rockin and rasslin’ author: Richard Amery Kenora Daily Miner and News Kevin Wood sure knows how to wrestle with an old slide guitar. But he also knows how to rock like the likes of the Downchild Blues band, Canned Heat and the Fabulous Thunderbirds did back in the day. You don’t know what to expect with his new CD, Stray Dog. He begins with a couple great groovy electric blues numbers, She’s Gone and Good to See You, then slowly abandons the electric for an old fashioned acoustic guitar and slide. Then picks up the pace again midway through the CD, with the killer Live Wire. He splits the difference between Robert Johnson style smooth sell my soul to the Devil delta blues and rock n blues, on Oh Well. While he rassles with the old acoustic, you can almost see the old Hellhound on his tail. But throughout this long strange trip, he never loses the listener once, leaving listeners constantly either on the edge of their seats or dancing on top of them.

"Blues Plate Special" …….is a four-piece blues band (harmonica, guitar, bass, & drums) serving up a variety of "Hot,Tasty,…Cookin' Blues" . . . straight-ahead, honest-from-the-soul, make-ya-wanna-testify BLUES!
Their house-rockin' shows feature original material in a variety of styles. And, of course, no blues show is complete without a few tunes by such blues greats as Stevie Ray Vaughan, B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Little Walter, Buddy Guy, Paul Butterfield, Albert Collins, Jonny Lang, Little Charlie & the Nightcats, …to name just a few.
They put Blues Plate Special together in 1995 and have been doin' their best to keep the blues alive and well in the Southern Tier of New York State ever since!
Harmonica: "Rhythm Ray" Pettis - "Rhythm Ray" has been blowing the "Mississippi Saxophone" longer than he has been suckin' on it!! He has been in a variety of bands over the past 30+ years of performing and has worked with Stratcat Willie playing blues for a decade or so. Together they can also be caught doing their acoustic "back-porch" act, "SHORT ORDER BLUES".
Guitar: "Stratcat Willie" Hayes - "Stratcat Willie" has played lead guitar and sang with several bands since the early 60's. He and Catfish have been together off and on for over forty years. He has been playin' "nothin' but the blues" for the past several years and you might find him "sittin' in" with any number of folks in the Southern Tier, or, when he gets a chance to travel, at clubs in New Orleans, Cincinnatti, Orlando, LasVegas, Key West….
Bass: John "Catfish" Wisor - "Catfish" has been playing bass since he could reach the neck of an upright. In addition to working with Stratcat, he spent some time touring in the 70's and 80's. More recently, he worked the local jazz clubs with "Sticks" before Blues Plate Special was born.
Drums: Dave "Sticks" Fiorini - "Sticks" has been involved in a number of projects over the past several years, playing everything from Reggae to smooth jazz. He and Catfish worked together playing predominantly jazz when they caught the blues!

 9. Frozen Shadows - 3:04
10. Cheaters Never Win - 4:08
11. Let Me - 4:07
12. One Less Dream - 4:37

The Feeling being described by the album title is clearly a blues feeling. Packed with twelve tracks of orginal material, Stanley Milton’s Mean Streak shows us what a good blues song should sound like. Don’t be put off by the home-made halloweenish art work on the cover. This is the real deal. Chicago-style blues with sax and a horn section on some tunes, like”Let’s Prove Them Wrong.” “Little Dove” displays a a slower more heartfelt tempo, yet remains true to the blues. The rollicking roots style of “Blues Infection” would certianly get people off their butts and onto the dancefloor. The recording showcases excellent musicianship from a wide variety of local players (including: Chris Harris, Mike Mobley, Jim Ayers, Rod Buckner, Kris Farris and a raft of others) with decent bluesy lead vocals from Stanley Milton himself. “North Shore Angel” written about his wife, stands out as the highlight of the album. Blues with elements of roots rock and roll, soul funk, and latin rock/

Tenry Johns “The King Kong Rocker” - Need Your Love

Bitrate:320K/s
Year:2004
Time:43:52
Size:101,2 MB
Label:Self-Released
Styles:Funk/Funky Blues/Blues
Art:Front

