Texas blues guitarist who appears here with an album of original material, bar the cover of Jimi Hendrix’s ‘Freedom’. A traditional blues rock trio with Jay Hooks handling vocals and guitars, with Maria Del Prete on bass and drummer Jerry Gaskill. Plenty of guitar on ‘Final Stand’, whilst ‘Once Around The Moon’ sees Hook’s vocal entering the land of Motorhead’s Lemmy! Fancy some slide-based boogie? ‘Cold Natured Thang’ provides it nicely. The blues ballad ‘Strong Love’ is okay but sounds like many others in this genre. Nice touch of acoustic blues on ‘Wicked Wayward Son’, some nimble blues pickin’ on here!
Good, solid blues rock album - nothing fancy, just stripped back tunes featuring plenty of guitar and a very tight rhythm section. If Walter Trout and early ZZ Top is your thing grab a copy of this album.
