In the midst of recording his 12th album, wavering in his resolve to finish what he’d started, Seth Walker came to a realization. “This work does not define me. This is not who I am forever. This is just a moment.” No album is trapped in amber, no song is set in stone. Distance colors compositions over the years and each album is left as a reflection of its own period in time. This idea played a big part in shaping Why The Worry. Now, the other half of knowing is letting go; letting go of the worry about perception, the worry of over-preparation, and the worry that seeps in constantly from the news and noise of everyday life. Taking a page from Willie Nelson, Walker embraced the songwriter’s sage wisdom, “I’ve never seen worry accomplish anything… so I decided not to do it.” Truth be told, there aren’t many better oracles to hang an ethos on than brother Willie.
The new album finds Walker reunited with old friends and familiar names. Once again Jano Rix steps behind the boards, co-producing the album with Seth and engineer Brook Sutton.
In the producer’s fifth outing he’s become an invaluable sounding board, the kind who knows what’s missing and, just as importantly, what needs to be taken away.  Oliver Wood (The Wood Brothers) lends a pen to the title track, and Seth’s classically trained father Scott adds strings to “I’m Getting Ready,” a song penned by Walker’s contemporary Michael Kiwanuka.
Mostly, though, the record was shepherded into shape by Walker’s trio, rounded out by longtime confidants Rhees Williams (Guitar, Piano) and Mark Raudabaugh (Drums). The three let the studio guide them, entering without agenda, set straight by the title’s mantra to stop worrying where they’d end up.
But worry always tries to creep in. It’s inevitable, isn’t it? The album was just about finished when Hurricane Helene hit Walker’s region in the mountains around Asheville, and as a result, the record almost didn’t see light.  As catastrophe took shape and literal bridges were broken, the album’s importance wavered in Seth’s mind until the central theme came back into view. The worry wouldn’t undo any damage, and there was still service in song. There’s a telling nod in the album closing with Bobby Charles’ seminal ode “I Must Be In a Good Place Now.” Why The Worry is a spiritual reset, watching the sunrise over the mountains. It soaks in like warmth on the skin after a night of shivering in the dark.
Charles isn’t the only notable scribe among the track list, an even mix of Walker’s originals and a carefully curated crop of covers that rifle through the past and present. Setting the course are two gems from JJ Cale, whose sanguine saunter leans well into the album’s themes of amble and ease. Walker opens the album with the smoke ring sway of Bill Withers, turning the lights low for a gently funked rendition of “The Same Love That Made Me Laugh.” The groove grows deeper on Al Green’s “Take Me To The River,” putting a distinctly reclined feel on the soul classic. The breezy feeling extends to the originals as well, injecting a bit of Cale’s country funk into “Up On The Mountain,” soaking spring air and hope into “Supernatural Thing,” and melting nostalgia into meditation on “Midway Girl.”
Why The Worry follows a string of critically acclaimed albums from Walker, garnering praise from NPR to The Washington Post. He’s been found on the road with The Mavericks, The Wood Brothers, Raul Malo, Paul Thorn and Ruthie Foster among others. He recently penned “Moon and Stars” – the title track to The Mavericks new album, sung as a duet with Sierra Ferrell. Walker’s latest album Why The Worry is out on April 4, 2025 on Royal Potato Family.

