Eric hails from Savannah, Georgia, where he worked the usual small clubs. The resurrection of electric blues was apparent when demand for good music supported the creation of Savannah's first and best blues club, The Cross Roads. Eric and his band, The EROK band, were installed as the house band, and became an instant local phenomenon. Another Savannah native, agent, and club owner Tim Coy, recognized Eric's potential and got in touch with his friend Bob Greenlee, president of King Snake Records. One trip to King Snake studios in Sanford, Florida and Eric was signed and recording his first King Snake CD, " Blues is my Religion", released January 23, 1996.
The band has opened for or jammed with numerous recording artists, such as Jerry Portnoy, Carey Bell, (two of Muddy Waters' harp players), Johnny Winter, Buddy Guy, John Mayall, Tony Coleman ( B.B. King band) Jimmy Dawkins, Casey Jones (Albert Collins), Room Full Of Blues, Ted Nugent, J. Geils and Magic Dick, Eddie Kirkland, Johnny Clyde Copeland, Koko Taylor and Etta James.
"Blues is my Religion" the title song on Eric's CD, was used in the pilot episode of the TV show "Savannah". This is an Aaron Spelling and Warner Brothers production shown nationwide.
Music Choice Network chose eight songs off of "Blues is my Religion". This is a twenty- four hour commercial free digital music service available through cable TV and direct TV satellite, reaching over 2 million subscribers daily.
With the release of the CD , Eric Culberson and the Erok band are on their way to far broader recognition. They are appearing up and down the East coast, and seem poised to make the jump to stardom. And why not, combining spine-tingling guitar, soulful vocals and powerful original blues,
Eric Culberson is on his way!!!!!!

10. Watch The River Flow - 4:50
11. A Different Christmas - 3:41

Grammy Nominated Professor Louie & The Crowmatix from Woodstock, NY have been expanding the borders of Rock, Americana & Blues genres since the early 2000's. Crowin' Around the new album by Professor Louie & The Crowmatix consists of 11 songs, seven which are biographical, creative original songs written by Professor Louie & Miss Marie and three songs with new interpretations by artists Professor Louie produced: The Band, Commander Cody, Graham Parker and one instrumental interpretation by the genius composer Moon Dog.PL&C wrote songs for Crowin' Around to be inspirational, upbeat and uplifting including the Bonus track A Different Christmas.
This Legacy Allstar Band continues to grow with talented musicians reflecting a unique vision of relationships and thoughts about this tumultuous world and the times we live in. Americana at its Best!
With an exhortation on their latest album to keep Crowin’ Around and “keep it going,” the raucous five-time Grammy nominated blues/rock ensemble Professor Louie & The Crowmatix remain the best thing to happen to Woodstock, NY since…well, Woodstock, and even have a label called Woodstock Records to seriously keep it going with other great artists between recordings and performances. Acclaimed as “pioneers of Americana, Blues, Soul & good OL’ Rock & Roll” (Rick Schneider, MD for 98.1 WKZE) and “Roots Rock Royalty” (Bill Hurley, The Extended Play Sessions), the band has been inducted into the South Canadian Blues Hall of Fame and The Blues Hall of Fame (NY Chapter). They emphatically celebrate a remarkable quarter century of recording with a set full mostly original (and super fun and festive) horn-fired high-octane romps, from the uplifting inspirational anthem “Elevate Yourself” (the perfect opener and table setter for the crackling excitement to come) and snappy, snazzy “Too Much Fun” through the infectious, constantly jumpin’ “Rag Mama Rag.”  The Crowmatix, whose core band also features Miss Marie (vocals, percussion, keys), Frank Campbell (bass, vocals), Dan Hickey (drums) and Todd Mihan (guitar, vocals), pepper the set with a few so-called “covers” (quotes used because they’re really fresh and unique and bring them to the contemporary world with gusto). These include a spirited re-imagining of Graham Parker’s “Stick to the Plan” (which reassures us good things are coming if we…) and a simmering, laid back and contemplative take on Bob Dylan’s “Watch the River Flow.” Professor Louie, also renowned for co-producing and playing on The Band’s final three albums and touring with them from the mid-80s to the late 90’s, complements the fiery jams here with the lilting, warm-hearted family saga “Steadfast and True” and the trippy, all-instrumental outlier - a hypnotic, accordion laced tribute to legendary classical/avant-garde composer, musician and poet Moondog (“Bird’s Lament”). Here’s to the ultra-prolific, always insightful and wildly entertaining Professor Louie and The Crowmatix’s next quarter century!

