"Greetings to all our readers who enjoy this magazine, Cultura Blues, month after month. We're back on another date with the blues, this music that was born in the cotton fields watered by the Mississippi, and labored hard by slaves brought mainly from Africa, and who at night gathered around the bonfire and sang their daily deeds, and which over time became the first blues. This blues, which broke its chains and crossed borders, began to germinate in those who listened to a blues record, and who picked up the guitar and began to play the notes they heard on the record. Such is the case of the CD I'm now sharing with everyone at Cultura Blues. In Europe, there's one country in particular where the blues has taken root and developed widely: I'm referring to Spain. Here, the blues feels like it's at home, and the Spanish are now keen listeners of this rhythm. Spain, a sovereign country whose form of government is a parliamentary monarchy. and its capital is Madrid, is located in southwestern Europe and has an area of ​​505,370 km, and is the fourth largest country in Europe with an approximate population of just over 48 million inhabitants. Of the group that I now share with you, its point of birth and musical development is Barcelona, ​​​​which is the second most populated city in Spain, and is located on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. It is there that on July 10, 1954, Amadeu Casas was born, who was a blues musician, guitarist, and singer. The blues had in Amadeu one of its most loyal exponents in the Catalan scene, he was widely recognized for his very special way of playing both electric and acoustic guitar. He was totally in love with all forms of blues, his love for this music dates back to when he was 13 years old and heard a John Mayall acetate record. Later, he delved into British blues and was lent records by Cream, the Stones, Fleetwood Mac, and he liked all that music, the blues was already in his blood, he was strongly drawn to the names of some of the blues authors, he researched those names and that's how he met musicians such as: John Lee Hooker, Lightnin' Hopkins, Big Bill Broonzy, and the three Kings (B.B. King, Albert King and Freddie King). Amadeu was well known and admired by many blues musicians, he stood out strongly in the 80s, mainly for his performances at the "Cava del Drac" legendary place where numerous musicians who contributed to the development of the first-class blues and jazz scene in Barcelona emerged and took their first steps. He was a founding member of the groups "Blues Reunion", "Blues Messengers" and "Slide Company", he collaborated recording with his guitar for different musicians and groups. He recorded his first album in the 80s with his band Harmónica Zumel Blues Band, led by harmonica player Vicente Zumel. Amadeu was highly recognized for his quality playing the dobro of which he was a virtuoso, his music went from rural roots blues to urban and electric blues, as well as having a special fondness for jazz. The album I'm now recommending, Amadeu Casas – Strollin' Band, is a 17-track CD, and the accompanying musicians are: Nono Fernández on acoustic bass; Aldo Munari on drums; August Tharrats on piano; Jaume Badrenas, tenor sax; Pere Enguix, trombone; Josep Gomariz, trumpet; and Amadeu Casas, guitar and vocals.
