5 - (I Wanna Be Your) Lap Dog
6 - A Day Late And A Dollar Short
7 - Tantrum Shuffle

First comprised of frontman Nate Boff on guitar and vocals, Bowen Schultz on bass, and Curt Sigg on drums, Blue Tantrum started out as a trio of high school friends in a basement that just plain enjoyed playing music. It wouldn't be long until they began playing the local club and bar scene all over Ohio and surrounding states, catching attention of musicians and crowds many years their senior. Not only for the fact that on any other night they weren't performing, they wouldn't even be permitted in the bar at their age, but add that they were playing soul-screaming blues without hesitation. After about a year or so of steady work, Bowen graduated high school and moved away to pursue further education. He was then replaced by Greg Barth who can be heard on the EP. In February of 2006 Blue Tantrum went their separate ways after playing shows with the likes of Chris Duarte, Indigenous, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Arc Angels, Lonnie Brooks, Joe Bonamassa, Eric Sardinas, and many more. Nate and Greg still reunite occasionally to perform with Chuck Mauk on drums. Currently Nate is playing guitar and sharing vocal duties on another project known as the Disciples of Sound, with former Indigenous bassist Pte. The Dead Daisies - Lookin' For Trouble

 4. Black Betty - 3:27
 5. The Thrill Is Gone - 5:13

 7. Crossroads - 3:37
 8. Sweet Home Chicago - 3:26
 9. Walking The Dog - 3:10
10. Little Red Rooster - 4:03

Following the 2024 release Light ‘Em Up, the ’70s-style rock outfit The Dead Daisies return with a blues album titled Lookin’ for Trouble. Aside from the founding member, the guitarist David Lowy, the most recent lineup of this Australian-American supergroup features former Whitesnake members Doug Aldrich and Michael Devin on guitar and bass, respectively. Behind the drums is the amazing Sarah Tomek (Steven Tyler Band), and fronting the band, the former Motley Crue vocalist John Corabi. The new album was recorded at the iconic FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, where the members felt the weight of history around them during what started as just a fun little jam session. The producer Marti Fredriksen did not wait long before pressing record to capture this electrifying rock and roll energy oozing out of the blues standards the band were playing. No messing about, the album starts with a statement – an exciting and powerful performance of the Muddy Waters tune “I’m Ready”. A ruthless shuffle beat, gritty vocals, and killer guitar solos – what more could you possibly ask for? The band continues in a similar full-throttle fashion, turbocharging Freddie King’s “Goin’ Down”. A cheeky “Boom Boom” follows, with some fuzz-drenched harmonica spicing things up even further. Who knew cowbell can be such a good addition to John Lee Hooker’s music – this version sounds like something straight off Use Your Illusion (think “Bad Obsession”). Wah-wah leads the way into the groovy “Black Betty,” originally by Lead Belly. Midway through, the band slows the tempo all the way down to bring B.B. King’s “Thrill is Gone” home – warm guitar tone, topped with a soulful vocal performance, is soothing for the ears and soul alike. Ahh. It’s not long before the band returns to their preferred adrenaline-fueled sound. Starting with explosive, almost punky breaks, what follows is Albert King’s “Born Under a Bad Sign”. Bring on the slide guitar riffs – Robert Johnson’s “Crossroads” is arguably the band’s best performance on this record. Feels as though the band really let loose and grew into this one. This is backed by another RJ standard, “Sweet Home Chicago,” marking the return of the fuzzed harmonica licks. Rufus Thomas’ “Walking the Dog” is comprised of such infectious rhythm, you just got to move – a real feel-good track. Wrapping the album up is Howlin’ Wolf’s “Little Red Rooster” – slow shuffle, slide guitar, harmonica – blues at its finest.
The band breathes new energy into these classic blues numbers, giving them that bad-to-the-bone rock and roll edge. Speaking about the recording process, Doug Aldrich said: “We cut these songs live, in the same room where so many legends recorded. It was all about feel—capturing the rawness and authenticity that makes blues so powerful.” The band did what they set out to do – the ten tracks sure are raw, fiery, dirty, packed with energy, yet true to their original form. Lookin’ for Trouble is the perfect soundtrack to those long summer days ahead.

Bluephonic - Don't Let The Door Hit Ya'