While Buddy Guy may have said that he'd "seen enough of this place" in a surprise cameo at the end of Ryan Coogler's 2025 film, Sinners, it's clear from this release that his musical career is far from over.  As the last of the second generation of bluesmen still playing and making records, 89-year-old Guy is still inspired by the musical form he's been playing all his life and pays tribute here to many of his now-passed friends and contemporaries.Guy opens Ain't Done With the Blues with "Hooker Thing," an acoustic number set to John Lee Hooker's signature "Boogie Chillen." "That's one of the first things I ever learned how to play man," he shares with a laugh at the song's end.  Two other notable tributes include a lively rendition of New Orleanian Earl King's "Trick Bag," and "One from Lightnin'," where he convincingly reproduces the signature talking style of Texan Lightnin' Hopkins. He follows that with the muscular and electric, Chicago-style "Been There Done That," which like much of the rest of the album was co-written by Tom Hambridge and Gary Nicholson—two veterans who have composed near perfect settings for Guy's still potent gifts. Hambridge, a longtime collaborator who has produced five previous Guy albums stretching back to 2008, also plays drums which add a full and modern sound.  Additional contributors include Joe Bonamassa, The Blind Boys of Alabama, and Peter Frampton.Playing a variety of Fender Stratocaster and Telecaster guitars, the Guy adds inventive solos to every track. And his singing voice, always an underrated talent, is amazingly supple and strong throughout.  In "I Don't Forget" Guy shares his octogenerian insight as he recounts the racial injustices he's lived through, "At the swimming pool/ We weren't allowed/ Some folks afraid/ We'd turn ‘em Black somehow."  Sounding younger than his years, Guy remains committed to, as he puts it, "give you everything I got as long as I got it." © Robert Baird

An amazing discovery. Not unlike ROOM FULL OF BLUES and THUNDERBIRDS if you need referance points. A good time is guaranteed with this cd and it is sure to get the party started. Covers a lot of BLUES / R&B styles and does all of them justice. Great vocals, great guitar, clever songs - what's not to like.
5.0 de 5 estrellas Excellent Material, First Rate Presentation!
The Groove Hogs are a big, ten piece, band from the mid west that are nothing short of excellent. In addition to your usual blues guitar, organ, harp and drums you also get a five-piece horn section that is a cross between the retro blues sound of the Roomful of Blues and the soulful sound of the Tower of Power horns. While the horns sometimes steal the show, the vocals of Ron Hanson and the guitar of Pat Liel deserve mention. Ron's vocals add a rock style quality to the mix while Pat Liel adds some stinging lead and funky rhythms. Overall, a first rate recording of mostly original material and one that warrants consideration.
To put this simply, The Groove Hogs are THE *REAL* DEAL!! Here's a great live band that has developed into a world class studio band as well. Combining various portions of Tower Of Power, Edgar Winter's White Trash and Roomful Of Blues they retain the ability to add a personal stamp that is all their own. These guys can rock hard enough for virtually anyone, just take a listen to "Blues Is My Business"......one of the *best* opening tracks I've heard in recent memory. If you want to hear the best Tower Of Power song they never wrote give a listen to "Positive Trip". The Groove Hogs have it all! GET THEIR CD'S AND AMAZE YOURSELF AND YOUR FRIENDS!!

