Bluephonic is an Atlanta-based band with it's roots in the blues, but their debut album is undeniably multi-genre. This release contains various styles of blues seasoned with elements of jazz, funk, swamp, and rock. Their guitar-driven sound centers around tastefully restrained riffs and a rock-solid rhythm section. The grooves are infectious and the vocals are powerfully soulful. If you love the blues but like to venture beyond the standard three-chord turnaround, Bluephonic is for you! Bluephonic started out as a trio of musician friends getting together for acoustic jams on one of the member's back porch in the Spring of 2003. Nicole Petersen (Vocals), Steve Sheckels (Guitar), and Leigh Barrett (Guitar and Vocals) had performed in different bands around the Atlanta area but never all in the same band at the same time. What was happening on the porch sounded and felt so good the next step was logical. Gary Davis, another friend, was interested in adding bass and somehow Paul Cottrell was found to play drums and percussion. There is a definite buzz around Atlanta that's being caused by the release of their debut CD, "Don't Let The Door Hit Ya." There are 12 original songs on the CD, mostly penned by Steve with some assistance from Nicole and 1 written by Leigh. The remaining 2 tunes are covers of Tony Joe White's "Undercover Agent For The Blues" and one originally recorded by kd lang, "Busy Being Blue." Special guest Vic 'Trola' Misiewicz lends his considerable harp skills to 3 of the tracks, as well. Each song is unique and combines elements of several genres of music to arrive at a sound that can only be described as Bluephonic. Give it a listen, you will definitely enjoy it!