Great album with searing guitar, powerful vocals, and really strong horn blowing. Jake Jewell and his band does a terrific job in covering many blues classics using a blend of hometown blues and jump boogie. This brilliantly constructed album gives a new interpretation to some of the great blues standards, and demonstrates how great the blues can be, when played from a new angle. A superb album which really gets down to the nitty gritty of what the blues is all about. Check out more albums in this genre and KEEP THE BLUES ALIVE !!
JAKE JEWELL-GUITAR&VOCALS
MO JO BUFORD -HARP [ Was once harmonica player for Muddy Waters]
ROB STUPKA-DRUMS [Has played with Chuck Rainey, Luther Allison, Bo Diddley, John Lee Hooker, & Long John Baldry]
JOHN LINDBERG-BASS [ Has played with Bo Diddley, Earl King, John Lee Hooker, & Otis Clay]
WALLY WALLSTEAD-GUITAR [ An exceptional guitarist, Wally has played with everybody, including Jack McDuff, Eddie Lovejoy, Tom Jones, & Mojo Buford]
STEVEHAGMAN -PIANO [ Has played with the great Isaac Hayes, & Ricki Hendricks]
RANDY GRIST-TRUMPET [Has played with The Temptations, & The Lettermen]
RICK ODELL-SAX [ Has worked with Bonnie Raitt, & toured with The Rolling Stones]
Lonely Nights - Written by Jake. Memphis sound with exceptional trumpet and sax. Truly a lonely feel, especially in Jake's voice - from the heart. A New Way To Sing The Blues- another original from Jake. Memphis style again. Exceptional trumpet and saxophone again, but a very different feel this time - a joyous feel, a joyous blues - a new way indeed! Every Day I have The Blues- written by Memphis Slim, covered by so many.... but this "cover" is distinctive in its treatment, especially the inflection in the vocal, a distinctive guitar solo by Jake and the drums drive harder than any other version I've heard before To Know You Is To Love You- fine guitar by Jake again.... super piano - tasty horns Woke Up This Morning (My Baby Was Gone) - SOLID horns, Memphis sound again, but maybe a touch of Delta in Jake's voice this time. A plaintive "don't you want a man like me" echoed in a fine piano ending. (I Got My) Mojo Working - how about some Chicago now? That's Mojo Buford playing harp on the song that gave him his name. Buford has changed it a little since he played it behind the Muddy one. (Hey Baby) You Don't Have to Go - Chicago again. Jake proves that he has done his homework and Buford proves again he can still blow Chicago harp Hoochie Coochie Man - In case you thought Jake and Mojo could only do it twice Sweet Home Chicago - you've heard this one featuring the harp enough, so this version features sax, piano, and Jake on guitar, Fun! Long Distance Call - Did you think that Jake and Mojo would shrink from doing Muddy's best known tune? Buford has again changed his harp line enough to keep it fresh. Love the piano! Dust My Broom- from Robert Johnson to Elmore James to Jake Buford.... as strong as ever (If You) Talk In Your Sleep - hesitation rhythm, haunting, compelling.... a sparse sound give this drummer a raise! My favorite cut! [ Review © Lester Galt (Upper Mississippi Blues Society) www.geocities.com/bloonmpls/home.html]
California veteran bluesman, Jake Jewell, who now hails from Minneapolis , Mn, combines a unique blend of jump, boogie, and down-home country blues that captures the pure essence of the true originators of the blues. Jewell honed and carved his blues guitar sound and Delta edged vocals by refusing to compromise his music, playing for 10 bucks a night in the handful of Twin Cities blues clubs which existed in the sixties and seventies. Demoralized by the local music scene, Jewell decided to relocate to San Francisco, which seemed to be a better option than playing in clubs where there seemed to be no future. The relocated bluesman earned his way through college by working in the studio, and gigging with various R&B groups like Joe Tex, Sly Stone, the Imperials, B.B.King, James Brown and Muddy Waters. Jewell then decided to move on to L.A where he attended UC-Northridge. There he met and studied under such greats as Joe Pass, Howard Roberts, Kenny Burrell and Phil Upchurch. These great jazz players were a major influence on Jewell, adding to his blues bag. Having served his apprenticeship on stage and in the studio as a sideman, Jake has finally chosen to step into the spotlight, self-producing his own blues CD. He returned to the Minneapolis area, where the blues has enjoyed a great resurgence of popularity in recent years, and assembled some of the best blues musicians for a memorable session. The results speak for themselves. Listen up, folks! From CD notes/

While calling Virginia Beach, Virginia home, his musical ideas and style were shaped and honed from his West Coast upbringing in Southern California. Whether he is slinging his favorite electric guitar fronting his own band or sliding a bottleneck across the fret board of his trusty old metal body National resonator as a solo artist, Cole has developed a definitive, cross-cut style of his own. Born and raised on the west coast, Coles contemporary blues stylings are an amalgamation of his eclectic musical influences from his early years. R&B, Motown, country, rock and swing have become important components in his songs and arrangement style. With four self produced CDs to his credit, Cole continues to draw the listener into his world of thoughts, images and possibilities! Coles lyrical focus becomes the common denominator for all his audiences. There is a authentic connection Cole makes at each show about life experiences.
Todays listeners enjoy Coles show because of his ingenious down home approach of weaving provocative thoughts and possibilities into everyday life. Stripping his songs of shallow commercial tinsel, Cole delivers his music straight up with passion and intense emotion.

