Oddly enough, for fans of electric blues rock and Southern music, the Pete Scheips Band, which comes from New England in the northeastern United States, is a blessing. It remains faithful to its roots while offering good quality music to all fans of modern blues rock. It has often opened for blues and rock greats such as B.B. King, John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, Dickey Betts & Great Southern, Johnny Winter, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Deep Purple, Ted Nugent, Buddy Guy and Bo Diddley. In short, it knows music. We can easily see the band making a killing at Francis Géron's Spirit of 66; it's exactly the style of this legendary place. Among the members of the band, in addition to Pete Scheips, there is Jaimoe, a former member of the Allman Brothers Band on drums and Matt Zeiner, a former collaborator of Dickie Betts, on organ. And that is the combo's strong point: its musicians. The album's producers are Pete Scheips, Matt Zeiner and Chris D'Amato. The music, however, does not stray from the rules of the genre. If you like blues rock and southern rock, Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Allman Brothers Band, this CD is for you.

Sean Webster & The Dead Lines - See It Through

Bitrate:320K/s
Year:2014

Art:Full

Tracks Listing:
 1. The Mayor - 3:59

 3. Whisky - 4:13
 4. Stay with Me - 4:50
 5. I Still Remember - 4:24

 7. I'd Rather Go Blind - 8:21
 8. Leave Me - 5:37
 9. Hear Me Now - 7:06
10. See It Through - 6:25

A young Sean Webster's life dramatically changed when a friend introduced him to the likes of the music by the blues greats. The three Kings, Albert, BB, and Freddy, as well Robert Cray, Buddy Guy, Gary Moore and the primary reason for Sean playing the guitar, the legendary Eric Clapton. Sean's passion for guitar and his dedication to music since has continued to grow to an almost fevered obsession. That thirst for music has led to the creation of six studio albums and taken Webster on a touring life across America and Europe taking in many of the Blues-Rock scenes leading venues and festivals.
Webster's instantly recognisable voice coupled with his heartfelt melodic guitar playing has become the feature on all his album releases. Both Webster's blues-inflected guitar licks and weathered soul shouter vocals are always passionately sung across tightly arranged songs.  Music News had this to say about Webster's talents.
"I haven't heard anyone with a voice like Sean Webster; it's a wonder that he isn't being hailed as a Blues superstar."
Webster has never been one for following the latest trend, never bowing to blues purism standards. His heart is worn firmly on his sleeve, personal trials released in the form of song that creates his connection with his audience. A strong blues vein runs through Webster's original music, done so without sacrificing the need to retain a modern approach and sound. Thus creating such a likeable and listenable performer, deserved of repeat listens.
"See It Through" - this is the fifth release in about ten years from Webster, who spent a good few years in Australia but was finally tempted back into the studio in 2013 to record this excellent ten-track album. Two of his previous efforts, the debut ‘Long Time Coming’ (2004) and follow-up ‘If Only’, both won critical acclaim with Webster being tipped for great things. Instead, the Brit seems to have adopted a less ambitious and quieter life Down Under for some years. Given his musical pedigree and style, however, it appears clear that any suggestion of a quiet life is far from likely and with ‘See It Through’ Webster again throws his hat into the ring with considerable flair. This is good-time rock-blues with a raucous feel, driving energy and high-energy soloing from a guy who is not afraid to fly high. Webster’s guitar soars and sings – it even sighs, when required – with polished licks aplenty and remarkable riffs. His voice is powerful, growling and gutsy. And his songwriting skills are evident here with a maturity and virility that matches his driving vocal delivery. All in all ‘See It Through’ is a very fine bit of work featuring an accomplished musician in his prime, clearly enjoying a return to the stage and the studio.

Brother Chunky - Down Low

Bitrate:320K/s
Year:2018
Time:36:46
Size:84,4 MB
Label:Self-Released
Styles:Blues/Funky Blues
Art:Front

Tracks Listing:
 1. Chunky Boogie - 3:44
 2. Down Low - 3:38
 3. Shut Your Mouth - 3:29
 4. Deep Ellum Blues - 5:02
 5. Long Way Around - 4:25
 6. Things We Seek - 3:02
 7. Little Man - 3:10
 8. Enlightenment Blues - 3:39
 9. Get on Down the Road - 3:04
10. Resignation Letter - 3:28

Local singer-songwriter Michael Barclay creates and takes the stage as Brother Chunky. While technically a solo artist, Barclay collaborates with a group of musicians to bring the depth of his musical visions to life. The multi-genre and dynamic “chunky guitar riffs” are especially prevalent on the newest album, Down Low, a 10-track album that lures listeners with the wailing blues and storytelling lyrics. The album opens with an electrically charged blues track, “Chunky Boogie,” jumping right in with short spurts of lyrics between power high-note picks and chords on the electric guitar—in a “Purple Haze” kind-of-way. What first feels like rock n’ roll subtly shifts toward the blues as the electric guitar fades among the bass, drums and harmonica, lyrics clear and easy to hear. The song is upbeat, full of instrumental variation, and sets the boogie-or-bust standard for the rest of Down Low. The title track is a funky dancing blues track, that opens with a rolling drum rather than the guitar. The track fuses funk, rock and blues with a simple riff that pauses with the bass in all the right places for Barclay to sing and stop. While the electric guitar maintains the rhythm, Barclay sings, “Do what you’re told … And you’ll be fine.” When Barclay sings, there is an almost unnoticeable deep and low backup vocal. Something so subtle runs the risk of going unnoticed, yet it adds to the complexity of the track and the staple fullness and bellow of the blues.Brother Chunky often emphasizes the “electric” in electric blues on tracks like “Enlightenment Blues” and “Resignation Letter,” while on tracks like “Shut Your Mouth” and “Things We Seek,” the harmonica stands out, leaning more heavily on the pillars of classic blues. “Things We Seek” begins in unison with the guitar and a noticeable harmonica playing the same two-stepping riff, the instrumental foundation of the track. Between the narrative lyrics and Barclay’s characteristic cowboy “Mmhmms,” plus backing vocals by Morgan Whitney, they sing, “Sometimes / That’s just the way that it goes.” A dramatic pause and a harmonica solo backed with the guitar gives the song the space to jam like the blues are meant to do. Every note, lyric, transition and genre overlap on Down Low is  thoughtfully constructed without seeming too rigid or staged. From backyard parties to late-night jams, Down Low is the summertime boogie soundtrack carelessly spreading a case of rhythm and blues one track at a time. –Lizz Corrigan