12. Start All Over Again - 6:40
13. Busy Being Blue - 4:57
14. You're Losing Me - 4:25

Bluephonic is an Atlanta-based band with it's roots in the blues, but their debut album is undeniably multi-genre. This release contains various styles of blues seasoned with elements of jazz, funk, swamp, and rock. Their guitar-driven sound centers around tastefully restrained riffs and a rock-solid rhythm section. The grooves are infectious and the vocals are powerfully soulful. If you love the blues but like to venture beyond the standard three-chord turnaround, Bluephonic is for you! Bluephonic started out as a trio of musician friends getting together for acoustic jams on one of the member's back porch in the Spring of 2003. Nicole Petersen (Vocals), Steve Sheckels (Guitar), and Leigh Barrett (Guitar and Vocals) had performed in different bands around the Atlanta area but never all in the same band at the same time. What was happening on the porch sounded and felt so good the next step was logical. Gary Davis, another friend, was interested in adding bass and somehow Paul Cottrell was found to play drums and percussion. There is a definite buzz around Atlanta that's being caused by the release of their debut CD, "Don't Let The Door Hit Ya." There are 12 original songs on the CD, mostly penned by Steve with some assistance from Nicole and 1 written by Leigh. The remaining 2 tunes are covers of Tony Joe White's "Undercover Agent For The Blues" and one originally recorded by kd lang, "Busy Being Blue." Special guest Vic 'Trola' Misiewicz lends his considerable harp skills to 3 of the tracks, as well. Each song is unique and combines elements of several genres of music to arrive at a sound that can only be described as Bluephonic. Give it a listen, you will definitely enjoy it!

Fred Sanders - Long Time Comin`

Bitrate:320K/s
Year:1999
Time:49:24
Size:119,0 MB
Label:Mempho Records
Styles:Blues
Art:Full

Tracks Listing:
 1. I Got A Feeling - 3:24
 2. Daddy Cain - 6:37
 3. Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven - 4:19
 4. House Is Not A Home - 5:06
 5. Light Bulb - 3:21

 8. Who Are You - 3:45
 9. How I Feel - 3:41
10. Hello Baby - 5:08
11. Rosie Ann - 3:31
12. I'm In Love - 2:47

Born and raised in Memphis, Fred Sanders has a long association with Beale Street. "Long Time Comin'" aptly describes Fred's most recent album on Mempho Records: originally released in 1999, it was almost thirty years after his previous recording!
Things get underway with the shuffle, "I Got A Feeling," which gives the listener some insights into Sanders' talents. Ably assisted by some nice sympathetic Hammond B3, courtesy of Russell Wheeler, Sanders proves to be an accomplished guitarist who can give the blues shouters a run for their money when he puts his mind to it. Sanders basically sticks to a fairly mainstream blues style throughout, using more subtle changes of pace and power to provide the variation. Sometimes, these may even feature in the same song, as on "Daddy Cain," which ends up in an uptempo rocking groove.
Subtlety is the order of the day, throughout, with Sanders (and the band) never doing too much of anything for too long. Quite often there is a lighter touch to the material, which works most effectively on songs like "House Is Not A Home" with its soulful feel, which would sit comfortably in the repertoire of the likes of Bobby Bland. References to Bland are also triggered by the vocals on "Who Are You?"--one from the B.B. King repertoire--one of two covers included here.
"Long Time Comin'" is a good album, which indicates that Sanders is worth tracking down next time you are in Memphis. A good guitarist with a fine voice, Sanders gets good sympathetic support throughout by, among others, Mempho stalwart Brad Webb and Tony Adams, who double up on production duties too. If you like your blues a bit more on the mellow side, "Long Time Comin'" is definitely one to check out.

Bill King Piano - Indiana born, Toronto-based musician and producer.
Spanning a career that has seen Bill study with the legendary Oscar Peterson, become the musical director for Janis Joplin, tour with Martha Reeves, The Pointer Sisters and more - his output delves into rhythm, blues, soul, jazz and more
Very rarely does a band come along that can basically rewrite classic R&B songs and make them sound fresh, or write modern songs that could easily have been pulled from a 50's era juke box. An astonishing feat indeed and it seems so easy for Bill King and his band, 'Saturday Nite Fish Fry'. Their release "Rhythm & Soul" (7 Arts) has a timeless quality and a very eclectic mix of great music.
Featuring piano and vocals from the gifted Mr. King and unbelievable vocals from Shakura S'Aida, each song is a treat. The first track 'Ain't I talkin' To You Baby" is a fine indication of how well this band works together. The sexy 'That's How I Feel About You' has smooth, toned down vocals from Ms. S'Aida and a wonderful brass arrangement, featuring Chris Gale, Bob Brough and John Johnson on sax and trumpet from William Sperandi. 'Something On My Mind' is an original written and sung by Bill King. With a great bass and drum lines from Davide DiRenzo (drums) and Scott Alexander (bass) and guitar with a southern electric slide feel from Neil Chapman, this rockin' tune easily becomes a favourite. The Blues are evident on 'Easy, Easy. Easy'. With an adopted Barrelhouse sound courtesy of the piano and the soulful lyrics provided by Shakura, this tune is somewhat over shadowed by the rock guitar licks. All of the tracks on this disc are great. The real gem, however is a cover of Big Maybelle Smith's 'Maybelle's Blues'. It is over seven minutes of raw Blues vocals at its best. I have seen Ms. S'Aida perform this song live, and the recording does not do any justice, but this is a killer track. The lyrics are sexy and very cheeky, and the innuendos are obvious, which is part of the fun. Some of the other tracks on this disc include a modernized version of 'John The Revelator', Elmore James' 'I Can't Stop Lovin''Big Bill Broonzy's 'I Can't Be Satisfied' and a fantastic track written by Bill King called 'I'll Miss Your Smile'. Radio friendly and irresistible, this collection of songs is impeccable. With the help of the personnel, each track on "Rhythm & Soul" restores the original good time feelings and meaning of g R&B, whilst providing a fresh sound and arrangement. A fine effort from "Saturday Nite Fish Fry" that will soon be a favourite in many music collections.