To this album then, fourteen tracks of original and covers Produced by Roger Cotton at Roundel studios, Roger among other projects was keyboard player with Peter Green's Splinter Group, and as well as playing is a top class songwriter as well. As well as playing in Paul's band he's usually on tour with Buddy Whittington when he comes over from the USA, so we know the production side is strong.Guitarist Mike Summerland spent fifteen years with Georgie Fame's band, and also himself involved in writing some of the songs here with Paul Cox. The opening 'Weekend Blues Man' is a very popular live song and makes a great opener here as well, as does the next e 'Middle Of Nowhere', two solid rocking blues to kick things off. But whether rocking blues, or deep soul Paul's full voice gets the best out of every one of the songs contained here. The old Otis Redding hit, '634 5789' written by Steve Cropper and Eddie Flyd gets a very nice reworking here, as does the Andy Frazer/Paul Rodgers classic 'Ride On A Pony', Steve Dixon's title track, 'Good To Me' is a cracking song that should recieve several visits in the coming years one of those you know will be covered a few times. Paul band plus choice guests including the wonderful voice of Val Cowell from 'Bad Influence' onThe Old Otis song mentioned'plus a spinkling of funky hons here and there, not to mention Alan Glen's harmonica and Nick Payn surely one of our best sax men both live and in the studio. So all in all a very fine album indeed by one of Britain's best.

 2. Shame - 2:58
 3. Little Brother - 3:41
 4. The Joy the Pain - 4:13
 5. Bad Blood - 3:47

Influenced by the soulful songwriting of his mentor Bill Withers, the Rock & Roll swagger of Led Zeppelin, and the honest raw style of Neil Young, Joel Eckels is an L.A. based Singer-Songwriter & Producer.
Currently based in the storied Laurel Canyon area of Los Angeles, Joel is channeling his life’s journey into preserving the magic, nuance, and importance of the live music experience.
" The Joy, The Pain EP - These 5 songs were picked from sessions we did in November of 2009 after the band was mentored by the legendary soul man, Bill Withers. Bill taught us important lessons about nuance, dynamics in arrangements and helped strengthened our sense of groove. An unforgettable, once in a lifetime experience to say the least. More of the tracks from those sessions will be appearing on the upcoming full-album release. During those sessions, we spent 2 weeks taking over our friend, Ben Skerker’s house in the Wilshire district of Los Angeles. Brandon Duncan brought together a bunch of vintage recording equipment and setup shop; running cables through all parts of the house and engineering the whole 2 week session. The band all set up in Ben’s living room with couches turned over to lower the mic bleed and guitar amps in the coat closet. It was raw, guerilla recording at it's best. An amazing experience for all of us.
Our good friend, the amazing Dan Rothchild, took over production duties after the tracking sessions and helped put everything together and add any extra overdubs. We brought in Adam MacDougall, Arlan Schierbaum and Bill Purdy to lay down keyboards, along with Dawn Thomas and Sky Nicholas on backing vocals.
What we got was the first chapter of the Wreckards story. We hope this is only the beginning of a long journey with much more music ahead. Enjoy...

A good straight boogie blues rockin' album that contains elements of the "bar rock" sound, reminiscent of many late sixties British blues "pub rock" bands, although Jubal Kane's music carries more "weight" in their sound. This album is like a mixture of Savoy Brown, especially their "Jack The Toad" album, and the driving boogie blues rock of Canned Heat. There are also shades of The Fabulous Thunderbirds, and SRV. Good solid playing, very good vocals, and well written songs make this a great album for your collection.
Jubal Kane has come together in a band that is unique while holding true to the blues.
Individually and collectively, they have opened for, or shared the stage with such blues legends as Buddy Guy, Derek Trucks, The Night Hawks, Lonnie Brooks, Room Full of Blues, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Debbie Davies and The Michael Hill Blues Mob.
They are just as comfortable playing small venues or large festivals/

Boston's 7 piece R&B juggernaut THE LOVE DOGS are back with their brand new release, GET OFF MY LAWN! The Dogs have long been renowned for their dynamic horns, pumping piano, killer rhythm section and one of the biggest Blues voices around. They combine elements of Jump Blues, New Orleans R&B and early Rock 'n' Roll into their own powerhouse sound, and all are on full display in this 12 song set.
From the Big Joe Turner homage "Fly Away", the Crescent City flavored "Hard To Be Mad", the big band inspired "Took The Wrong Road" and "Here Come The Blues" the Latin tinged "Who Do You Think You're Foolin'" to the down home rockin' Blues of "Keep On Lyin'" lead vocalist and chief songwriter Eddie Scheer leads the band through some terrific grooves, keeping the energy high and the good humor flowing.
Blues Review says "If there were a Superbowl for crowd pleasing rhythm & blues, a photo of The Love Dogs would be on every Wheaties box in America." Scheer sums it up by saying "If this band doesn't put a smile on your face, check your pulse because you just might be dead."

