My Dony is the second project Grant and Dirk Powell have worked together on - their first, Sun Might Shine on Me, came out in 2015 and was met with wide critical acclaim. It was mostly an acoustic album, and spanned a wide range of traditional American roots music.
My Dony started out as an eclectic album, but it became clear early on that it needed to be an electric blues record in an old-school style. Grant's harmonica and vocals and Dirk's electric guitar come from the older roots of the blues tree, as do the drumming of Jamie Dick and the bass playing of Jason Sypher - the world class rhythm section that propels Rhiannon Giddens fine band. During the second round of recording, they brought in Corey Ledet, a world-class accordion player from Southwest Louisiana; a musician steeped in the area's zydeco and blues traditions. Corey is stylistically often compared to the late great Clifton Chenier.

Meegwetch also to manager Alex Daniels, Myra, Mary, Ernie Guilbault & family for their wonderful support in the early days. Also to the late Dorothy Betz & her staff at the Indian & Metis Friendship Centre during 1968/69. They helped us survive some of the most lean times.
This album of music is also dedicated to the late, great, unforgettable Jim Flett who arrived in Winnipeg about the same time we did. He also mentored & pioneered guitar playing in Indian country for many decades. He was the ‘go to’ guitarman for Sunshine Records Studios in their hey day. He played on hundreds of recordings all through the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s well into the 21st century before Indian country lost him to illness. We the FEATHERMEN, benefited from him always being in tip top playing form; which meant, we had to be in good form as well.
Last, but not least, meegwetch to the many friends, families & fans that still remember where it all began; at a little dance hall at the Indian & Metis Friendship Centre located at 73 Princess Street. A safe place that also welcomed the huge Indian migration to the city of Winnipeg, MB. in the late 1960’s.

Blues Boy Bo, (a male "Blues" writer and artist, also known as Vann Boardingham) was born October 15, 1957, in Sherman Texas, to Mary Boardingham and Rev. Roderick Brown, Blues Boy Bo grew up in Wichita Falls, Texas, where he attended and graduated from S.H. Rider High School, at a very young age Blues Boy started singing in his father church as a soloist, later on in Blues Boy young adult life he join the U.S. Navy, and upon Blues Boy departure from the U.S. Navy, he became a DJ, in Norfolk Virgin, at the age of 23, at the Batman’s Den, Blues Boy became M.C. Master of ceremonies, where he M.C. for such great artist as Millie Jackson, Joe Simon, the Dill, and Atlantis Star. Jimi Hendrix had cemented his rank among rock's greatest guitarists long before his untimely death on September 18, 1970. This solo album from the Saxon founder is the only latest such testimonial, having originally been conceived to showcase material that didn't fit his parent band. Of course, what began as a side project soon mushroomed into a more ambitious affair. The thunderous opening track gets matters off to a flying start; it's a rousing tribute to how Hendrix's vision influenced Oliver's formative years, bolstered by an authoritative armada of guitar breaks. Oliver's playing reaches beautiful peaks on the blazing instrumental "Golden Shred Jam," "Goodbye to Yesterday," and "Never Surrender." The softer material is equally well considered. "End of an Era," which addresses the changing face of rock & roll, should inspire listeners to whip out their lighters, while "Wamita" and "Ode to a Wild Blue Angel" are expressive mood pieces. Vocally, Oliver leaves the singing to others, and lets his guitar do the talking; Saxon's Steve Dawson and Pete Gill are among numerous friends lending their support. Oliver also deserves credit for tackling two lesser-covered Hendrix touchstones, "Can You See Me?" and "Love or Confusion," both of which he delivers with guts, and grace. One other highlight arrives in the addition of unfinished lyrics from Hendrix's own "Cherokee Mist" to "Sippin' Wine," an elegaic Oliver riff. This is a thoughtful effort by a guitarist who's well aware of his capabilities, so give it a listen.