Sid Gould: trumpet, flugelhorn
Nick Payn: sax, flute

Lee Sankey: Harpist, guitarist, composer, arranger, producer etc. Leader of ambitious jazzblues outfits. Decided to enter the world of music after being immensely impressed by James Hunter and his harpplaying at a live gig!
Lee Sankey was born in London, England in 1970. Principally known for his harmonica playing, he is also a, songwriter and guitarist. His band, The Lee Sankey Group, which toured all over Europe up until 2004, featured a core five piece band with the addition of a three or five piece horn section. Stylistically Lee’s music is a blend of jazz, roots and funk elements mixed with blues ideals. He coined the phrase “Bluebop” in 1997 as a descriptive term for the music on his debut "My Day Is Just Beginning ". Influences range from Muddy Waters, BB King, Little Walter to Canonball Adderley, Charles Mingus to Tom Waits. The EP ”She’s Not Alone” by The Lee Sankey Group contains two studio tracks, including the title track and three live recordings. Despite the fact that it is an EP and therefore only contains five songs, you get value for your money with almost fifty minutes of blues, jazz and funk. The class of the musicians comes to the fore especially during the live numbers. Guitarist Matt Schofield clearly leaves his mark with his characteristic funky blues sound. The jazz comes mainly from the horns. In addition, Sankey himself shows in the closing ”Stone in My Shoe” that he is quite skilled on the harmonica. ”She’s Not Alone” is a wonderful EP by a band that is not very well-known, but one that belonged to the top in the British scene. I say belonged, because Lee Sankey has since thrown in the towel. Too bad, but fortunately he has been the springboard for contemporary top blues musicians such as Ian Siegal and Matt Schofield.

One of my regular readers from Preston asked me to post this album on the blog.
We lost one of our greatest Soul singers in 2000 but while he was here, Johnnie Taylor gave us some of the most memorable recordings over three decades. The balladeer was highly influential on everyone from Luther Vandross to Brian McKnight. While his biggest hit came in 1976 with 'Disco Lady' Taylor ended up as a Malaco veteran and one of the most prolific artist on the small label.
There's No Good In Goodbye is the first release of previously recorded material issued by Malco since the singer death. The disc shows off the versatility of Johnnie Taylor by showcasing heartfelt ballads such as 'If You're Looking For Me' and 'This Is The Night For Makin' Up' to the blues shuffle of 'Crazy 'Bout You Baby'. With a James Brown funk vibe, Taylor delivers 'You Know That Aint Right'. He added a Louisiana flavor to the Paul Simon composition 'Take Me To The Mardi Gras'. Even though his excursions into blues, funk and disco were enjoyable, his powerful voice always blended itself best with powerful and soul drenched ballads and there are plenty on this compilation. So, grab your best girl, open a bottle of wine and put on There's No Good In Goodbye and you'll have a night that you won't soon forget.

Jones: electric & upright acoustic bass; Tom Quinn: drums; Sammy Mayfield: guitar, backup vocals; Erica Brown: vocals (13); Peggy Brown, David Booker: backup vocals (13); Tony Arceneaux: flute; Ruben Flores: percussion.
Traditional blues travels around the world on this session of emotional music. Except for "Lonesome Road," Dan Treanor wrote all the songs; Frankie Lee sings 'em with passion. While the timbres featured by the band's array of percussion instruments have a worldwide association, it's all about the blues at heart.A Bo Diddley beat carries "Mean Woman Blues" along urban streets, up and down the countryside, and back. Lee sings about the feelings we own up to when we're mistreated. "Kidnapped by the Blues" mourns a broken heart with acoustic instrumental sounds all around. Hand drums, down-home guitar, upright bass, and Treanor's soulful blues harp drive the message home.Lee's vocal exercises rely on dramatic emotion for their impact. As a result, his performance is uneven, with several interpretations pushing the limits a little too hard. In several spots, his near-shouting becomes a distraction. He's at his best with a hard-driving blues such as "Texas Son" or "Cut With Dynamite," where his forceful vocal energy pushes the music forward. Surrounded by a powerful band and Treanor's soulful harmonica, he makes these tunes sizzle.
"African Wind" explores the sounds of South Africa and neighboring countries. "Love a Woman's Soul" drives with an urban funk groove. "Tell Me Mama," "Lonesome Road," and "Got No Lifeline" represent the roots of Mississippi Delta blues. In all, Treanor and Lee provide an eclectic cross section of the kind of blues heard all over the world.