Tracks Listing:
 1. Rockin With the Rocker - 4:20
 2. I Swear I'll Never Leave You - 4:34
 3. Jealous Friends - 4:37
 4. It's All Over Baby - 4:50
 5. Why Are You Doing Me Like That - 4:06
 6. I Need Your Love - 4:53
 7. Don't Worry [if They Don't Understand] - 3:34
 8. Somethhing You'll Never Forget - 3:58
 9. Playing Blues Every Day and Night - 4:20
10. I'm Only Being Me - 4:35

Five years after his solo debut, "In Here Tonight," Tenry Johns has released his follow up album. The personnel have changed a little, although the balance is still the same (lead and rhythm guitars, bass, drums and horns), and the album is dedicated to the late Bob Crane who played lead guitar on "In Here Tonight." The album opens in fine style with "Rockin' With The Rocker," a terrific funky number. It is so nice to hear a real horn section on tunes like this, where Johns' vocals sound at times a little like Nathaniel Mayer. The band keep the dance mood going with another cracking tune, "I Swear I'll Never Leave You," before shifting into a more bluesy vein for a couple of numbers.
Even though the album was recorded in two parts, at different studios, using different line-ups, you would be hard pushed to hear the joins. All of the musicians are in top form throughout, and Johns has a very flexible delivery that allows him to almost spit and snarl on tunes like "Why Are You Doing Me Like That," and then mellow out for the positively laid back "I Need Your Love." The production is very clean throughout, and you can hear all the individual contributions to the band's overall sound without too much extra effort. Co-producer (along with Johns) Larry Kucera obviously deserves some credit here, and deserves plaudits for his guitar playing too, which is particularly noteworthy on "Playing Blues Every Day and Night" and the ensuing closer, "I'm Only Being Me," which rounds things off in style.
"Need Your Love" shows that Tenry Johns has moved upwards and onwards in the fiver years since he recorded his debut album. This time around everything seems that bit tighter, and Johns comes across as a man with a clear vision of where he is going.

Still At Large - Still at Large

Tracks Listing:
 1. Aardvark Blues Cafe - 3:36
 2. Bits And Pieces - 3:32
 3. I Can't Lose When I Choose The Blues - 3:12
 4. Loved You Like A Fool - 4:30
 5. You Never Can Tell - 4:55
 6. Whoa Is Me - 3:44
 7. Oh Well - 4:05
 8. Question Of The Blues - 4:50
 9. Black Jack Ruby Jones - 3:22
10. Slide On In - 3:58
11. Tired Of This Town - 6:27