It wasn't long after Charlie began developing his powerful voice, playing four nights a week on the South Side with his own band, the Hotlinks. 11. All over My Skin - 5:19
12. 1000 Miles Blues - 6:17
13. Onololows Blues - 6:05

Big City Blues (GRV Records) is the third album by Celso Salim, and it is arguably the best yet, certainly to my ears – maybe because it is bluesier then the earlier two. The CD benefits from having 12 original songs and just one cover version (“If The Sea Were Whiskey”), and the original songs are all good.Salim shows his instrumental diversity by playing dobro, electric and acoustic guitars – backed by Jason Sterling on drums, Rodrigo Mantovani on bass and guest artists Ari Borguer (piano), Igor Prado (guitar), Sergio Duarte (harmonica) and others.Salim is very obviously a talented musician, and he has been playing guitar since the age of 6; he studied at the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, and joined a local blues band in the area, before moving back to his native Brazil in 2000.This is his first album since the 2003 release Going Out Tonight, and it has been worth the wait. The album contains lots of different tempos and styles of blues, from driving rocking blues to simple picking, and obviously has many different influences. The opening track “Best Cheater In Town” is a rocking blues, with some superb harmonica work from Sergio Duarte backing Celso’s stylish slide guitar work. “Truthful Liars” keeps to the same tempo and style with its driving, insistent beat, and slips into track three, the title track “Big City Blues,” slowing down the tempo slightly and showcasing some nice piano work by Ari Borguer.
Track four, “Sweet Lovin’ Queen,” is pure Muddy Waters-influenced and is possibly the best track on the album – the slide guitar is pure heaven! I’d buy the CD for this track alone. The cover of Willie Dixon’s “If The Sea Was Whiskey” is another contender for best track on the album, staying true to the original without being a direct copy.
There isn’t a bad track on the album, it’s just that some are better than others. There seems to be some high standard blues coming out of Brazil at the moment, and this is a good listen. --- Terry Clear

10. Cheatin' Fool - 4:30
11. Mississippi Midnight (Bonus Track) - 3:50

Growing up on the Northwest side of Chicago, Dawn started early. She developed a sense of timing shaking her head to the radio. "I remember I was shaking my head to the downbeat, when I got older I realized I was keeping time." She would sing to her mother's records. One really caught her ear. Connie Francis' "Who's Sorry Now". "She really belted it out and I wanted to do that too." By her teens she was introduced to the blues via Janice Joplin, Hendrix and Led Zepplin, listening to underground radio. With fake I.D. in hand she would sing in folk rock bands in local clubs with older musicians. At this time Dawn began writing as well. "I would just pick up a pencil and start writing. It wasn't like oh-let's write a song, it would just flow like that." Later in 1993 that pencil won her a Billboard certificate of achievement for "Stone Cold Fool", the first of the last three songs recorded earlier on this disc featuring Emery Williams on guitar and vocals.
Moving to Des Plaines, IL to raise a family of her own, she took most of the 80's off. When the kids got a little older she was ready to roll. "It's comparable to the need to eat." She joined an all female choral group called Images of Sound at the YMCA. Performing jazz, show tunes, folk and pop, Dawn honed her vocal skills and was featured as a pop soloist. "It was the best training ground for me." She also joined Midwest Women in Music, as well as the songwriters committee both a Chicago branch of NARAS, where she started meeting various Chicago music insiders. It wasn't until she sat in at a jam night at River West in Chicago, however, that her career would kick into high gear. Playing guitar in Howard Scott's band one night was Emery Williams. Dawn & Emery soon became collaborators. Emery, a veteran of the south and west side blues scene began taking Dawn to all the down and dirty clubs. Performing together in those rough and tumble clubs as the Slick Willy Crazy Band taught Dawn to be a better performer. "If I wanted to be on Emery's caliber there's no choice. You have to sing your heart out, dance your heart out, really give it everything. Nothing less than 100%.Dawn and Emery married in 1995. He passed away from lung cancer in 1996. "I can still feel his presence when I perform" states Dawn. This CD is lovingly dedicated to his memory.
A Chicago native, Dawn's creative songwriting drew local rock, blues and R&B artists as they have performed and/or recorded some of her original songs. A versatile singer, Dawn also sings backup for recording artists Katherine Davis, Mary Godfrey, Stephanie Fletcher, Sharon Lewis and more. Community oriented, Dawn believes that through music you can give back, which she has by donating her time and talent producing fundraiser for shelters for battered women and children (Family Rescue at Buddy Guy's) fundraisers for musicians who have been ill or passed on as well as obtaining musical instruments for underprivileged children.