A fiery singer whose music encompasses both contemporary blues and Southern soul, Nellie Tiger Travis was born in the early '60s in Mound Bayou, Mississippi. Travis was primarily raised by her grandmother, who was a minister and sang in the church. Several other members of Travis' family were singers and musicians, and she began singing in church services when she was five years old. In her teens, Travis participated in beauty pageants, and was homecoming queen when she graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1979. While Travis considered a career in acting, her love of music won out, and she moved to Los Angeles in hopes of launching her career. There, Travis sang with Top 40 groups, but grew disillusioned with the politics of the music business. In 1992, she left Los Angeles for Chicago, where she thought she would be living temporarily as she looked after her ailing mother. Travis ended up staying, and in 1995 she was booked for a show at the well-known Windy City blues venue Kingston Mines. While she previously had little experience with the blues, She soon took to the music, and found a mentor in Chicago blues queen Koko Taylor. In 2000, Travis was talking with friends about how she needed a nickname; someone suggested "Tiger," saying it fit her tough but feminine personality, and the name stuck. Within a few years, Travis was a regular attraction on the Chicago blues circuit, she shared stages with some of the biggest artists on the scene (including Buddy Guy, Bobby Rush, Otis Clay, and Little Milton), and she was named "Entertainer of the Year" in a reader's poll by the Chicago weekly newspaper New City. In 2000, Travis released her debut album, I Got It Like That, through her Tiger Belle label; the same year, she recorded a collaborative album with Japanese guitarist Shun Kikuta, Heart and Soul. As Southern soul became a larger part of Travis' repertoire, she released 2005's Wanna Be with You, which fused Chicago blues influences with contemporary soul tropes. 2008's I'm a Woman featured a radio hit in the song "Slap Yo' Weave Off," which gained a loyal following in the South. In 2009, Travis' mentor Koko Taylor died; she performed at Taylor's funeral, and included a song written in her honor, "Queen of the Blues," on 2009's I'm in Love with a Man I Can't Stand. Travis wrote another song her honor, "Koko," which appeared on her 2011 album I'm Goin' Out Tonight. In 2013, Travis scored another Southern soul hit with "Mr. Sexy Man," which inspired a line dance popular in Southern soul venues. By this time, Travis was an established star in the blues community, performing regularly in Japan and Europe as well as the United States. 2014 saw the release of the collection Nellie Sings the Blues. ~ Mark Deming

Tracy K is a name familiar to Winnipeg Blues fans and many others around the world. Known for her Joplinesque vocals and accomplished Harmonica skills, Tracy K is also a songwriter of note.
Tracy K was born an actress, artist, and musician in the tiny prairie town of Beausejour, near Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Childhood piano lessons led to making up songs and playing around on her brother’s guitar. As her musical interests developed with the British Invasion and psychedlic era, blues became her foundation. Citing Sonny Terry as her first harmonica influence, Tracy K started blowin' harp while backpacking Europe in 1982 on an old harmonica given to her by a Canadian soldier in Germany - a lifelong passion was born. Back in Winnipeg, she attempted a teaching degree in music and art, but was diverted by her musical calling. Tracy K spent the rest of the decade in Toronto, gaining experience in the studios and on the stages of the bustling "Queen West" indy music scene. Motherhood prompted a move back to the prairies in 1991 for an eight year maternity leave where she raised three children.
In 2000 Tracy K released her first album. She wrote a song for a Los Angeles movie in 2002, and performed in the film with her band. She was the first female featured at the Toronto Blues Society's Harmonica Workshop in 2003, following a knock-out performance at their (and CBC Saturday Night Blues) prestigious Women\'s Blues Revue. In 2004, Tracy K moved to beautiful Thunder Bay, Ontario, where she recorded her second album in 2006. Released in 2006, "Old, New, Borrowed & Blues" is produced by Toronto blues great Jack de Keyzer. "Her songs are very well written, a seamless blend of blues, country and rock - not a surprise, perhaps, given the Thunder Bay / Winnipeg focus." (John Valenteyn, Maple Blues Magazine, August, 2007) She was a double semi-finalist and received an honorable mention in the International Songwriting Competition 2008. Tracy K was also selected to write and perform a song about the book "Icefields" for CBC Bandwidth's "Canada Reads, Ontario Rocks" 2008 radio concert.

Singer and guitarist Franck L. Goldwasser, born in France in 1960 and living in the USA since the mid-1980s, was formerly known under the stage name Paris Slim, but for some time now he has been performing under his real name. The recordings now being released date from the time before this name change; Goldwasser recorded them in three sessions between 1998 and 1999 with a changing line-up. The members included Rusty Zinn (gtr), Jim Pugh (keyb), Gary Smith (hca), bassist Johnny Ace (not to be confused with the singer who died in 1954), and various drummers. The fact that Goldwasser is at home on the West Coast is reflected in the album's sound, as are audible influences of Chicago and Texas blues. In addition to some original instrumental compositions, the 16 songs also include classics from the pen of Muddy Waters, T-Bone Walker, Jimmy Reed, and Rosco Gordon. Goldwasser's vocals are consistently good, but his versatile guitar technique is far more convincing. Together with the instrumentation, which is always stripped down to the essentials, it creates a high-quality yet pleasantly raw sound that has the potential to captivate listeners, not only in the numerous up-tempo numbers.
This album, released in 2021, brings together tracks recorded for the Mountain Top label but which have remained unreleased.