10. Hold What You Got - 6:22
11. The Money Doesn't Matter - 2:32

The ex-Wet Willie frontman returns to the label that got it all started for that band on this easy going set of rootsy soul blues. After leaving Willie, Jimmy Hall has been best known as a sideman for others (Jeff Beck, Jimmy Buffett, Hank Williams Jr., Gregg Allman) due to his abilities as a harp/sax player and vocalist. But as anyone who ever danced to "Keep on Smilin'" knows, Hall is a terrific frontman and proves it on this set. Backed by a band of veterans including guitarist Jack Pearson (who also co-writes a few tunes), Hall tackles bluesy covers from the Nighthawks ("Too Tall to Mambo"), Muddy Waters (a scorching "Long Distance Call"), Willie Dixon ("Twenty-Nine Ways to My Baby's Door"), Sam Cooke ("A Change is Gonna Come"), and Albert King (Booker T.'s "The Hunter") with passion and integrity. His salty vocals are similar to those of Delbert McClinton, but Hall has a wider range and brings a righteous gospel feel to whatever he sings. His version of the oft covered Cooke classic is revelatory as he digs into the lyrics with revival tent passion. The title track is one of only two Hall originals (co-written with Johnny Douglas) and a highlight of the project. Its smooth swamp soul groove is driven by Hall's expressive voice and tight, jabbing fills from Pearson. Things get country-bluesy on Pearson's "Weep and Moan" an acoustic Delta blues that's as authentic and gritty as anything from a native Mississippi bluesman. The following "Hold What You Got" does the same for Chicago blues Elmore James style, where Pearson lets fly on slide guitar. If there was any doubt that Jimmy Hall should be a solo star, this disc removes it. It's a rousing success and proves he is as talented as many of the spotlight stealing acts he has assisted as a sideman. [The 2006 reissue adds three quality tracks including the excellent instrumental "Duck Soup."] ~Hal Horowitz/ (azzuls)

Donna Hopkins is the real deal. Born and raised on an Alabama farm, Donna witnessed life in the South first hand, channeling it into the soulful music that she creates and performs. Music runs in her family; her mother performed rock and roll in go-go boots and mini-skirts and her grandfather was a fine bluegrass musician in his own right. Following in their footsteps, Donna is a consummate seasoned performer with many songs and performances under her belt. As a young teenager, Donna recalls sneaking out to the MGM Grand in famous Muscle Shoals, Alabama to jam with David Hood, Roger Hawkins, and Harrison Calloway…it’s not many who can say they cut their teeth with members of Aretha Franklin’s band! Her current lineup includes harmonica genius Brad Bauman, who is endorsed by MegaTone Harmonica Amps handcrafted by Dale Laslie.
Georgia Music Magazine calls Donna Hopkins a “genuine triple threat” due to her prowess as a singer, songwriter and guitarist. In addition to her other talents, Donna also wears the producer’s hat, working with and developing up-and-coming talent in the Atlanta area. As much at home in an intimate listening venue as she is on a giant festival stage, Donna Hopkins performs both solo and accompanied by the perfectly seasoned group of musicians who make up the Donna Hopkins Band, and is always a crowd pleaser.
National acts that Donna has opened for or performed with over the years: BloodKin, Big Bill Morganfield, Col. Bruce Hampton, Charley Pride, Chris Hicks (of the Marshall Tucker Band), Clint Black, Conway Twitty, David Allan Coe, Derek Trucks Band, Donna The Buffalo, Donnie McCormick, Emily Saliers (of the Indigo Girls), Francine Reed, Gatemouth Brown, George Jones, George Porter, Jr., Indigo Girls, Jeff Sipe, Joe Bonamassa, King Johnson, Lorrie Morgan, Lee Boys, Little Joe, Luther “Houserocker” Johnson, Martina McBride, Mel Tillis, Michelle Malone, Mudcat, Oak Ridge Boys, Oliver Wood, Rita Graham, Sammy Blue, Sean Costello, Robert Cray, Ronnie Milsap, Stevie Wonder, Tanya Tucker, Tinsley Ellis, Todd Nance (of Widespread Panic), Travis Tritt, Vince Herman (of Leftover Salmon)/

