Selwyn Birchwood (born March 9, 1985) is an American blues guitarist, vocalist and songwriter from Tampa, Florida. He was the winner of the Blues Foundation’s 2013 International Blues Challenge (band category), as well the winner of the Albert King Guitarist of the Year award, presented at the same event. Selwyn Birchwood gets back to the roots with side-project "Old School!" On "Old School," Birchwood's songwriting is showcased against a rich canvas of upright acoustic bass and sophisticated grand piano hearkening back to the traditional Blues pioneers that cultivated this timeless music! By all accounts, Birchwood is a guitar and lap-steel-playing bundle of pure energy. He delivers his original songs with a revival tent preacher’s fervor and a natural storyteller’s charisma made all the more impactful by his raw, unvarnished vocals. Birchwood plays high-octane blues – at once deeply rooted, funky and up-to-the-minute – with true passion and honest emotion.