Earthy blues singer with excellent band. Good modern and funky blues.Listening to Michael Whittaker’s debut Earth Tones is a lot like glancing at postcards from a short but eventful trip around the globe, with each tune offering a different cultural vibe based on brief visits to Scotland, France, Asia, and Africa. The young but well traveled keyboardist/composer keeps the travelogue light and frisky, as if to say, my last stop was great, had fun, wish you were here, gotta go — which is to say he only scratches the surface of world music but still engages us nonetheless. There are a few attempts at deeper explorations, most notably “Quench the Thirsting,” whose Swahili chants encourage a singalong but speak of the tragic drought in Malawi, Africa. Combining Yanni’s flair for symphony light with Jon Anderson’s ethereal Irish flavors, Whittaker remembers a trip to the green fields of “Highland Air.” Draws from other diverse influences throughout, including 70s wah-wah guitar driven soul (“Coffee of The Day”) and Pat Metheny (“Write on Track”), Whittaker enjoys taking us on an upbeat search for his musical identity.

"Tony D. and his band put on fire hot live performances full of spontaneous energy." ~ Blues on Stage.
When he was 19 years of age, Tony had the pleasure of performing with the legendary Buddy Guy, starting a trend that would see him share the stage with such greats as Luther Allison, Bryan Adams and Michelle Shocked. Heavily influenced by the haunting sounds of the Mississippi Delta, this CD is a blues cocktail with all the power that a typical listener can endure. It's perhaps time to give thanks for a singer and guitarist who has dazzled us with technical skills while gently nudging the blues into new areas for two decades. Few blues guitarists turn it out like this.

"The newly formed Maple Station is a Blues Band in the purest form. Classically obscure Blues and Gospel/Soul/Rock covers and original Masterpieces highlight the bands high energy set list. The Depth of their appreciation for the genre comes through in the extremely high quality of material that they cover in addition to the original material that will eventually add to the extensive pool of classic Blues standards. The band was founded by Silverado Records founders Patrick and Isaiah Flynn. The father and son duo was previously featured as part of the short lived but successful “Father Son Band” (FSB). FSB was a staple of local clubs throughout Napa and Sonoma County as well as appearances on Bay T.V. morning show and extensive national radio exposure. The second incarnation of the Father, Son Band includes Patrick’s God Son, Vito Triglia on Saxophone, The venerable North Bay drummer Nigel Bates, and Sonoma County vocalist extraordinaire Rose Conner. If you enjoy live Blues music in all it’s magical forms from Delta to Country to Chicago/Electric to Modern and everything in-between, Maple Station will satisfy your craving for gut wrenching and hard pounding American Blues music"(https://granazibar.wordpress.com/2015/07/22/maple-station-express/.)

In 40 short years on earth, Johnny Jones established himself as one of the greatest piano players ever to inhabit the Chicago blues scene. Best known for his rock-solid accompaniment to slide guitarist Elmore James both in the studio and as an onstage member of James' Broomdusters, "Little Johnny" also waxed a handful of terrific sides as a leader. Jones arrived in Chicago from Mississippi in 1946 well-versed on the 88s. Influenced greatly by pianist Big Maceo Merriwether, Jones followed him into Tampa Red's band in 1947 after Maceo suffered a stroke. Johnny Jones's talents were soon in demand as a sideman -- in addition to rolling the ivories behind Tampa Red for RCA Victor from 1949 to 1953, he backed Muddy Waters on his 1949 classic "Screamin' and Cryin'" and later appeared on sides by Howlin' Wolf.
But it's Elmore James that he'll forever be associated with; the indispensable pianist played on James's halcyon 1952-56 Chicago sessions for the Bihari brothers' Meteor, Flair, and Modern logos, as well as dates for Checker, Chief, and Fire. The Broomdusters (rounded out by saxist J.T. Brown and drummer Odie Payne, Jr.) held down a regular berth at the West Side blues club Sylvio's for five years.
When he got the chance to sit behind a microphone, Jones's insinuating vocal delivery was equally enthralling. Muddy Waters, Jimmy Rogers, and Leroy Foster backed Jones on his 1949 Aristocrat label classic "Big Town Playboy" (later revived by Eddie Taylor, another unsung Chicago hero), while Elmore James and saxist J.T. Brown were on hand for Jones's 1953 Flair coupling "I May Be Wrong"/"Sweet Little Woman" (the latter a wonderfully risqué "dozens" number). The rocking "Hoy Hoy," his last commercial single, was done in 1953 for Atlantic and also featured James and his group in support. Jones continued to work in the clubs (with Wolf, Sonny Boy Williamson, Syl Johnson, Billy Boy Arnold, and Magic Sam, among others) prior to his 1964 death of lung cancer. Ironically, Jones was reportedly the first cousin of another Chicago piano great, Otis Spann. ~ Bill Dahl

