THE EDITED PRESS RELEASE: “Originally released on the Deluxe Edition CD of Gov’t Mule’s 2023 album, Peace… Like A River, the Time Of The Signs EP is now available for the first time digitally and on vinyl for Record Store Day Black Friday.”
It features five tracks: The latter-day Led Zeppelinesque crunge of Stumblebum; the ’70s-style San Francisco psychedelic folk-rock of Under The Tent; the spry Police-style groove-rock of Time Stands Still; the slowly blistering sax-flecked midnight blues of Blue, Blue Wind; and the eccentric, Tom Waitsian dub jam of The River Only Flows One Way, with Warren Haynes on the microphone instead of Billy Bob Thornton, who guested on a prevIously released version.
Peace… Like a River is the most varied album that Gov’t Mule have made, and certainly the most concise. There is no room for noodling, even when some tracks go over the seven-minute mark. Obviously there are riffs – where would Gov’t Mule be without them? – but more thought has gone into how the song will develop around them.
The same applies to ”Time Of The Signs EP”, all strong numbers of foot-tapping nature. We have here another half hour of quality music, such as the addictive rocker ‘Stumblebum’ which no Mule fan should miss.