It certainly is shocking that this band is "still at large", at least in Toronto, the hub of high-quality Blues music in Ontario. I haven't heard this exciting calibre of talent since I first heard Coldsweat playing on the Danforth in Toronto three years ago! Their mutual affinity for Albert Collins and Stevie Ray Vaughan is particularly acute on the scorching blues-rocker "Oh, Well" as well as "Slide On In" (a hard-edge funk-blues fusion).
Although their core formation is a quartet (Michael George Bruce on guitars, vocals, Tom MacGuigan on bass, James Bruce on guitar, vocals and Jack Lehoux on drums, vocals), they added extra layering from Debbie Power on piano and Wurlitzer and Larry Thompson on Hammond organ on this debut recording, just as the Coldsweat quartet enlisted the aid of Michael Fonfara to fill out their otherwise rock-steady sound.
The opening track, "Aardvark Blues Cafe", a musical ode to their "home base" in Windsor, features co-producer Mark Plancke on "vocal shouts". It impressed me as a song that Chuck Berry might have played, had he been disposed to incorporate more of a Blues edge into his trademark rock'n'roll sound. The dramatic rockin' strut introducing "Bits and Pieces" simultaneously brought to mind Deep Purple's "Maybe I'm a Leo" as well as the Eagles' "Victim of Love", providing solid testimony to their rockin' roots.
The laid-back psychedelia of legendary organ trios reigns on "I Can't Lose When I Choose the Blues" followed by the mildly insipid but otherwise catchy "Loved You Like a Fool" and "You Never Can Tell".
The turning point of the CD is "Whoa Is Me", a staggering, swaggering slice of soulful blues guitar. Being a big fan of Z.Z. Top and Eric Clapton, I definitely favoured the second half of this CD, which contains two of the website song samples ("Question of the Blues" and "Blackjack Ruby Jones") that actually "sold" me on them originally. That being said, I was certainly not disappointed with anything on the entire CD. I am very proud to have it included among the favourites of my CD collection!
There is a definite learning curve that is overcome after many years of teaming up in different bands, and these four guys have found the ideal combination that defines the perfection of sound obtained from a committed group effort. While Still at Large features one smashing track after the other, the closing manic-paced jam, "Tired of This Town" (ending with an unusual knock-out drum solo), truly demonstrates the kind of instinctive, innate talent that just can't be learned.
Bassist Tom MacGuigan, whose vocals would appeal more to female fans, told me there's a video floating around somewhere of the time when Jeff Healey sat in with the Robin Banks Bank when Tom was playing bass with them. From Still at Large's collective history with bands like Robert Noll, Robert Penn, Crossfire, Lynne and the Rebels, it's easy to see these guys have a well-rounded ability to play just about anything that's requested of them, and they usually do. Still, with criminally tasty originals like these, it's time for these guys to get "captured" by the public!

Gail and Karl Hourigan love writing songs, and over the years they've penned songs that travel across different genres, but always with an ear tuned to melodies. Stepping out as the duo “Gail and Karl” gives them a chance to highlight their original songs, and dive into old and new songs by other folk and rock artists. Their songs have been heard on CBC, college and community radio stations across Canada, and internet radio channels like Accuradio out of Chicago. Performance highlights include the 2008 and 2013 CelticFest Vancouver with The Malarkeys. They were thrilled to be invited to perform at a Bluebird North songwriters showcase in Vancouver, sharing the stage with Canadian legend Randy Bachman. The evening also featured performances by Amy Sky, Ralph Murphy, Johnny Douglas, Jeff Smallwood, Ron Irving, Ron Hynes, and Shari Ulrich. "Up close, sharing a songwriters showcase, I found the songs stood out even more....the song structure and performance was right on the money." ...Randy Bachman "... have accomplished a totally unique sound highlighted with sometimes offbeat and very clever lyrics blended in an acoustic/modern music milieu."...Greg Torrington The release of their first independent CD, "Real, Real Gone" in 1996 resulted in regular airplay on CBC and college radio. The song "To The Moon" won First place in the Write On Song Contest "Roots/Folk/Worldbeat" category. That album was followed by another independent release,"Happy Enough", in 2001. Their Celtic album, "Bloody Brilliant" as The Malarkeys, followed in 2010. Since then, they've been releasing digital singles on streaming services (like Deezer) under The Malarkeys or more broadly as simply Gail and Karl. Karl began writing songs before he could even play an instrument. His earliest influences were his parents' record collection, which included Johnny Cash, The Clancy Brothers, and the Chad Mitchell Trio. Then, of course, there were the Beatles, and his affinity with Brit pop has never waned. The combination of his natural inventiveness, a formal music education (classical and jazz), and many nights performing original songs to diverse audiences, has given him a keen understanding of what it takes to connect with an audience. Gail started writing songs on piano, and later picked up the guitar. Lately, she has turned to performing on the bass guitar. Gail has years of experience performing her original music in bands in Victoria, Vancouver, and Kelowna (Hoi Polloi, The Slip, Helen Gone and then The Malarkeys). As a creative artist, she is always interested in exploring new ideas and seeing where they lead.