The most amazing thing about Lafayette, Louisiana, the capital of Cajun country and most popular pit stop on Interstate 10 between Houston and New Orleans, is the entertainment. It offers both quantity and quality and never shuts down. One dancehall and drinkery, Four Seasons, is home base for Swamp Pop Legend, WARREN STORM. Unless at an out-of-town gig, Warren can be heard six nights a week, enthralling the loyal throngs with Cajun, Blues, Zydeco, and Swamp Pop favorites until 2 AM. WARREN STORM, drummer elite and soulful singer, was born Warren Schexnider Feb. 18, 1937 near Abbeville, La., the county seat of Vermilion Parish. Taking up where his father left off, he began supplying the backbeat pro-fessionally at age fifteen to Larry Brasso's Rhythmaires, a C&W outfit of great renown in the area,-a group with whom be played three years. He thereafter took up with Herb Landry for a similar period learning all the new R&B licks. In the meantime, he was also freelanc-ing with Bobby Charles, playing both local dates and in New Orleans, where he met and was highly influenced by Cosimo's studio drummer, Charles "Hungry" Williams.
By the late fifties, he had formed his own combo, the We-Wows which evolved into the Jive Masters, bands in great demand in the region. In 1958 Crowley record producer, Jay Miller, was the first to record Warren and gave him the name WARREN STORM. His R&B twist to Guy Massey's standard, "PRISONER'S SONG", was a huge hit and climbed to #80 on the Billboard charts. Several more releases followed by Warren could not repeat the triumph of his initial effort, but Warren was kept busy both day and night as a studio drummer at Miller's studio, backing virtually all the artists recorded by Miller. After Warren's contract with Miller ran out in the early sixties, he decided to try his luck with Houston based producer, Huey Meaux. A few regional hits ensued when juke boxes still carried enormous clout with the buying public, but that national hit never emerged and it had Warren wondering if it were in the stars to continue this profession; but persistence, his strong suit, always won out. Most likely, the early and middle sixties were the most satisfying of his career in that he was to experience growth as a musician, experimenting with all styles of music, playing with various combinations of personnel. As a trio of Swamp Pop legends, he, with Rod Bernard on guitar, and Skip Stewart on bass, carved a niche for themselves in rock and roll history as the Shondells. As a staff musician for Carol Rachou's studio, he appeared on early Eddy Raven recordings and those of Bobby Charles, as well as on Dale & Grace's blockbuster #1 hit in 1963, "I'm Leaving It All Up To You". Still on hire as a studio musician, Warren added the punch to the now classic Swamp Pop/Zydeco masterpiece, BOOGIE IN BLACK & WHITE (Jin 9014), a collaboration between Rod Bernard and Clifton Chenier in 1976. Always the local legend, Warren has, throughout the eighties, been called upon to furnish the necessary tempo to many local producer's sessions, including Floyd Soileau's JIN and MAISON de SOUL labels, or put in an appearance at a Cajun or Zydeco festival, including the annual New Orleans Jazzfest. It was during one of those sessions that producer Floyd Soileau mentioned that he had recorded just about every Swamp Pop. Legend at one time or other, except Warren Storm, and that he would love an opportunity to do an album project with him whenever he'd be free of other producer's contracts. And thus, this album was recorded in Lafayette in 1991. Selected for this album were some of Warren's regional hits as well as fan requested favorites he sings nightly. The album is dedi-cated to all his faithful fans over the years. At fifty-five now, one wonders how long he can keep up the gueling pace, night after night. If you ask Warren, though, he'll tell you, "Until they pry these drumsticks from my cold and stiff fingers.

Little Jimmy King's third album finds him in the well-placed hands of Memphis producing and arranging legend Willie Mitchell. With Mitchell's publishing branch supplying six of the 12 selections here, there's a much more pronounced soul/blues feeling to this album than his two previous efforts, spelled out in a most contemporary manner on the confessional opening track, "Living In the Danger Zone" and "We'll Be Together Again." As always, Little Jimmy tips his hat to his mentor, the late Albert King with every note he hits on his Flying V, squeezing strings over several frets to get those classic Albert microtonal bends on tracks like "I Don't Need Nobody That Don't Need Me," "Drawers" and the title track. This is a thoroughly contemporary blues album that could -- and should -- expand King's audience beyond the usual blues circles.© Cub Koda /TiVo