Houston-based foursome of friends making great music around regular lives that, as their name implies, borrows from country and blues influences for an unmistakabely Texas sound.
In 2011, Randy Frisch started to lay down the groundwork for his original Texas folk/rock songs. Randy, an accomplished songwriter needed to find the right musical blend to express his honest, emotional and heartfelt lyrics.
There were many musicians that came along the way, band names changed like the Texas weather, but the songs remained and got tighter with every twist and turn the band endured.
June of 2013 saw Kenny Whitewolf, a veteran lead guitarist from Virginia laying down the bedrock to RKN with his unique style of soaring riffs, dynamic slide leads and growling blues vocals
In February of 2014, Greg Kenefic, an experienced east coast drummer of many moons established the steady, consistent, always in the pocket back beat that gave RKN the presence and grit it truly deserved.
The band started playing some classic rock and blues cover songs to compliment the original songs and soon realized how good this band could sound with the right musicians.
In December 2015, Ricardo Aguilar introduced RKN to his 6 string bass. Influenced by the west coast sound, Ric amped up the "Country Blues" movement and kept the bump and grind momentum alive and cooking.
February 2016 saw the band bidding farewell to Kenny Whitewolf and his lead guitar as he moved to new opportunities inTyler Texas. Lynn Girouard, formerly bassist with RKN, returned to fill the vacancy in the lead guitar spot. Lynn has passion for the RKN Country Blues Band sound and is a stellar lead guitarist with a fluid style that spans the range of country, blues and Rock and Roll genres. In July of 2017, we said our goodbyes and good luck to Ric Aguilar, who has moved on to pursue other interests and brought on bassist/vocalist Jerry McDonald to fill the void. Jerry is an outstanding bassist, with years of experience.
Our music is fresh, spontaneous and a little rough around the edges. It's where Dylan meets Austin City Limits. It's where country ballad blends with rock and roll guitar. It's unique and vibrant as Robert Johnson's blues.

11. Why Do Everything I Do Go Wrong - 4:00

Musicians:
Vera Taylor - vocals
Eddie Taylor Jr. - guitar
Tim Taylor - drums
Willie Kent - bass
Johnny B. Moore - guitar
Eddie Shaw - saxophone

The late Vera Taylor (wife of Eddie "Playboy" Taylor) never set out to be a singer. In fact she almost happened into singing, initially by getting up to do one or two songs when her husband was gigging in Chicago. "You Better Be Careful" is her first full length CD, and very good it is too.
Backed throughout by her sons Eddie Junior (guitar) and Tim (drums), Vera Taylor commanded enough respect to also attract the services of Johnny B. Moore, Willie Kent, Eddie Shaw and Ken Barker. The end result is a sound that bears the Chicago Westside hallmark of an earlier era, but without ever sounding tired or anachronistic.
Taylor was a very good singer, with a voice that portrays an element of nonchalance about the whole thing. She obviously did care about the music, though, and takes songwriting credits for all bar one of the tracks here. The lineage of some of the songs is pretty apparent, but that is no surprise in the blues.
There is bags of good stuff here, from the opening "Ain't Gonna Cry" (from Eddie Taylor Junior's album "Lookin' For Trouble") through to the closing cut of "Why Do Everything I Do Go Wrong." Most of the tracks were recorded in 1999, with the exception of the opener, and two very distinctive-and excellent-tracks from her husband's last recording session in 1983 ("I Found Out" and "I Have The Blues"). It is "What Is Wrong With You"-from the same pedigree as "Help Me"-which just about comes out on top as the best track, however.
"You Better Be Careful" is a very good album, which shows just how good a singer Vera Taylor was. It is tremendously sad that she did not live to reap the rewards that she richly deserved. A very good singer, backed by a set of crack Chicago bluesmen, all armed with a set of fine tunes all adds up to making "You Better Be Careful" a recommended purchase.

Nick Vigarino - Victims of Cool

Bitrate:320K/s
Year:1996
Time:51:38
Size:118,3 MB
Label:Self-Released
Styles:Blues/Mix
Art:Front

Tracks Listing:
 1. Barefoot Annie - 2:16
 2. Victims of Cool - 3:13
 3. Blacktop Road - 5:21
 4. 32-20 Blues - 3:15
 5. Daddy Rolls it Home - 5:20
 6. Lie to You - 3:56
 7. What I Need - 3:22
 8. Who's Da Dawg - 3:01
 9. Ramshacked - 2:09
10. Elbow Room - 5:56
11. Drivin' Me Away - 3:55
12. If it Wasn't for Love - 9:48