13. So Long - 6:06

Album for the band that mixes blues and southern rock. Long, medium-long songs that recall the epic rides of the Marshall Tucker Band or Lynyrd Skynryd.
"It's as if Foghat, Molly Hatchet, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Poison, Mississippi John Hurt, R.L. Burnside, Skynyrd, Mudcrutch, Pete Anderson, Townes Van Zant, and Allen Toussaint gave birth to a band and the child was blessed by a honky tonk angel from the South MS/Louisiana State Line. "
The 484 South Band began in 2005 when Keith Schultz and Twain Pigott began playing cover songs in local venues around the Baton Rouge area. Two years later, in the Fall of 2007, the full band was created when the lineup became set with Keith Schultz (guitar), Twain Pigott (guitar), David Johnson (drums/percussion), Jim Oakes (vocals), Brady Bagwell (guitar/vocals) and Don Hull (bass). Schultz, Pigott and Oakes began writing the original songs that would launch the band into the world of indie Southern Rock. The band’s first CD, Mississippi Nights, was recorded in the summer of 2009 at Route One Recording and was co-produced by indie pioneer Chris Hudson (co-owner of Black Dog Records with ties to Cary Hudson, Blue Mountain, John Stirratt of Wilco, etc.). The album received outstanding reviews and continues to be a staple for any Southern Rock listener. 484’s energetic stage performances and broad fan appeal led to performances before crowds of thousands (Atwood Music Festival, New Orleans Rock & Roll Marathon) and return engagements to many of the South’s famous, and not so famous, venues. 2010 was a time of change for the band with founding member Twain Pigott and vocalist Brady Bagwell leaving to spend more time with their families and pursue other interests. In December of 2010 the unexpected passing of bassist extraordinaire Don Hull was a devastating loss for the band. In January of 2011, the new lineup was announced. Keith Schultz (lead/rhythm guitar), David Johnson (percussion/drums), Jim Oakes (vocals), Phil Cangelosi (vocals/acoustic guitar), Sidney Babin (bass), and Andrew Price (lead/rhythm guitar).

If the name King IVORY is unfamiliar to you, tell yourself that it’s not unusual: this minor musician has recorded only four albums. However, the multi-instrumentalist still has a much more substantial career. Ivory Lee Semien was born in 1931 in Washington, a remote village about forty miles north of Lafayette. Ivory, who comes from a Creole family of French descent, began learning the saxophone and guitar at a very early age. At the age of fifteen, he decided to take up the drums, an instrument that allowed him to perform on stage in several small bands around Melville, a city northeast of Opelousas. While several members of his family played fiddle and accordion in small local zydeco and cajun bands, Ivory’s main interest was the blues. Listen!

11. Skating On Thin Ice - 3:02
12. Why Did You Treat Me That Way - 3:40
13. The Blues Just Stay the Same - 2:57

Larry's blues are as real as you can get. He was born in Coldwater, Mississippi in 1951, lived briefly in Memphis before coming to Chicago in 1956, where he grew up on the West Side and listened to Big Bill Hill's pioneering blues radio show. He started playing bass, then guitar with a group of high school buddies that included Tony Llorens, later the producer of several Albert King album; in fact, everybody in the group wound up working with Albert at one time or another.
Larry is the compete package-a great guitarist, a soulful blues singer and a creative songwriter. Larry's resumé reads like a who's who of the blues. He has played in support of Albert King, Albert Collins, John Lee Hooker, Taj Mahal, Johnny Winter, Koko Taylor, Little Milton , Son Seals Otis Rush, Jimmy Johnson, Lonnie Brooks, Jimmy Witherspoon, Sugar Blue, Kim Wilson and Champion Jack Dupree just to name a few.
Larry had also played on over two dozen albums including the great Albert King album San Francesco '83 and Lou Rawls' experimental Shades of Blue. He's on A.C. Reed's iconoclastic Fed Up With This Music. He's on four Collins albums, two of them recorded live in Switzerland and Japan. He's on three albums with Johnny Littlejohn and two with Jimmy Johnson, He's featured on Past, Present & Future (Earwig Records) by his brother Aron Burton, the well known blues singer and bass player. He was also co-leader of the Burton Brothers Blues Band when they cut their album released in Europe on the B&B Label. Larry is also spotlighted on the Icehouse Records release, Slide Guitar Blues, along with Johnny Winter, Sonny Landreth and Elmore James. He has played on five albums that were nominated for Grammy Awards. Is that qualified or what? Naturally, all the other blues artist would have been happy if Larry had continued to back them up with his outstanding rhythm work-he plays full, precise chords that are fingered so cleanly and played so tenderly, you can hear every note-and his fully developed, fiery solos. But his ability to front a band blossomed on one of his European tours and led to the release of his own first album Hustler's Paradise on the Brambus Label. It is chock full of scorching guitar and features all original songs by Larry Burton. They explore the nuances of the man/woman relationship that is the source of so much of the world's blues-and the medicine for it too. But they weren't playing the blues at those sock hops and "Las Vegas Nights," they were playing the latest hits by James Brown, Wilson Pickett or Sam and Dave-not to mention the Rascals, The Beatles and especially Jimi Hendrix, who remains one of Larry's favorites. It was in 1967 that his brother Willie, who played saxophone, introduced Larry to the local club scene, and it's been a steady diet of blues ever since.

