Michael Krogsgaard aka “Right Hand Buddy” may be an aging senior physician (at Bispebjerg Hospital), but he is also a lively part-time singer-songwriter and as such the innovative force behind the ensemble, Old Man Blues, and the micro record company, Hookfarm. In the 1970s – under Krogsgaard’s leadership – Hookfarm released, among other things, two records with C.V. Jørgensen. But in 1980 the company went bankrupt, and that could have been it. But a few years ago – almost 40 years later – Krogsgaard revived the company – perhaps because he himself rediscovered the joy of or the urge to write and sing songs. In 2022, Krogsgaard released an EP (Ready for Fun) with Old Man Blues, the year after an LP (also called Ready for Fun), and he is already releasing LP number 2, Excuse Me, Sir, are You Feeling Alright? And the songs on this are – as on Ready for Fun – original, but the performance is also – as on Ready for Fun – conventional and clearly connected to established genres such as blues, garage rock and surf. When you know that Krogsgaard has written a significant Bob Dylan discography, you will notice several of his own and the ensemble's songs – The Eagle Song and Snakes in Your Life are, for example, stylistically inspired by Bob Dylan's songs and music.
However, you can hear that Krogsgaard's voice – (like Dylan's) – is wavering due to age. But despite this "problem", there is a fascinating authenticity in Krogsgaard's and Old Man Blues' songs, and there is generally quite solid instrumental accompaniment from the ensemble – i.e. from singer Reeta, organist Dan Hemmer, guitarist Mikkel Hermansen, guitarist Flavia Couri, bassist Thomas Cortes, drummer Mads Tornemark, guitarist Christian Sievert, cellist Johan Carøe and percussionist Martin Couri.