Nick Vigarino has been a fixture in the thriving Northwest scene for a number of years, and for his inventive approach to blues, has taken home a handful of Washington Blues Society awards. Nick has accompanied Long John Baldry with the "Flying Blues Circus" tour. In addition to fronting his own band, Vigarino plays with Meantown Blues who fuse Chicago and Delta styles.
Singer/songwriter/guitarist Nick Vigarino plays in the time-honored tradition of the Delta Blues. But the questions remain: what is he playing? What blues? And is it blues? ....His rough and gritty style could easily be compared to Elmore James or Skip James. His mastery of the guitar, Dobro and harmonica, combined with smoky vocals, give Vigarino the ability to perform as a solo artist as well as with a band. It was with this ingenuity that sent him to compete at the 2002 International Blues Competition in Memphis Tennessee.
Victims of Cool capture the essence of Nick's versatility as a player and songwriter. Vigarino showcases his finger pickin' brilliance on the commencing track with the instrumental 'Barefoot Annie'. Adding a bit of rockabilly flavoring to the mix, Nick and company pay homage to blues great Robert Johnson with a rendition of '32/20 Blues'. The guitarist plugs in on, and gets loose, on 'Blacktop Road' where a killer sax solo by Jon Goforth is unleashed along with Nick's funky slide work. 'Daddy Rolls It Home' is a straight-ahead mid-tempo shuffle featuring Jay Thomas on trumpet as the bridge experiments a bit with jazz. The slide player wraps things up with the help of Seattle Blues diva, Kathi McDonald lending her sumptuous vocals to this acoustic heartrending ballad, 'If it Wasn't For Love'.
Produced by drummer Chris Leighton, who plays all percussion on this CD and also recently joined Nick's band as a full-time member, the recording has a live ambiance. Nick Vigarino's Victims of Cool combines various musical styles, but the underlying spirit of this recording comes from the Mississippi Delta, where it all started.Very controversial!

Milwaukee area blues heavyweight Steve Cohen triples on his unique and progressive style of blues/jazz harmonica, (sponsored by Hohner for 25 years) guitar and vocals. Guitarist Greg Koch is known internationally for his incredible guitar virtuosity. Greg is a globe trotting clinician for Fender, and his instruction books and DVDs for Hal Leonard are a hit,as are his many recordings. Kurt Koenig, bass and Bob Mueller on drums round out the core band. Additional guests include world class cult blues harmonica guru Jim Liban, keyboardists Susan Julian and Joel Freisinger, as well as John Ricco-congas, and the Masonic Wonders, a Gospel vocal group. This is an eclectic, carefully selected batch of blues/r&b based tunes. Half are twisted originals that remain true to the spirit of the blues while extending the genre into uncharted territory. Covers include 60s crossover blues hits like Daydream, Givin It Up For Your Love and Crazy Mama, as well Little Village's "The Action". Let's not forget the spirited rendition of Erroll Garner's "Misty". Splendid musicianship abounds both in solos and ensemble work, as well as expressive vocals throughout. Possibly the best blues?album of the year.

My bands in the early days (Let the Good Times Roll) from the mid 70’s, (The Rebel Rousers, Sha-boogie) from the early 80’s,I also did sessions for The Deans, Black Lace, Billy Dean and the Wild Cats to mention but a few.
In 1986 I started a tour that took me rocking around the world After rocking the boat on cruise ships, and helping to shape the modern day concept of Rock’n’Roll piano bars around Scandinavia, I settled in Stavanger Norway where I formed The Blue Masters.
I lived in Stavanger from 1990 until 2004, and in that short space of time I made a lifelong friendship with writer and ex DJ Tony Burton, we wrote over 40 songs together.
I managed to capture the hearts of everyone I met, performing alongside many of Norway's top Stars.Norwegian Gossip Magazine (Se og hor) described me as “Norway’s best kept secret” that was whilst I was performing on the MS Norway in 1998 with an array of Norwegian stars.
I became very popular, with the original songs Tony and I had written in the early 90’s.Playing at Festivals, Dance clubs, and events all around the country, followed by TV and Radio appearances, a record deal and a sponsorship with Yamaha Scandinavia.
In 2004 due to ill heath in my family I returned to my roots in Yorkshire. I still tour twice a year in Norway and sometimes Denmark. I was hoping to get back on to the Rock ‘n’ Roll circuit
in the UK but it’s not happened yet !!! My concept is that over the years I have recorded quite a few albums.  I have playback for all of these albums, I sing and play piano live with the sound of a great Rock’n‘Roll band behind me.
It’s great to dance to and great to watch as I thump the piano with my hands and feet.I have recently put together The Neil Wilde Boogie Band which is aimed at playing Rock Rhythm Root’s & Boogie Woogie Blues
I started in Yorkshire 1976 I rocked all over the world and came home to Yorkshire. 49 years of helping to keep Rock Rhythm Root’s & Boogie Woogie Blues music alive globally. Don’t stop keep on Rocking !!!

For the first time, the band works together with three female singers: the soulful voices of Elsa, Megan and Jayne can be heard on all songs and can also be admired during the album presentation early next year.