Jennifer Lyn & The Groove Revival - Retrograde

 3. Sucker for the Pain - 3:06
 4. Refuge - 3:27
 5. Do Bad Things to You - 4:01

 7. Baggage - 4:17
 8. '59 Cadillac - 3:17
 9. Breaking Chains - 2:49
10. Do It All Again - 4:29

This is Jennifer Lyn & The Groove Revival’s second full album following an EP Nothing Holding me Down in 2021, followed by a second EP, Gypsy Soul, and a debut album, Astro Gypsy in 2022, which reached #4 on the Billboard Blues Chart. The group has garnered seven Independent Music Award nominations and a nomination for an International Songwriting Award.
Retrograde is defined as looking backwards. Here the title signifies that the band is looking to the sounds of the past and applying them to sounds of the future. Jennifer’s guitar and vocals are supported by guitarist Richard Torrance, drummer Jim Anderson, bassist Nolyn Falcon and Barb Jiskra on piano and keyboards. The ten original songs on the album were written by Jennfer Lyn and Richard Torrance.
They open the album with a proclamation that “We carry with us dreams that never die. We’ll ignite a little spark in the dark. “Light The Fire” “in your heart”. She then says she is “Searching for Solid Ground”, as “I’m lost in the in the whispers of my own mind. I’m tired of walking around half-blind. I’m caught in a whirlwind of fear and doubt. I can’t shake the feeling times running out” as a guitar interlude fires up with a soft organ backing. With Barb’s honky-tonk piano and Richard’s slide guitar lead, Jennifer determines, “It ain’t the world’s gone wrong, You’re Just a “Sucker for the Pain”.
A crying guitar drives a soulful ballad with Jennifer making the plaintive plea “Will you be the “Refuge” for my soul” “if the walls start falling down and there’s no one around and I’m standing at your door”. Jim’s drums drive her wanton desires as she declares “There are things that you do that make me want to / I want to “Do Bad Things to You”. “Soul Saver” is a soulful blues song featuring Barb’s organ and Richard’s easy guitar as she tells him “I was lost in the darkness. Searching through my sadness and misery. Then you took my hand, smiled and said come along with me”.
But she then dismisses him and advises “Your “Baggage” won’t fit in my suitcase”. as she expounds “I got your message last night. I didn’t call you back. I didn’t want to fight. It’s the same old story with the same old news. Whining and moaning just singing the blues”. She concludes that story by declaring her desired independence with “I don’t care if he’s coming back, I got his “’59 Cadillac”. “Breaking Chains” features a guitar interplay between Richard and Jennifer and a further declaration of her independence as she tells him “I’m done with gritting my teeth instead of speaking my mind. You’re just a little sucker puncher. Yeah, you reap what you sow. And everybody knows the times are changing”.
A smooth love song ends the album with Richard’s tremolo guitar flowing along as she says she would “Do It All Again” even though she cites “I’m just the dreamer who got nothing in return. Standing in the ashes where our love burned.”
Blues history is refined for a modern sound with Jennifer’s solid, soulful vocals and the backing of a talented band.

