A soulful singer and scorching lead guitarist, Florida based Tommy McCoy and his band play an exciting variety of McCoy originals encompassing blues, roots rock, and Americana. By any standard, Tommy has paid his blues dues and then some. He has been performing and recording on a regular basis for well over three decades. “I’ve been playing blues since the early ‘60s,” says McCoy, whose parents bought his first guitar for his eighth birthday. Influenced initially by Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley, as a teenager McCoy discovered the wonder of Howlin’ Wolf and the Kings (B.B., Albert, and Freddie), Stevie Ray Vaughan in the ’70s. Tommy’s recording musicians include Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Commander Cody, Lucky Peterson, Tommy Shannon and Chris Layton, Stevie Ray’s rhythm section. His last 2 releases on Chicago label Earwig Music, charted worldwide with great reviews and airplay."The King Is Gone" (a tribute to B.B. King) reached #14 on the International Blues Chart.
Tommy has opened for Stevie Ray Vaughan, Gregg Allman, Albert Collins, and Robert Cray to name a few. Tommy has worldwide airplay, especially in Spain, Austria, and the UK with his song "Blues Thing" from Lay My Demons Down, which received a five star review in CONCERTO magazine in Austria.