Willy Finlayson and the Hurters: Very Much Alive:
Rhythm and Blues soul review by masters of the craft, featuring legendary UK musicians.
Early in 1991, I went to the Red Lion pub in Brentford to visit Charlie, who was doing a gig with a singer I had not heard of, Willy Finlayson. It was a Sunday lunch gig, and when I arrived the place was packed quite literally to the rafters. The band was an all star line up, including guitarist Mickey Moody. Willy Finlayson is a fantastic singer and at this gig he was very much at the height of his powers with an unusually good set. Largely on impulse, egged on by Charlie’s enthusiasm, I decided to make a live recording of this line up.For the recording John Etchells was again the engineer. Researching mobile recording studios led us to the Advision mobile truck, at that time ?850 per day, which was on hire to Prince for the two weeks before we used it. Around that time I met Dave Mackay, who owned a Mitsubishi digital multi track, which, with considerable effort because its a heavy machine, we loaded onto the Advision truck for the recordings with the agreement that we would mix the album at Dave’s Studio in Woldingham. The venue was booked for Friday Night, Saturday night and Sunday lunch to enable us to record three versions of each track. What followed was a great fun weekend with huge amounts of energy crackling around. The ‘Hurters’ on the album are – MICKEY MOODY on guitar, MATT IRVINE on keys, NIGEL PORTMAN SMITH on bass, and CHARLIE MORGAN on Drums.Willy was in fine voice throughout. All three shows were packed and those present will remember the electric atmosphere in the room. The album was mixed in four fun filled days at Dave Mackay’s studio in Woldingham by John Etchells. There were a ‘very few’ overdubs on the vocal parts, mostly because of technical limitations with live sound, but in essence the recording remains an honest reflection of a top class group of musicians. The track ‘On the air tonight’ has a special value, with the crowds participation playing an important role in the arrangement.John Graham again provided the cover photography, with Willy using my Casio Stratocaster for the cover picture, and the artwork design was by Sku Richards. The album was released in mid 91 on a small scale and via gig sales and internet promotion sold close to 2,000 pieces. Following an approach from Germany, there was a license deal and the prospect of a release in Germany followed by a tour. I visited Germany to make the arrangements and had a super time, meeting Albert Lee, staying at Frank Farians former studio, and drinking some excellent German beer, however the proposed tour and release never quite materialized. Another reminder that making money out of recordings is not easy. The album though remains an honest recording of some great musicians playing at the top of their game.

Masterfully produced by three-time GRAMMY winner Kirk Yano at his studio in Brooklyn, NY, Yano assembled a distinctive group of musicians to skillfully complete the project.
Never straying from the original energy of London's vocal and guitar tracks, producer Kirk Yano assembled a distinctive group of musicians to provide a rhythmic foundation and solos to skillfully finalize 'The Last Dance' after London's passing. In addition to Yano's own guitar and bass tracks, 2021 Blues Music Award winner Solomon Hicks and Pittsburgh's finest, Cheryl Rinovato, also appear on guitar. Don Krueger (Eric Carmen) and Tommy Rich (Donnie Iris) provide drums. Steel guitar from Tony Paoletta (Dixie Chicks, The Opry) and harmonica from world-renowned, six-time Blues Music Award winner John Németh complete the exemplary musician roster.