This 8-tune set possesses the Right Amount of Funky This is Tim’s 6th LP since 2011 & he mixes it up jubilantly with blues, soul, roots rock & reggae. Each song has its message or story rather than just tunes to “create a groove.” The songs do have their own way of maintaining liveliness & intensity. The Ohio-born & Nashville-based Gartland has been listening to the blues since he was 13 & he’s quite proficient.
This 8-tune set possesses the Right Amount of Funky produced by Andy Peake & Tim & recorded in Nashville, TN. What’s interesting for the uninitiated is how Tim utilizes his deeply dipped, experienced, bruised blues vocal. It reeks of sincerity through each number. He sounds like an old blues master. Has a B.B. King influenced guitarist & slinky sexy female vocalists supporting “Waste A Worry,” a well-cooked blues.produced by Andy Peake & Tim & recorded in Nashville, TN. What’s interesting for the uninitiated is how Tim utilizes his deeply dipped, experienced, bruised blues vocal. It reeks of sincerity through each number. He sounds like an old blues master. Has a B.B. King influenced guitarist & slinky sexy female vocalists supporting “Waste A Worry,” a well-cooked blues. So, these blues aren’t so much The Paul Butterfield Blues Band or Canned Heat. It’s far closer in spirit on “Right Amount of Funky,” to the deep growl perfection of the late John Lee Hooker with a touch of John Baldry. Gartland’s harmonica is warmer than Butterfield & the guitars are surprisingly melodic for a blues song. It all works well & never falls victim to pop sensibility. The entire band chugs along nicely through each song & never sounds like a jam session. They play with enough finesse not to slide into overachiever land. There’s no Stevie Ray Vaughan, Johnny Winter, or Mike Bloomfield flashiness. The concentrated effort is more in the spirit of traditional blues. The interplay between musicians & the imaginative playing is captivating. There’s some bluesy insouciance — there are no political overtones, big messages, or lessons. It’s life as it is. “Walk Away” is sung with the vocal-slurry not unlike a Mick Jagger & the female vocalizing as rich as the Raelettes with Ray Charles. This is a good, cool tune. Sung & played with depth & would put a respective smile on the faces of veteran bluesman like Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williamson I or II, Furry Lewis, Hooker or T. Bone Walker. Yeah, these guys would like it.

Lightning Red began his R&B musical training early…at age three. Every Saturday night in 1952, while his parents danced, he’d sit directly in front of the saxophone sections of Count Basie, Jimmy Dorsey, Duke Ellington and many of the big bands touring the military base circuit. Marveling at him, iconic musicians would bring Red on stage between shows to noodle on their drums or bang on the piano.
Then at age five he studied the piano, had an electric guitar by thirteen, and his band was winning talent contests within a few years time.
Toward the end of his teens, Red became a protégé of Luther Allison in Chicago, where he soaked up the sounds of Buddy Guy, Otis Rush, Mike Bloomfield, B.B. King, Johnny Winter and the local blues legends. Touring throughout North America followed, and in 1977 Austin, Texas became his home and touring base. While performing at the Armadillo World Headquarters during the latter 70s, Omar and the Howlers, W.C. Clark and "little" Charlie Sexton were brought onstage and introduced their music to the community. Red also in the front row hearing the music of newcomers The Fabulous T-Birds (Jimmie Vaughan, Kim Wilson) at Antone's Club and met a struggling guitarslinger named "Little" Stevie Ray Vaughan. His performances include the Whangarei Blues Festival in New Zealand, the Perth Blues Club in Australia, two years at the Great British R&B Festival, The Monterey Bay Blues Festival, the Bayfront Blues Festival, many House of Blues dates in Cambridge, repeat performances at Chicago B.L.U.E.S. in New York, the Rapperswil Blues’n’Jazz Festival near Zurich, and Blues Alive! Cuijk in Holland. He has toured the US & UK repeatedly, as well as Scandinavia, Ireland, Australia, Canada, France, Holland, Switzerland, Germany, Croatia and Denmark.