In the winter in 2001, Vini and the Demons moved as a band from the deep South to Chicago, as many of their Blues heroes did before them. The Demons vowed a sacred oath to help keep the Blues thriving into the 21st century and beyond. The Demons made this commitment, in part, with the encouragement and blessing of Muddy Waters' daughter Ros, and the legendary Bo Diddley, both supporters and fans of the band.
Since their arrival, The Demons have become a well known and well respected entity in the Chicago Blues community. The Demons were a featured act and house band at Eddy "The Chief" Clearwater's Reservation Blues for over two years.
A favorite of the late Shirli Dixon, the Demons continue to be one of the few bands chosen to perform at the Willie Dixon Blues Garden Concert Series each year. In 2003, The Demons were selected by the City of Chicago to participate in Jim Fraher's historic photograph of Chicago's finest Blues artists, during the nationally honored, "Year of the Blues" celebration.
Vini and the Demons have shared the stage with many of Chicago's Blues artists including Eddie Taylor, Jr., Little Arthur Duncan, Billy Branch and the Sons of Blues, Bo Diddley, Sharon Lewis, Carlos Johnson, Eddy "The Chief" Clearwater, Jimmy Burns, and many more. The Demons' debut CD, Vini and the Demons, was released to the public on January 9th of 2004, at a standing room only bash at the world-renowned, Rosa's Lounge.
Vini and the Demons can be heard on many radio stations in the United States, and Europe. In France, the album reached #16 on RCV 99FM (Rockez Belles Oreilles). Their song, "I Don't Want You" hit #14 on Marc Loison's Sweet Home Chicago Blues Show on Radio 666. On the air in Lille, Tournon, Normandy, Belgium, Canada, and soon to hit the charts on Macedonia's National FM Radio Show, Mojo Blues in Skopje, the Demons are quickly gaining world-wide recognition.
Vini and the Demons never rehearse or perform until they have had a ritual shot of Jack Daniel's in honor of Robert Johnson, and all the Blues musicians who have come before them. The Demons do not play non-smoking venues.
The Demons play the Blues with deep passion and an intense spiritual fervor. With a repertoire of over 70 standards and original songs, the Demons keep their audiences drinking, dancing, and feeling the Blues the way it was meant to be experienced.
Vini and the Demons are managed by Hamilton "Bo" Gibbons, who has worked closely for many years with the Dixon family and Willie Dixon's Blues Heaven Foundation.

Vital Support - Vital Support

Label:Self-Released
Styles:Blues

Tracks Listing:
 1. Let The Music Be Your Guide - 3:57
 2. Payroll Deduction - 3:42
 3. What's Left - 5:00
 4. Neckbone Johnson - 3:50
 5. Them Days - 4:44
 6. Phone Keeps Ringing - 4:28
 7. Big Fat Frog - 3:54
 8. Bad Luck Tour - 4:17
 9. Wrong - 3:41
10. To Brunswick - 3:50

Let the music be your guide they tell us with the title cut of their CD. These guys are funky and soulful though out this thing. The title song sets the pace and tone .
The next tune “Payroll Deduction” is on of my favorite cuts. It is a story of a dude that works and works, paying his unemployment insurance with every check. Finally he gets fired and gets to live off his payroll deduction. Been there done that, this is a great tune about that experience with some pretty creative lyrics. Song # 3 “What’s Left” slows things down and a well placed juncture in the collection. I’ll say that I don’t normally go for slow stuff but this is a well written song that is sung with passion and the music seems to be almost caressing. It’s not what you hold in your hand, it’s the love you leave behind (to para-phrase) that really maters in life. I like this tune also.
“Neckbone Johnson”, song #4 is a nice way to get ya back into the grove. It’s a progressive song that builds slowly and surely a positive impression that will be left behind by this band once you listen to the whole thing. Song # 5 , “Them Days” puts the breaks on the whole deal, I suggest you skip that song . It just doesn’t fit. On third thought maybe it ain’t so bad, but I will say it’s the weakest link here.
Song # 6 “Phone Keeps Ringing” and the 4 following cuts continues to build that positive impression. it’s a bit slow but it has that funk underpinning that draws you into what this band has to offer. The song seems to be about some self doubt in thinking about a past love. It is just what the music doctor ordered to draw the listener back in. # 7 “Big Fat Frog” seems to pick right up where the last song left off and bring you up that funk ladder. They add some kickin horns. This is a cool instrumental and the bass is way excellent.
“Bad Luck Tour”, song # 8 is the bluziest on the CD. This is some real good Chicago Blues. It’s a traveling song, heading down to see Gigi in Tennessee. They “Dis” their Dodge Van and tell the story of a hard working Blues Band on the road from city to city. #9 “Wrong” brings you directly back to the funk and soul but somehow with a different taste in your mouth. Somehow dirtier and more gritty. Maybe it was the red Tennessee soil from the previous song. The final tune is an acoustic that is front porch and blusy.
I like this group and look forward to hearing more of what they have to offer. Their name “Vital Support” came in 1996 when, Backing up Carl Weathersby , they wanted to establish their own name. In 2004 the band decided to venture out on their own and have been playing gigs ever since. They are out of the Hoosier State of Indiana and influenced by the Chicago Blues sound.

Groningen-based band The Woods release Live at Vera (Live) (2025), which is the successor to their previous EPs from 2019, 2021 and 2024 respectively. Musical diversity is one of the band's strengths; the ease with which they switch from soft ballads to faster rock numbers is impressive.