The Blues.... It's about crossroads - night and day, light and dark, the place where they meet - that's where the blues lives. There are still such places out there in our world today. South Carolina is one place where that edge of light and dark exists. Out there in the bogs, down those roads that suddenly appear out of nowhere while you are on a summer jaunt driving to the beach or looking for a 'native bar or juke joint'. They aren't really hidden they exist in full sight - go to Charleston - thriving port city with cruise ships and a link to slavery and the civil war that refuses to be sanitized, yes go there and you will see those passageways to the other side. The Port City Prophets know these roads very well. The roads where redemption or condemnation are like Siamese twins joined at the heart. They live there, they know when to avoid and when to embrace, they are natives, whether born in the mud and muck or not, they have street cred to spare.. Their music is just that - native to the soul of humankind. It is defiant in it's approach and stubbornness to not be classified. There is an undeniable urgency to their music as they seem to fight against the maelstrom enjoying the sensation of their heads going under but fighting for dear life to resurface wiser, and more accomplished than before. Well written lyrics that speak to the heart and soul that are sung with a raw passion that belies the singers years. Guitar treated as an instrument of inclusion knowing when to take center stage but always there with a chordal framework that almost seems like an inside joke to fellow players, and the drums. These are the drums that your parents warned you about. Yes indeed, back in the darker days drums were banned for they were thought of as a secret language of the slaves. These are directly related to those rhythms and they will leave you breathless. Stop for minute, take the crossroads, the road less traveled, but be prepared for what lies ahead on this road and in the house of the Port City Prophets for they speak the truth in their music ~ (https://www.amazon.com/Mule-Port-City-Prophets/dp/B00B6OEBZE)

The Planetary Blues Band - Once Upon a Time in the South Loop

Label:Self-Released

Tracks Listing:
 1. See That My Grave Is Kept Clean - 3:03
 2. The Thorns Will Show You - 3:18
 3. This Precious Existence - 4:04
 4. That's No Way to Get Along - 4:06
 5. Sacred and Profane Blues - 3:54
 6. Blues Resurrection - 5:28
 7. Crazy Cryin' Blues - 2:57
 8. In a Blue Study - 3:27
 9. When I Say I Love You - 5:10
10. The Shillelagh - 3:32

The Planetary Blues Band, hailing from the Midwest United States, is a blues rock mix of energy and emotion. The band consists of three brothers, Martin (guitar and vocals), Michael (guitar and vocals), and Bobby (bass) Schaefer-Murray, and their longtime friend, Nick Evans (drums). The quartet formed in 1999 in Valparaiso, Indiana, and have played regional bars and festivals since. In June of 2013, PBB released their fifth release entitled, Once Upon A Time In The South Loop. The album was self-released, and according to their bio, the album was self-recorded and self-produced. Although modern technology has made DIY recording and producing more affordable it is still risky for a band to take on such a task. The album opens with See That My Grave Is Kept Clean. This is a new arrangement of a track by the legendary Blind Lemon Jefferson, also known as the Father of Texas Blues. The PBB version is an upbeat rock song, and a worthy tribute to the original. The song has a great hook that makes it hard not to tap your foot to it. The Thorns Will Show You is the second track on the album. At first I wasn’t sure if I would like this song, but then I heard the solo. This tune rocks out with some great guitar solo work full of feeling! While the main rhythm line could be more interesting, The vocals are good and the solo is well worth playing several times over.
This Precious Existence is a slow dance blues rock ballad. The lyrics suggest we make the most of what we have. While it is a bit slow for my taste, the guitar work is good and the message upbeat. Also, another song worth listening to just for the guitar solo.
That’s No Way To Get Along is reminiscent of a gospel song. It has a rockabilly feel to it with a walking base line and driving snare beat that builds throughout the song to make it infectious. This song is a cover of a well-known track by the Rev. Robert Wilkins.
This is possibly my favorite track on the album. I think of sitting in a lively church revival in a tent on a summer day clapping along with the band. The lyrics are not really church material, though they do speak of a prodigal son returning home to his mother after a rough time with women.
The fifth track is Sacred and Profane Blues. This song is blues rock in its truest form. Great guitar work and a solid rhythm line make this song another solid album hit. Listing to the lead guitar, I hear a Stevie Ray Vaughn or Gary Moore style; the guitars really jam on this track.
Blues Resurrection is another great guitar driven jam. I think the song describes itself best… “I don’t know if the Blues is alive, I just know it won’t let me be.” The song has dirty and sleazy written all over it. The rhythm lines strut along unshamefully as the guitar drips emotion all over. I can see a dark smokey club with the lights harsh upon the stage. The band, sweat rolling down there faces, oblivious of their audience, playing for all it’s worth.
Crazy Cryin’ Blues is a cover of a Memphis Minnie song. Memphis Minnie was a female artist, popular in the 1930s and 1940s, playing blues which was a genre dominated by men. The PBB version is reminiscent of the 60s jam band sound, with a solid beat and hook.
In A Blue Study is another favorite of mine. The song has a folk blues feel to it. It is gentle and upbeat, and appears to tell the story of a man who gets into trouble for going against the grain. I have to say, I like this song so much that I listened to it over and over.
When I Say I Love You is another classic blues jam. Listening to this song reminds me of Stormy Monday by T-Bone Walker. It has a slow steady progression, which is accentuated with drums and guitars.
The Shillelagh closes the album, and is a fun, upbeat 60s style instrumental jam. This is a great track to close the album on. There is some interesting guitar work, a solid beat, and an interesting base line.
Overall, I enjoyed Once Upon A Time In The South Loop. For a self-produced album, the quality is good. The guitars sound bright and the drums crisp. I think the bass could have been clearer. It is buried back in the mix and would have sounded stronger had it been brought forward. Being a traditional bass-tone made it hard to pick out at times.
If you are into the blues-rock, jam band sound, you will like this album. Even if you are not a blues fan, several of the tracks on this album, such as In A Blue Study or The Shillelagh are fun and upbeat, and warrant giving it a listen.
As for the Planetary Blues Band, I think they do well in carrying on the blues heritage in this modern-day. Someday, I need to catch them live and experience their vibe first hand. In the mean time, I will look for their earlier releases and eagerly await the next.