Blue Blot were a Belgian blues rock band.
The band were formed by frontman Luke Walter Jr. and influenced by blues-rock and soul music, with an emphasis on hits. They signed to Ace, a small Belgium label and released their debut album, Shopping For Love in 1987. The group were signed to BMG / Ariola and achieved commercial success in Germany and Scandinavia with the albums Bridge To Your Heart and Where Do We Go and a cover of Toto's "Hold the Line". In 1993, Walter Jr discovered he was suffering from leukemia and left the band to be replaced by Steve Clisby. He later had a solo career but died in 1996.

Produced by Joe himself, this cd captures the vibrance of live Joe, something subtly missing from earlier releases. This project was mixed and mastered at Two Coves Studio in Austin, Texas. Mixed by the king of live sound, Steven Allen and Mastered by several time grammy winner Dave McNair (SRV, Buddy Guy, Los Super 7...).
"Joe appears to have the ability to breathe new life into the Blues idiom, no mean feat. The songs are very good, moving away from hackneyed, clicked styles without really straying from the heart of the Blues. Coupled to this, his voice conveys the Blues feeling without sounding affected in any way. I find that many Blues artists are tremendous instrumentalists, but very poor singers and songwriters, deffinately not the case with this guy.

This album is a collection of classic blues, blues-rock, and early rock 'n roll songs. They are recorded with a lot of energy and are as fun to listen to as they were to record.
Voodoo DeVille is a band based in Chester County, PA, just outside of Philadelphia. The band was formed in 1998 by a like-minded group who enjoyed blues and related musical styles, but enjoyed playing them even more. While Chicago blues was our starting point, our repertoire has expanded to include jump, boogie, swing, early rock ‘n roll, and rockabilly. We count many of the greats as our idols and influences but we don’t feel bound to stick strictly to one style or one way of playing. If it’s fun to play, then it’s in our set list. The songs on Live Wire were recorded live by the Voodoo DeVille band at Chaplin’s in Spring City, PA and at The Roadhouse in Glenmoore, PA. They are representative of the band’s set when performing live.

Ronnie Wood will honor one of his musical heroes with Mad Lad: A Live Tribute to Chuck Berry. The album, released on November 15, 2019 is the first installment of a series of three albums Wood plans to record that pays tribute to those who influenced him. Recorded in 2018 at the Tivoli Theatre in Wimborne, England, Mad Lad finds Wood and His Wild Five interpreting nine Berry classics, including "Johnny B. Goode," "Back in the U.S.A."and "Little Queenie," with Irish singer Imelda May guesting on three other tracks. The album also features the Wood-penned "Tribute to Chuck Berry" and "Worried Life Blues," a Maceo Merriweather song that Berry released as the B-side to "Bye Bye Johnny."

Bobby Messano spent several years as a sideman before making his debut as a leader in 1998 with Dominion Roads. recorded with his supporting band NBO (New Blues Orchestra), the record is an engaging set of contemporary blues-rock. Most impressively, Messano has written or co-written 11 of the 12 songs on the record, and even if they don't jump out and grab you by the collar, they're sturdy and entertaining. Occasionally, the production is too slick, but it matches Messano's style -- he's classy, sophisticated and maybe a bit too well-scrubbed, but that just means he wants you to feel comfortable and welcome. And Dominion Roads certainly is an inviting, welcome debut.

The band were formed by frontman Luke Walter Jr. and influenced by blues-rock and soul music, with an emphasis on hits. They signed to Ace, a small Belgium label and released their debut album, Shopping For Love in 1987. The group were signed to BMG / Ariola and achieved commercial success in Germany and Scandinavia with the albums Bridge To Your Heart and Where Do We Go and a cover of Toto's "Hold the Line". In 1993, Walter Jr discovered he was suffering from leukemia and left the band to be replaced by Steve Clisby. He later had a solo career but died in 1996/

Since its formation in 2014, Fuel Junkie has revealed itself as one of the most promising upcoming artists on the Montreal blues scene. Passionate about the blues at a very young age, Mark LeClerc founded the group with close friends met during his music studies. Singer and composer of the band, he came up with the idea of a saxophone section brought to the spotlight by modern arrangements.
Grounded in the blues, Fuel Junkie is also strongly influenced by funk and soul music. The combination of a classic trio with three saxophones gives the band its unique identity that stands out on the blues scene. Creative interaction between the band members during solo sections make way for unexpected and standout moments at every concert. The group is known by its fans for the constant flow of energy and authenticity during every performance.
Following the launch of their first album Injected in spring 2016, Fuel Junkie participated in the Montreal Blues Society's Quebec to Memphis competition and performed at the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal, Festival International du Blues de Tremblant and Festival de Blues de Victoriaville.
Their second album set to release on September 19th 2019, Fuel Junkie performs regularly in the metropolitan region and all over the province of Quebec.

