance and equality. Elvis gave us a famed rendition, too. Here both Dave Keller and Rawls give us their take on it and emote with deep feeling; well done! “Neighbor, Neighbor” follows, a rocking Jimmy Hughes cut where Rawls and Keller trade off the lead. A stinging guitar lead and solo replaces the old school guitar, and the hollow organ from the original get replaced by a more modern sounding horns and organ that help to make the cut special.
Keller fronts “I Remember” first and Rawls joins in on this 1971 Tommy Tate soul classic. The piano and horns add a nice dimension, another winner! Benny Latimore’s “Bad Risk” follows. Dave gives us a spoken intro and then Rawls takes over; this is soul like it’s supposed to be done. Horns and organ flow nicely and then we get a nice little guitar solo tnear the end that adds to the mood.
Joe Tex’ “Hold What You’ve Got” is from 1964 and was first done in Muscle Shoals with their backing musicians and signature sound. This version is less raw but equally passionate with Keller and Rawls sharing the mic. Dave and Johnny give it their all and it’s a super rendition. “Make Love To Me Baby” is classic 1970 Little Johnny Taylor and Rawls and Keller hit it out of the park. Slick vocals and horns, they make it all theirs.
Next is “The Kind of Love I Want” and Johnny tells us in no uncertain terms what he desires, and then it’s Dave’s turn to also tell us. This great Z.Z. Hill song is another classic and this duo give it up to us with guts and gritty feeling; I loved it! Albert King’s sultry “Drowning On Dry Land” moves from the realm of slow and somber blues into the world of deep soul and it’s oh-so cool. Keller kills it vocally as does Rawls and by the time it’s done you’ll be emotionally spent. They conclude with “You Didn’t Know It But You Had Me,” a bouncy cut by George Jackson and Dan Greer. Rawls and Keller turn the tempo down by a small notch but it remains a cool and vibrant song. The Farfisa combo organ is gone but there is a nice funkiness to this version with Friedman’s organ and piano and a short but cool bass set of riffs along with nice guitar and horn accompaniment.
I first played this album driving into the Chicago Blues Festival this year. I was floored and I keep listening to it over and over again. I’ve seen Johnny and Dave together many times and I continue to marvel at the synergy these two have with each other. It is remarkable. If you like soul music, then this is for you. It’s an amazing album filled with classic songs that Rawls and Keller make their own. Go get it- you won’t regret it!
