The Blue Junction originated from the Aarhus blues scene in the mid-1990s, and consists of experienced musicians from well-known Danish professional blues bands.
With the Texas-inspired guitarist and singer Ole Frimer and the Chicago-inspired guitarist Uffe Steen in the front, and with one of the country's best and most well-played rhythm groups, Morten Brauner (bass) and Claus Daugaard (drums), they play a contemporary and original blues style that is best described as "Texas meets Chicago meets Aarhus".
The orchestra writes its own music, but also mixes its own songs with interpretations of the classic blues repertoire.
In 1998, The Blue Junction released its first album "22:17 – Live in Aarhus" on Intermusic; an album that brilliantly illustrates the orchestra's dynamic live performances.
Award-winning in America twice
The debut album was praised by both Danish and international press, not least by American music magazines and record companies, who gave it top marks and consider the orchestra to be among the world's elite.
The international attention culminated in the fall of 2001 when the orchestra received the prestigious American Real Blues award for “Best Live European Blues Recording 2000”.
In the spring of 2002, the orchestra released its second CD “Diamond On A Dump” on InTheHouse Records. The Danish press was quick to give it 5-star reviews, and it was nominated for a Danish Music Award for “Danish Roots Album of the Year”.
In 2003, the band was again awarded the American Real Blues Award for “Foreign Blues Act of the Year in America”.
In April 2004, the latest release from The Blue Junction, the album “The Journey” (InTheHouse Records, ITHCD 0018), was released.
The orchestra has now visited most Danish venues and a wide range of Scandinavian festivals.