Contemporary Blues with female power vocals and guitar oriented originals.

Midnight Rhythm Combo is a disgustingly talented, tight and professional blues combo with jazz overtones and organ. Their female vocalist hovers between silk and husk. They’re a band who could play a Las Vegas casino, demand a rider of a five-star hotel + linened dinner and a guarantee of $1000 and not be laughed at. They could play a double two-hour set with a 15-minute intermission. They could make clubs sign contracts and fax them back. And, well, that’s all I really have to say about that.

These are two reviews :-)

I can say that I liked the album! It's a pity that there is only one, but I would have been happy to see them Live!

For a sebring musician it took inspiration, writing, recording and mixing to serve up his recipe for the blues. A self-produced compact disc titled 'free to fly away' showcases the talents of Tim Barfield, who has been playing lead guitar and singing for 33 years. His wife debra, suggested that he record and produce the project himself because he was already gaining experience with the recording process by making back up tracks for his solo act. Barfield explained how he began playing guitar: my brother johnny, started taking lessons and getting good at it and since i was the younger kid i was always competitive with him. His early influnces included: jimmy hendrix, the allman bros. And b.b.king. Barifeld also learned a lot about playing guitar when he lived in the country music capital, Nashville. Armed with a background in rock, southern rock, blues and country, barfield has developed his own guitar style, which is powerful yet melodic. At the microphone his voice reveals a straight forward comfortable baritone, which suits a variety of musical styles. The words and music come from setting down with his guitar with pencil and paper and 'just seeing what comes,' barfield said. Sometimes i get something good, sometimes i never finish, it's just off and on.' the 48 year old paints houses during the day and on weekends plays lead guitar and sings with the backstage pass band. ' it was a real challange he said about making an album on compact disc . 'it's just a whole different world.'
I am glad to introduce you to something new. I also knew nothing about this musician.

Robbie Smith is a true performer in every sense of the word, having toured all over the world with Candye Kane and the Swinging Armadillos. He has played with Blues Bands, Swing Bands, Big Bands, Jazz Ensembles, and Top 40s Groups. His trumpet playing has an exquisite quality and unique style, which will leave you wanting more! Taking inspiration from the most prominent of trumpet influences, such as Chet Baker, Clifford Brown, and Maynard Ferguson, blended with the stylistic influences of Louis Prima, Louis Jordan and Wynonie Harris. A Southern California native, Robbie currently makes his home in Long Beach and gigs steadily in the San Diego area. You can find Robbie playing with such bands as Blue Largo, Big Band Express, The Fabulous Ultratones, Jonny Viau and the Blues Allstars, The Modern Jazz Majestics, 2000 Lbs of Blues and more. Robbie considers himself a trumpet player who sings, not a singer who plays trumpet. His sound is pure, simple and perfectly executed! By Teri Conrad - Entertainment Reviewer.

"Red Hot Blues Sisters is an American blues outfit from Seattle, centred on Suze Sims and Teri Anne Wilson.
I was privileged to see this band at a local annual celebration in Mountlake Terrace Washington, during the Summer of 2011. I was amazed by the energy the band generated and can see why Suze received a vocalist award. She was still breathing hard and her skin was moist from working out on a warm Summer night, when I got her and Teri Anne to autograph this CD. This is a really, really good CD. I loved watching and listening to them incorporate a trumpet and trombone into the Soul full Blues they were pumping out. Actually, as a RN I'm concerned about Suze's voice pushing the envelope while belting out the Blues. The general caution would be "Don't try this yourself, she's a trained professional". The band is great, the gals are great...wish they had more CD's available"~https://www.amazon.com/Red-Blue-Hot-Blues-Sisters/dp/B001GQXV3A .
