Biography from AllMusic
A love of the blues has infused the music of Toronto-born and Franklin, TN-based vocalist/songwriter Jim Diamond. Together with his band the Groove Syndicate, Diamond has been one of the busiest musicians in the midwest. Performing more than 190 concerts during its inaugural year in 1990, Diamond and Groove Syndicate have maintained the pace. They played their 1000th show in late 1998.
Diamond didn't turn to music until his mid-teens. Although he purchased his first electric guitar at a pawnshop at the age of 15, his dreams of becoming a professional guitarist seemed to be shattered, two years later, when he severed a tendon in his left hand and lost the use of his third finger. His determination, however, drove him to find a way to play his instrument despite his handicap. Moving to Detroit to attend the University of Michigan, he spent many nights instead jamming in local clubs. Relocating to Cincinnati in 1989, Diamond became infatuated by the blues. Starting to write songs, he wrote 30 tunes the first year. Forming Groove Syndicate in 1990, the group was solidified with the addition of a female drummer, Beth, who married Diamond shortly after her arrival in 1995.
Moving to Franklin, TN, north of Nashville in 1996, Diamond and Groove Syndicate recorded their debut album, Angel Child, shortly afterwards. Their second album, Somewhere Somehow, released in August 1999, was followed by Choices in late 2002, Vibe in the spring of 2002, and the all-instrumental, Shut Up and Play, in 2003.