Mijn eerste live kennismaking met Howlin’ Stone was eind augustus 2014 op de Varkensmarkt in Culemborg en later begin oktober in Nieuw Vennep tijdens de Dutch Blues Challenge van de Dutch Blues Foundation. Helaas waren dat maar 20 minuten, maar ook de 2e indruk was uitstekend. Tijdens die Challenge vond ik ze een verademing. Heerlijke band die ongedwongen en zonder zenuwen, zo leek het althans, hun ding stonden te doen.
Howlin’ Stone bestaat uit Tom Janssen (lead-singer and guitar), Thimo Gijezen (bass player), Daan Geerlings (guitar) en Juliën Rapmund (drums).
Op een druilerige zaterdag in februari zag ik Howlin’ Stone bij de heren van BluesinWijk in het voorprogramma van Howlin’ Bill om de lente in te luiden. Hoewel, voorprogramma… 1 ½ uur spelen is gewoon een volledige gig te noemen. De wolf was reeds naar Duitsland vertrokken, aldus BluesinWijk gastheer Arie Verheul in zijn aankondiging, maar de wolf had gezien dat het snor zat met de Blues in Wijk bij Duurstede en met het gegrom van Tom!
Howlin’ Stone gaf er een klinkend optreden weg. Deze jonge honden staan helaas nog niet zoveel in deze regio, het is ook een flink stuk rijden vanuit Limburg naar het midden van het land, maar het is ons hun reis meer dan waard kan ik melden vanaf mijn luie bureaustoel. De heren hadden een vette gig gespeeld en na afloop natuurlijk hun cd gekocht, waar van elke verkochte cd één euro naar de Sean Costello Foundation gaat.
‘Slow Blues In A’ vangt aan met, inderdaad, een slowblues ‘Do My Own Thing’ (Johnny Taylor). Een akoestisch gitaarloopje met de schurende stem van Tom ineens daar om de hoek komend. Ingetogen, maar stomend. Laat het achterste van zijn tong nog niet zien, maar de vulkaan staat op uitbarsten. Ineens is daar versterking van drum, gitaar en bas, maar dan sterft het alweer weg.
Groovend begint een paar seconden later echter alweer ‘The Devil is Watching You’, uit eigen pen. Een lekker uptempo nummer met een heerlijke rhythm gitaartje en wat solo werk er doorheen geweven. Dit nummer doet een beetje Hoax-achtig aan, maar is een van de drie eigen nummers op deze cd. Verder staan er covers op van o.a. Robert Johnson, Sean Costello, Jeremy Spencer en Jay Hawkins. De schurende stem is van Tom Janssens. Tom’s stem is krachtig, pakkend, dwingend, kortom je kan er niet omheen en zal nu al bijna ongeëvenaard zijn in Nederland. De blueswereld is echter is iets groter dan Nederland alleen dus laten we “en omstreken” er ook maar bijslepen.
Maar er is meer! Daan Geerlings, de andere gitarist van Howlin’ Stone heeft een iets meer gelikte stem in vergelijking met Tom, maar dat maakt het wel zo afwisselend. Zo is te horen op Love ‘Breaks You Down’, waarop hij op zijn gitaar ook nog excelleert. Ook live was ik onder de indruk. Heerlijk nummer. Daan zingt met regelmaat een nummer, zodat uw oren tijdens de optredens van Howlin Stone enkele rustmomenten heeft. Tijdens de live optredens speelt Thimo Gijezen nog wel eens op contrabas, zo zag ik in Culemborg. Geeft toch net weer even iets extra’s. Deze tweede cd ‘Slow Blues In A’ van de heren van Howlin’ Stone is een prima cd en ik mag hopen dat dit pas het begin is.