Guitar - Dennis Eminger, Martin Hötte;
Keyboard - Georg Mahr;
Drums - Frank Mellies.

A former cover band that primarily focused on Joe Bonamassa presents its debut album with original material, except, of course, for two tracks that connoisseurs will... er, recognize. Sure, "The Hard Way" and "The Ballad Of John Henry" come from the great German idol (where they come from, by the way, is thankfully rarely revealed), but the fresh material from BLUES DELUXE, as the abbreviation deciphers, is also clearly oriented towards the former blues prodigy, which is evident in Dennis Eminger's vocals, but also in the occasionally luscious guitar tone (title track) and the occasionally richly note-rich solos on the six-string. Compositionally, however, there's still room for improvement, again compared to the original, because American mainstream music takes some getting used to, even if it sounds so light-hearted to the accustomed ear. The band has mastered classic slow sounds like "Blues In D-Flat," "Help Me," and "I Don't Care" admirably, while "Never Going Back" sounds rather tired. The cover songs also remain more of a must than a choice, but those who lift heavy run the risk of breaking their bones, but that's not the case with BDL. "Nowhere Else To Go," as well as the organ-driven "Still Breathing," with its tasteful electric piano and Southern feel, are sure to be a must-listen. "Bitter Man," on the other hand, has something of Kenny Wayne Shepherd about it, another mainstreamer whom BDL can't match, which they don't really need to. Either way, it's pleasing that the musician can wear blue here too without appearing too conservative. CONCLUSION: BDL certainly aren't "The New Blues-Rock Sensation," as they call themselves, but "Retribution" is the first commercial blue-collar band to cross the finish line in the upper midfield and sounds absolutely competitive internationally. Add to that some fiery performances in smoky clubs, and the authenticity is perfect. ~ Andreas Schiffmann (Info)

Though New Orleans understandably gets most of the attention when it comes to Louisiana music, there is a diversity of styles appreciated as one moves around the state. The northern city of Monroe, is home to Louisiana Soul Revival, which as their name infers, packs a hard hitting combination of blues, funky and soul under the direction of singer/songwriter/keyboardist Doug Duffey.
A native of Monroe, Duffey came up playing keys around the south in a multitude of bands before heading out to Los Angeles in the 1970's to make a name for himself as a funk oriented songwriter. He has continued to compose and perform and this is his latest project; writing all of the material, which was arranged and produced by guitarist Dan Sumner. A good blues,funk/soul band has to have a tight horn section, and LSR is no exception, demonstrating high competency in executing complicated charts.
"Funky Bidneh," begins with the requisite wah-wah guitar, and dominant vocal refrain, with the horn men quickly defining the groove. "It Ain't What You Do" has an infectious scratchy rhythm, leading up to a brief but crisp solo by altoist Mason Howard. A hint of Tower of Power comes through in "I Don't Need Ya Anyway," with the gritty organ pushing and pulling the action. Duffey handles all the lead vocals, displaying a genuine southern flavor, which is enhanced by the stellar backing vocals of Betsy Love and Naomi Holder. These ladies take over on "Do It Right," and prove that there is no substitute for the woman's touch.
New Orleans vocalist Chuck Carbo comes to mind on "1-900-For-Love," a classic R&B number reminiscent of jukebox hits from when this music was in its prime. They come back with a vengeance on "The Joke Is On You" and glide into the smooth side of soul on "Just For Tonight." Here, Duffey shows his acquired singing ability, a flashback to the slick Gamble and Huff era of the '70's. The funk gumbo continues on "B What R Ya," before wrapping it up with "Love Into My Life," an obvious dance favorite, thrusted by the ferocious bass of Ben Ford, who did a remarkable job throughout the session, as this music demands a fierce low end.
Louisiana Soul Revival is an active performing and touring ensemble, that is why the audio presence is so animated, for it's difficult to pull this off with studio musicians. They have a throwback soul sound that requires precise instrumentation and rhythm, so it resonates with authenticity and authority. As guitarist/arranger Dan Sumner states, "it's a big, blasting, full sound...that speaks brashly of Louisiana's funk future."

Atlanta, Georgia-based roots musician Mudcat aka Daniel Peter Dudeck is back with some exciting slices of good old blues music, not shying away from rock ‘n’ roll and doo-wop influences. In about 25 minutes, you’ll hear six spellbinding songs—Loser’s Blues and Cosmic Dope / Burden of Sanity as quite different highlights—then again but bundled in one-take finale Full Redemption, with the intensity and feel of a live set.
Rock & Roll Redemption, produced by Snave, is out now digitally and on CD (self-released). “internationally known gospel and bluesman. Mudcat continues the traditions of the early blues pioneers while adding his own Mudcat edge, resulting in one of Atlanta’s greatest treasures. Self released by Johnny in 2010 this was a return disc after a 7 year absence from the Chicago music scene. The 13 tracks are made up of 11 covers and 2 written by Johnny. The covers are wide ranging from Buddy Guy, Jesse Thomas, T-Bone Walker to Bobby King, Jimmy Dawkins and Son Seals. What we have here is Johnny and his tight band working these tunes from their perspective and of course Johnny tops it off with his fine guitar and his very soulful vocals. This is excellent stuff and was recorded primarily in one 6 hour session. Recommended as are the other discs in the Rockin Johnny catalogue. See him live when you have the opportunity.

"Rediscovered by Hammond Scott, Lloyd Lambert and Jeff Hannusch, James "Thunderbird" Davis finally finds the opportunity to record a first complete album. This is a superb achievement produced by brothers Hammond & Nauman Scott. Behind James, there is an all-star backing band with Clarence Hollimon, Anson Funderburgh, Ron Levy, Lloyd Lambert, Grady Gaines, Mark "Kaz" Kazanoff. Particularly at ease, James performs his repertoire - covers and original compositions - between Blues and brassy Rhythm & Blues. Some remarkable gems like "I'm ready now", "You did me wrong", "Check out time", "What else is there to do", "Come by here", "I should've known better".
Thought by many to be deceased, singer James Davis returned from musical invisibility to make this sparkling comeback set for Black Top. His hearty pipes sounding anything but over-the-hill, Davis roared a combination of his own fine tunes and remakes of songs first done by Bobby Bland, James Carr, and Wynonie Harris in front of a terrific combo (guitarists Anson Funderburgh and Clarence Hollimon, saxist Grady Gaines). A revival of his own slow blues "Your Turn to Cry" recalled Davis's early-'60s glory days" ~ Eric S.(1990).
